BACKGROUND: The anthracycline chemotherapeutic antibiotic doxorubicin (DOX) can induce cumulative cardiotoxicity and lead to cardiac dysfunction. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) can function as important regulators in DOX-induced myocardial injury. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the functional role and molecular mechanism of lncRNA OXCT1 antisense RNA 1 (OXCT1-AS1) in DOX-induced myocardial cell injury in vitro. METHODS: Human cardiomyocytes (AC16) were stimulated with DOX to induce a myocardial cell injury model. OXCT1-AS1, miR-874-3p, and BDH1 expression in AC16 cells were determined by RT-qPCR. AC16 cell viability was measured by XTT assay. Flow cytometry was employed to assess the apoptosis of AC16 cells. Western blotting was used to evaluate protein levels of apoptosis-related markers. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was conducted to verify the binding ability between miR-874-3p and OXCT1-AS1 and between miR-874-3p and BDH1. The value of p<0.05 indicated statistical significance. RESULTS: OXCT1-AS1 expression was decreased in DOX-treated AC16 cells. Overexpression of OXCT1-AS1 reversed the reduction of cell viability and promotion of cell apoptosis caused by DOX. OXCT1-AS1 is competitively bound to miR-874-3p to upregulate BDH1. BDH1 overexpression restored AC16 cell viability and suppressed cell apoptosis under DOX stimulation. Knocking down BDH1 reversed OXCT1-AS1-mediated attenuation of AC16 cell apoptosis under DOX treatment. CONCLUSION: LncRNA OXCT1-AS1 protects human myocardial cells AC16 from DOX-induced apoptosis via the miR-874-3p/BDH1 axis.


FUNDAMENTO: O antibiótico quimioterápico antraciclina doxorrubicina (DOX) pode induzir cardiotoxicidade cumulativa e levar à disfunção cardíaca. RNAs não codificantes longos (lncRNAs) podem funcionar como importantes reguladores na lesão miocárdica induzida por DOX. OBJETIVO: Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar o papel funcional e o mecanismo molecular do RNA antisense lncRNA OXCT1 1 (OXCT1-AS1) na lesão celular miocárdica induzida por DOX in vitro. MÉTODOS: Cardiomiócitos humanos (AC16) foram estimulados com DOX para induzir um modelo de lesão celular miocárdica. A expressão de OXCT1-AS1, miR-874-3p e BDH1 em células AC16 foi determinada por RT-qPCR. A viabilidade das células AC16 foi medida pelo ensaio XTT. A citometria de fluxo foi empregada para avaliar a apoptose de células AC16. Western blotting foi utilizado para avaliar os níveis proteicos de marcadores relacionados à apoptose. O ensaio repórter de luciferase dupla foi conduzido para verificar a capacidade de ligação entre miR-874-3p e OXCT1-AS1 e entre miR-874-3p e BDH1. O valor de p<0,05 indicou significância estatística. RESULTADOS: A expressão de OXCT1-AS1 foi diminuída em células AC16 tratadas com DOX. A superexpressão de OXCT1-AS1 reverteu a redução da viabilidade celular e a promoção da apoptose celular causada pela DOX. OXCT1-AS1 está ligado competitivamente ao miR-874-3p para regular positivamente o BDH1. A superexpressão de BDH1 restaurou a viabilidade das células AC16 e suprimiu a apoptose celular sob estimulação com DOX. A derrubada do BDH1 reverteu a atenuação da apoptose de células AC16 mediada por OXCT1-AS1 sob tratamento com DOX. CONCLUSÃO: LncRNA OXCT1-AS1 protege células miocárdicas humanas AC16 da apoptose induzida por DOX através do eixo miR-874-3p/BDH1.

PURPOSE: To compare the clinical efficacy and prognosis differences between conservative treatment and surgical treatment in patients with non-serious neurologically intact pyogenic spondylitis (Nsi-Nsni-PS), and to provide theoretical reference for the clinical treatment of Nsi-Nsni-PS patients. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 112 cases of Nsi-Nsni-PS patients treated in our hospital from June 2016 to June 2021. According to different treatment methods, they were divided into conservative treatment group (53 cases) and surgical treatment group (59 cases). The general data, laboratory tests, imaging examinations, length of hospital stay, duration of antibiotic use, VAS for pain before and after treatment, ODI, local kyphotic angle correction of diseased vertebrae, and recurrence rate were collected and analyzed in both groups. SPSS 26.0 statistical software was used for analysis. Measurement data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation, and independent sample t-test or rank sum test was used for comparison between groups, while variance analysis was used for intra-group comparison. Count data were expressed as number (%) and compared between groups using chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Mann-Whitney U test was used to evaluate the changes in local kyphotic angle between the two groups. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in general data and imaging characteristics between the two groups (P > 0.05); there were no statistically significant differences in the positive culture rate of pathogens, length of hospital stay, duration of antibiotic use, treatment complications, WBC, CRP, ESR levels at admission and discharge, VAS and ODI at admission and last follow-up between the two groups (P > 0.05). The WBC and CRP levels of patients in the conservative group at discharge were lower than those in the surgical group (P < 0.05), and there was no significant difference in the decrease in inflammatory indicators (WBC, CRP, ESR) between the two groups (P > 0.05). By the last follow-up, the neurological function of patients in both groups had significantly improved compared to admission (P < 0.05), with 12 out of 15 ASIA grade D patients in the conservative group recovering to grade E, and 21 out of 25 grade D patients in the surgical group recovering to grade E, with no worsening of neurological function in either group. The differences in VAS and ODI scores at the last follow-up compared to before treatment were statistically significant in both groups (P < 0.05), and all patients regained normal activity. Compared with before treatment, the correction degree of local kyphotic angle in the surgical group at the last follow-up was 0.93 ± 4.94°, slightly higher than that in the conservative group (-0.83 ± 3.37°), and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: During our follow-up, we found that both conservative and surgical treatments achieved satisfactory clinical outcomes in patients with Nsi-Nsni-PS. Compared to conservative treatment, surgical intervention did not demonstrate significant advantages in reducing hospitalization time and antibiotic usage duration, increasing pathogen culture positivity rate, lowering treatment complications, or controlling recurrence. However, surgical intervention showed superiority in correcting the local kyphotic angle of spinal lesions, albeit with relatively increased surgical trauma, risks, and treatment costs. At the last follow-up, the surgical group did not exhibit better long-term efficacy. Therefore, when formulating clinical treatment strategies for patients with Nsi-Nsni-PS, it may be preferable to prioritize conservative treatment, supplemented by the use of sensitive or empiric antibiotics for infection management, to improve patient prognosis.

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between male hormones and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in males. METHODS: Data from the Fangchenggang Area Male Health and Examination Survey (FAMHES) were used to analyze the male hormone levels between MAFLD patients and controls. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for MAFLD. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to assess the diagnostic performance of male hormones for MAFLD. RESULT: A total of 1578 individuals were included, with 482 individuals (30.54%) of MAFLD, including 293 (18.57%) with mild disease and 189 (11.98%) with moderate-to-severe disease. The MAFLD patients were significantly older than those without MAFLD. The LH, FSH, and SHBG levels in the MAFLD patients were significantly greater than those in the control group. Age, FSH, LH, SHBG, and estradiol were all risk factors for MAFLD. Age, FSH, and LH were risk factors for moderate-to-severe MAFLD. FSH was an independent risk factor for MAFLD and moderate-to-severe MAFLD. FSH showed an excellent diagnostic value, with an AUC of 0.992 alone and 0.996 after adjusting age. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that FSH may be a potential diagnostic and predictive biomarker for MAFLD.

Over 170 chemical modifications have been discovered in various types of ribonucleic acids (RNAs), including messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and small nuclear RNA (snRNA). These RNA modifications play crucial roles in a wide range of biological processes such as gene expression regulation, RNA stability maintenance, and protein translation. RNA modifications represent a new dimension of gene expression regulation known as the "epitranscriptome". The discovery of RNA modifications and the relevant writers, erasers, and readers provides an important basis for studies on the dynamic regulation and physiological functions of RNA modifications. Owing to the development of detection technologies for RNA modifications, studies on RNA epitranscriptomes have progressed to the single-base resolution, multilayer, and full-coverage stage. Transcriptome-wide methods help discover new RNA modification sites and are of great importance for elucidating the molecular regulatory mechanisms of epitranscriptomics, exploring the disease associations of RNA modifications, and understanding their clinical applications. The existing RNA modification sequencing technologies can be categorized according to the pretreatment approach and sequencing principle as direct high-throughput sequencing, antibody-enrichment sequencing, enzyme-assisted sequencing, chemical labeling-assisted sequencing, metabolic labeling sequencing, and nanopore sequencing technologies. These methods, as well as studies on the functions of RNA modifications, have greatly expanded our understanding of epitranscriptomics. In this review, we summarize the recent progress in RNA modification detection technologies, focusing on the basic principles, advantages, and limitations of different methods. Direct high-throughput sequencing methods do not require complex RNA pretreatment and allow for the mapping of RNA modifications using conventional RNA sequencing methods. However, only a few RNA modifications can be analyzed by high-throughput sequencing. Antibody enrichment followed by high-throughput sequencing has emerged as a crucial approach for mapping RNA modifications, significantly advancing the understanding of RNA modifications and their regulatory functions in different species. However, the resolution of antibody-enrichment sequencing is limited to approximately 100-200 bp. Although chemical crosslinking techniques can achieve single-base resolution, these methods are often complex, and the specificity of the antibodies used in these methods has raised concerns. In particular, the issue of off-target binding by the antibodies requires urgent attention. Enzyme-assisted sequencing has improved the accuracy of the localization analysis of RNA modifications and enables stoichiometric detection with single-base resolution. However, the enzymes used in this technique show poor reactivity, specificity, and sequence preference. Chemical labeling sequencing has become a widely used approach for profiling RNA modifications, particularly by altering reverse transcription (RT) signatures such as RT stops, misincorporations, and deletions. Chemical-assisted sequencing provides a sequence-independent RNA modification detection strategy that enables the localization of multiple RNA modifications. Additionally, when combined with the biotin-streptavidin affinity method, low-abundance RNA modifications can be enriched and detected. Nevertheless, the specificity of many chemical reactions remains problematic, and the development of specific reaction probes for particular modifications should continue in the future to achieve the precise localization of RNA modifications. As an indirect localization method, metabolic labeling sequencing specifically localizes the sites at which modifying enzymes act, which is of great significance in the study of RNA modification functions. However, this method is limited by the intracellular labeling of RNA and cannot be applied to biological samples such as clinical tissues and blood samples. Nanopore sequencing is a direct RNA-sequencing method that does not require RT or the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). However, challenges in analyzing the data obtained from nanopore sequencing, such as the high rate of false positives, must be resolved. Discussing sequencing analysis methods for various types of RNA modifications is instructive for the future development of novel RNA modification mapping technologies, and will aid studies on the functions of RNA modifications across the entire transcriptome.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the inherent relationship between the score values and the biomechanical characteristics of the forward kicking motion, we aim to identify the fundamental variables influencing the score values of the forward kicking motion and establish the key biomechanical factors that effectively trigger scoring in the forward kicking motion. Methods: The DaeDo electronic scoring system was used with the Vicon optical motion capture system and the Kistler 3D force platform to obtain kinematic and kinetic variables of the front roundhouse kick motion. Linear bivariate correlation analysis and principal component analysis were used to analyze the associations between kinematic, kinetic variables, and scoring values, and summarize key biomechanical factors for effectively scoring. Results: The peak ankle plantar flexion angle and knee extension torque of the kicking leg showed a significant negative correlation with scoring values (r < 0, p < 0.05), while other variables showed no statistical significance. The peak knee flexion angle and hip extension angular velocity of the supporting leg showed a significant positive correlation with scoring values (r > 0, p < 0.01), while the peak ankle plantar flexion torque showed a significant negative correlation with scoring values (r < 0, p < 0.05), and other variables showed no statistically significant correlation. The absolute values of eigenvectors of the first and second principal components, which included hip angular velocity, ankle angle, knee torque, and hip torque, were relatively large, indicating their strong influence on effective scoring triggering. Conclusion: Maintaining ankle dorsiflexion and a larger knee flexion angle in the kicking leg is favorable for triggering scoring. Higher knee flexion angle and hip extension angular velocity in the supporting leg are also advantageous for triggering scoring. "Body posture" and "Strength" are key factors that effectively trigger scoring.

Improving the spot brightness and uniformity of arrangement of the array laser is conducive to ensuring the beam quality of the fiber laser. Based on the light tracing principle, the optical model performance of two common fiber lasers was first analyzed. Then, a novel rotationally polarized optical model with high power and spot uniformity was designed and optimized on the basis of the aforementioned analysis. The results of the evaluation metrics of the multi-indicator optical model show that the spot uniformity of our proposed model improved by 24.03%, the power improved by 0.55%, and the maximum light distance was shortened from 120 mm to 82.58 mm. Further, the results of the coupling tolerance analysis of the optical elements show that the total coupling efficiency was 89.04%. The coupling power and tolerance relationships did not produce degradation compared with the traditional model. Extensive comparative results show that the designed rotationally polarized optical path model can effectively improve the optical coupling efficiency and spot uniformity of arrayed semiconductor lasers.

Introduction: Microbial carbon (C) and nutrient limitation exert key influences on soil organic carbon (SOC) and nutrient cycling through enzyme production for C and nutrient acquisition. However, the intercropping effects on microbial C and nutrient limitation and its driving factors between rhizosphere and bulk soil are unclear. Methods: Therefore, we conducted a field experiment that covered sugarcane-peanut intercropping with sole sugarcane and peanut as controls and to explore microbial C and nutrient limitation based on the vector analysis of enzyme stoichiometry; in addition, microbial diversity was investigated in the rhizosphere and bulk soil. High throughput sequencing was used to analyze soil bacterial and fungal diversity through the 16S rRNA gene and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene at a phylum level. Results: Our results showed that sugarcane-peanut intercropping alleviated microbial C limitation in all soils, whereas enhanced microbial phosphorus (P) limitation solely in bulk soil. Microbial P limitation was also stronger in the rhizosphere than in bulk soil. These results revealed that sugarcane-peanut intercropping and rhizosphere promoted soil P decomposition and facilitated soil nutrient cycles. The Pearson correlation results showed that microbial C limitation was primarily correlated with fungal diversity and fungal rare taxa (Rozellomycota, Chyltridiomycota, and Calcarisporiellomycota) in rhizosphere soil and was correlated with bacterial diversity and most rare taxa in bulk soil. Microbial P limitation was solely related to rare taxa (Patescibacteria and Glomeromycota) in rhizosphere soil and related to microbial diversity and most rare taxa in bulk soil. The variation partitioning analysis further indicated that microbial C and P limitation was explained by rare taxa (7%-35%) and the interactions of rare and abundant taxa (65%-93%). Conclusion: This study indicated the different intercropping effects on microbial C and nutrient limitation in the rhizosphere and bulk soil and emphasized the importance of microbial diversity, particularly rare taxa.

The metal indium sulfides have attracted extensive research interest in photocatalysis due to regulable atomic configuration and excellent optoelectronic properties. However, the synthesis of metal indium sulfide atomic layers is still challenging since intrinsic non-van-der-Waals layered structures of some components. Here, a surfactant self-assembly growth mechanism is proposed to controllably synthesize metal indium sulfide atomic layers. Eleven types of atomic layers with tunable compositions, thickness, and defect concentrations are successfully achieved namely In2S3, MgIn2S4, CaIn2S4, MnIn2S4, FeIn2S4, ZnIn2S4, Zn2In2S5, Zn4In16S33, CuInS2, CuIn5S8, and CdIn2S4. The typical CaIn2S4 shows a defect-dependence activity for CO2 photoreduction. The designed S vacancies in CaIn2S4 can serve as catalytic centers to activate CO2 molecules via localized electrons for π-back-donation. The engineered S vacancies tune the non-covalent interaction with CO2 and intermediates, manages to tune the free energy, and lower the reaction energy barrier. As a result, the defect-rich CaIn2S4 displays 2.82× improved reduction rate than defect-poor CaIn2S4. Meantime, other components also display promising photocatalytic performance, such as Zn2In2S5 with a H2O2 photosynthesis rate of 292 µmol g-1 h-1 and CuInS2 with N2-NH4 + conversion rate of 54 µmol g-1 h-1. This work paves the way for the multidisciplinary exploration of metal indium sulfide atomic layers with unique photocatalysis properties.

While associations between periodontitis and an elevated risk of cancer have been suggested, the results of existing observational studies have been inconsistent, also leaving room for further investigation into the underlying mechanisms. This study was designed to delve into the possible causal link between periodontitis and 20 standard cancers while concurrently identifying potential mediators. We initiated a Mendelian randomization analysis that drew from either publicly accessible or personally obtained genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets. The inverse variance weighting (IVW) method served as our primary tool for analysis. To ensure the strength and consistency of our results, we implemented additional strategies, including weighted median, weighted mode, MR-Egger regression, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO), bolstered by funnel plots. Our analysis unveiled an elevated risk of head and neck cancer concomitant with periodontitis (p = 0.041, OR 0.999, 95% CI 0.999-1.000), specifically a heightened risk of oropharyngeal cancer (p = 0.022, OR 0.999, 95% CI 0.999-1.000). As a result of probing into potential mediators, Fusobacterium nucleatum emerged as a likely intermediary in the promoting effect of periodontitis on oropharyngeal cancer (p = 0.021, OR 0.999, 95% CI 0.998-1.000). Inversely, basal cell carcinoma and endometrial cancer demonstrated an association with an increased incidence of periodontitis (basal cell carcinoma: p = 0.020, OR 0.987, 95% CI 0.976-0.998; endometrial cancer: p = 0.027, OR 0.984, 95% CI 0.970-0.998). However, periodontitis exerted no significant causal impact on the 19 other common cancers or the three subtypes of head and neck cancer. To conclude, our results support the theory that periodontitis contributes to an enhanced risk of head and neck cancer, particularly oropharyngeal cancer, with Fusobacterium nucleatum functioning as a potential intermediary.

Herein, a novel copper selenide/zinc selenide/Nitrogen-doped carbon (Cu2Se/ZnSe/NC) sphere was constructed via a combination of cation exchange, selenization and carbonization approaches with zinc-based metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-8) as precursor for sulfadiazine (SDZ) removal. Compared with the ZnSe/NC, the defective Cu2Se/ZnSe interface in the optimizing Cu-ZnSe/NC2 sample caused a remarkably improved adsorption performance. Notably, the adsorption capacity of 129.32 mg/g was better than that of mostly reported adsorbents for SDZ. And the adsorption referred to multiple-layer physical-chemical process that was spontaneous and exothermic. Besides, the Cu-ZnSe/NC2 displayed fast adsorption equilibrium of about 20 min and significant anti-interference ability for inorganic ions. Specially, the adsorbent possessed excellent stability and reusability, which could also be applied for rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), and methyl orange (MO) dyes removal. Ultimately, the charge redistribution of Cu2Se/ZnSe interface greatly contributes the superior adsorption performance for SDZ, in which electrostatic attraction occupied extremely crucial status as compared to π-π electron-donor-acceptor (π-π EDA) interaction and hydrogen bonding (H-bonding), as revealed by the density function theory (DFT) calculations and experimental results. This study can provide a guideline for design of high-efficient adsorbent with interfacial charge redistribution.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) as a downstaging or bridging therapy for liver transplantation (LT) in hepatocellular carcinoma patients are rapidly increasing. However, the evidence about the feasibility and safety of pre-LT ICI therapy is limited and controversial. To this end, a multicenter, retrospective cohort study was conducted in 11 Chinese centers. The results showed that 83 recipients received pre-LT ICI therapy during the study period. The median post-LT follow-up was 8.1 (interquartile range 3.3-14.6) months. During the short follow-up, 23 (27.7%) recipients developed allograft rejection, and 7 of them (30.4%) were diagnosed by liver biopsy. Multivariate logistics regression analysis showed that the time interval between the last administration of ICI therapy and LT (TLAT) ≥ 30 days was an independent protective factor for allograft rejection (odds ratio = 0.096, 95% confidence interval 0.026-0.357; P < .001). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that allograft rejection was an independent risk factor for overall survival (hazard ratio = 9.960, 95% confidence interval 1.006-98.610; P = .043). We conclude that patients who receive a pre-LT ICI therapy with a TLAT shorter than 30 days have a much higher risk of allograft rejection than those with a TLAT longer than 30 days. The presence of rejection episodes might be associated with higher post-LT mortality.

To address the inaccuracy of the Constant Acceleration/Constant Velocity (CA/CV) model as the state equation in describing the relative motion state in UAV relative navigation, an adaptive UAV relative navigation method is proposed, which is based on the UAV attitude information provided by Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS). The proposed method utilizes the AHRS output attitude parameters as the benchmark for dead reckoning and derives a relative navigation state equation with attitude error as process noise. By integrating the extended Kalman filter output for relative state estimation and employing an adaptive decision rule designed using the innovation of the filter update phase, the proposed method recalculates motion states deviating from the actual motion using the Tasmanian Devil Optimization (TDO) algorithm. The simulation results show that, compared with the CA/CV model, the proposed method reduces the relative position errors by 12%, 23%, and 32% in the X, Y, and Z directions, respectively, and that it reduces the relative velocity errors by 350%, 330%, and 300%, respectively. There is a significant improvement in the relative navigation accuracy.

BACKGROUND: Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are closely related protozoan parasites that are considered important causes of abortion in livestock, causing huge economic losses. Hunan Province ranks 12th in the production of beef and mutton in China. However, limited data are available on the seroprevalence, risk factors and molecular characterization of T. gondii and N. caninum in beef cattle and goats in Hunan province, China. METHODS: Sera of 985 beef cattle and 1147 goats were examined for the presence of specific antibodies against T. gondii using indirect hemagglutination test (IHAT) and anti-N. caninum IgG using competitive-inhibition enzyme-linked immunoassay assay (cELISA). Statistical analysis of possible risk factors was performed using PASW Statistics. Muscle samples of 160 beef cattle and 160 goats were examined for the presence of T. gondii DNA (B1 gene) and N. caninum DNA (Nc-5 gene) by nested PCR. The B1 gene-positive samples were genotyped at 10 genetic markers using the multilocus nested PCR-RFLP (Mn-PCR-RFLP). RESULTS: Specific IgG against T. gondii were detected in 8.3% (82/985) and 13.3% (153/1147) and against N. caninum in 2.1% (21/985) and 2.0% (23/1147) of the beef cattle and goats, respectively. Based on statistical analysis, the presence of cats, semi-intensive management mode and gender were identified as significant risk factors for T. gondii infection in beef cattle. Age was a significant risk factor for T. gondii infection in goats (P < 0.05), and age > 3 years was a significant risk factor for N. caninum infection in beef cattle (P < 0.05). PCR positivity for T. gondii was observed in three beef samples (1.9%; 3/160) and seven chevon samples (4.4%; 7/160). Genotyping of PCR positive samples identified one to be ToxoDB#10. The N. caninum DNA was observed in one beef sample (0.6%; 1/160) but was negative in all chevon samples. CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first large-scale serological and molecular investigation of T. gondii and N. caninum and assessment of related risk factors in beef cattle and goats in Hunan Province, China. The findings provide baseline data for executing prevention and control of these two important parasites in beef cattle and goats in China.

Acoustic imaging technology has the advantages of non-contact and intuitive positioning. It is suitable for the rapid positioning of defects such as the mechanical loosening, discharge, and DC bias of power equipment. However, the existing research lacks the optimization design of microphone array topology. The acoustic frequency domain characteristics of typical power equipment are elaborately sorted out. After that, the cut-off frequencies of acoustic imaging instruments are determined, to meet the needs of the full bandwidth test requirements. Through a simulation calculation, the circular array is demonstrated to be the optimal shape. And the design parameters affect the imaging performance of the array to varying degrees, indicating that it is difficult to obtain the optimal array topology by an exhaustive method. Aimed at the complex working conditions of power equipment, a topology optimization design method of an acoustic imaging array for power equipment is proposed, and the global optimal solution of microphone array topology is obtained. Compared with the original array, the imaging performance of the improved LF and HF array is promoted by 54% and 49%, respectively. Combined with the simulation analysis and laboratory test, it is verified that the improved array can not only accurately locate the single sound source but also accurately identify the main sound source from the interference of the contiguous sound source.

The origin of the cosmic magnetic field remains an unsolved mystery, relying not only on specific dynamo processes but also on the seed field to be amplified. Recently, the diffuse radio emission and Faraday rotation observations reveal that there has been a microgauss-level magnetic field in intracluster medium in the early universe, which places strong constraints on the strength of the initial field and implies the underlying kinetic effects; the commonly believed Biermann battery can only provide extremely weak seed of 10-21 G. Here, we present evidence for the spontaneous Weibel-type magnetogenesis in laser-produced weakly collisional plasma with the three-dimensional synchronous proton radiography, where the distribution anisotropy directly arises from the temperature gradient, even without the commonly considered interpenetrating plasmas or shear flows. This field can achieve sufficient strength and is sensitive to Coulomb collision. Our results demonstrate the importance of kinetics in magnetogenesis in weakly collisional astrophysical scenarios.

The role of vacancy associates in photocatalytic CO2 reduction is an open question. Herein, the Nb─O vacancy associates (VNb─O) are engineered into niobic acid (NA) atomic layers to tailor the CO2 photoreduction performance. The intrinsic charge compensation from O to Nb around Nb─O vacancy associates can manipulate the active electronic states, leading to the asymmetric electron redistribution. These local symmetry breaking sites show a charge density gradient, forming a localized polarization field to polarize nonpolar CO2 molecules and tune the noncovalent interaction of reaction intermediates. This unique configuration contributes to the 9.3 times increased activity for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Meantime, this VNb─O NA also shows excellent photocatalytic activity for NO3 --NH4 + synthesis, with NH4 + formation rate up to 3442 µmol g-1 h-1. This work supplies fresh insights into the vacancy associate design for electron redistribution and noncovalent interaction tuning in photocatalysis.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcomes of a modified arthroscopic triple-row (TR) repair technique with the suture bridge (SB) repair technique in treating L-shaped delaminated rotator cuff tears. Various surgical techniques for L-shaped delaminated rotator cuff tears have been reported, many of which aid in increasing the contact area and pressure of the rotator cuff. However, there is still debate over which technique yields superior results. METHODS: From January 2017 to March 2020, 61 cases of L-shaped delaminated rotator cuff tears were included in this study. Of these, 34 cases underwent the modified arthroscopic triple-row repair technique, while 27 cases were addressed with the suture bridge repair technique. Functional assessment was conducted using the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder score, the Constant score (CS), and the visual analogue scale (VAS) score. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) assessments for rotator cuff healing were performed at the 24-month postoperative mark. Statistical evaluations were conducted using SPSS for Windows (Version 25.0, IBM, Armonk, NY, USA), employing the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare preoperative and postoperative data and ROM differences, and the Mann-Whitney U test for statistical differences in clinical outcome scores between the two groups. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Comparative analysis of the preoperative and final follow-up scores revealed a substantial enhancement in shoulder function, as indicated by the ASES, UCLA, CS, and VAS scores, with statistical significance (p < 0.001). At both the preoperative stage and final follow-up, no notable differences were observed in ASES, UCLA, CS, and VAS scores between the two groups. However, the TR repair group exhibited lower VAS scores than the SB group at 1 and 3 months postoperatively. Active range of motion (ROM) showed significant improvement in both groups. No significant differences in ROM were noted between the two groups either before the surgery or at the final follow-up. CONCLUSION: The study demonstrates that both the modified arthroscopic TR and SB techniques for L-shaped delaminated cuff tears yield satisfactory outcomes, with no significant differences in overall clinical performance. Notably, early postoperative pain management appears more effective with the modified TR technique, suggesting its potential for enhanced early recovery experiences. This technique's design, promoting securer fixation and optimal contact conditions, is implied to facilitate superior long-term healing, warranting further investigation into its long-term benefits.

DNA cytosine methylation (5-methylcytosine, 5mC) is a predominant epigenetic modification that plays a critical role in a variety of biological and pathological processes in mammals. In active DNA demethylation, the 10-11 translocation (TET) dioxygenases can sequentially oxidize 5mC to generate three modified forms of cytosine, 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5fC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC). Beyond being a demethylation intermediate, recent studies have shown that 5fC has regulatory functions in gene expression and chromatin organization. While some methods have been developed to detect 5fC, genome-wide mapping of 5fC at base resolution is still highly desirable. Herein, we propose a chemical labeling enrichment and deamination sequencing (CLED-seq) method for detecting 5fC in genomic DNA at single-base resolution. The CLED-seq method utilizes selective labeling and enrichment of 5fC-containing DNA fragments, followed by deamination mediated by apolipoprotein B mRNA-editing catalytic polypeptide-like 3A (APOBEC3A or A3A) and sequencing. In the CLED-seq process, while all C, 5mC, and 5hmC are interpreted as T during sequencing, 5fC is still read as C, enabling the precise detection of 5fC in DNA. Using the proposed CLED-seq method, we accomplished genome-wide mapping of 5fC in mouse embryonic stem cells. The mapping study revealed that promoter regions enriched with 5fC overlapped with H3K4me1, H3K4me3, and H3K27ac marks. These findings suggest a correlation between 5fC marks and active gene expression in mESCs. In conclusion, CLED-seq is a straightforward, bisulfite-free method that offers a valuable tool for detecting 5fC in genomes at a single-base resolution.

An unparalleled copper(I)-catalyzed synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles from tertiary amines in one step has been described. The one-pot reactions involving (N-isocyanimine)triphenylphosphorane, tertiary amines, and carboxylic acids resulted in the formation of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles in moderate to good yields through a consecutive oxidative Ugi/aza-Wittig reaction, enabling the direct functionalization of sp3 C-H bonds adjacent to the nitrogen atom. This method offered several notable advantages, including ligands-free, exceptional productivity and a high functional group tolerance. The preliminary biological evaluation demonstrated that compound 4f inhibited hepatoma cells efficiently, suggesting potentially broad applications of the approach for synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
