BACKGROUNDS: This study aimed to determine whether the Mayo adhesive probability score (MAP), which evaluated adherent perinephric fat (APF), is useful in evaluating the difficulty of retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy (RLA), and to analyse the correlation between MAP and perioperative parameters. METHODS: Clinical data of 104 patients with adrenal adenoma who underwent RLA were collected for retrospective analysis. According to the CT images obtained before surgery, patients were divided into two groups: High MAP group (2-5 points) and Low MAP group (0-1 points). Comparison of the general clinical characteristics and the perioperative data between the two groups was made. RESULTS: There were more male patients (73.7% versus 34.3%), more patients with a smoking history (24.3% versus 7.5%), higher BMI (25.7 versus 23.2, kg/m2 ), and bigger (23.8 versus 18.5, mm) neoplasm in the high MAP group (P < 0.05). Significant difference was observed in operative time (128.8 versus 102.3, min), estimated blood loss (47.2 versus 25.2, ml) and drainage tube removal time (4.0 versus 3.2, d) between the two groups (P < 0.05). A high MAP score (P < 0.001) and the size of tumour (P = 0.024) were independent risk factors for extended operative time. A higher BMI (OR = 1.525, P < 0.001) and larger tumour size (OR = 2.862, P = 0.004) were independent risk factors for a high MAP score. CONCLUSIONS: MAP score was associated with the perioperative outcomes of RLA. BMI and tumour size were better indicators of MAP score, which can influence the difficulty of RLA.

Growing evidence shows that the lungs are an unavoidable target organ of diabetic complications. However, the pathologic mechanisms of diabetic lung injury are still controversial. This study demonstrated the dysbiosis of the gut and lung microbiome, pulmonary alveolar wall thickening, and fibrotic change in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice and antibiotic-induced gut dysbiosis mice compared with controls. In both animal models, the NF-κB signaling pathway was activated in the lungs. Enhanced pulmonary alveolar well thickening and fibrotic change appeared in the lungs of transgenic mice expressing a constitutively active NF-κB mutant compared with wild type. When lincomycin hydrochloride-induced gut dysbiosis was ameliorated by fecal microbiota transplant, enhanced inflammatory response in the intestine and pulmonary fibrotic change in the lungs were significantly decreased compared with lincomycin hydrochloride-treated mice. Furthermore, the application of fecal microbiota transplant and baicalin could also redress the microbial dysbiosis of the gut and lungs in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Taken together, these data suggest that multiple as yet undefined factors related to microbial dysbiosis of gut and lungs cause pulmonary fibrogenesis associated with diabetes mellitus through an NF-κB signaling pathway.

Camellia oleifera is a major tree species for producing edible oil. Its seed oil is well known for the high level of oleic acids; however, little is known regarding the molecular mechanism of lipid biosynthesis in C. oleifera. Here, we measured the oil contents and fatty acid (FA) compositions at four developmental stages and investigated the global gene expression profiles through transcriptomics sequencing. We identified differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) among the developmental stages and found that the distribution of numbers of DEGs was associated with the accumulation pattern of seed oil. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis revealed some critical biological processes related to oil accumulation, including lipid metabolism and phosphatidylcholine metabolism. Furthermore, we investigated the expression patterns of lipid biosynthesis genes. We showed that most of the genes were identified with single or multiple copies, and some had correlated profiles along oil accumulation. We proposed that the higher levels of stearoyl-ACP desaturases (SADs) coupled with lower activities of fatty acid desaturase 2 (FAD2) might be responsive to the boost of oleic acid at the late stage of C. oleifera seeds' development. This work presents a comprehensive transcriptomics study of C. oleifera seeds and uncovers valuable DEGs that are associated with the seed oil accumulation.
