BACKGROUND: Breast reduction surgery has witnessed significant advancements in recent years; however, it continues to pose challenges for both surgeons and patients when dealing with cases involving excessive breast volume and severe breast ptosis. This study aimed to assess the aesthetic outcomes and the impact on the quality of life, as measured by the BREAST-Q questionnaire, in patients with gigantomastia and severe breast ptosis who underwent reduction mammaplasty using the superomedial-based pedicle technique. METHODS: We present a retrospective series comprising 84 patients who underwent reduction mammoplasty utilizing the superomedial pedicle technique. The surgical resections exceeded 1 kg per breast, with a mean resection weight of 1506.58 g (right breast) and 1500.32 g (left breast). The preoperative mean suprasternal notch to nipple distance measured 40.50 cm (right breast) and 40.38 cm (left breast). Postoperatively, the patients were followed up for a minimum of 6 months. Both preoperative and postoperative BREAST-Q surveys were administered to the participants, and scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics. RESULTS: Complications were observed in 3 patients (3.57%), characterized by partial loss of the areola, which resolved spontaneously over time. Additionally, 2 cases of hematoma and 2 instances of minor delayed wound healing were reported. All patients expressed satisfaction with their aesthetic outcomes, as they achieved a natural breast shape and minimal scarring, along with symptomatic relief. CONCLUSIONS: The superomedial pedicle reduction mammaplasty technique has demonstrated its ability to produce satisfactory aesthetic outcomes and long-term benefits in patients with excessively large breasts. Careful patient selection and postoperative management are vital for achieving optimal results. Further investigations involving larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are warranted to validate our findings. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV.

Facing the great threats to ecosystems and human health posed by the continuous release of chemicals into aquatic environments, effect-directed analysis (EDA) has emerged as a powerful tool for identifying causative toxicants. However, traditional EDA shows problems of low-coverage, labor-intensive and low-efficiency. Currently, a number of high-efficiency techniques have been integrated into EDA to improve toxicant identification. In this review, the latest progress and current limitations of high-efficiency EDA, comprising high-coverage effect evaluation, high-resolution fractionation, high-coverage chemical analysis, high-automation causative peak extraction and high-efficiency structure elucidation, are summarized. Specifically, high-resolution fractionation, high-automation data processing algorithms and in silico structure elucidation techniques have been well developed to enhance EDA. While high-coverage effect evaluation and chemical analysis should be further emphasized, especially omics tools and data-independent mass acquisition. For the application status in aquatic environments, high-efficiency EDA is widely applied in surface water and wastewater. Estrogenic, androgenic and aryl hydrocarbon receptor-mediated activities are the most concerning, with causative toxicants showing the typical structural features of steroids and benzenoids. A better understanding of the latest progress and application status of EDA would be beneficial to further advance in the field and greatly support aquatic environment monitoring.

Unknown forever chemicals like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are difficult to identify. Current platforms designed for metabolites and natural products cannot capture the diverse structural characteristics of PFAS. Here, we report an automatic PFAS identification platform (APP-ID) that screens for PFAS in environmental samples using an enhanced molecular network and identifies unknown PFAS structures using machine learning. Our networking algorithm, which enhances characteristic fragment matches, has lower false-positive rate (0.7%) than current algorithms (2.4 to 46%). Our support vector machine model identified unknown PFAS in test set with 58.3% accuracy, surpassing current software. Further, APP-ID detected 733 PFASs in real fluorochemical wastewater, 39 of which are previously unreported in environmental media. Retrospective screening of 126 PFASs against public data repository from 20 countries show PFAS substitutes are prevalent worldwide.

Trio exome sequencing was performed on a female fetus with an increased nuchal translucency, along with nasal bone hypoplasia, suspected cleft palate and abnormal outflow tract of the heart. A de novo heterozygous variant c.5500_5507del, p.(Tyr1834Argfs × 58) in the MED12 gene was detected. Loss-of-function variants in MED12 in females are associated with Hardikar syndrome (HS). A follow-up ultrasound at 15+5 weeks of gestation identified multiple fetal anomalies including bilateral cleft lip and palate, diaphragmatic hernia, atrioventricular septal defect, persistent truncus arteriosus, and bilateral renal pelvis dilation. Fetal autopsy confirmed the prenatal sonographic findings, and the MED12 variant was discussed by our multidisciplinary team to be the cause of fetal anomalies. Our case is the first prenatal one in which HS was diagnosed due to first trimester structural malformations. This case report presents another example of early identification of a major anomaly which allows earlier genetic diagnosis and more time for clinical management.

Evidence suggests that surgical procedures can effect the central nervous system and lead to changes in mood and behavior, rarely understood about the role of acute inflammation in promoting acute anxiety postoperatively. This study was designed to explore the possible mechanism of dexmedetomidine (DEX, a2-adrenergic receptor agonist) for reducing acute postoperative anxiety, which may be related to the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and downstream signal pathway in the hippocampus. Experiments were conducted with rat, the elevated plus-maze and open field test were performed to evaluate anxiety-like behavior. Inhibit DEX with Atipamezole (AT, α2-adrenergic receptor antagonist) and inhibit NF-κB with Pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (PDTC, inhibit phosphorylation of IκB, prevent the activation of NF-κB), the level of interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-1ß, IL-10 and Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α); the nuclear translocation of NF-κB in the hippocampus and anxiety-like behavior were measured. Rats exhibited anxiety-like behavior at 6h and 12h after surgery. Preoperative administration of DEX significantly alleviated postoperative anxiety-like behavior. DEX premedication inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB alleviate acute postoperative anxiety. These findings are the first to show that acute postoperative anxiety may be related to NF-κB nuclear translocation in the hippocampus in rats, which can be alleviated by DEX premedication.

Chronic primary pain, characterized by overlapping symptoms of chronic pain, anxiety, and depression, is strongly associated with stress and is particularly prevalent among females. Recent research has convincingly linked epigenetic modifications in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) to chronic pain and chronic stress. However, our understanding of the role of histone demethylation in the mPFC in chronic stress-induced pain remains limited. In this study, we investigated the function of lysine-specific histone demethylase 1A (KDM1A/LSD1) in the context of chronic overlapping pain comorbid with anxiety and depression in female mice. We employed a chronic variable stress model to induce pain hypersensitivity in the face and hindpaws, as well as anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors, in female mice. Our findings revealed that chronic stress led to a downregulation of KDM1A mRNA and protein expression in the mPFC. Notably, overexpressing KDM1A in the mPFC alleviated the pain hypersensitivity, anxiety-like behaviors, and depression-like behaviors in female mice, without affecting basal pain responses or inducing emotional distress. Conversely, conditional knockout of KDM1A in the mPFC exacerbated pain sensitivity and emotional distress specifically in females. In summary, this study highlights the crucial role of KDM1A in the mPFC in modulating chronic stress-induced overlapping pain, anxiety, and depression in females. Our findings suggest that KDM1A may serve as a potential therapeutic target for treating chronic stress-related overlap pain and associated negative emotional disorders.

Two series of vanillin derivatives containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,3-thiazolidin-4-one scaffolds were prepared and evaluated for their antifungal activity. The results revealed that compounds 6j (29.73 µg/ml) and 7a (38.15 µg/ml) displayed excellent inhibitory activity against the spore of Fusarium solani. The inhibitory activity of compound 7d (10.53 µg/ml) against the spore of Alternaria solani was more than 42-fold that of vanillin. Compound 7a (37.54 µg/ml) showed better antifungal activity against the spore of B. cinerea than positive controls. The cytotoxicity assay confirmed that compounds 6k, 7a, and 7d showed good selectivity and less toxicity to normal mammalian cells.

With the economic development, a large number of engineering accumulation bodies with Lou soil as the main soil type were produced in Guanzhong area, Northwest China. We examined the characteristics of runoff and sediment yield of Lou soil accumulation bodies with earth (gravel content 0%) and earth-rock (gravel content 30%) under different rainfall intensities (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 mm·min-1) and different slope lengths (3, 5, 6.5, 12 m) by the simulating rainfall method. The results showed that runoff rate was relatively stable when rainfall intensity was 1.0-1.5 mm·min-1, while runoff rate fluctuated obviously when rainfall intensity was 2.0-2.5 mm·min-1. The average runoff rate varied significantly across different rainfall intensities on the same slopes, and the difference of average runoff rate of the two slopes was significantly increased with rainfall intensity. Under the same rainfall intensity, the difference in runoff rate between the slope lengths of the earth-rock slope was more obvious than that of the earth slope. When the slope length was 3-6.5 m, flow velocity increased rapidly at first and then increased slowly or tended to be stable. When the slope length was 12 m, flow velocity increased significantly. In general, with the increases of rainfall intensity, inhibition effect of gravel on the average flow velocity was enhanced. When rainfall intensity was 2.5 mm·min-1, the maximum reduction in the average flow velocity of earth-rock slope was 61.5% lower than that of earth slope. When rainfall intensity was less than 2.0 mm·min-1, sediment yield rate showed a trend of gradual decline or stable change, while that under the other rainfall intensities showed a trend of rapid decline and then fluctuated sharply. The greater the rainfall intensity, the more obvious the fluctuation. There was a significant positive correlation between the average sediment yield rate and runoff parameters, with the runoff rate showing the best fitting effect. Among the factors, slope length had the highest contribution to runoff velocity and rainfall erosion, which was 51.8% and 35.5%, respectively. This study can provide scientific basis for soil and water erosion control of engineering accumulation in Lou soil areas.

Although fengycin exhibits broad-spectrum antifungal properties, its application is hindered due to its low biosynthesis level and the co-existence of iturin A and surfactin in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens HM618, a probiotic strain. In this study, transcriptome analysis and gene editing were used to explore the potential mechanisms regulating fengycin production in B. amyloliquefaciens. The fengycin level of B. amyloliquefacien HM-3 (∆itu-ΔsrfAA) was 88.41 mg/L after simultaneously inhibiting the biosyntheses of iturin A and surfactin. The knockout of gene eps associated with biofilm formation significantly increased the fengycin level of the strain HM618, whereas the fengycin level decreased 32.05% after knocking out sinI, a regulator of biofilm formation. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes, involved in pathways of amino acid and fatty acid syntheses, were significantly down-regulated in the recombinant strains, which is likely associated with a decrease of fengycin production. The knockout of gene comQXPA and subsequent transcriptome analysis revealed that the ComQXPA quorum sensing system played a positive regulatory role in fengycin production. Through targeted genetic modifications and fermentation optimization, the fengycin production of the engineered strain HM-12 (∆itu-ΔsrfAA-ΔyvbJ) in a 5-L fermenter reached 1.172 g/L, a 12.26-fold increase compared to the fengycin level in the strain HM-3 (∆itu-ΔsrfAA) in the Erlenmeyer flask. Taken together, these results reveal the underlying metabolic mechanisms associated with fengycin synthesis and provide a potential strategy for improving fengycin production in B. amyloliquefaciens.

BACKGROUND: Despite ongoing research, the underlying causes of schizophrenia remain unclear. Aspartate and asparagine, essential amino acids, have been linked to schizophrenia in recent studies, but their causal relationship is still unclear. This study used a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method to explore the causal relationship between aspartate and asparagine with schizophrenia. METHODS: This study employed summary data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted on European populations to examine the correlation between aspartate and asparagine with schizophrenia. In order to investigate the causal effects of aspartate and asparagine on schizophrenia, this study conducted a two-sample bidirectional MR analysis using genetic factors as instrumental variables. RESULTS: No causal relationship was found between aspartate and schizophrenia, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.221 (95%CI: 0.483-3.088, P-value = 0.674). Reverse MR analysis also indicated that no causal effects were found between schizophrenia and aspartate, with an OR of 0.999 (95%CI: 0.987-1.010, P-value = 0.841). There is a negative causal relationship between asparagine and schizophrenia, with an OR of 0.485 (95%CI: 0.262-0.900, P-value = 0.020). Reverse MR analysis indicates that there is no causal effect between schizophrenia and asparagine, with an OR of 1.005(95%CI: 0.999-1.011, P-value = 0.132). CONCLUSION: This study suggests that there may be a potential risk reduction for schizophrenia with increased levels of asparagine, while also indicating the absence of a causal link between elevated or diminished levels of asparagine in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. There is no potential causal relationship between aspartate and schizophrenia, whether prospective or reverse MR. However, it is important to note that these associations necessitate additional research for further validation.

PURPOSE: Surgery for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is characterized by a poor prognosis and high complication rate, resulting in a heavy symptom burden and poor health-related quality of life (QOL). We evaluated longitudinal patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to analyze the correlations between symptoms and QOL and their changing characteristics during postoperative rehabilitation. METHODS: We investigated patients with ESCC who underwent minimally invasive McKeown esophagectomy at Sichuan Cancer Hospital between April 2019 and December 2019. Longitudinal data of the clinical characteristics and PROs were collected. The MD Anderson Symptom Inventory and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QOL questionnaires were used to assess symptoms and QOL and compare the trajectories of PROs during the investigation. RESULTS: A total of 244 patients with ESCC were enrolled in this study. Regarding QOL, role and emotional functions returned to baseline at 1 month after surgery, and cognitive and social functions returned to baseline at 3 months after surgery. However, physical function and global QOL did not return to baseline at 1 year after surgery. At 7 days and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery, the main symptoms of the patients were negatively correlated with physical, role, emotional, cognitive, and social functions and the overall health status (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Patients with ESCC experience reduced health-related QOL and persisting symptoms after minimally invasive McKeown esophagectomy, but a recovery trend was observed within 1 month. The long-term QOL after esophagectomy is acceptable.

BACKGROUND: Spinocerebellar ataxia 2 (SCA2) with a low range of CAG repeat expansion of ATXN2 gene can present with predominant or isolated parkinsonism that closely resembles Parkinson's disease (PD). This study is aimed at comparing clinical features, disease progression, and nuclear imaging between ATXN2-related parkinsonism (ATXN2-P) and PD. METHODS: Three hundred and seventy-seven clinically diagnosed PD with family history were screened by multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification, whole-exome sequencing or target sequencing, and dynamic mutation testing of 10 SCA subtypes. The baseline and longitudinal clinical features as well as the dual-tracer positron emission tomography (PET) imaging were compared between ATXN2-P and genetically undefined familial PD (GU-fPD). RESULTS: Fifteen ATXN2-P patients from 7 families and 50 randomly selected GU-fPD patients were evaluated. Significantly less resting tremor and more symmetric signs were observed in ATXN2-P than GU-fPD. No significant difference was found in motor progression and duration from onset to occurrence of fluctuation, dyskinesia, and recurrent falls between the two groups. Cognitive impairment and rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder were more common in ATXN2-P. During follow-up, olfaction was relatively spared, and no obvious progression of cognition dysfunction evaluated by Mini-Mental State Examination scores was found in ATXN2-P. PET results of ATXN2-P demonstrated a symmetric, diffuse, and homogenous dopamine transporter loss of bilateral striatum and a glucose metabolism pattern inconsistent with that in PD. CONCLUSIONS: Symmetric motor signs and unique nuclear imaging might be the clues to distinguish ATXN2-P from GU-fPD.

Dental caries, a highly prevalent oral disease, impacts a significant portion of the global population. Conventional approaches that indiscriminately eradicate microbes disrupt the natural equilibrium of the oral microbiota. In contrast, biointervention strategies aim to restore this balance by introducing beneficial microorganisms or inhibiting cariogenic ones. Over the past three decades, microbial preparations have garnered considerable attention in dental research for the prevention and treatment of dental caries. However, unlike related pathologies in the gastrointestinal, vaginal, and respiratory tracts, dental caries occurs on hard tissues such as tooth enamel and is closely associated with localized acid overproduction facilitated by cariogenic biofilms. Therefore, it is insufficient to rely solely on previous mechanisms to delineate the role of microbial preparations in the oral cavity. A more comprehensive perspective should involve considering the concepts of cariogenic biofilms. This review elucidates the latest research progress, mechanisms of action, challenges, and future research directions regarding probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics for the prevention and treatment of dental caries, taking into account the unique pathogenic mechanisms of dental caries. With an enhanced understanding of oral microbiota, personalized microbial therapy will emerge as a critical future research trend.

Polymyxin B, produced by Paenibacillus polymyxa, is used as the last line of defense clinically. In this study, exogenous mixture of precursor amino acids increased the level and proportion of polymyxin B1 in the total of polymyxin B analogs of P. polymyxa CJX518-AC (PPAC) from 0.15 g/L and 61.8 % to 0.33 g/L and 79.9 %, respectively. The co-culture of strain PPAC and recombinant Corynebacterium glutamicum-leu01, which produces high levels of threonine, leucine, and isoleucine, increased polymyxin B1 production to 0.64 g/L. When strains PPAC and C. glu-leu01 simultaneously inoculated into an optimized medium with 20 g/L peptone, polymyxin B1 production was increased to 0.97 g/L. Furthermore, the polymyxin B1 production in the co-culture of strains PPAC and C. glu-leu01 increased to 2.21 g/L after optimized inoculation ratios and fermentation medium with 60 g/L peptone. This study provides a new strategy to improve polymyxin B1 production.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are widely used in industrial production, causing potential health risks to the residents living around chemical industrial plants; however, the lack of data on population exposure and adverse effects impedes our understanding and ability to prevent risks. In this study, we performed screening and association analysis on exogenous PFAS pollutants and endogenous small-molecule metabolites in the serum of elderly residents living near industrial plants. Exposure levels of 11 legacy and novel PFASs were determined. PFOA and PFOS were major contributors, and PFNA, PFHxS, and 6:2 Cl-PFESA also showed high detection frequencies. Association analysis among PFASs and 287 metabolites identified via non-target screening was performed with adjustments of covariates and false discovery rate. Strongly associated metabolites were predominantly lipid and lipid-like molecules. Steroid hormone biosynthesis, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and fatty-acid-related pathways, including biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid metabolism, α-linolenic acid metabolism, and fatty acid biosynthesis, were enriched as the metabolic pathways associated with mixed exposure to multiple PFASs, providing metabolic explanation and evidence for the potential mediating role of adverse health effects as a result of PFAS exposure. Our study achieved a comprehensive screening of PFAS exposure and associated metabolic profiling, demonstrating the promising application for integrated analysis of exposome and metabolome.

As the key stage for purifying wastewater, elimination of emerging contaminants (ECs) is found to be fairly low in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). However, less knowledge is obtained regarding the transformation pathways between various chemical structures of ECs under different treatment processes. This study unveiled the transformation pathways of ECs with different structures in 15 WWTPs distributed across China by simplified network analysis (SNA) we proposed. After treatment, the molecular weight of the whole component of wastewater decreased and the hydrophilicity increased. There are significant differences in the structure of eliminated, consistent and formed pollutants. Amino acids, peptides, and analogues (AAPAs) were detected most frequently and most removable. Benzenoids were refractory. Triazoles were often produced. The high-frequency reactions in different WWTPs were similar, (de)methylation and dehydration occurred most frequently. Different biological treatment processes performed similarly, while some advanced treatment processes differed, such as a significant increase of -13.976 (2HO reaction) paired mass distances (PMDs) in the chlorine alone process. Further, the common structural transformation was uncovered. 4 anti-hypertensive drugs, including irbesartan, valsartan, olmesartan, and losartan, were identified, along with 22 transformation products (TPs) of them. OH2 and H2O PMDs occurred most frequently and in 80.81 % of the parent-transformation product pairs, the intensity of the product was higher than parent in effluents, whose risk should be considered in future assessment activity. Together our results provide a macrography perspective on the transformation processes of ECs in WWTPs. In the future, selectively adopting wastewater treatment technology according to structures is conductive for eliminating recalcitrant ECs in WWTPs.

Fengycin has great potential for applications in biological control because of its biosafety and degradability. In this study, the addition of exogenous precursors increased fengycin production by Bacillus subtilis. Corynebacterium glutamicum was engineered to produce high levels of precursors (Thr, Pro, Val, and Ile) to promote the biosynthesis of fengycin. Furthermore, recombinant C. glutamicum and Yarrowia lipolytica providing amino acid and fatty acid precursors were co-cultured to improve fengycin production by B. subtilis in a three-strain artificial consortium, in which fengycin production was 2100 mg·L-1. In addition, fengycin production by the consortium in a 5 L bioreactor reached 3290 mg·L-1. Fengycin had a significant antifungal effect on Rhizoctonia solani, which illustrates its potential as a food preservative. Taken together, this work provides a new strategy for improving fengycin production by a microbial consortium and metabolic engineering.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is a prevalent gynecological malignancy worldwide, and 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modification of mRNA is a crucial epigenetic modification associated with the development and occurrence of several cancers. However, the precise function of m5C modification in EC remains elusive. This study aimed to investigate the expression and clinical significance of the primary m5C modification writer, NSUN2, in EC. Our findings indicated that NSUN2 exhibited a substantial up-regulation in EC as a result of an epigenetic augmentation in H3K4me3 levels within the promoter region, which was triggered by the down-regulation of KDM5A. Moreover, gain- and loss-of-function experiments revealed the role of NSUN2 in enhancing m5C modification of mRNA, thereby promoting EC cell proliferation. RNA bisulfite sequencing and transcriptomic sequencing were employed to elucidate the involvement of NSUN2 in the regulation of ferroptosis. Subsequent in vitro experiments confirmed that the knockdown of NSUN2 significantly up-regulated the levels of lipid peroxides and lipid ROS in EC cells, thereby augmenting the susceptibility of EC to ferroptosis. Mechanistically, NSUN2 stimulated the m5C modification of SLC7A11 mRNA, and the m5C reader YBX1 exhibited direct recognition and binding to the m5C sites on SLC7A11 mRNA via its internal cold shock domain (CSD), leading to an increase in SLC7A11 mRNA stability and elevated levels of SLC7A11. Additionally, rescue experiments showed that NSUN2 functioned as a suppressor of ferroptosis, which was dependent on SLC7A11. Overall, targeting the NSUN2/SLC7A11 axis inhibited tumor growth by increasing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis of EC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, our study provides new insight into the role of NSUN2, suggesting that NSUN2 may serve as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in patients with EC.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Paris polyphylla var. Yunnanensis (Franch.) Hand.-Mazz., a perennial medicinal herb commonly known as "Chonglou" in Chinese, is mainly effective against innominate toxin swelling, insect sting, snake bite, traumatic injuries and various inflammatory. It is also recorded with mild toxicity. The rare species Paris luquanensis H. Li has been also used as folk medicine in Yunnan province for the same effects. Compared with P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis (35-100 cm in height), this species has variegated leaves, and grows slower and is therefore shorter (6-23 cm in height). There are a number of different cultivars based on the shape of the petal and the height of Paris plant. However, currently, investigations into the differences of the chemical profiling of these cultivars are lacking. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims to: (1) examine metabolites variations in Paris polyphylla var. Yunnanensis cultivars and Paris luquanensis; (2) investigate the different metabolite accumulation patterns between rhizomes and leaves and provide more useful information for the application of P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis leaves; (3) compare in vivo effects on the recruitment of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Neutrophils and toxic effects in zebrafish model between leaves and rhizomes of P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis and P. luquanensis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The change patterns of metabolites in the leaves and rhizomes of four P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis cultivars and one P. luquanensis cultivar were analyzed using an UPLC-ESI-MS/MS system. The total phenolic acid, total flavonoid, total saponin components and in vitro antioxidant activities were determined by spectrophotometric methods. The in vivo toxicity and their effects on the recruitment of ROS and neutrophils in zebrafish model were performed. RESULTS: The widely targeted metabolomics method detected 695 metabolites in tested samples and classified as 15 known classes according to structures of the metabolites. By overall-comparing the SDMs discerned between leaves and rhizomes of each samples, 161 metabolites were substantially altered in all the cultivars. There are 62 and 64 SDMs showing constitutive differential accumulation between leaves and rhizomes of P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis (samples A-D) and P. luquanensis (sample E), respectively. The levels of TSC, TPC and TFC decreased significantly in leaves as compared to rhizomes for all cultivars, with the exception of TPC in cultivar A, which is almost the same in leave and rhizome. The DPPH scavenging property and FRAP values of rhizomes are higher than those of leaves for all cultivars. However, there is no distinct different between leaves and rhizomes of different sample extracts for in vivo effects on the recruitment of ROS and neutrophils in zebrafish model. BL extracts showed high toxicity to the developing embryos. CONCLUSION: As far as we are concerned, this study analyzes the P. polyphylla var. Yunnanensis and P. luquanensis variegation from the perspective of the metabolites pattern for the first time. The results give a valuable insight into the specie metabolic profiling and in vivo anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and toxic effects of these Paris plants.

Drawing on queer of color critique, this paper uses mixed methods including participant observation, interviews, visual and textual analysis, and photovoice to interrogate sex workers' queer creative practices. Building upon the larger oeuvre of sex working artists, contemporary sex working artists in Los Angeles utilizes queer creativity to thwart hegemonic readings of sex work. Performances at two activist fundraisers drew on the themes and esthetics of sex work to counter mainstream narratives about sex work and workers, and to interrupt their objectification. The cover and graphics of a sex worker zine push back against dominant narratives about sex workers and the power structures that suppress sex worker self-representation. Photovoice methodology allowed sex workers to counteract objectification by telling their own stories. In their creative products, sex workers show how "queer" is a praxis of sex and gender disruption, rather than a simple identity category signaling non-heterosexuality, challenging homonormativity in addition to heteronormativity.
