RESUMO

The multiple mortise-and-tenon joint parts are the core factors to provide the structural stability and diversity of Chinese Luban locks, however, constructing such structures is very challenging. Herein, single crystals of covalent organic nanoribbon (named CityU-27) are prepared through the assembly of hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP), 4,4'-Vinylenedipyridine (BYE), and phenylboronic acid (BA) together via dative boron←nitrogen (B←N) bonds. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that CityU-27 has covalent organic nanoribbon, where each nanoribbon forms multiple and tight π-π interactions with four neighboring others to generate a Luban lock-like configuration. CityU-27 has been demonstrated as an efficient photocatalyst in a one-pot tandem reaction of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and semi-hydrogenation reaction of alkynes in series to produce olefins without any additional photosensitizers and co-catalysts (metal-free).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Currently, mediastinoscopy-assisted esophagectomy (MAE) and thoracoscope-assisted esophagectomy (TAE) represent two prevalent forms of minimally invasive esophagectomy extensively employed in the management of esophageal cancer (EC). The aim of this meta-analysis is to assess and compare these two surgical approaches concerning perioperative outcomes and long-term survival, offering valuable insights for refining surgical strategies and enhancing patient outcomes in this field. METHODS: Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, and CNKI databases until March 1, 2024, for studies comparing MAE and TAE. Outcomes of interest included perioperative outcomes (intraoperative outcomes, postoperative recovery, postoperative complications) and survival rates. Statistical analyses were performed using RevMan 5.4, with heterogeneity dictating the use of fixed or random-effects models. RESULTS: Totally 21 relevant studies were finally included. MAE was associated with significantly shorter operation times ((MD=-59.58 min, 95% CI: -82.90, -36.26) and less intraoperative blood loss (MD=-68.34 mL, 95% CI: -130.45, -6.23). However, MAE resulted in fewer lymph nodes being dissected (MD=-3.50, 95% CI: -6.23, -0.78). Postoperative recovery was enhanced following MAE, as evidenced by reduced hospital stays and tube times. MAE significantly reduced pulmonary complications (OR=0.59, 95% CI: 0.44, 0.81) but increased the incidence of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (OR=1.84, 95% CI: 1.30, 2.60). No significant differences were observed in anastomotic leakage, chylothorax, cardiac complications, wound infections, and gastric retention between MAE and TAE. The long-term survival outcomes showed no statistical difference (HR=1.05, 95% CI: 0.71-1.54). CONCLUSIONS: MAE offers advantages in reducing operation time, blood loss, and specific postoperative complications, particularly pulmonary complications, with a shorter recovery period compared to TAE. However, it poses a higher risk of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury and results in fewer lymph nodes being dissected. No difference in long-term survival was observed, indicating that both techniques have distinct benefits and limitations. These findings underscore the need for personalized surgical approaches in EC treatment, considering individual patient characteristics and tumor specifics.

RESUMO

Coal is one of the primary energy sources in China and is widely used for electricity generation. Crops growing in overlapped areas of farmland and coal resources (OAFCR) suffer from coal fly ash stress, especially during stem elongation, which is a key stage that impacts wheat yield and is sensitive to environmental stress. As a primary food crop of China, wheat is essential for food security. However, the characteristics of wheat under the combined stress of fly ash and various heavy metals have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, we explored the response of stem elongation in wheat to different levels of coal fly ash stress and determined the content of heavy metals (HMs) in wheat leaves. We found that with an increase in fly ash content, the Cu content in the shoots increased, while that in the roots decreased. Coal fly ash exposure reduced the proportions of Pb and Zn in the cytoderm, and the proportion of Cu in the soluble constituents decreased from 58.3% to 45.7%. Total chlorophyll, chlorophyll a, and chlorophyll b levels decreased significantly, whereas peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) activities generally increased with increasing fly ash dose. Meanwhile, chloroplasts, mitochondria, and their internal structures were damaged, and the cell structures of leaves, such as the internal membrane structure, were damaged.

RESUMO

A simple fluorescent "on-off" system that can be utilized for the selective identification and determination of paraquat (PQ) is presented herein. 1H NMR spectroscopic data indicated that in aqueous solution the alkaloid palmatine can be partially encapsulated within the cucurbit[7]uril (Q[7]) cavity, whereby a stable 1 : 1 host-guest inclusion complex is formed. Other characterization techniques including mass spectrometry, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy also provided further evidence, and the host-guest inclusion complex was found to exhibit reasonable fluorescence intensity. It is noteworthy that the addition of PQ resulted in quenching the fluorescence of the host-guest inclusion complex, whereas the presence of 12 other pesticides did not significantly affect the fluorescence intensity. Given the linear relationship between the intensity of the fluorescence and the PQ concentration, the PQ concentration in aqueous solution was easily detected. Thus, a new method for identifying and determining the fluorescence quenching of PQ has been developed in this work.

RESUMO

The simultaneous discrimination and detection of multiple anions in an aqueous solution has been a major challenge due to their structural similarity and low charge radii. In this study, we have constructed a supramolecular fluorescence sensor array based on three host-guest complexes to distinguish five anions (F-, Cl-, Br-, I-, and ClO-) in an aqueous solution using anionic-induced fluorescence quenching combined with linear discriminant analysis. Due to the different affinities of the three host-guest complexes for each anion the anion quenching efficiency for each host-guest complex was likewise different, and the five anions were well recognized. The fluorescence sensor array not only distinguished anions at different concentrations (0.5, 10, and 50 µM) with 100% accuracy but also showed good linearity within a certain concentration range. The limit of detection (LOD) was < 0.5 µM. Our interference study showed that the developed sensor array had good anti-interference ability. The practicability of the developed sensor array was also verified by the identification and differentiation of toothpaste brands with different fluoride content and the prediction of the iodine concentration in urine combined with machine learning.

RESUMO

The coordination of development efforts and ecological conservation in China's border regions is a significant challenge due to the overlap of biodiversity hotspots, ecologically fragile zones, and impoverished areas. Achieving the harmonious integration of ecological preservation and economic development relies on the fundamental assessment of ecological security (ES). However, comprehensive assessments of ES in border regions remain limited. This study introduces a new index, the multivariate ecological security index (MESI), which integrates ecosystem vigor, organization, elasticity, services and risk. Here, the MESI was utilized to assess the temporal and spatial changes in ES and its associated impact factors in the China-Myanmar border region (CMBR) from 2000 to 2020. The MESI provides a clear representation of the actual ES status in the CMBR, exhibiting a significant correlation with the eco-environmental quality index (EEQI; p < 0.01). The ES status exhibited notable spatial heterogeneity in the CMBR, consisting primarily of both relatively safe and safe levels, which accounted for approximately 85% of the total area. From 2000 to 2020, the CMBR experienced a gradual improvement in ES status, with the area experiencing an increase in the ES level accounting for 23.41% of the total area, which exceeded the proportion of the area experiencing a decrease in the ES level (4.71%). The combined impact of multiple factors exerted a greater influence on ES than did individual factors alone. Notably, human factors increasingly influenced the ES status during the study period. The results of this study provide valuable insights for ecological preservation and sustainable management in the CMBR, and the MESI can be extended to assess the ES of other regions.

RESUMO

Vacuum foam drying (VFD) has been shown to improve the thermostability and long-term shelf life of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV). This study optimized the VFD process to improve the shelf life of NDV at laboratory-scale and then tested the optimized conditions at pilot-scale. The optimal NDV to T5 formulation ratio was determined to be 1:1 or 3:2. Using the 1:1 virus to formulation ratio, the optimal filling volumes were determined to be 13-17% of the vial capacity. The optimized VFD process conditions were determined to be at a shelf temperature of 25℃ with a minimum overall drying time of 44 h. The vaccine samples prepared using these optimized conditions at laboratory-scale exhibited virus titer losses of ≤ 1.0 log10 with residual moisture content (RMC) below 3%. Furthermore, these samples were transported for 97 days around China at ambient temperature without significant titer loss, thus demonstrating the thermostability of the NDV-VFD vaccine. Pilot-scale testing of the NDV-VFD vaccine at optimized conditions showed promising results for up-scaling the process as the RMC was below 3%. However, the virus titer loss was slightly above 1.0 log10 (approximately 1.1 log10). Therefore, the NDV-VFD process requires further optimization at pilot scale to obtain a titer loss of ≤ 1.0 log10. Results from this study provide important guidance for possible industrialization of NDV-VFD vaccine in the future. KEY POINTS: • The process optimization and scale-up test of thermostable NDV vaccine prepared through VFD is reported for the first time in this study. • The live attenuated NDV-VFD vaccine maintained thermostability for 97 days during long distance transportation in summer without cold chain conditions. • The optimized NDV-VFD vaccine preparations evaluated at pilot-scale maintained acceptable levels of infectivity after preservation at 37℃ for 90 days, which demonstrated the feasibility of the vaccine for industrialization.

RESUMO

The prevalence of icing in nature has become a significant threat to human work and life, prompting the development of more energy-efficient active/passive combination anti-icing/deicing technologies. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the poor durability of superhydrophobic surfaces, lubricated surfaces inspired by nepenthes have been preferred. In this study, a paraffin and silicone oil-infused photothermal foam (PSIPF) with excellent overall performance was prepared using polypyrrole (PPy) as a photothermal conversion material, a mixture of silicone oil and paraffin as a lubricating fluid, and melamine foam (MF) as a carrier. The surface adhesive strength is less than 20 kPa at -20 °C, the melting time is only 1018 s at an irradiance of 200 W/m2 and -20 °C (0.2 sun), and surface droplets do not freeze within 1 h at -10 °C. Furthermore, the surface exhibits excellent mechanical durability and stability, maintaining optimal lubrication properties following repeated cycles of icing/deicing, water rinsing, and immersion for 2 days in acid and alkaline conditions. This photothermal lubricated surface with excellent anti-icing/deicing properties at low temperatures and in weak-light environments provides a wider range of applications for equipment at high latitudes and high altitudes.

RESUMO

Pain is a common public health problem and remains as an unmet medical need. Currently available analgesics usually have limited efficacy or are accompanied by many adverse side effects. To achieve satisfactory pain relief by multimodal analgesia, new combinations of nefopam and gabapentinoids (pregabalin/gabapentin) were designed and assessed in inflammatory, osteoarthritis and neuropathic pain. Isobolographic analysis was performed to analyze the interactions between nefopam and gabapentinoids in carrageenan-induced inflammatory pain, mono-iodoacetate-induced osteoarthritis pain and paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathic pain in mice. The anti-inflammatory effect and motor performance of monotherapy or their combinations were evaluated in the carrageenan-induced inflammatory responses and rotarod test, respectively. Nefopam (1, 3, 5, 10, 30 mg/kg, p.o.), pregabalin (3, 6, 12, 24 mg/kg, p.o.) or gabapentin (25, 50, 75, 100 mg/kg, p.o.) dose-dependently reversed mechanical allodynia in three pain models. Isobolographic analysis indicated that the combinations of nefopam and gabapentinoids exerted synergistic anti-nociceptive effects in inflammatory, osteoarthritis, and neuropathic pain mouse models, as evidenced by the experimental ED50 (median effective dose) falling below the predicted additive line. Moreover, the combination of nefopam-pregabalin/gabapentin alleviated carrageenan-induced inflammation and edema, and also prevented gabapentinoids-related sedation or ataxia by lowering their effective doses. Collectively, the co-administration of nefopam and gabapentinoids showed synergistic analgesic effects and may result in improved therapeutic benefits for treating pain.

RESUMO

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) significantly predisposes individuals to diabetes and is a prognostic factor for the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of (-)-gallocatechin gallate (GCG) in alleviating signs of MetS-associated DN in db/db mice. We administered GCG and monitored its effects on several metabolic parameters, including food and water intake, urinary output, blood glucose levels, glucose and insulin homeostasis, lipid profiles, blood pressure, and renal function biomarkers. The main findings indicated that GCG intervention led to marked improvements in these metabolic indicators and renal function, signifying its potential in managing MetS and DN. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis revealed substantial modifications in gene expression, notably the downregulation of pro-inflammatory genes such as S100a8, S100a9, Cd44, Socs3, Mmp3, Mmp9, Nlrp3, IL-1ß, Osm, Ptgs2, and Lcn2 and the upregulation of the anti-oxidative gene Gstm3. These genetic alterations suggest significant effects on pathways related to inflammation and oxidative stress. In conclusion, GCG demonstrates therapeutic efficacy for MetS-associated DN, mitigating metabolic disturbances and enhancing renal health by modulating inflammatory and oxidative responses.

RESUMO

Hydrogen production technology has triggered a research boom in order to alleviate the problems of environmental pollution and the pressure on non-renewable energy sources. The key factor of this technology is the use of an efficient photocatalyst. g-C3N4 is a typical semiconductor photocatalytic material that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly and does not cause any serious harm to human beings. Therefore, it can be applied to drug degradation and the photocatalytic production of H2. Combined with ZnIn2S4, this semiconductor photocatalytic material, with a typical lamellar structure, has become one of the most promising catalysts for research due to its suitable bandgap structure and excellent photoelectric properties. In this study, 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composite photocatalytic materials were successfully prepared by compounding ZnIn2S4 and g-C3N4 semiconductor materials with good visible-light-trapping ability. Under visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the composites was significantly better than that of pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4. This is attributed to the formation of a heterojunction structure, which effectively inhibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers through the interfacial contact between the two semiconducting materials, and then improved the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thus enhancing the catalytic activity. In this study, pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4 were prepared using calcination and hydrothermal methods, and then, the composites were synthesized using ultrasonic and hydrothermal means. The differences in the structure, morphology, and hydrogen production performance of the materials before and after recombination were analyzed in detail using XRD, SEM, and FTIR characterization, which further verified that the 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composites possessed excellent photocatalytic activity and stability, providing new possibilities for the optimization and application of photocatalytic hydrogen production technology.

RESUMO

The form of soil nitrogen input significantly affects soil CO2 emission. As a new form of nitrogen input, biochar-loaded ammonia nitrogen not only reduces the input of chemical nitrogen fertilizer in farmland but also reduces the cost of environmental treatment. It is of great significance to promote the zero growth of national chemical fertilizer, the prevention and control of farmland non-point source pollution, and the realization of the national goal of "carbon peak" and "carbon neutralization." Through an indoor culture experiment, the effects of different nitrogen input forms on soil carbon emission, enzyme activity, and microbial community were studied through four treatments:no fertilization (CK), single application of chemical nitrogen fertilizer (CF), biochar combined application of chemical nitrogen fertilizer (BF), and biochar-loaded ammonia nitrogen (BN). The results showed that compared with that in CF, BF significantly increased cumulative carbon emissions (66.24 %), whereas BN had no significant difference. It is worth noting that the cumulative carbon emissions were significantly reduced by 35.28 % compared with that in BF and BN. Compared with those in CF and BF, the activities of ß-glucosidase, peroxidase, and polyphenol oxidase treated with BN significantly increased by 20.25 % and 5.20 %, respectively. Compared with that in CF, the BF treatment increased microbial community richness and community diversity, whereas the BN treatment decreased microbial community richness. Compared with that in BF, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria decreased by 11.16 %, and the relative abundance of Actinobacteria and Bacteroidota increased by 8.12 % and 5.83 %, respectively, in which xylosidase activity was the most important soil factor affecting microbial community structure. The relative abundance of Chloroflexi was significantly correlated with cellobiose hydrolase activity, and the relative abundance of Gemmatimonadetes was significantly correlated with ß-glucosidase activity. There was a very significant correlation between the relative abundance of Proteobacteria and cumulative carbon emissions. To summarize, compared with those under biochar combined with chemical nitrogen fertilizer, biochar loaded with ammonia nitrogen significantly reduced cumulative carbon emissions, and its emission reduction effect was better. The results of this study will be beneficial to the landing of the national "double carbon strategy," the healthy development of the biological natural gas industry, the construction of the national green cultivation circular agriculture system, and the realization of the national zero growth strategy of chemical fertilizer.

RESUMO

Objective: To review our single-institution experience in the surgical management of foramen magnum tumors via a far-lateral approach using an oblique straight incision. Methods: From October 2023 to January 2024, four cases of tumors in the foramen magnum area treated at the Capital Medical University-affiliated XuanWu hospital neurosurgery department were involved in this study. All cases were managed with a far-lateral approach using an oblique straight incision. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and imaging data, as well as the surgical strategies employed. Results: Three cases of foramen magnum meningiomas and one case of glioma of the ventral medulla. All cases underwent a far-lateral approach using an oblique straight incision; all cases had a gross total resection, and the wounds healed well without cerebral fluid leakage or scalp hydrops. Except for one case of right foramen magnum meningioma, which had dysphagia and pneumothorax, the other cases were without any postoperative complications. Conclusion: A far-lateral approach using an oblique straight incision can preserve muscle integrity and minimize subcutaneous exposure, allowing for complete anatomical reduction of muscles. This craniectomy method is simple and replicable, making it worthy of further clinical practice.

RESUMO

AIM: To introduce the macular hole (MH) hydromassage technique as a potentially beneficial approach for the treatment of large or persistent MH. METHODS: This retrospective observational case series comprised 16 consecutive patients (17 eyes) diagnosed with MH. Inclusion criteria involved a hole aperture diameter larger than 600 µm or the presence of an unclosed MH larger than 600 µm following the previous vitrectomy. Standard MH repair procedures were administered in all cases, involving the manipulation and aspiration of the hole margin through the application of water flow with a soft-tip flute needle. A comprehensive assessment was conducted for each case before and after surgery, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) images were captured at every follow-up point. RESULTS: The mean preoperative aperture diameter was 747±156 µm (range 611-1180 µm), with a mean base diameter of 1390±435 µm (range 578-2220 µm). Following surgery, all cases achieved complete anatomical closure of MH, with 13 cases (76.5%) exhibiting type 1 closure and 4 cases (23.5%) demonstrating type 2 closure. No significant differences were observed in the preoperative OCT variables between the two closure types. Eyes with type 1 closure showed a significantly improved visual acuity (0.70±0.10, range 0.50-0.80) compared to those with type 2 closure (0.90±0.12, range 0.80-1.00, P=0.014). CONCLUSION: The MH hydromassage technique demonstrates promising results, achieving acceptable closure rates in cases of large or persistent MH. This technique may serve as an effective adjunctive maneuver during challenging MH surgery.

RESUMO

Bacterial cellulose (BC) hydrogel is renowned in the field of tissue engineering for its high biocompatibility, excellent mechanical strength, and eco-friendliness. Herein, we present a biomimetic mineralization method for preparing BC/hydroxyapatite (HAP) composite hydrogel scaffolds with different mineralization time and ion concentration of the mineralized solution. Spherical HAP reinforcement enhanced bone mineralization, thereby imparting increased bioactivity to BC matrix materials. Subsequently, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) was introduced into the scaffold. The PRP-loaded hydrogel enhanced the release of growth factors, which promoted cell adhesion, growth, and bone healing. After 3 weeks of MC3T3-E1 cell-induced osteogenesis, PRP positively affected cell differentiation in BC/HAP@PRP scaffolds. Overall, these scaffolds exhibited excellent biocompatibility, mineralized nodule formation, and controlled release in vitro, demonstrating great potential for application in bone tissue repair.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To assess the clinical relevance and prognostic value of changes in the Naples prognostic score (NPS) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACR) among esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. METHODS: We studied 232 locally advanced ESCC patients who received NACR before undergoing esophagectomy retrospectively. Categorizing individuals into the elevated NPS group and the non-elevated NPS group based on the change in NPS after NACR (ΔNPS > 0 or ∆NPS ≤ 0), we examined and compared the clinicopathological characteristics, survival rates, and postoperative complications between these 2 groups (∆NPS = post-NACR NPS - pre-NACR NPS). RESULTS: Results: Out of the 232 patients enrolled, 105 exhibited elevated NPS levels, while 127 showed non-elevated NPS levels. Survival analyses indicated inferior overall survival (OS) (p=0.024) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) (p=0.047) in the elevated NPS cohort compared to the non-elevated NPS cohort. Subsequent cox regression analyses identified the post-NACR change in NPS as an independent prognostic indicator for RFS (p=0.029) and OS (p=0.036). CONCLUSION: Elevated NPS post-NACR emerged as a significant indicator of worse prognosis for locally advanced ESCC patients who underwent NACR. This finding has great potential to be useful for recognizing high-risk ESCC patients who received NACR before undergoing esophagectomy and making individualized subsequent therapeutic decisions in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The size of image volumes in connectomics studies now reaches terabyte and often petabyte scales with a great diversity of appearance due to different sample preparation procedures. However, manual annotation of neuronal structures (e.g., synapses) in these huge image volumes is time-consuming, leading to limited labeled training data often smaller than 0.001% of the large-scale image volumes in application. Methods that can utilize in-domain labeled data and generalize to out-of-domain unlabeled data are in urgent need. Although many domain adaptation approaches are proposed to address such issues in the natural image domain, few of them have been evaluated on connectomics data due to a lack of domain adaptation benchmarks. Therefore, to enable developments of domain adaptive synapse detection methods for large-scale connectomics applications, we annotated 14 image volumes from a biologically diverse set of Megaphragma viggianii brain regions originating from three different whole-brain datasets and organized the WASPSYN challenge at ISBI 2023. The annotations include coordinates of pre-synapses and post-synapses in the 3D space, together with their one-to-many connectivity information. This paper describes the dataset, the tasks, the proposed baseline, the evaluation method, and the results of the challenge. Limitations of the challenge and the impact on neuroscience research are also discussed. The challenge is and will continue to be available at https://codalab.lisn.upsaclay.fr/competitions/9169. Successful algorithms that emerge from our challenge may potentially revolutionize real-world connectomics research and further the cause that aims to unravel the complexity of brain structure and function.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the efficacy of raw corn starch (RCS) in clinical management of insulinoma-induced hypoglycemia. Methods We retrospectively collected clinical data of insulinoma patients who received RCS-supplemented diet preoperatively, and analyzed the therapeutic effects of the RCS intervention on blood glucose control, weight change, and its adverse events. Results The study population consisted of 24 case of insulinoma patients, 7 males and 17 females, aged 46.08 ± 14.15 years. Before RCS-supplemented diet, all patients had frequent hypoglycemic episodes (2.51 ± 3.88 times/week), concurrent with neuroglycopenia (in 83.3% of patients) and autonomic manifestations (in 75.0% of patients), with the median fasting blood glucose (FBG) of 2.70 [interquartile range (IQR): 2.50-2.90] mmol/L. The patients' weight increased by 0.38 (IQR: 0.05-0.65) kg per month, with 8 (33.3%) cases developing overweight and 7 (29.2%) cases developing obesity. All patients maintained the RCS-supplemented diet until they underwent tumor resection (23 cases) and transarterial chemoembolization for liver metastases (1 case). For 19 patients receiving RCS throughout the day, the median FBG within one week of nutritional management was 4.30 (IQR: 3.30-5.70) mmol/L, which was a significant increase compared to pre-nutritional level [2.25 (IQR: 1.60-2.90) mmol/L; P = 0.000]. Of them, 10 patients receiving RCS throughout the day for over four weeks had sustained improvement in FBG compared to pre-treatment [3.20 (IQR: 2.60-3.95) mmol/L vs. 2.15 (IQR: 1.83-2.33) mmol/L; P = 0.000). Five patients who received RCS only at night also had a significant increase in FBG within one week of nutritional management [3.50 (IQR: 2.50-3.65) mmol/L vs. 2.20 (IQR:1.80-2.60) mmol/L; P = 0.000], but only one patient who continued to receive RCS for over 4 weeks did not have a significant improvement in FBG. No improvement in weight gain was observed upon RCS supplementation. Mild diarrhea (2 cases) and flatulence (1 case) occurred, and were relieved by reduction of RCS dose. Conclusion The RCS-supplemented diet is effective in controlling insulinoma-induced hypoglycemia.
