The southern China coast areas are often invaded by typhoons, probably causing the redistribution of heavy metals in sediments. The knowledge of the influence of typhoons on the redistribution of heavy metals along the coasts is limited. The sea-floor sediments from the Leizhou Peninsula (LP) coast, southern China, were sampled to test the spatial distribution of the heavy metal before and after typhoons Barijat and Mangkhut in 2018. Results indicated that the coast suffered from varying levels of As contamination, while only minor enrichments were found in a few locations for other heavy metals. The pollution level on the western LP coast seemed to be higher than on the eastern coast. All heavy metals were mainly provided by terrigenous materials from the natural processes and were less affected by grain sizes. After the typhoon landings, more oxidation conditions promoted the deposits of As and the adsorption of Mo by MnO2.

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy has been widely used in the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer due to the excellent advantages of irradiation in cancer therapy. Unfortunately, not every patient can benefit from this treatment, therefore, it is of great significance to explore biomarkers that can predict irradiation sensitivity. In this study, we screened microRNAs (miRNAs) which were positively correlated with irradiation resistance and found that miRNA-552 and miRNA-183 families were positively correlated with the irradiation resistance of rectal cancer, and found that high expression of miRNA-96-5p enhanced the irradiation resistance of rectal cancer cells through direct regulation of the GPC3 gene and abnormal activation of the canonical Wnt signal transduction pathway. Based on the radioreactivity results of patient-derived xenograft models, this is the first screening report for radio-resistant biomarkers in rectal cancer. Our results suggest that miRNA-96-5p expression is an important factor affecting the radiation response of colorectal cancer cells.

Soybean mosaic virus (SMV), a member of the Potyvirus genus, is one of the most prevalent and devastating viral pathogens in soybean-growing regions worldwide. It is generally accepted that symptom development of a viral plant disease results from molecular interactions between the virus and its host plant. P3N-PIPO, as a trans-frame protein consisting of the amino-terminal half of P3 fused to PIPO of the Potyvirus, plays a key role of viral cell-to-cell movement. This study provides evidence that Golgi SNARE 12 (designated as GOS12) protein of soybean interacts with SMV P3N-PIPO via a two-hybrid yeast system by screening a soybean cDNA library. Bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assay further confirmed the interaction, which occurred in the cytomembrane of Nicotiana benthamiana cells. We also confirmed that the domain involved in the interaction is PIPO domain of P3N-PIPO by two-hybrid yeast system and BiFC. It is possible that the GOS12 is an essential host factor for PD targeting of P3N-PIPO protein of potyvirus.
