BACKGROUND: High-performing students are essential investments in building the nation's future. In Indonesia, however, the correlation between students' health and academic achievement is rarely examined. This study aimed to evaluate primary school students' health status and its relation to their academic achievement. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A survey was conducted on 1335 students from four primary schools in North Jakarta. Health assessments included nutritional status, hair, skin condition, dental, vision, and ear conditions. Parents filled sociodemographic questionnaire. Mid-exam scores in core subjects determined academic achievement. Data were analyzed using binomial logistic regression to determine the relation of health status with students' academic achievement. RESULTS: In the younger group, students who were stunted (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 2.23, 95% CI: 1.11-4.50), had dental caries (AOR 2.16, 95% CI: 1.15-4.04), hair problems (AOR 2.04, 95% CI: 1.15-3.59), and skin problems (AOR 1.49, 95% CI: 1.01-2.20) were more likely to have a low-performing index. In the older group, students with hair problems tend to have a low-performing index (AOR 3.05, 95% CI: 1.88-5.89). Meanwhile, the students who wore eye glasses were more likely to achieve a high-performing index in the older group (AOR 0.60, 95% CI: 0.50-0.78). CONCLUSION: This study shows a significant correlation between students' health status and academic achievement, where students with health problems were more likely to have lower grades compared to their counterparts. Regular health screening and examination are vital to maintaining students' health; therefore, their academic achievement can be increased.

Vaccine hesitancy is a threat for global health. Shortly, millennials and Z generation (gen-Z), the digital natives, are responsible for the future of the children. No study was found yet regarding child immunization and the usage of media in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), Indonesia. This study aim to determine factors affecting millennials' and Z generation's knowledge about child immunization and the usage of media as the source of health information. Online questionnaire was distributed from 25th September to 20th November 2020 to students and workers in Jabodetabek. Subjects with child and/or <15 or >40 years old are excluded. Analysis was done with SPSS 20. Total of 376 subjects with mean age 18 (15-38) years old were collected. Subject's varies from high school students (48.4%), university students (46.2%) and workers (1.6%). Total of 357 (94.9%) subjects willing to complete their future child's immunization. Internet was the primary source of health information for 357 (94.9%) subjects, especially Instagram for 129 (34.3%) subjects. Concluded that subjects' immunization status affects their willingness to fully vaccinate their future children. Digital media (Instagram) is the primary source of health information. Educational background affects their consideration in trusting online sources.

BACKGROUND: Paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS) temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) (PIMS-TS) is a rare clinical syndrome associated with a multiorgan system dysfunction, especially acute cardiac injury, and mandates a higher level of care. AIM OF REVIEW: To investigate cardiac manifestations, treatment characteristics, and outcomes of PIMS-TS. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW: Twenty-six studies were included with 1228 pooled subjects, with a mean age of 8.6 years, which were dominated by male gender (53%), and African ethnicity (31%). 732 (38%) patients were reactive on a serological test, and 457 patients (45%) were positive on SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR. ST-segment abnormalities were the most common ECG findings (16%, n/N: 34/212). Various markers of troponin and the pooled mean of BNP and NT-pro-BNP levels were elevated. Cardiomegaly and pericardial effusion (21.8%, n/N: 164/751) were the most common chest X-ray findings. In echocardiography, the majority of patients' left ventricular ejection fraction was reduced (59.0%, n/N: 180/305), with pericardial effusion/ pericarditis seen the most (17.44%, n/N: 221/1267), and Z score ≥ 2 in 28% (n/N: 42/139). Cardiac MRI findings were consistent with acute myocarditis. Intravenous immunoglobulin, corticosteroids, and vasoactive drugs were frequently utilized. The mean length of stay was 6 days, with most patients (71%, n/N: 834/1163) were admitted to the ICU. However, the overall prognosis was favorable, with 98% alive (n/N: 1235/1260), and more than 50% of patients experienced recovery of left ventricular systolic functions at discharge (116 out of 206 patients).

Initially, SARS-CoV-2 infection had been reported as a relatively mild case in children than in adults. Nevertheless, recent evidence found that a subset of children then developed a significant systemic inflammatory response that resembles atypical/typical Kawasaki's disease (KD) and toxic shock syndrome. This novel clinical syndrome later identified as pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS). In contrast with KD, PIMS-TS appears to occur in children at an older age with a predominance of gastrointestinal symptoms, hemodynamic instability, and myocardial dysfunction. However, the exact pathomechanism remains to be understood. Nevertheless, the post-viral immunological reaction is postulated to be the underlying mechanistic underpinnings. The multifaceted nature of the PIMS-TS' course underlines the need for early recognition and multispecialty care and management.

BACKGROUND: In patients with thalassemia major, examination routinely used for the evaluation of iron load in Indonesia is serum ferritin, but it is strongly influenced by other factors such as infections, inflammation and vitamin C levels. Evaluation of urinary iron excretion is an important and easy method to indicate iron chelation efficacy. OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of iron chelation therapy by urinary iron examination and to evaluate its correlation with the time of transfusion, serum ferritin level, transferrin saturation and T2* MRI. METHODS: Prospective cohort study was conducted in children with thalassemia major aged 7-<18 years old who received DFP therapy. Twenty-four-hour urine collections were examined through inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Patient's serum ferritin, transferrin saturation, peripheral blood, differential count and T2* MRI was documented during the study. Data analysis is based on urine iron level, body iron balance and the correlation between urine iron level, serum ferritin, transferrin saturation and T2* MRI and dosage of DFP. RESULTS: Thirty (55%) subjects showed a higher urine iron level on the day prior to transfusion (mean: 12,828 SD ±12,801 µg/24 h) in comparison to post transfusion (mean: 10,985 SD ±10,023 µg/24 h). All subjects had positive iron balance (mean 524 SD ±230 mg). There were positive correlation between urine iron level and transferrin saturation (r = 0.559, p = 0.01) and serum ferritin (r = 0.291, p = 0.03), no correlation found with T2* MRI results. CONCLUSIONS: There is a relationship to urinary iron excretion in response to chelation therapy and the degree of iron load.
