RESUMO

Ectropis obliqua, a notorious tea pest, produces a Type-II sex pheromone blend for mate communication. This blend contains (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-octadecatriene, (Z,Z)-3,9-cis-6,7-epoxy-octadecadiene, and (Z,Z)-3,9-cis-6,7-epoxy-nonadecadiene. To elucidate the genes related to the biosynthesis of these sex pheromone components, transcriptome sequencing of the female E. obliqua pheromone gland and the abdomen without pheromone gland was performed. Comparative RNAseq analyses identified 52 putative genes, including 7 fatty acyl-CoA elongases (ELOs), 9 fatty acyl-CoA reductases (FARs), 1 decarbonylase (DEC), 3 lipophorins (LIPs), and 32 cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs). Tissue expression profiles revealed that two ELOs (ELO3 and ELO5), two FARs (FAR2 and FAR9), one DEC (CYP4G173), and one LIP (LIP1) displayed either abdomen-centric or -specific expression, suggesting potential roles in sex pheromone biosynthesis within the oenocytes of E. obliqua. Furthermore, the tissue expression patterns, combined with phylogenetic analysis, showed that CYP340BD1, which was expressed specifically and predominantly only in the pheromone gland, was clustered with the previously reported epoxidases, highlighting its potential role in the epoxidation of the unsaturated polytriene sex pheromone components. Collectively, our research provides valuable insights into the genes linked to sex pheromone biosynthesis.

The brassica leaf beetle, Phaedon brassicae, is a serious defoliator of cruciferous crops. Halofenozide (Hal), an ecdysone agonist, is a new class of insect growth-regulating insecticide. Our preliminary experiment revealed the outstanding larval toxicity of Hal against P. brassicae. However, the metabolic degradation of this compound in insects remains unclear. In this study, oral administration of Hal at LC10 and LC25 caused severe separation of the cuticle and epidermis, leading to larval molting failure. Sublethal dose exposure also significantly reduced the larval respiration rate as well as their pupation rates and pupal weights. Conversely, the activities of the multifunctional oxidase, carboxylesterase (CarE), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) were significantly enhanced in Hal-treated larvae. Further analysis using RNA sequencing identified 64 differentially expressed detoxifying enzyme genes, including 31 P450s, 13 GSTs, and 20 CarEs. Among the 25 upregulated P450s, 22 genes were clustered into the CYP3 clan, and the other 3 genes belonged to the CYP4 clan. Meanwhile, 3 sigma class GSTs and 7 epsilon class GSTs were dramatically increased, accounting for the majority of the upregulated GSTs. Moreover, 16 of the 18 overexpressed CarEs were clustered into the coleopteran xenobiotic-metabolizing group. These results showed the augmented expression of detoxification genes in P. brassicae after exposed to sublethal dose of Hal, and helped to better understand the potential metabolic pathways that could contribute to the reduced sensitivity to Hal in this pest. Overall, a deep insight into the detoxification mechanisms would provide practical guidance for the field management of P. brassicae.

BACKGROUND: Mobile mindfulness meditation (MMM) is a mindfulness meditation intervention implemented using mobile devices such as smartphones and apps. MMM has been used to help manage the mental health of university students. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of MMM on the mental health of university students in the areas of stress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, well-being, and resilience. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of MMM on the mental health of university students. This study followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. An electronic literature search was performed on PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases, from inception to July 16, 2021. This study was conducted to identify studies that reported the effects of MMM on the primary outcomes including stress, anxiety, and depression, and on the secondary outcomes including mindfulness, well-being, and resilience. Two reviewers retrieved articles, evaluated quality, and extracted data independently. The methodological quality of the selected studies was determined using the Cochrane criteria for risk-of-bias assessment. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) for continuous outcomes and risk ratios for dichotomous outcomes were calculated. Sensitivity analyses and subgroup analyses were performed for results with high heterogeneity. The RevMan version 5.3 was used to perform meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 10 studies, including 958 university students, were selected for this meta-analysis. Results of the primary outcome showed that the MMM groups were more effective than the control groups in decreasing stress (SMD -0.41, 95% CI -0.59 to -0.23; P<.001) and alleviating anxiety (SMD -0.29, 95% CI -0.50 to -0.09; P=.004). However, there was no difference between the MMM groups and the control groups in depression (SMD -0.14, 95% CI -0.30 to 0.03; P=.11). The use of either waitlist control or traditional face-to-face intervention in the control group was identified as the source of heterogeneity. Specifically, the waitlist control subgroup (SMD -0.33, 95% CI -0.53 to -0.13; P=.002) was superior when compared with the face-to-face subgroup (SMD 0.29, 95% CI -0.01 to 0.59; P=.06). Results of the secondary outcome showed that the MMM groups were more effective than the control groups in enhancing well-being (SMD 0.30, 95% CI 0.11-0.50; P=.003) and improving mindfulness (SMD 2.66, 95% CI 0.77-4.55; P=.006). Whether commercial sponsorship was obtained was considered as the source of heterogeneity. The "without company support" group (SMD 17.60, 95% CI 11.32-23.87; P<.001) was superior to the "with company support" group (SMD 1.17, 95% CI -0.82 to 3.15; P=.25) in raising the level of mindfulness. However, there was no difference between the MMM and control groups in resilience (SMD -0.06, 95% CI -0.26 to 0.15; P=.59). The evidence level of the results from the 10 studies was determined to be moderate to low. CONCLUSIONS: MMM was an effective method to reduce stress and anxiety, and to increase the well-being and mindfulness of university students. However, further studies are needed to confirm our findings. INTRODUCTION: Existing studies have shown that mobile-based mindfulness meditation (MMM) can have a certain impact on nurses' mental health problems, but its specific effect and the effect on specific mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, well-being and resilience are not clear. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This study protocol follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols guidelines. Electronic search through PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, ERIC, Embase and three Chinese databases namely CNKI, Wan Fang and Chinese Biology Medicine disc. The inclusion criteria follow the PICO principle, which is defined translate the question into a searchable and answerable question . P (patient/population): clinical characteristics of patients; I (intervention or exposure): treatment measures or exposure factors of concern; C (comparison): control measure.; O (outcome): outcome indicator of concern. Registered nurses, preregistered nurses, midwives and nursing students will all be included, studies using MMM as intervention to improve mental health of nurses, compared with waitlist controls or traditional methods groups, outcomes assessment of stress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, well-being and resilience will meet the inclusion criteria. Studies designed randomised controlled trails (RCTs) of quasiexperimental and written in English or Chinese will be eligible. Search time was from inception of each database to July 2022. Two reviewers screen and assess studies for inclusion and extract data independently; any dispute will be settled through discussion. If the discussion still fails, the third author will make a decision. For RCT, risk of bias will be assessed using Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomised trials (RoB 2), and for non-RCT studies, risk of bias in non-randomised studies of interventions (ROBINS-I) tool will be performed. Meta-analysis will be performed using RevMan software if sufficient number of comparable studies are retrieved. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This is a study protocol of meta-analysis; no primary data will be collected, and no ethics assessment is required. The study results will be presented in a peer-reviewed scientific publication. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021277932.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore whether the attitudes of nursing students toward the use of mobile learning are positive or negative and to identify the factors influencing their attitudes by reviewing the literature. METHODS: Electronic search of six databases, including PubMed, the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, ProQuest, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library, was conducted, and relevant references within articles were manually searched. Retrieval time was from inception to October 21, 2020. The literature review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines and the integrative review method. The Mixed Method Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was used for quality assessment. RESULTS: A total of 316 articles were identified, and 18 English-language studies were finally included by reviewing titles, abstracts, and full text. Six quantitative, five qualitative, and seven mixed-method articles related to nursing students' attitudes toward the use of mobile learning were identified. The results showed that most nursing students had positive attitudes toward mobile learning. Although students expressed strong intentions for mobile learning, the actual usage rate in practical settings was low. Several advantageous factors included usefulness, convenience, and ease of use, whereas disadvantageous factors included hardware facility, updated content, and software stability. CONCLUSION: Most nursing students have positive attitudes and willingness to mobile learning, but the actual use rate remains low. Advantageous and disadvantageous factors coexist. Further studies are needed to assess how mobile learning improves nursing students' clinical knowledge and improves patient care.

The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess the effects of mobile learning for nursing students in clinical nursing education. Five electronic databases including PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, the Cochrane library and Web of Science were searched for English language articles published on or before February 10, 2020. Two reviewers retrieved articles, evaluated quality and extracted data independently. Review Manager (RevMan) version 5.3 software was used to perform meta-analysis. A total of 9 studies including 580 nursing students receiving clinical nursing education met the inclusion criteria. The mobile learning intervention led to significant improvements in nursing students' skills (SMD = 1.22, 95% CI [0.29, 2.14], P = 0.009), knowledge (SMD = 0.43, 95% CI [0.11, 0.76], P = 0.009), satisfaction (SMD = 0.31, 95% CI [0.05, 0.56], P = 0.020), and confidence (SMD = 0.4, 95% CI [0.16, 0.63], P < 0.001) compared with the control group. Due to differences in experimental design among studies and limited data availability, we cautiously conclude that mobile learning has a beneficial effect on clinical nursing education for nursing students compared with conventional methods.
