RESUMO

Birnessite-type MnO2 (δ-MnO2) exhibits great potential as a cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). However, the structural instability and sluggish reaction kinetics restrict its further application. Herein, a unique protons intercalation strategy was utilized to simultaneously modify the interlayer environment and transition metal layers of δ-MnO2. The intercalated protons directly form strong O  H bonds with the adjacent oxygens, while the increased H2O molecules also establish a hydrogen bond network (O  H···O) between H2O molecules or bond with adjacent oxygens. Based on the Grotthuss mechanism, these bondings ultimately enhance the stability of layered structures and facilitate the rapid diffusion of protons. Moreover, the introduction of protons induces numerous oxygen vacancies, reduces steric hindrance, and accelerates ion transport kinetics. Consequently, the protons intercalated δ-MnO2 (H-MnO2-x) demonstrates exceptional specific capacity of 401.7 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g and a fast-charging performance over 1000 cycles. Density functional theory analysis confirms the improved electronic conductivity and reduced diffusion energy barrier. Most importantly, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance tests combining with ex-situ characterizations verify the inhibitory effect of the interlayer proton environment on basic zinc sulfate formation. Protons intercalation behavior provides a promising avenue for the development of MnO2 as well as other cathodes in AZIBs.

BACKGROUND: There is controversy surrounding the association between preexisting frailty and increased mortality in candidates and recipients of solid-organ transplants. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of preexisting frailty on survival outcomes in solid-organ transplant candidates and recipients. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Embase databases until October 2, 2023. Two reviewers independently selected the eligible studies according to the PECOS criteria: Participants (candidates and recipients of solid-organ transplants), Exposure (frailty), Comparison (no-frailty), Outcomes (waitlist or posttransplant mortality), and Study design (retrospective or prospective cohort studies). The pooled effects were summarized by pooling the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) with 95 % confidence intervals (CI) for the frail patients than those without frailty. RESULTS: Sixteen studies with 10091 patients met the eligibility criteria. Depending on the frailty tools used, the prevalence of frailty in solid-organ transplant candidates/recipients ranged from 4.6 % to 45.1 %. Frailty was significantly associated with an increased risk of waitlist mortality (HR 2.44; 95 % CI 1.84-3.24) and posttransplant mortality (HR 2.23; 95 % CI 1.61-3.09) in solid-organ transplant candidates and recipients, respectively. Subgroup analyses showed that the association of preexisting frailty with waitlist mortality and posttransplant mortality appeared to stronger in kidney transplant candidates (HR 2.70; 95 % CI 1.93-3.78) and lung transplantation recipients (HR 2.52; 95 % CI 1.23-5.15). CONCLUSION: Frailty is a significant predictor of reduced survival in solid-organ transplant candidates and recipients. Assessment of frailty has the potential to identify patients who are suitable for transplantation.

Mitochondria play a crucial role in maintaining cellular energy supply and serve as a source of energy for repairing nerve damage following a stroke. Given that exercise has the potential to enhance energy metabolism, investigating the impact of exercise on mitochondrial function provides a plausible mechanism for stroke treatment. In our study, we established the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model in Sprague-Dawley rats and implemented early exercise intervention. Neurological severity scores, beam-walking test score, and weight were used to evaluate neurological function. The volume of cerebral infarction was measured by MRI. Nerve cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining. Mitochondrial morphology and structure were detected by mitochondrial electron microscopy. Mitochondrial function was assessed using membrane potential and ATP measurements. Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression of AMPK/PGC-1α/GLUT4. Through the above experiments, we found that early exercise improved neurological function in rats after MCAO, reduced cerebral infarction volume and neuronal apoptosis, promoted the recovery of mitochondrial morphology and function. We further examined the protein expression of AMPK/PGC-1α/GLUT4 signaling pathway and confirmed that early exercise was able to increase its expression. Therefore, we suggest that early exercise initiated the AMPK/PGC-1α/GLUT4 signaling pathway, restoring mitochondrial function and augmenting energy supply. This, in turn, effectively improved both nerve and body function in rats following ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND: Gut bacteria have an important influence on colorectal cancer (CRC). The differences of gut bacteria between genders have been the hot spots. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the relationship between gut bacteria and gender differences in patients with CRC. METHODS: A total of 212 patients with CRC and 212 healthy volunteers were recruited. The subjects' fecal samples were obtained, and the fecal microorganisms were analyzed by the third-generation sequencing PacBio. The composition of gut bacteria was analyzed. Linear discriminant analysis Effect Size (LEfSe) was used to analyze the differences in gut bacteria. Pearson coefficient was used to calculate the correlation between differential bacteria. CRC risk prediction models were used to rank the importance of effective differential bacteria. RESULTS: Escherichia flexneri and Phocaeicola vulgatus were the most frequent bacteria in both male and female CRC patients. Bacteroides, Verrucomicrobia and Akkermansiaceae were highly enriched in male CRC group, while Bacteroidetes, Phocaeicola and Tissierellales were highly enriched in female CRC group. Peptostreptococcus anaerobius and Phocaeicola vulgatus were important CRC related bacteria in males and females, respectively. Peptostreptococcus anaerobius was the most important characteristic bacterium of males (AUC = 0.951), and the sensitivity and specificity of the discovery set were 78.74 % and 93.98 %, respectively. Blautia stercoris was the most important characteristic bacterium of females (AUC = 0.966), and the sensitivity and specificity of the discovery set were 90.63 % and 90.63 %, respectively. CONCLUSION: Gut bacteria varied in different genders. Therefore, gender should be considered when gut bacteria are applied in the diagnose and prevention of CRC.

Learning interest (internal driving motivation) and learning persistence (explicit behaviors) are important factors affecting students' academic development, yet whether they operate reciprocally and how to bolster them are still issues requiring attention. This study aimed to examine the reciprocal relationship between learning interest and persistence as well as the potential mechanisms behind the relationship from the perspectives of internal self-regulation and external feedback (i.e., academic performance). 510 students (Mage = 13.71, SD = 1.77, 44.1% girls) were tracked for one year using questionnaires. Results showed that higher learning interest was linked to greater subsequent learning persistence and vice versa; and both predicted each other over time indirectly through academic performance and the multiple mediating paths from strategies for self-regulated learning behaviors to academic performance. Ancillary analysis verifies the robustness of these results. The findings not only provide evidence of a dynamic relationship between learning motivation and behaviors, highlighting the important role of positive performance feedback in leading to a benign cycle, but also contribute to understanding the potential avenue (i.e., teaching strategies for self-regulation) for optimizing student learning.

The rapidly changing climate is exacerbating the environmental stress that negatively impacts crop health and yield. Timely sensing of plant response to stress is beneficial to timely adjust planting conditions, promoting the healthy growth of plants, and improving plant productivity. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an important molecule of signal transduction in plants. However, the common methods for detecting H2O2  in plants are associated with certain drawbacks, such as long extraction time, cumbersome steps, dependence on large instruments, and difficulty in realizing in-field sensing. Therefore, it is urgent to establish more efficient detection methods to realize the rapid detection of H2O2 content in plants. In this research, poly (methyl vinyl ether-alt-maleic acid) (PMVE/MA) hydrogel microneedle (MN) patch for rapid extraction of leaf sap are prepared, and the extraction mechanism of PEG-crosslinked PMVE/MA hydrogel MN patch is studied. A method of rapid detection of H2O2 content in plants based on MN patch with optical detection technology is constructed. The hydrogel MN patch can be used for timely H2O2 analysis. This application enables new opportunities in plant engineering, and can be extended to the safety and health monitoring of other plants and animals.

The recent revolution in the superconductivity field stems from hydride superconductors. Multicomponent hydrides provide a crucial platform for tracking high-temperature superconductors. Besides high superconducting transition temperature (Tc), achieving both giant upper critical magnetic field [µ0Hc2(0)] and high critical current density [Jc(0)] is also key to the latent potential of the application for hydride superconductors. In this work, we have successfully synthesized quaternary La-Y-Ce hydrides with excellent properties under moderate pressure by using the concept of "entropy engineering." The obtained temperature dependence of the resistance provides evidence for the superconductivity of Fm3m-(La,Y,Ce)H10, with the maximum Tc ∼ 190 K (at 112 GPa). Notably, Fm3m-(La,Y,Ce)H10 boasts exceptional properties: µ0Hc2(0) reaching 292 T and Jc(0) surpassing 4.61 × 107 A/cm2. Compared with the binary LaH10/YH10, we find that the Fm3m structure in (La,Y,Ce)H10 can be stable at relatively low pressures (112 GPa). These results indicate that multicomponent hydrides can significantly enhance the superconducting properties and regulate stabilizing pressure through the application of "entropy engineering." This work stimulates the experimental exploration of multihydride superconductors and also provides a reference for the search of room-temperature superconductors in more diversified hydride materials in the future.

Heat stress is an important factor affecting poultry production; birds have a range of inflammatory reactions under high-temperature environments. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of dietary curcumin supplementation on the liver transcriptome of laying hens under heat stress conditions. In the animal experiment, a total of 240 Hy-Line brown hens aged 280 days were divided randomly into four different experimental diets with four replicates, and each replicate consisted of 15 hens during a 42-D experiment. The ambient temperature was adjusted to 34 ± 2 °C for 8 h per day, transiting to a range of 22 °C to 28 °C for the remaining 16 h. In the previous study of our lab, it was found that supplemental 150 mg/kg curcumin can improve production performance, antioxidant enzyme activity, and immune function in laying hens under heat stress. To further investigate the regulatory mechanism of curcumin on heat stress-related genes, in total, six samples of three liver tissues from each of 0 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg curcumin test groups were collected for RNA-seq analysis. In the transcriptome analysis, we reported for the first time that the genes related to heat stress of mRNA, such as HSPA8, HSPH1, HSPA2, and DNAJA4, were co-expressed with lncRNA such as XLOC010450, XLOC037987, XLOC053511, XLOC061207, and XLOC100318, and all of these genes are shown to be down-regulated. These findings provide a scientific basis for the possible benefits of dietary curcumin addition in heat-stressed laying hens.

Background: Psychological problems related to employment are among the most common psychological problems faced by rural college students. Employment stress is an important factor affecting the development of psychological health in employees; thus, reducing employment stress can improve the psychological state of employment. Objective: This study aimed to understand the potential profiles of employment stress among rural college students to determine the relationship between different profiles and employment psychology. Methods: This study was conducted in a higher education institution in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China between June and December 2023, and 249 rural college students participated. The Employment Stress Scale and Employment Psychology Scale were used to collect the data. Data were analyzed using latent profile analysis, independent sample t-tests, and binary logistic regression analysis. Results: The results showed that rural university students were categorized into low-level (49.80%) and high-level (50.21%) employment stress groups. There was a statistically significant difference between the employment psychology of rural college students in the low- and high-level groups (p < 0.001). Juniors/seniors were more likely to be classified in the high-level group (OR = 0.477, p = 0.011). Conclusion: Intervention programs should be developed and implemented to address the characteristics of employment stress among rural college students with different profiles to promote the healthy development of their attitudes toward employment.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to examine the effects of a 500 kcal reduction in daily energy intake alone and in combination with 90 min of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise per week on body weight, body composition, and appetite sensations in young women with normal BMI and abnormal body fat percentage. METHODS: sixty-six young women with normal BMI and abnormal body fat percentage (21.33 ± 1.20 kg/m2 and 34.32 ± 2.94%) were randomly assigned into three groups: (1) caloric restriction (CR; n = 22), (2) caloric restriction with exercise (CR-EX; n = 22), and (3) control (C; n = 22). Data on anthropometry, blood samples, and subjective appetite sensations pre- and post-intervention were collected. RESULTS: After 4 weeks of intervention, CR and CR-EX groups both reduced body weight, fat percentage, and waist and hip circumferences compared to the C group (p < 0.05). Muscle mass of the CR group was significantly lower than that of the C group (-1.21 ± 0.86 kg vs. -0.27 ± 0.82 kg, p < 0.05), and no significant difference between CR-EX and C groups was observed. For appetite sensations, the subjects of the CR group showed significant increases in change of scores in desire to eat and prospective consumption than that of the C group (p < 0.05), while no significant difference between CR-EX and C groups was observed. CONCLUSION: A 500 kcal reduction in daily energy intake alone and in combination with 90 min of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise per week could both reduce weight and improve body composition in young adult women with normal BMI and abnormal body fat percentage. More importantly, calorie restriction combined with exercise intervention was superior to calorie restriction alone in improving muscle mass loss and regulating appetite sensations.

Natural polyphenolic compound rosmarinic acid (RA) has good antitumor activity. However, the distinctive tumor microenvironment, characterized by low pH and elevated levels of glutathione (GSH), enhances the tolerance of tumors to the singular anti-tumor treatment mode using RA, resulting in unsatisfactory therapeutic efficacy. Targeting nonapoptotic programmed cell death processes may provide another impetus to inhibit tumor growth. RA possesses the capability to coordinate with metal elements. To solve the effect restriction of the above single treatment mode, it is proposed to construct a self-assembled nanocomposite, Fe-RA. Under tumor microenvironment, Fe-RA nanocomposite exerts the characteristics of POD-like enzyme activity and depletion of GSH, producing a large amount of hydroxyl radical (·OH) while disrupting the antioxidant defense system of tumor cells. Moreover, due to the enhanced permeability and retention effect (EPR), Fe-RA can transport Fe2+ to a greater extent to tumor cells and increase intracellular iron content. Causing an imbalance in iron metabolism in tumor cells and promoting cell ferroptosis. The results of the synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) prove the successful complexation of Fe-RA nanocomposite. Density functional theory (DFT) explains the efficient catalytic mechanism of its peroxide-like enzyme activity and the reaction principle with GSH.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of puerarin (Pue), a phytoestrogen, on the production performance, egg quality, endocrine hormones, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal morphology in aged laying hens. A total of 180 Hy-Line Brown hens aged 480 d were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 45 per group) and fed 0, 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg of Pue (Con, L-Pue, M-Pue, and H-Pue, respectively) during a 42-d experiment. Compared with the Con treatment, supplementation with H-Pue improved laying performance and egg quality by significantly increasing egg production, average egg weight, albumen height, yolk weight, and Haugh unit (P < 0.05) while decreasing the feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). A diet supplemented with H-Pue significantly decreasing serum total triglycerides, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase (P < 0.05), and significantly increasing serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and progesterone (P < 0.05). Antioxidant activity was improved by significantly increasing the activity of total antioxidant capacity, glutathione peroxidase and catalase but decreasing malondialdehyde levels in serum, jejunum, and ileum (P < 0.05), and superoxide dismutase activity exhibited a significantly increase in the jejunum and ileum (P < 0.05). Villus height and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (P < 0.05) were significantly increased in the jejunum and ileum. In the jejunal and ileal mucosa, the three treatment groups increased the mRNA expression levels of Claudin-1 and Claudin-2 compared with Con (P < 0.05), and no significant effect was observed on the expression of Occludin and ZO-1. The results showed that dietary supplementation with Pue could improve the laying performance, egg quality, antioxidant capacity, hormonal profile, and intestinal morphology of aged laying hens.

Microplastics (MPs) and heavy metals often coexist in soil, drawing significant attention to their interactions and the potential risks of biological accumulation in the soil-plant system. This paper comprehensively reviews the factors and biochemical mechanisms that influence the uptake of heavy metals by plants, in the existence of MPs, spanning from rhizospheric soil to the processes of root absorption and transport. The paper begins by introducing the origins and current situation of soil contamination with both heavy metals and MPs. It then discusses how MPs alter the physicochemical properties of rhizospheric soil, with a focus on parameters that affect the bioavailability of heavy metals such as aggregates, pH, Eh, and soil organic carbon (SOC). The paper also examines the effect of this pollution on soil organisms and plant growth and reviews the mechanisms by which MPs affect the bioavailability and movement-transformation of heavy metals in rhizospheric soil. This examination emphasizes the roles of rhizospheric microbes, soil fauna, and root physiological metabolism. Finally, the paper outlines the research progress on the mechanisms by which MPs influence the uptake and transport of heavy metals by plant roots. Through this comprehensive review, this paper provides aims to provide environmental managers with a detailed understanding of the potential impact of the coexistence of MPs and heavy metals on the soil-plant ecosystem.

To conveniently monitor bioactive cysteine (Cys) and Fe2+ in practice, a kind of poly-ß-cyclodextrin strengthen praseodymium oxide (Pr6O11) porous oxidase mimic (p-ß-CD@Pr6O11) was constructed by virtue of the strong coordination between nano Pr6O11 and poly-ß-cyclodextrin substrate. After its microstructure and physicochemical property were characterized in detail, it was noted that porous p-ß-CD@Pr6O11 exhibited excellent enzyme-like catalytic activity to accelerate the oxidation of 3,3',5,5,'-tetramethylbanzidine (TMB) and 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzo-thiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) ammonium salt (ABTS) with significant color-enhancement effect in the air. Based on the signal amplification, trace Cys could exclusively deteriorate the UV-vis absorbance at 653 nm of p-ß-CD@Pr6O11-TMB and Fe2+ alter the one at 729 nm of p-ß-CD@Pr6O11-ABTS with visual color changes. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed p-ß-CD@Pr6O11-TMB and p-ß-CD@Pr6O11-ABTS systems were successfully applied for dual-channel monitoring of Cys in Cys capsules and fetal bovine serum and Fe2+ in agricultural products with quite low detection limits, i.e., 7.8×10-9 mol·L-1 for Cys and 6.93×10-8 mol·L-1 (S/N=3) for Fe2+, respectively. The synergetic-enhancement detection mechanisms to Cys and Fe2+ were also proposed.

Disrupting effects of pollutants on symbiotic microbiota have been regarded as an important mechanism of host toxicity, with most current research focusing on the intestinal microbiota. In fact, the epidermal microbiota, which participates in the nutrient exchange between hosts and environments, could play a crucial role in host toxicity via community changes. To compare the contributions of intestinal and epidermal symbiotic microorganisms to host toxicity, this study designed single and combined scenarios of soil contamination [nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) and tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP)], and revealed the coupling mechanisms between intestinal/epidermal symbiotic bacterial communities and earthworm toxicological endpoints. Microbiome analysis showed that 15% of intestinal microbes were highly correlated with host endpoints, compared to 45% of epidermal microbes showing a similar correlation. Functional comparisons revealed that key species on the epidermis were mainly heterotrophic microbes with genetic abilities to utilize metal elements and carbohydrate nutrients. Further verifications demonstrated that when facing the co-contamination of nZVI and TCEP, certain symbiotic microorganisms became dominant and consumed zinc, copper, and manganese along with saccharides and amino acids, which may be responsible for the nutritional deficiencies in the host earthworms. The findings can enrich the understanding of the coupling relationship between symbiotic microorganisms and host toxicity, highlighting the importance of epidermal microorganisms in host resistance to environmental pollution.

BACKGROUND: A consensus has not been reached on the association between weight loss and survival outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF). This meta-analysis aimed to assess the association of weight loss with cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in patients with HF. METHODS: Two authors independently searched the articles indexed in the PubMed and Embase databases up to May 7, 2023. Post hoc analysis of randomized controlled trials or observational studies that reported the utility of weight loss in predicting cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in patients with HF were included. RESULTS: Thirteen studies reporting on 12 articles involving 26,164 patients with HF were included. A comparison of weight loss with stable weight showed that the pooled adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for all-cause mortality was 1.75 (95% confidence intervals [CI] 1.43-2.14). Subgroup analysis revealed that weight loss was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, irrespective of whether patients were overweight/obese (HR 1.76; 95% CI 1.41-2.20) or not (HR 1.90; 95% CI 1.14-3.14). The pooled adjusted HR of cardiovascular mortality was 1.64 (95% CI 1.18-2.28) for patients with weight loss compared to those without. CONCLUSIONS: Weight loss is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in patients with HF. Assessing weight changes can provide prognostic information for patients with HF.

The discovery of new superconductors based on topological insulators always captures special attention due to their unique structural and electronic properties. High pressure is an effective way to regulate the lattice as well as electronic states in the topological insulators, thus altering their electronic properties. Herein, we report the structural and electrical transport properties of the topological insulator GeBi2Te4by using high-pressure techniques. The synchrotron x-ray diffraction revealed that GeBi2Te4underwent two structural phase transitions fromR-3m(phase I) toC2/m(phase II) and then intoIm-3m(phase III). Superconductivity was observed at 6.6 GPa to be associated with the first structural phase transition. The superconducting transition temperatureTcreached a maximum value of 8.4 K, accompanied by theRHsign changing from negative to positive at 14.6 GPa, then gradually decreased with increasing pressure in phase III, showing a dome-shaped phase diagram. The present results provide a platform for understanding the interplay between the crystal structure and superconductivity by the regulation of pressure in the topological insulator materials.

Annular pool fires, frequently happened in chemical industries, have a significant influence on environmental pollution. Air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and soil contamination are general ways of environmental hazards caused by the annular pool fires. This study built upon our previous study (Environ. Sci. Pollut. Res., 2023, 30(21): 59781-59792.), and extended to investigate the combustion and fire plume flow behaviors of annular pool fires, both with and without air entrainment through the hollow center of the annular pool. Results show that when there is no air entrainment through the hollow center, the low combustion intensity area at the plume's central axis gradually extends while the high combustion intensity area concentrates at higher places and the flame height increased by nearly 40% from a solid pool (Din/Dout = 0) to the annular pool (Din/Dout = 0.80). Additionally, the area with high combustion intensity is more concentrated at a higher position. The combustion of annular pool fires was found to be dominated by non-premixed diffusion combustion. The center of the annular pool fires is dominated by air prior to flame merging and by fuel vapor after the merging occurs. For annular pool fires with air entrainment through the center of the pool, the combustion intensity increases as Din/Dout at the plume base increases. And, the flame height decreased by nearly 25% as Din/Dout increases. Flame burning occurs both on the outside and inside of the plume, exhibiting a "double layer" combustion characteristic. It reveals that the combustion of the fire plume transitions to premixed diffusion combustion. The center of the annular pool fire is predominantly composed of air. Understanding and controlling annular pool fires can lead to new methods for remediating fuel spills, reducing pollution from combustion, and advancing research in fluid mechanics.

The homeostatic regulation of serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT) activity in yeast involves N-terminal phosphorylation of Orm proteins, while higher eukaryotes lack these phosphorylation sites. Although recent studies have indicated a conserved ceramide-mediated feedback inhibition of the SPT-ORM/ORMDL complex in higher eukaryotes, its conservation and relationship with phosphorylation regulation in yeast remain unclear. Here, we determine the structure of the yeast SPT-Orm2 complex in a dephosphomimetic state and identify an evolutionarily conserved ceramide-sensing site. Ceramide stabilizes the dephosphomimetic Orm2 in an inhibitory conformation, facilitated by an intramolecular ß-sheet between the N- and C-terminal segments of Orm2. Moreover, we find that a phosphomimetic mutant of Orm2, positioned adjacent to its intramolecular ß-sheet, destabilizes the inhibitory conformation of Orm2. Taken together, our findings suggest that both Orm dephosphorylation and ceramide binding are crucial for suppressing SPT activity in yeast. This highlights a distinctive regulatory mechanism in yeast involving the collaborative actions of phosphorylation and ceramide.

With the rise in global plastic production and agricultural demand, the released microplastics (MPs) have increasingly influenced the elemental cycles of soils, leading to notable effects on greenhouse gas emissions. Despite initial research, there remains a gap in establishing a detailed modeling approach that comprehensively explores the impacts of MPs on GHG emissions. Herein, we utilized literature mining to assemble a comprehensive dataset examining the interplays between MPs and emissions of CO2, CH4, and N2O. Five automated machine learning frameworks were employed for predictive modeling. The GAMA framework was particularly effective in predicting CO2 (Q2 = 0.946) and CH4 (Q2 = 0.991) emissions. The Autogluon framework provided the most accurate prediction for N2O emission, though it exhibited signs of overfitting. Interpretability analysis indicated that the type of MPs significantly influenced CO2 emission. Degradable MPs (i.e., polyamide) inherently led to elevated CO2 emission, and the environmental aging further exacerbated this effect. Although both linear and nonlinear correlations between MPs and CH4 emission were not identified, the incorporation of specific MPs that elevate soil pH, augment soil water retention, and cultivate anaerobic conditions may potentially elevate soil CH4 emission. This research underscores the profound influence of MPs on soil GHG emissions, providing vital insights for shaping agricultural policies and soil management practices in the context of escalating plastic use.
