RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To explore the perceptions and experience of oral health management among rural older people in China. METHODS: Qualitative methodologies were used in this study. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted. Thirteen older adults in rural areas were purposively sampled at two metropolitan hospitals in Hunan, China. The data were transcribed and thematically analyzed, and MAXQDA software was used to assist with coding. RESULTS: Three overarching major themes and ten subthemes capturing the perceptions and experience of oral health management among rural older people were identified. Three themes emerged from the thematic analysis: oral health cognitive bias, poor management behaviors, and limited oral health services. Oral health management as a whole is negative, oral health behaviors are poor, oral health service utilization is limited. CONCLUSIONS: Based on these findings, there is great scope here for improving the current status of oral health for rural older people around awareness, behavior, and access. Oral health education, improved oral health services and primary oral health promotion are warranted.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Oral mucositis (OM) is a common and severe side effect of radiotherapy in head and neck cancer (HNC). The study aimed to investigate the longitudinal changes in OM and its influencing factors in patients with HNC during radiotherapy. METHODS: This was a retrospective longitudinal observational study. From July 2022 to March 2023, patients with HNC undergoing radiation therapy were enrolled. OM, oral hygiene, oral infections, oral pain, feeding route, and laboratory indicators were measured at 7 times. The influencing factors of OM were analyzed using generalized estimation equations (GEEs). RESULTS: A total of 160 patients were included in this study. The prevalence of severe OM at T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, and T6 was 0, 0, 2.5%, 9.4%, 26.9%, 24.4%, and 26.9%, respectively. The prevalence of grade 1-2 OM at T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, and T6 was 0, 16.3%, 53.1%, 65.1%, 61.9%, 70.7%, and 71.3%, respectively. Duration of diagnosis, clinical stage, N stage, M stage, surgery, diabetes, radiotherapy dose, oral hygiene, oral infection, oral pain, feeding route, and lymphocyte impacted OM significantly in the GEEs multivariate model. CONCLUSIONS: OM occurs in almost all patients with HNC who undergo radiotherapy. Changes in the severity of OM are a dynamic process, with the severity increasing with the cumulative radiotherapy dose. Specialist oral evaluation and oral care are needed to alleviate the severity of OM in HNC patients.

RESUMO

Based on the use of CQDs as fluorescent probe and covalent coupling method to detect biological molecules with amino groups, to deeply analysis and detect the metabolism of Microcystis aeruginosa. The metabolic changes of carboxyl biomolecules in Microcystis aeruginosa were analyzed by covalent coupling method, including GSH, phycocyanin and SOD enzyme. The changes of GSH content and its correlation between phycocyanin, SOD were analyzed. The content of phycocyanin and SOD reached the maximum on the 65th day, and GSH was more sensitive to the growth and metabolism of microalgae. GSH plays an important role in reducing the external oxidative damage of microalgae cells. The synthesis of glutathione (GSH), GSH/GSSG mutual transformation, the production of phytochelating peptide (PC), the ASA-GSH cycle, and other physiological processes are interconnected. These interactions are crucial for preserving the antioxidant properties of microalgae and regulating redox-sensitive signal transduction.

RESUMO

Purpose: Oral health plays an important role in overall health. But there is scarce information available on oral health behavior and oral health service utilization among cancer patients. This study aimed to evaluate oral health behavior and oral health service utilization among different population groups of cancer patients in China. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study in three tertiary hospitals was conducted to explore the oral health behaviors and oral health service utilization of 162 cancer patients in China. Results: We investigated a total of 162 cancer patients, 81 from urban and rural areas, respectively. The participant's ages ranged from 18 and 82 years, mean age was 44.62 years (SD = 15.72). Overall, cancer patients have poor oral health behaviors and limited oral health service utilization. There were statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) between urban and rural cancer patients in terms of oral health behaviors, including brushing methods, the use of fluoride toothpaste, the use of dental floss, dental caries, and bleeding gums while brushing teeth. As for oral health service utilization, there were significant differences (p < 0.05) between urban and rural cancer patients on regular dental cleaning, the reasons for visiting a dental clinic, and whether they took the initiative to learn about oral health. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that cancer patients had poor oral health behaviors and limited oral health service utilization, and rural patients perform poorer than their urban counterparts. Oral health education should be provided to cancer patients to improve their oral health behaviors and oral health service utilization.

RESUMO

Borophene has drawn tremendous attention in the past decade for a wide range of potential applications owing to its unique structural, optical, and electronic properties. However, applications of borophene toward next-generation nanodevices are mostly theoretical predictions, while experimental realization is still lacking due to rapid oxidation of intrinsic borophene in an air environment. Here, we have successfully prepared structurally stable and transferrable few-layer ß12-borophane on copper foils by a typical two-zone chemical vapor deposition method, where bis(triphenylphosphine)copper tetrahydroborate was used as the boron source in a hydrogen-rich atmosphere to stabilize its structure through hydrogenation. The crystal structure of the as-prepared ß12-borophane is in good agreement with previous reports. A fabricated photodetector based on ß12-borophane-silicon (n-type) Schottky junction shows good photoelectric responses to light excitations in a wide wavelength range from 365 to 850 nm. Especially, the photodetector exhibits a good photoresponsivity of around 0.48 A W-1, a high specific detectivity of 4.39 × 1011 jones, a high external quantum efficiency of 162%, and short response and recovery times of 115 and 121 ms under an ultraviolet light with the wavelength of 365 nm at a reverse bias of 5 V. The results show great potential applications of borophane in next-generation nanophotonic and nanoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Multilayer borophene was predicted to have a similar semiconductor property to its monolayer arise from the weak van der Waals interactions between the layers. Besides, multilayer borophene has a higher carrier mobility than monolayer ones, so it is placed great hopes in applications of photoelectric and photovoltaic devices. However, its preparation and application in experiments of multilayer borophene are still lacking. Here, multilayerα'-4H-borophene was synthesized on semiconductingn-type GaAs substrates using NaBH4source as precursor and hydrogen as the carrier gas under controlled temperature and pressure conditions. The experimental results of the borophene are in good agreement with those of its theoretical prediction. The borophene is a semiconductor with a bandgap of 2.48 eV. To demonstrate the device application potential of the borophene, a near-infrared photodetector composed ofp-type borophene andn-type GaAs was fabricated. The photodetector shows a high photoresponsivity of 0.31 mA·W-1, a high specific detectivity of108Jones, and a fast response or recovery speed of 117 or 109 ms under the irradiation with the wavelength of 940 nm at zero bias. The results prove that theα'-4H-borophene/GaAs photodetector can show high sensitivity and zero consumption, which is of great value in meeting the appeal of sustainable development of society.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Oral health is important for general health; nurses are expected to possess good oral health awareness and work together for public oral health promotion. The purpose of this study is to investigate oral health literacy (OHL)and oral health behaviors of nurses, and explore the association between oral health literacy with demographic variables and oral health behaviors. METHODS: A cross-sectional study in a tertiary hospital was conducted using a short-form Health Literacy in Dentistry-14 (HeLD-14) and a 16-items oral health behaviors questionnaire. Information about the subjects' demographic details including age, gender, place of residence, marital status, marital status, education level, monthly household income, working experience, etc. were collected. Independent sample t- test, One- way ANOVA, and multivariable regression were used to identify the association of oral health literacy with demographic variables and oral health behaviors. RESULTS: A total number of 317 nursing nurses participated in the survey, with a mean OHL score of 36.72, SD10.531, 21.8% were categorized as good, 34.1% medium and 44.2% poor oral health literacy; monthly household income, self-rated oral health, brushing time, use of fluoride toothpaste, and regular oral examination were signficantly associated with OHL scores. CONCLUSION: The overall oral health literacy of the nurse population is at a moderate to low level. These findings may help to map and design an oral health education intervention to improve oral health literacy amongst nurses, especially nurses with low monthly household income and poor self-assessed oral health status. Nursing administrators and nursing educators should pay more attention to the oral health status of the nurse population.

RESUMO

Background and Purpose: Oral health plays an important role in overall health. But little is known about the problems with oral health behaviors and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among dental patients in China. This study aimed to investigate oral health behaviors and OHRQoL, as well as to examine the effects of oral health behaviors and associated factors on OHRQoL among dental patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2022 to July 2022 in the Department of Stomatology of the First Mobile General Hospital of Armed Police, Hebei, China. The five-item short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5) was used to evaluate OHRQoL. Oral health behaviors were assessed by a 16-items oral health behavior questionnaire, and socio-demographic data were collected by a socio-demographic questionnaire. The t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to investigate the associations between the study variables. Results: 186 participants were included in the study. The average age of the participants was 24.62 years (SD = 10.67). The mean OHIP-5 score was 4.31 (SD =3.35). Oral health-related quality of life differed significantly by smoking history, history of alcohol consumption, work status, economic pressure, self-rated oral health status, daily brushing frequency, dental caries condition, and whether they take the initiative to learn about oral health. Multivariate analysis found that the self-rated oral health status and work status were significantly associated with the OHIP scores. The retired people and those with poor self-rated oral health displayed poor OHRQoL. Conclusion: In general, dental patients' oral health needs to be improved, the majority of patients reported practicing poor oral health behaviors, among which the retired population and hose with poor self-rated oral health showed poor OHRQoL. OHRQoL in dental patients is a complex issue associated with social and behavioral factors.

RESUMO

Direct asymmetric reductive amination is one of the most efficient methods for the construction of chiral amines, in which the scope of the applicable amine coupling partners remains a significant challenge. In this study we describe primary alkyl amines effectively serve as the N-sources in direct asymmetric reductive amination catalyzed by the iridium precursor and sterically tunable chiral phosphoramidite ligands. The density functional theory studies of the reaction mechanism imply the alkyl amine substrates serve as a ligand of iridium strengthened by a (N)H-O(P) hydrogen-bonding attraction, and the hydride addition occurs via an outer-sphere transition state, in which the Cl-H H-bonding plays an important role. Through this concise procedure, cinacalcet, tecalcet, fendiline and many other related chiral amines have been synthesized in one single step with high yields and excellent enantioselectivity.

RESUMO

Borophene has been predicted to have outstanding catalytic activity owing to its extreme electron deficiency and abundant active sites. However, no experimental results have been still reported for borophene application in high-efficiency catalysis. Here, a borophene nanosheet was prepared on a carbon cloth surface via chemical vapor deposition. The boron source is sodium borohydride and the carrier gas is hydrogen gas. The crystal structure of the borophene nanosheet highly matches that of a theoretical α'-borophene nanosheet. Borophene shows good electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) ability with a 69 mV/dec Tafel slope and good cycling stability in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution. The enhanced performance is ascribed to an abundant electrocatalytic active area and low resistance of charge transfer, which results from its rich surface active sites. The improvement has been revealed by first-principles calculations, which is originated from their inherent metallicity and abundant electrocatalytic active sites on the nanosheets' surface. Borophene's extraordinarily high activity and stability give rise to extensive investigation of the application of borophene in high-efficiency energy applications such as catalysts and batteries.

RESUMO

Borophene has attracted enormous attention because of its rich and unique structural and electronic properties for promising pratical applications. Although borophene sheets have been realized on different substrates in recent experiments, there are very few reports on the device application of borophene. Recently, borophene can be grown on some functional substrates, which lays a good foundation for its potential applications. Here, we report that hydrogenated borophene can be grown on the fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrate. The phase of the obtained borophene is well consistent with the predicted semiconductingδ5-boron sheet. Furthermore, a vertical heterojunction ultraviolet detector based p-borophene/n-zinc oxide was fabricated. The photoresponsivity of the detector is 1.02 × 10-1A W-1, the specific detection rate was 1.43 × 109Jones and the response speed wasτres = 2.8 s,τrec = 3.2 s at the reversed bias of -5 V under the light excitation of 365 nm. This work will lay a foundation for further study on the attractive properties and applications of borophene in new optoelectronic devices and integrated circuits.

RESUMO

The emergence of borophene has triggered soaring interest in the investigation of its superior structural anisotropy, a novel photoelectronic property for diverse potential applications. However, the structural instability and need of a metal substrate for depositing borophene restrict its large-scale applications toward high-performance electronic and optoelectric devices. van der Waals epitaxy is regarded as an efficient technique for growing superb two-dimensional materials onto extensive functional substrates, but the preparation of stable and controllable borophene on nonmetallic substrates is still not reported. Here, we demonstrate that borophene films can be synthesized onto a mica substrate by van der Waals epitaxy, where hydrogen and NaBH4 are respectively used as the carrier gas and the boron source. The lattice structure of the as-synthesized borophene coincides with the predicted α'-boron sheet. The borophene-based photodetector shows an excellent photoresponsivity of 1.04 A W-1 and a specific detectivity of 1.27 × 1011 Jones at a reversed bias of 4 V under illumination of a 625 nm light-emitting diode, which are remarkably superior to those of reported boron nanosheets. This work facilitates further studies of borophene toward its attractive properties and applications in novel optoelectronic devices and integrated circuits.

RESUMO

Cysteine (Cys) is a biological thiol. Aberrant changes in thiol levels are associated with the development and pathogenesis of various diseases, including liver damage, Alzheimer's disease, weakness, and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, thiol detection in biological samples has great importance in health monitoring and disease prediction. In this study, we developed a ratiometric fluorescence nanosensor combined with carbon dots (CDs)-doped mesoporous silica and fluorescein-based fluorescent probes loaded in pores for Cys detection. The nanosensor emitted fluorescence at 450 nm upon excitation at 370 nm. In the presence of Cys, the fluorescence emission from the probe could be selectively enhanced, whereas that from CDs could be changed. Thus, a ratiometric fluorescent sensor was developed. This sensor can eliminate the potential influence of background fluorescence and other analyte-independent external environmental factors. The nanosensor was utilized to monitor Cys levels in human serum, and satisfactory results were obtained. Results indicated that the nanosensor can be utilized as an excellent fluorescent nanocomposite material in practical biological applications.

RESUMO

Borophene sheets have been synthesized in recent experiments, but the metallic nature and structural instability of the sheets seriously prevent emerging applications. Hydrogenated borophene has been predicted as an ideal material for nanoelectronic applications due to its high stability as well as excellent electronic and mechanical properties. However, the fabrication of hydrogenated borophene is still a great challenge. Here, we demonstrate that hydrogenated borophenes in large quantities can be prepared without any metal substrates by a stepwise in-situ thermal decomposition of sodium borohydride under hydrogen as the carrier gas. The borophenes with good crystallinity exhibit superior stability in strong acid or base solvents. The structure of the grown borophene is in good agreement with the predicted semiconducting α-boron sheet. A fabricated borophene-based memory device shows a high ON/OFF-current ratio of 3×103 and a low operating voltage of less than 0.35 V as well as good stability.

RESUMO

The secondary amine participating asymmetric reductive amination remains an unsolved problem in organic synthesis. Here we show for the first time that secondary amines are capable of effectively serving as N-sources in direct asymmetric reductive amination to afford corresponding tertiary chiral amines with the help of a selected additive set under mild conditions (0-25 °C). The applied chiral phosphoramidite ligands are readily prepared from BINOL and easily modified. Compared with common tertiary chiral amine synthetic methods, this procedure is much more concise and scalable, as exemplified by the facile synthesis of rivastigmine and N-methyl-1-phenylethanamine.

RESUMO

Fluorescence molecular tomography (FMT) is an important in vivo molecular imaging technique and has been widely studied in preclinical research. Many methods perform well in the reconstruction of a single fluorescent target but may fail in reconstructing multiple targets because of the severe ill-posedness of the FMT inverse problem. In this paper the original synchronization-inspired clustering algorithm (OSC) is introduced into FMT for resolving multiple targets from the reconstruction result. Based on OSC, a synchronization-based clustering algorithm for FMT (SC-FMT) is developed to further improve location accuracy. Both algorithms utilize the minimum spanning tree to automatically identify the number of the reconstructed targets without prior information and human intervention. A serial of numerical simulation results demonstrates that SC-FMT and OSC can resolve multiple targets robustly and automatically, which also shows the potential of the proposed postprocessing algorithms in FMT reconstruction.

RESUMO

In this article, we for the first time present an original and ultrasensitive assay to detect Ag+ ions, with which the aggregation of the given peptide-modified gold nanoparticles (peptide-AuNPs) can be triggered by the interaction between peptides and Ag+. The approach has rarely been used in the colorimetric determination of Ag+, because the mechanism of the above-mentioned interaction has not been studied through. In our assay, the principle of this interaction was investigated. Moreover, we applied it in the design of an extremely sensitive sensor for Ag+ detection with great selectivity. It is the Ag+-induced folding structure of the peptides that leads to the aggregation of peptide-AuNPs. The aggregation involves the formation of 4-coordinated complexes between Ag+ and peptides via bonding with the carbonyl oxygen and the nitrogen of the α-amino group in the peptides. The result shows that Ag+ ions can be selectively detected as low as 7.4nM with a linear range of 10-1000nM. Compared with other approaches, the proposed approach demonstrates superior simplicity, sensitivity, stability and time-saving. Furthermore, the biosensor excels in the practical application in water samples (e.g., lake, tap and drinking water) owing to its non-interference and on-site rapid determination.

RESUMO

Herein, we presented a novel logic gate based on an INHIBITION gate that performs parallel readouts. Logic gates performing INHIBITION and YES/OR were constructed using surface-enhanced Raman scattering as optical outputs for the first time. The strategy allowed for simultaneous reading of outputs in one tube. The applicability of this strategy has been successfully exemplified in the construction of half-adder using the two-output logic gates as reporting gates. This reporting strategy provides additional design flexibility for dynamic DNA devices.
