RESUMO

Epidermal growth factor (EGF)/EFG receptor (EGFR) signaling plays an important role in the osteoblastogenesis. The potential effects of pilose antler peptide (PAP) on osteoblast cell damages was investigated in our present study through EGF/EGFR signaling. In MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells, PAP treatment significantly inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines by decreasing the levels of serum proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). PAP treatment also alleviated the oxidative responses as indicated by increased activities of catalase (SOD) and decreased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). EGF inhibition, by siRNA knockdown, almost abolished PAP-induced osteoblast cytoprotection against inflammation and oxidant stress. Further, our results showed that PAP stimulated the nuclear erythroid factor 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)2/heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) signaling, and inhibited the activation of uclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway in MC3T3-E1 cells. On the other hand, EGF siRNA knockdown inhibited PAP-induced cytoprotection, which decreased the expression of Nrf-2, HO-1 and increased the level of p-NF-κBp65, p-IκBα in MC3T3-E1 cells. Thus, our research demonstrated that PAP protects osteoblasts from inflammatory and oxidative injury through EGF/EGFR signaling.

OBJECTIVE To set up an intranasal ovalbumin-induced animal model of allergic rhinitis(AR) accompanied with olfactory dysfunction in mice. By observing the olfactory pathway in mice using manganese-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MEMRI) and the relatively morphologic structural and immunological changes in olfactory epithelium, the influence of AR on olfactory receptor neurons(ORNs) was studied.METHODS Forty SD mice were randomly divided into two groups, the research group(n=30) and the control group(n=10). The research group was intraperitoneally injected and intranasal application of ovalbumin to establish an AR mice model. The olfactory function of the mice was evaluated by buried food test(BFT). ELISA was performed to measure the level of IgE in serum. MEMRI images were acquired with a 7.0 T micro-MR scanner. HE staining and immunohistochemistry were used to observe the tissues morphology change of olfactory mucosa and OMP expression.RESULTS The olfactory function evaluation of the AR mice model indicated that the incidence of olfactory dysfunction in AR mice was 40.0%. The AR mice with olfactory dysfunction had no signal enhancement in MEMRI. The olfactory epithelium became thinner, layer numbers of ORNs were decreased with disorder arrangement and the OMP expression was decreased in AR mice with olfactory dysfunction compared with that in AR mice without olfactory dysfunction(P=0.018) and the control group(P=0.0141).CONCLUSION An animal model of AR accompanied with olfactory dysfunction in mice was successfully established. The influence of AR on ORNs and thus cause the change of the olfactory pathway is one of the major pathogenesis of olfactory dysfunction in AR.

RESUMO

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a major complication of liver cirrhosis. In recent years, with the development of biotechnology, such as high-throughput sequencing and intestinal metagenomics, the role of intestinal flora in liver diseases has been taken more and more seriously. Bacterial translocation, especially the translocation of Gram-negative enteric bacilli, is involved in the development and progression of SBP. This article briefly describes the factors related to the development and progression of SBP and the important role of intestinal flora in SBP. The improvement in biotechnology clarifies the role of intestinal flora in diseases, and restoration of balanced intestinal flora may become a new method for the prevention and treatment of SBP.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the efficacy and feasibility of harmonic scalpel assisted Han-uvalopalatoparyngoplasty (H-UPPP) for obstructive sleep apnea and hyponea syndrome (OSAHS).@*METHOD@#For each case of 23 patients with OSAHS, the left was operated on with traditional method and the right was operated on with harmonic scalpel. Operative blood loss, the operation time, postoperative pain, the condition of wounds and complications were compared for each case itself.@*RESULT@#The operative blood loss, the operation time, of the right with harmonic scalpel were much less than the left with traditional method,while no difference in postoperative pain, incidence of primary and secondary hemorrhage, the condition of wounds was found.@*CONCLUSION@#The application of harmonic scalpel in H-UPPP was safe, efficient and feasible, and would have a nice application prospect during otolaryngology operations.
