RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have indicated that microRNA-15a (miR-15a) is dysregulated in breast cancer (BC). We aimed to evaluate the expression of miR-15a in BC tissues and corresponding para-carcinoma tissues. We also focused on effects of miR-15a on cellular behavior of MDA-MB-231 and expression of its target gene synuclein-γ (SNCG). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The expression levels of miR-15a were analysed in BC formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues by microarray and quantitative real-time PCR. CCK-8 assays, cell cycle and apoptosis assays were used to explore the potential functions of miR-15a in MDA-MB-231 human BC cells. A luciferase reporter assay confirmed direct targets. RESULTS: Downregulation of miR-15a was detected in most primary BCs. Ectopic expression of miR-15a promoted proliferation and suppressed apoptosis in vivo. Further studies indicated that miR-15a may directly interact with the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of SNCG mRNA, downregulating its mRNA and protein expression levels. SNCG expression was negatively correlated with miR-15a expression. CONCLUSIONS: MiR-15a has a critical role in mediating cell cycle arrest and promoting cell apoptosis of BC, probably by directly targeting SNCG. Thus, it may be involved in development and progression of BC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the serum levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol in Kazaks and Mongolians from Xinjiang pastoral area. METHODS: A randomized cluster sampling was performed to obtain a representative sample of population in Xinjiang Hefeng pastoral area. Blood was taken from 632 individuals aged 30 and older for measurements of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) by automatic biochemical analyzer. The serum levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was calculated according to the formula. RESULTS: The mean serum level of LDL-C was significantly higher in Kazaks [(3.68 +/- 1.16) mmol/L] than that in Mongolians [(3.29 +/- 1.23) mmol/L, P < 0.001]. The serum levels of LDL-C in Kazaks were significantly associated with mean artery pressure. The serum levels of LDL-C in Mongolians were significantly associated with body mass index. CONCLUSION: The serum levels of LDL-C were higher in Kazaks compared that in Mongolians in Xinjiang pastoral area.

RESUMO

In the title compound, [Zn(C(14)H(8)N(2)O(6))(H(2)O)(4)](n), the 2,2'-dihydr-oxy-5,5'-diazenediyldibenzoate ligand acts as a carboxyl-ate bridge, leading to the formation of a polymeric chain running along the [10] direction. The Zn(II) atom is hexa-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry by six O atoms [Zn-O = 2.055 (4)-2.132 (3) Å] from two carboxylate ligands and four water mol-ecules. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and two π-π inter-actions. The centroid-centroid distances are 3.803 (16) and 3.804 (17) Å.
