RESUMO

Human brain demonstrates amazing readiness for speech and language learning at birth, but the auditory development preceding such readiness remains unknown. Cochlear implanted (CI) children (n = 67; mean age 2.77 year ± 1.31 SD; 28 females) with prelingual deafness provide a unique opportunity to study this stage. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy, it was revealed that the brain of CI children was irresponsive to sounds at CI hearing onset. With increasing CI experiences up to 32 months, the brain demonstrated function, region and hemisphere specific development. Most strikingly, the left anterior temporal lobe showed an oscillatory trajectory, changing in opposite phases for speech and noise. The study provides the first longitudinal brain imaging evidence for early auditory development preceding speech acquisition.

RESUMO

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is widely used for treating critically-ill patients in the emergency department in China. Anticoagulant therapy is needed to prevent clotting in the extracorporeal circulation during CRRT. Regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) has been shown to potentially be safer and more effective and is now recommended as the preferred anticoagulant method for CRRT. However, there is still a lack of unified standards for RCA management in the world, and there are many problems in using this method in clinical practice. The Emergency Medical Doctor Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) organized a panel of domestic emergency medicine experts and international experts of CRRT to discuss RCA-related issues, including the advantages and disadvantages of RCA in CRRT anticoagulation, the principle of RCA, parameter settings for RCA, monitoring of RCA (mainly metabolic acid-base disorders), and special issues during RCA. Based on the latest available research evidence as well as the paneled experts' clinical experience, considering the generalizability, suitability, and potential resource utilization, while also balancing clinical advantages and disadvantages, a total of 16 guideline recommendations were formed from the experts' consensus.

RESUMO

A large amount of gas, such as CO, accumulates in a coal mine after an explosion, leading to CO poisoning. In this study, a self-developed platform was used to eliminate CO from coal mines and determine the mass of the rapidly eliminated CO and its concentration in the eliminated gases. Equations were derived to calculate the amount of CO eliminated and the removing rate. The results showed that a rapid removing reagent in the form of nonprecious metal catalysts is useful for removing CO. Removing agents with larger masses facilitated the activation, irrespective of the CO concentration. For removing reagent amounts of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 g, the amount of CO eliminated, the removing rate, and the time required to complete catalytic oxidation increased sequentially. The CO removing process could be divided into three stages (I, II, and III) based on the variations in the CO, CO2, and O2 concentrations during CO removing. The removing reagent first chemically adsorbs CO and O2, and then desorbs CO2. The final CO concentration tends to 0, the O2 concentration remains stable, and the CO2 concentration decreases. This shows that the ablation agent has an impact on the changes in the CO and CO2 concentrations.

RESUMO

In view of the problem that excessive CO in underground coal mine space can easily lead to a large number of casualties, Cu-Mn-Sn water-resistant eliminators with different Sn contents were prepared by a co-precipitation method. The activity of the eliminators was analyzed by using an independently developed activity testing platform, N2 adsorption and desorption, XRD, SEM, XPS, and FTIR to characterize the activity factors and water resistance. The results showed that Cu-Mn-Sn-20 with 20% Sn content had the highest activity, which was 3.23 times that of Cu-Mn. The main reason for the increased activity is that Cu-Mn-Sn-20 doped with 20% Sn provides a larger specific surface area and more active sites and reduces the pore size, so that the crystallization degree of Cu1.4Mn1.5O4 is lower. The doping of 20% Sn reduces the absorption of lattice water and coordination water and improves the water resistance of Cu-Mn-Sn-type eliminators. The Cu-Mn-Sn-20 water-resistant eliminator is used to quickly eliminate CO in underground coal mines, which is of great significance for the rescue workers in underground coal mines after disasters.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Exertional heat stroke (EHS) is a life-threatening illness that can lead to multiple organ damage in the early stage. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between 24-hour indicators and mortality in patients with EHS. METHODS: The records of EHS patients hospitalized were collected and divided into the death group and the survival group. We then analyzed the demographic characteristics and APACHE II scores and laboratory results of the participants in the blood within the first 24 h after hospitalization, and assessed whether these candidate indicators differed between the death group and the survival group. Cox regression analysis of the survival data was performed to explore the relationship between early indicators and prognosis. RESULTS: The levels of plasma PT, APTT, TT, and INR were significantly higher in the death group than in the survival group. The blood PLT count and the levels of PTA and Fb were significantly lower in the death group than in the survival group, while the levels of BU, SCr, ALT, AST, TBil, and DBil were significantly higher in the death group than in the survival group. Furthermore, the levels of Mb, LDH, TNI, and NT-proBNP were significantly higher in the death group than in the survival group, while there was no significant difference in CK levels between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Patients with EHS often had multiple organ injuries in the early stage (within 24 h), while those cases in the death group were more severe.

RESUMO

Excessive plant height is an important factor that can lead to lodging, which is closely related to soybean yield. Gibberellins are widely used as plant growth regulators in agricultural production. Gibberellic acid (GA3), one of the most effective active gibberellins, has been used to regulate plant height and increase yields. The mechanism through which GA3 regulates internode elongation has been extensively investigated. In 2019 and 2020, we applied GA3 to the stems, leaves, and roots of two soybean cultivars, Heinong 48 (a high-stalk cultivar) and Henong 60 (a dwarf cultivar), and GA3 was also applied to plants whose apical meristem was removed or to girded plants to compare the internode length and stem GA3 content of soybean plants under different treatments. These results suggested that the application of GA3 to the stems, leaves, and roots of soybean increased the internode length and GA3 content in the stems. Application of GA3 decreased the proportion of the pith in the soybean stems and primary xylem while increasing the proportion of secondary xylem. The apical meristem is an important site of GA3 synthesis in soybean stems and is involved in the regulation of stem elongation. GA3 was shown to be transported acropetally through the xylem and laterally between the xylem and phloem in soybean stems. We conclude that the GA3 level in stems is an important factor affecting internode elongation.

RESUMO

As elucidated by prior research, children with hearing loss have impaired vocal emotion recognition compared with their normal-hearing peers. Cochlear implants (CIs) have achieved significant success in facilitating hearing and speech abilities for people with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss. However, due to the current limitations in neuroimaging tools, existing research has been unable to detail the neural processing for perception and the recognition of vocal emotions during early stage CI use in infant and toddler CI users (ITCI). In the present study, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) imaging was employed during preoperative and postoperative tests to describe the early neural processing of perception in prelingual deaf ITCIs and their recognition of four vocal emotions (fear, anger, happiness, and neutral). The results revealed that the cortical response elicited by vocal emotional stimulation on the left pre-motor and supplementary motor area (pre-SMA), right middle temporal gyrus (MTG), and right superior temporal gyrus (STG) were significantly different between preoperative and postoperative tests. These findings indicate differences between the preoperative and postoperative neural processing associated with vocal emotional stimulation. Further results revealed that the recognition of vocal emotional stimuli appeared in the right supramarginal gyrus (SMG) after CI implantation, and the response elicited by fear was significantly greater than the response elicited by anger, indicating a negative bias. These findings indicate that the development of emotional bias and the development of emotional perception and recognition capabilities in ITCIs occur on a different timeline and involve different neural processing from those in normal-hearing peers. To assess the speech perception and production abilities, the Infant-Toddler Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (IT-MAIS) and Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR) were used. The results revealed no significant differences between preoperative and postoperative tests. Finally, the correlates of the neurobehavioral results were investigated, and the results demonstrated that the preoperative response of the right SMG to anger stimuli was significantly and positively correlated with the evaluation of postoperative behavioral outcomes. And the postoperative response of the right SMG to anger stimuli was significantly and negatively correlated with the evaluation of postoperative behavioral outcomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the factors involved in the early stage of exertional heat stroke (EHS) that are associated with mortality. METHODS: In this retrospective, case-control study, patients from 11 tertiary medical centers in China were enrolled from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2019. Demographic information, underlying diseases, ambient temperature, and relative humidity, clinical manifestations, initial body temperature, time from onset to diagnosis of EHS (including suspected), and the duration of body temperature > 38°C of all enrolled patients were recorded. The occurrence of organ dysfunction within 72 h was evaluated, and in-hospital deaths were recorded. The patients were subsequently divided into a survival group and a non-survival group. The "case" refers to patients in the non-survival group, while the "control" refers to patients without death. RESULTS: Of the 214 hospitalized patients with EHS, 183 survived and 31 died, and the overall mortality was 14.49% (31/214). A binary logistic regression showed that only the duration of body temperature > 38°C (OR 1.80, 95% CI 1.34-2.42) and the number of organs damaged within 72 h of onset (OR 6.54, 95% CI 2.31-18.56) were statistically significant in terms of risk of death in hospital (p < 0.05). A goodness of fit test produced a p-value of 0.76. According to receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, the areas under the curve (AUC) were 0.989 (95% CI 0.978-1.000; p < 0.05) and 0.936 (95% CI 0.896-0.976; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Of the various factors involved in the early stage of the disease, the duration of high body temperature and the number of organs damaged within 72 h of onset were independent risk factors and predictors associated with death.

RESUMO

Addressing the issue of suffocation and casualties caused by a large amount of poisonous CO gas generated after a gas explosion, research involving an experimental system for the removal of CO using a Cu-Mn elimination agent was studied. The influence of O2 concentration, temperature, and CO concentration on the elimination performance of the agent after a gas explosion was studied. The quantitative relationship between the amount of CO eliminated, the elimination rate, the O2 concentration, and temperature was analyzed. Further analysis was completed regarding the influence of O2 concentration, temperature, and CO concentration on the thermal effect in the elimination process. The results showed that the elimination agent had a rapid effect on the removal of CO. When the ratio of CO concentration to O2 concentration was closer to the stoichiometric ratio, the elimination and reaction were more complete, the time to complete elimination was shorter, and the peak temperature was higher. As the temperature increased, the time to reach the elimination limit became longer, the elimination rate decreased, the reaction was slower, and the peak temperature was lower. As the CO concentration increased, it was observed that the higher the peak temperature, the longer it took to reach the peak time. The results of the study provide a theoretical support for the catalytic oxidation of CO using the Cu-Mn eliminator after a coal mine gas explosion.

RESUMO

In the deep mining process of coal seams, the mechanical environment of the coal body is complex and in the state of cyclic loading and unloading. The change in the stress state leads to the change in the pore characteristics and the permeability. To investigate the effects of cyclic loading and unloading on the pore characteristics and the permeability of coal, the seepage experiment was carried out for the coal samples using the self-developed triaxial permeation instrument. By pressure confining and continuous cyclic loading and unloading, the evolution of the porosity and the permeability of the coal samples was investigated. Under the condition of the experiment, the influences of the initial value of the confining pressure and the cyclic load amplitude on the evolution of the permeability and the pore structure characteristics of the coal samples were clarified. The experimental results showed that the porosity and the permeability decreased exponentially with an increase in the number of loading and unloading cycles, and this decreasing trend gradually weakened until the porosity and the permeability became relatively stable. When the cyclic load amplitude was the same and the confining pressure increased, the effective porosity of the coal body and the bound porosity decreased. When the confining pressure was the same and the cyclic load amplitude increased, the effective porosity of the coal body decreased and the bound porosity increased. The loss rate of the permeability of the coal samples increased gradually with an increase in the cyclic load amplitude. The same tendency was observed when the cyclic load amplitude was the same, and the confining pressure was different, while the increasing trend was not so obvious. By analyzing the relationship between the porosity and the permeability of the coal samples under different cyclic loading and unloading paths, it was found that the effective porosity and the permeability of the coal samples conformed to the power-law relationship in the process of cyclic loading and unloading, and the change in the cyclic load amplitude had a significant effect on this relationship. The influences of the cyclic load amplitude and the confining pressure on the stress sensitivity of the coal samples were considered, and the change factor of the stress sensitivity was introduced into the relationship between the porosity and the permeability. This relationship was established considering cyclic loading and unloading.
