RESUMO

The piezoelectric and elastic properties are critical for the performance of AlN-based 5G RF filters. The improvement of the piezoelectric response in AlN is often accompanied by lattice softening, which compromises the elastic modulus and sound velocities. Optimizing both the piezoelectric and elastic properties simultaneously is both challenging and practically desirable. In this work, 117 X0.125Y0.125Al0.75N compounds were studied with the high-throughput first-principles calculation. B0.125Er0.125Al0.75N, Mg0.125Ti0.125Al0.75N, and Be0.125Ce0.125Al0.75N were found to have both high C33 (>249.592 GPa) and high e33 (>1.869 C/m2). The COMSOL Multiphysics simulation showed that most of the quality factor (Qr) values and the effective coupling coefficient (Keff2) of the resonators made with these three materials were higher than those with Sc0.25AlN with the exception of the Keff2 of Be0.125Ce0.125AlN, which was lower due to the higher permittivity. This result demonstrates that double-element doping of AlN is an effective strategy to enhance the piezoelectric strain constant without softening the lattice. A large e33 can be achieved with doping elements having d-/f- electrons and large internal atomic coordinate changes of du/dε. The doping elements-nitrogen bond with a smaller electronegativity difference (ΔEd) leads to a larger elastic constant C33.

RESUMO

Thermoelectric devices based power generation and cooling systemsystem have lot of advantages over conventional refrigerator and power generators, becausebecause of solid-state devicesdevices, compact size, good scalability, nono-emissions and low maintenance requirement with long operating lifetime. However, the applications of thermoelectric devices have been limited owingowing to their low energy conversion efficiency. It has drawn tremendous attention in the field of thermoelectric materials and devices in the 21st century because of the need of sustainable energy harvesting technology and the ability to develop higher performance thermoelectric materials through nanoscale science and defect engineering. Among various fabrication methods, electrodeposition is one of the most promising synthesis methods to fabricate devices because of its ability to control morphology, composition, crystallinity, and crystal structure of materials through controlling electrodeposition parameters. Additionally, it is an additive manufacturing technique with minimum waste materials that operates at near room temperature. Furthermore, its growth rate is significantly higher (i.e., a few hundred microns per hour) than the vacuum processes, which allows device fabrication in cost effective matter. In this paper, the latest development of various electrodeposited thermoelectric materials (i.e., Te, PbTe, Bi2Te3 and their derivatives, BiSe, BiS, Sb2Te3) in different forms including thin films, nanowires, and nanocomposites were comprehensively reviewed. Additionally, their thermoelectric properties are correlated to the composition, morphology, and crystal structure.

RESUMO

The defects on the surface of low-temperature-processed electronic transport layers hindered the development of efficient flexible perovskite solar cells. Herein, we develop a universal NdCl3 dosing strategy to circumvent the residual Sn(II)-OH defects from the incomplete wet-chemical reaction. The introduction of NdCl3 does not lead to the doping of Nd3+ ions but rather the formation of a composite film of NdCl3 with SnOx. The dose of NdCl3 effectively reduces surface trap states at low-temperature-processed SnOx films, leading to increased carrier extraction and reduced carrier accumulation/recombination at the ETL/perovskite interface. These improvements result in perovskite solar cells (PvSCs) with significantly enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) and eliminated hysteresis. Finally, efficiencies of 18.62% and 21.49% for PvSCs based on MAPbI3 and FA1-xMAxPbI3 perovskites, respectively, were achieved on rigid substrates. The test on a flexible device based on Cs0.05(FA0.83MA0.17)0.95(I0.83Br0.17)3 perovskite realized a PCE of 16.14% and an incredible VOC of 1.158 V. This study indicated the potential of NdCl3 dose as a universal approach to enhance the performance of PvSCs with low-temperature-processed SnOx ETL.

RESUMO

A systematic electrochemical study was conducted to investigate the reduction of tellurium (Te) in alkaline solutions. The effect of various parameters, including tellurite ion concentration, applied potential, and pH was investigated by both linear sweep voltammograms (LSVs) and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). EQCM was essential to understand the reduction of Te(0) to soluble Te 2 2 - (-I) or Te2-(-II). The Tafel slopes for two Te reduction reactions [i.e., Te(IV) to Te(0) and Te(0) to Te(-I)] indicated that the electrochemical reduction of Te is strongly dependent on solution pH, whereas it is independent of the concentration of TeO 3 2 - . At relatively weaker alkaline solutions (i.e., pH ≤ 12.5), the discharge of Te ( OH ) 3 + was determined to be the rate-limiting step during the reduction of Te(IV) to Te(0). For the reduction of Te(0) to Te(-I), the reaction follows a four-step reaction, which consisted of two discharge and two electrochemical reactions. The second discharge reaction was the rate-limiting step when pH ≤12.5 with the Tafel slope of 120 mV/decade. At a higher pH of 14.7, the Tafel slope was shifted to be 40 mV/decade, which indicated that the rate-limiting step was altered to the second electrochemical reaction. Te(0) deposits were found either on the surface of an electrode or in the solution depending on pH due to the different rate-limiting reactions, revealing that pH was a key parameter to dictate the morphology of the Te(0) deposits in alkaline media.

RESUMO

Oxide perovskite materials have a long history of being investigated for thermoelectric applications. Compared to the state-of-the-art tin and lead chalcogenides, these perovskite compounds have advantages of low toxicity, eco-friendliness, and high elemental abundance. However, because of low electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity, the total thermoelectric performance of oxide perovskites is relatively poor. Variety of methods were used to enhance the TE properties of oxide perovskite materials, such as doping, inducing oxygen vacancy, embedding crystal imperfection, and so on. Recently, hybrid perovskite materials started to draw attention for thermoelectric application. Due to the low thermal conductivity and high Seebeck coefficient feature of hybrid perovskites materials, they can be promising thermoelectric materials and hold the potential for the application of wearable energy generators and cooling devices. This mini-review will build a bridge between oxide perovskites and burgeoning hybrid halide perovskites in the research of thermoelectric properties with an aim to further enhance the relevant performance of perovskite-type materials.

RESUMO

Background. Whether routine antifungal prophylaxis decreases posttransplantation fungal infections in patients receiving orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of antifungal prophylaxis for patients receiving OLT. Patients and Methods. This is a retrospective analysis of a database at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. We have been administering routine antibiotic and prophylactic antifungal regimens to recipients with high model for end-stage liver disease scores (>20) since 2009. After propensity score matching, 402 patients were enrolled. We conducted a multistate model to analyze the cumulative hazards, probability of fungal infections, and risk factors. Results. The cumulative hazards and transition probability of "transplantation to fungal infection" were lower in the prophylaxis group. The incidence rate of fungal infection after OLT decreased from 18.9% to 11.4% (p = 0.052); overall mortality improved from 40.8% to 23.4% (p < 0.001). In the "transplantation to fungal infection" transition, prophylaxis was significantly associated with reduced hazards for fungal infection (hazard ratio: 0.57, 95% confidence interval: 0.34-0.96, p = 0.033). Massive ascites, cadaver transplantation, and older age were significantly associated with higher risks for mortality. Conclusion. Prophylactic antifungal regimens in high-risk recipients might decrease the incidence of posttransplant fungal infections.

RESUMO

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is the choice of treatment not only for end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure but also for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The development of de novo malignancies after liver transplantation plays an important role in late mortality; the incidence of late mortality has increased owing to improved survival. The incidence of de novo malignancies is 2.3% to 25%, which is 2 to 3 times that of malignancies in the general population. The most commonly reported de novo malignancies in solid organs are skin cancer, Karposi sarcoma, and colon cancer according to the frequency of exposure to a specific carcinogen. We hypothesized that exposure to different carcinogens would change the distribution of de novo malignancies among patients after OLT. In Taiwan, 10% of the population is exposed to a unique carcinogen, the betel quid, which is associated with a high incidence of head and neck cancer (HNC) among the Taiwanese population. From 2004 to 2014, we retrospectively reviewed 484 cases post-OLT at our institution and 16 patients with 17 de novo malignancies were identified. Most of the patients had HNC, which is in contrast to previous literature reports.Univariate and multivariate analyses identified betel quid chewing as the main leading factor for HNC in the Taiwanese population.Routine screening of the oral mucosa in patients with the habit of betel quid chewing is recommended in Taiwan for the early detection of HNC. Routine screening with aggressive treatment after diagnosis of HNC in patients with the habit of chewing betel quid, who underwent OLT, resulted in good patient prognosis.

RESUMO

Adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation is an alternative to donation from a deceased individual, and can help relieve the shortage of liver donations available for adult patients in Asian countries. When transplant candidates have thrombosis and deterioration of the portal vein, living donor liver transplantation is relatively contraindicated because portal veins in the grafts are short and vein grafts may not be available to reconstruct the portal vein. From June 2003 to May 2007, 82 adult living donor liver transplantations were performed at Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital. Three patients had portal vein thrombosis and marked fibrosis of the portal vein and cryopreserved vein grafts were used to reconstruct portal flow from the engorged coronary vein to the graft portal vein. All vein grafts are patent and all patients have normal liver function at 21-36 months after transplantation. When cryopreserved vein grafts are available, adult living donor liver transplantation can be successfully performed in patients with marked deterioration of the portal vein. The short distance from the engorged coronary vein to the graft portal vein may decrease the incidence of re-thrombosis of the venous conduit.

RESUMO

Primary splenic angiosarcoma is a very rare, aggressive neoplasm with a high metastatic rate and dismal prognosis. This neoplasm usually presents with abdominal pain, splenomegaly, anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Splenic angiosarcoma with bleeding gastrointestinal metastases is extremely rare. The literature contains only two case reports. This study reported a 44-year-old male patient with splenic angiosarcoma with sustained repeated gastrointestinal bleeding due to small bowel metastases. Salvage surgery was performed by splenectomy and resection of the metastatic small bowel tumors. The post-operative course was uneventful; the patient survived with the disease and had no GI bleeding, 7 mo after surgery.
