RESUMO

In the present study, via a 180-day field trial, the indicators of soil total cadmium, DTPA-Cd, organic matter, and plant cadmium extraction were tested after the application of chelate tetrasodium glutamate diacetate (GLDA) to investigate the potential of GLDA combined with Tagetes patula L. to remediate cadmium-contaminated soil. To do so, five GLDA treatments (e.g., 0, 292.5, 585, 1170, and 2340 kg hm-2) were practiced. For each treatment, the total GLDA was divided into two applications with 15-day intervals (0.25, 0.47, and 0.61 mg·kg-1) under T. patula plantation. Compared with the control, our results showed that GLDA application significantly increased the biomass of aerial parts of T. patula by 21.9% (p < 0.05). Likewise, Cd content in aboveground and underground parts of T. patula increased by 94.7% and 60.5%, respectively, compared with the control (p < 0.05). GLDA application caused significant increases in Cd accumulations in cell soluble fraction and cell wall by 290% and 123%, respectively (p < 0.05); soil pH and DTPA-Cd content increased with the increase of total application of GLDA. Co-application of GLDA (2340 kg hm-2) and T. patula reduced the total soil Cd content by 12.87% compared with the soil background. Altogether, our findings conclude on the efficacy of GLDA application for the remediation of Cd-contaminated farmlands under T. patula cultivation.

RESUMO

The wastewater from ready-mixed concrete plants is currently being recycled as concrete mixing water. It has attracted significant attention from the construction industry and researchers since it promotes sustainable development through environmental protection, energy-saving, and emissions reduction. This article review first introduces the nature of wastewater in ready-mixed concrete plants in different regions. Then the effects of solid content in water on various properties of concrete, including working performance, durability and microscopic properties, are reviewed, respectively, when concrete is mixed with wastewater instead of tap water. Furthermore, the microscopic mechanism of action in concrete mixing with wastewater is discussed, and future work is recommended. This review provides fundamentals on the study of the properties of concrete after wastewater is mixed into concrete.

RESUMO

This paper investigates the global pinning synchronization problem for a class of complex networks with aperiodic samplings. Combined with the Writinger-based integral inequality, a new less conservative criterion is presented to guarantee the global pinning synchronization of the complex network. Furthermore, a novel condition is proposed under which the complex network is globally pinning synchronized with a given performance index. It is shown that the performance index has a positive correlation with the upper bound of the sampling intervals. Finally, the validity and the advantage of the theoretic results obtained are verified by means of the applications in Chua's circuit and pendulum.

RESUMO

In this paper, the reachable set estimation problem is investigated for Markovian jump neural networks (NNs) with time-varying delays and bounded peak disturbances. Our goal is to find a set as small as possible which bounds all the state trajectories of the NNs under zero initial conditions. In the framework of Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem, a newly-found summation inequality combined with the reciprocally convex approach is used to bound the difference of the proposed Lyapunov functional. A new less conservative condition dependent on the upper bound, the lower bound and the delay range of the time delay is established to guarantee that the state trajectories are bounded within an ellipsoid-like set. Then the result is extended to the case with incomplete transition probabilities and a more general condition is derived. Finally, examples including a genetic regulatory network are given to demonstrate the usefulness and the effectiveness of the results obtained in this paper.

RESUMO

In reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA)-based wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON), the bit rate is limited by low modulation bandwidth of RSOAs. To overcome the limitation, we apply QR decomposition in channel equalizer (QR-CE) to achieve successive interference cancellation (SIC) for discrete Fourier transform spreading orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S OFDM) signal. Using an RSOA with a 3-dB modulation bandwidth of only ~800 MHz, we experimentally demonstrate a 15.5-Gb/s over 20-km SSMF DFT-S OFDM transmission with QR-CE. The experimental results show that DFTS-OFDM with QR-CE attains much better BER performance than DFTS-OFDM and OFDM with conventional channel equalizers. The impacts of several parameters on QR-CE are investigated. It is found that 2 sub-bands in one OFDM symbol and 1 pilot in each sub-band are sufficient to achieve optimal performance and maintain the high spectral efficiency.

RESUMO

A large scale wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. 124 bidirectional optical channels with 10-Gb/s downstream and 1.25-Gb/s upstream transmission are simultaneously distributed by a single 32*32 cyclic AWG. The effect of the extinction ratio and seeding power to BER performance are experimentally investigated. The selection of the subcarrier frequency is also analyzed by simulation.

RESUMO

An all-optical wavelength multicasting scheme using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) Sagnac loop mirror has been demonstrated. This proposed scheme has the advantage that even when the wavelength of a multicast channel overlaps with the pump-pump generated idler, clear eye diagram can still be observed. Six and ten 10-Gb/s multicast channels, compliant with the ITU grid, are successfully obtained by using two- and three-pump lasers, respectively. Multicasting of on-off shift keying (OOK) and differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals are both successfully demonstrated. The maximum power penalty of the multicast channels is less than 3.5 dB. Furthermore, compared with the non-loop configuration, up to 1.2 dB power penalty improvement can be achieved in this proposed Sagnac loop configuration.

RESUMO

A simplified all-optical label swapping scheme is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for all-optical packet switching. This scheme is based on the sub-carrier label multiplexing technique but it significantly reduces the cost and complexity of the label erasure and rewriting process at the intermediate nodes. This is accomplished using a shared interferometric filter for all wavelength channels to separate the payloads and labels as well as using gain-saturated RSOAs for label erasure and rewriting. Label swapping process is realized through re-assigning optical subcarriers to each output wavelength channel and rewriting the new label with RSOAs. The BER-free transmissions experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

RESUMO

We report a novel architecture that can be used to construct optical switch fabrics with very high port count and nanoseconds switching speed. It is well known that optical switch fabrics with very fast switching time and high port count are challenging to realize. Currently, one of the most promising solutions is based on a combination of wavelength-tunable lasers and the arrayed waveguide grating router (AWGR). To scale up the number of ports in such switches, a direct method is to use AWGRs with a high channel count. However, such AWGRs introduce very large crosstalk noise due to the close wavelength channel spacing. In this paper, we propose an architecture for realizing a high-port count optical switch fabric using a combination of low-port count AWGRs, optical ON-OFF gates and WDM couplers. Using this new methodology, we constructed a proof-of concept experiment to demonstrate the feasibility of a 256 x 256 optical switch fabric. To our knowledge, this port count is the highest ever reported for switch fabrics of this type.

RESUMO

We propose and experimentally demonstrate light beam coupling between a single-mode fiber (SMF) and a highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HN-PCF) based on the fused biconical tapering (FBT) technique. In our experiment, a standard SMF is pre-tapered to match its propagation constant to that of a HN-PCF. In order to remove the condensation in the air holes, the temperature is increased gradually to preheat the fibers. An appropriate level of hydrogen flow is administered to avoid the air-hole collapse. As a result, coupling ratio exceeding 90% between the SMF and HN-PCF is achieved. This technique avoids back Fresnel reflection, mode-field diameter (MFD) mismatch and fiber-core misalignment, bubble generation and air-hole collapse in the interface fusion splice.

RESUMO

We propose a new WDM-PON architecture using Fabry-Pérot laser diodes (FP-LDs) that are injection-locked by continuous wave (CW) seed light. The modulation characteristics of the CW light injection-locked FP-LD are first investigated. Both uplink and downlink transmissions at 10 Gb/s are experimentally demonstrated using the proposed CW injection-locked FP-LDs. It is shown that up to 16 laser cavity modes can be selectively injection-locked with side mode suppression ratio larger than 30dB. The effects of the location of FP-LD cavity modes, transmission distance, and injection wavelength detuning on the overall transmission performance are investigated. The possibility of eliminating polarization dependence of the proposed CW injection scheme is also experimentally demonstrated by properly configuring a depolarizer. The deployment cost for the proposed WDM PON is potentially low from the fact that the CW laser sources located at the central office can be shared by many WDM-PONs and low-cost FP-LDs are used as light sources for data rates as high as 10 Gb/s.
