The endoscope utilized by otolaryngologists for the past 10 yr has a place in the armamentarium of the endodontist as well. It provides improved visualization of root apicies, especially those not in the line of direct vision. It can illuminate and identify roots in the sinus if such treatment becomes necessary. By allowing a magnified view of the root-end preparation before and after placement of the filling material, any fractures or extraneous material can be identified. This instrument is quite small and readily transportable from one operatory to another. The cost is a fraction of the price of the surgical microscope.

A DNA probe (Gen-Probe PACE 2) detects portions of viable and nonviable organisms, and test results could remain positive after effective treatment of genital Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection. Twenty patients underwent test-of-cure studies 6 to 11 days after standard treatment for gonorrhea; in each case the DNA probe finding was negative. The Gen-Probe PACE 2 probe is reliable for test-of-cure study as early as 6 days after treatment.

A case of dens invaginatus is presented in which a greatly enlarged mandibular lateral incisor radiographically appeared to have a tooth within a tooth (dens in dente). The dens was treated endodontically without violating the integrity of the pulp.

The isolated perfused crop of Aplysia dactylomela was used to assess the effects of applied serotonin on 1st order small phasic contractions, 2nd order large tonic contractions, and 3rd order slow changes in tonus. Very low concentrations of serotonin may potentiate spontaneous contractions. Concentrations of the order of 10(-7) M serotonin may regularize "beating" of the crop by suppressing large tonic contractions while potentiating phasic contractions. Concentrations higher than 10(-5) M serotonin induce prolonged tonic contracture.
