Faculty-supervised measurements of the face and of mandibular movements on young adults.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the average facial proportions and mandibular movement capacity of 316 first-year dental students who carefully recorded them on each other. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This early exacting clinical experience was closely supervised by the authors in Columbus, Ohio during 1969-70. Five vertical and six horizontal distances were measured on each subject's face. An ala-tragus line and an occlusal line were drawn on the left side of the face to determine if these two lines were parallel. Measurements of mandibular movements involved maximum normal and hinge opening at the incisors and maximum amounts of right, left lateral and protrusive excursions of the mandible. RESULTS: The ala width and distance between the tips of upper right and left canine cusps averaged (35.2 mm and 34.8 mm) but with very large individual variations. The distance between ala to occlusal plane lines was 29.9 mm at the tragus and 31.3 mm near the ala. The angle between orbitale and ala-tragus averaged 13.6 degrees. CONCLUSION: The upper lip length was the most variable and the distance between the pupils was the most stable of the eleven facial measurements. The ala-tragus line and the occlusal plane lines were for all practical purposes parallel. Maximum jaw opening averaged 51.2 mm which was 3.0 times larger than maximal hinge opening of 17.2 mm. The maximum right plus left side jaw excursions (9.2 and 9.4 mm) totaled 18.6 mm, 2.3 times more than the 8.0 mm mean maximum forward protrusion.

Single tooth replacement using a modified metal-ceramic resin-bonded fixed partial denture: a clinical report.

This article describes the use of a modified metal-ceramic resin-bonded fixed partial denture (MMC RBFPD) as a conservative solution for the replacement of an incisor. It is a minimally invasive technique which does not discolor the abutment teeth.

Determinação da relação cêntrica: comparação entre o método da cera preparada e o sistema Leaf Gauge - Leaf Wafer / Determination of centric relation: comparison between prepared wax and the Leaf Gange - Leaf Wafer

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo comparar o registro da relação cêntrica por meio do emprego da cera preparada e do sistema Leaf Gauge-Leaf Wafer. Foram utilizados 11 indivíduos de ambos os sexos, cujas idades variaram de 20 a 29 anos, nos quais se registrou a relação cêntrica empregando-se a cera e o sistema Wafer. Em cada indivíduo foi obtida a inclinação sagital da cabeça da mandíbula por meio de telerradiografia da articulação temporomandibular. Também, nesses indivíduos foi tomada a impressão dos arcos dentários superior e infefior com hidrocolóide irreversível, para a obtenção dos modelos de estudo. Esses foram montados no articulador semi-ajustável GNATUS 8600, tendo como guia de posicionamento a cera preparada e o sistema Wafer, para o registro das inclinações das guias condilianas e dos ângulos de Bennett

In vitro study of root canal anatomy of maxillary second premolars / Estudo \"in vitro\" da anatomia do canal radicular de segundos pré molares superiores

The external anatomy of 435 maxillary second premolars and the internal anatomy of 300 of these premolars were studied in vidro. For the study of the internal anatomy, the teeth were decalcified and cleared. One canal was found in 67.3//of the second premolars, two canals in 32.4//and three canals in 0.3//of these premolars. A total of 90.3//had one root and 9.7//two roots. A predominance of root curvature toward the distal was found in maxillary second premolars with both one or two roots

Morphologic study of the maxillary molars. Part II. Internal anatomy

The internal anatomy of three hundred and seventy (370) decalcified and cleared human maxillary molars was studied. Seventy-five percent of the first molars, 58//of the second molars and 68//of the third molars studied presented three (3) root canals and 25//of the first molars, 42//of the second molars and 32//of the third molars presented four (4) root canals. Novo dispositivo para registro preciso da relação cêntrica / A new device for an accurated record of the centric relation

Um novo sistema de registro das relações maxilo-mandibulares foi descrito. É fácil aprender a usar corretamente, é agradável ao paciente enquanto ajuda a neuromusculatura do paciente a ficar no fechamento retruído desejado na dimensão vertical específica pré-selecionada pelo dentista, e usa pequena quantidade de meios de registro. Registros duplicados podem ser rapidamente feitos para verificação, vários meios de registros podem ser usados, estabilidade melhorada durante a montagem é obtida e o método é aplicável na maioria das situações dentadas e parcialmente desdentadas. Dois elementos são usados, um arco dental, parcialmente perfurado, fino, cartão à prova d'água e folha-padrão de papel disponíveis. As folhas de papel são estreitas e mais sólidas que as de plástico e assim formam melhor pé anterior no tripé com as duas cabeças de mandíbula no fechamento terminal da articulação guiada do paciente (9, 11, 24). A folha-padrão de espessura pré-selecionada é inserida na fenda do cartão que foi deformado exatamente como o plano oclusal por prévio fechamento em oclusão cêntrica. O sistema é rápido, econômico, e menos complexo que a maioria dos métodos usados hoje. Mesmo assim, ele reproduziu com precisão seis mordida-checadas em um paciente de acordo com comparações no instrumento Vericheck (Denar Corp., Anahein, Calif.) (Bumner Graphs.
