RESUMO

With the continuous development of wearable electronics, higher requirements are put forward for flexible, detachable, stable output, and long service life power modules. Given the limited capacity of energy storage devices, the integration of energy capture and storage is a viable approach. Here, we present a flexible, wearable, wireless-charging power system that integrates a piezoelectric ultrasonic array harvester (PUAH) with MXene-based solid-state supercapacitors (MSSSs) in a soft wristband format for sustainable applications. The MSSS as the energy storage module is developed by using Ti3C2Tx nanosheet-loaded inserted finger-like carbon cloth skeletons as electrodes and poly(vinyl alcohol)/H3PO4 gel as electrolytes, with high energy density (58.74 Wh kg-1) and long cycle life (99.37%, 10,000 cycles). A two-dimensional stretchable piezoelectric array as a wireless-charging module hybridizes high-performance 1-3 composite units with serpentine electrodes, which allows wireless power via ultrasonic waves, with a maximum power density of 1.56 W cm-2 and an output voltage of 20.75 V. The overall PUAH-MSSS wireless energy supply system is 2 mm thick and offers excellent energy conversion/storage performance, cyclic stability, and mechanical flexibility. The results of this project will lay the foundation for the development of next-generation wearable electronics.

ABSTRACT: Sepsis is a highly prevalent and deadly disease. Currently, there is a lack of ideal biomarker prognostis models for sepsis. We attempt to construct a model capable of predicting the prognosis of sepsis patients by integrating transcriptomic and proteomic data. Through analysis of proteomic and transcriptomic data, we identified 25 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Single-factor Cox-Lasso regression analysis identified 16 DEGs (overall survival-DEGs) associated with patient prognosis. Through multifactor Cox-Lasso regression analysis, a prognostic model based on these 16 genes was constructed. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were used to further validate the high stability and good predictive ability of this prognostic model with internal and external data. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis of overall survival-DEGs and differentially expressed genes between high and low-risk groups based on the prognostic model revealed significant enrichment in immune-related pathways, particularly those associated with viral regulation.

Ultrasound-driven bioelectronics could offer a wireless scheme with sustainable power supply; however, current ultrasound implantable systems present critical challenges in biocompatibility and harvesting performance related to lead/lead-free piezoelectric materials and devices. Here, we report a lead-free dual-frequency ultrasound implants for wireless, biphasic deep brain stimulation, which integrates two developed lead-free sandwich porous 1-3-type piezoelectric composite elements with enhanced harvesting performance in a flexible printed circuit board. The implant is ultrasonically powered through a portable external dual-frequency transducer and generates programmable biphasic stimulus pulses in clinically relevant frequencies. Furthermore, we demonstrate ultrasound-driven implants for long-term biosafety therapy in deep brain stimulation through an epileptic rodent model. With biocompatibility and improved electrical performance, the lead-free materials and devices presented here could provide a promising platform for developing implantable ultrasonic electronics in the future.

Biodegradable piezoelectric devices hold great promise in on-demand transient bioelectronics. Existing piezoelectric biomaterials, however, remain obstacles to the development of such devices due to difficulties in large-scale crystal orientation alignment and weak piezoelectricity. Here, we present a strategy for the synthesis of optimally orientated, self-aligned piezoelectric γ-glycine/polyvinyl alcohol (γ-glycine/PVA) films via an ultrasound-assisted process, guided by density functional theory. The first-principles calculations reveal that the negative piezoelectric effect of γ-glycine originates from the stretching and compression of glycine molecules induced by hydrogen bonding interactions. The synthetic γ-glycine/PVA films exhibit a piezoelectricity of 10.4 picocoulombs per newton and an ultrahigh piezoelectric voltage coefficient of 324 × 10-3 volt meters per newton. The biofilms are further developed into flexible, bioresorbable, wireless piezo-ultrasound electrotherapy devices, which are demonstrated to shorten wound healing by ~40% and self-degrade in preclinical wound models. These encouraging results offer reliable approaches for engineering piezoelectric biofilms and developing transient bioelectronics.

Hypercalcaemia associated with malignancy is a complication of advanced tumors. Lactic acidosis is also an extremely rare paraneoplastic syndrome of malignancy, and the presence of both usually indicates an extremely poor prognosis for the tumour. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and is also a common aggressive lymphoma. It is extremely rare for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma to develop both hypercalcaemia and severe lactic acidosis. In this article, we report a case of CD5 positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with hypercalcaemic crisis and persistent lactic acidosis, in which calcium was rapidly reduced to normal after rehydration, diuresis, calcitonin and zoledronate, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). After correction of acidosis with sodium bicarbonate, diuresis, vitamin B1 and CRRT, the patient's lactate remained at a high level. The aim of this article is to analyse the experience of the combination of hypercalcaemia and intractable lactic acidosis, which should be considered as a serious electrolyte disorder possibly associated with abnormal metabolism of malignant tumors, and to identify and treat the primary lesion as early as possible.

Background: Alveolar epithelial cell injury is a key factor in the occurrence and development of pulmonary acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDSp). Yet the gene expression profile of alveolar epithelial cells of patients with ARDSp remains unclear. Methods: We analyzed single nuclear RNA sequencing (snRNA-Seq) data from autopsy lung tissues of both ARDSp patients and healthy donors. Sequence data for type 2 alveolar epithelizal cells (AT2) were extracted by the Seurat package. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in AT2 were identified by the criteria |log2FC| ≥ 0.25 and P < 0.05 with DESeq2. A protein interaction network was constructed using Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING) and Cytoscape software to identify hub genes. We then constructed an ARDSp rat model through induction by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) airway instillation. Left lung RNA was extracted and sequenced via Illumina Hiseq platforms. Analysis of the rat RNA sequencing data was then used to verify hub genes. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were performed on the identified hub genes. Results: In AT2, a total of 289 genes were identified as differentially expressed between those from ARDSp patients and healthy donors, and these included 190 upregulated and 99 downregulated genes. Ten hub genes were further identified (RPS27A, ACTG1, CAV1, HSP90AA1, HSPA5, CCND1, ITGA3, B2M, NEDD4L, and SEMA5A). There was a similar expression trend of HSPA5 between rat RNA and snRNA sequencing data. Discussion: ARDSp altered the gene expression profile of AT2. The identified hub genes were enriched in biological processes mainly involved in cell growth and transformation. Relatedly, ferroptosis and autophagy are possibly involved in AT2 injury during ARDSp. These novel insights into ARDSp may aid the discovery of potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of ARDSp.

Implantable medical electronics (IMEs) are now becoming increasingly prevalent for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Despite extensive efforts, a primary challenge for IMEs is reliable wireless power and communication to provide well-controlled, therapeutically relevant effects. Ultrasonic energy transfer and communication (UETC) employing traveling ultrasound waves to transmit energy has emerged as a promising wireless strategy for IMEs. Nevertheless, conventional UETC systems are rigid, bulky, and based on toxic lead-based piezoelectric materials, raising efficiency and safety concerns. Here, we present a novel transcutaneous UETC system based on a two-dimensional flexible lead-free piezoelectric array (f-LFPA) that hybridizes high-performance (piezoelectric coefficient d33 ≈ 503 pC N-1) (K,Na)NbO3-based eco-friendly piezo-units with soft structural components. The newly developed lead-free piezo-unit exhibits submicron ferroelectric domains and superior energy harvesting figures of merit (d33g33 ≈ 20 000 × 10-15 m2 N-1), resulting in the prepared f-LFPA demonstrating a high output voltage of 22.4 V, a power density of 0.145 W cm-2, and a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 30 dB within the FDA safety limits, while maintaining the flexibility for wide-angle receiving. Further ex vivo experiment demonstrates the adequate power supply capabilities of the f-LFPA and its possible application in future implantable eco-friendly bioelectronics for diagnostics, therapy, and real-time monitoring.

A simple, rapid, and efficient pretreatment method of mefentrifluconazole enantiomers in cereal samples was established by dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction coupled with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (UHPLC-DAD). In this study, a novel ternary magnetic deep eutectic solvent (MDES) [octyltrimethylammonium bromide][cobalt chloride][acetic acid] was synthesized as the extractant. Acetic acid was used as the dispersant to promote the in situ dispersion of binary MDES [octyltrimethylammonium bromide][cobalt chloride]. The microdroplets of binary MDES containing mefentrifluconazole were separated by an external magnet. Device-assisted dispersion and time-consuming centrifugation steps were eliminated to ensure simplicity and rapidity of the pretreatment. Good linearity ranging from 0.01 µg g-1 to 2 µg g-1 was obtained. The extraction recovery varied from 82.9 to 95.0%. The limit of detection was 0.003 µg g-1. Finally, this established approach has been applied for the enantioselective detection of chiral mefentrifluconazole in corn, rice, wheat, millet, and sorghum samples.

The prominent advances in both piezoelectricity and temperature stability of potassium sodium niobate-based ceramics make this material system the most potential alternative to toxic lead-based families. However, previous studies have shown that the excellent temperature stability of the electrostrain can be obtained only under a high electric field. This issue can be well solved by our new proposed strategy of constructing multilayer composite ceramics, where an extremely low electric-field-dependent temperature stability of the strain can be achieved, far outperforming the results reported so far. The synergistic contributions from stacking components with different strain responses under different temperatures and electric field strengths realize the dynamic balance of electrostrain of the multilayer composite ceramics, which is also revealed by phase-field simulation. This work provides new ideas for the artificial structural design for the development of stable and reliable high-performance piezo/ferroelectric ceramics.

A switchable deep eutectic solvent-based homogeneous liquid-liquid microextraction (SDES-HLLME) technique was developed and combined with high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detection for the determination of the chiral fungicide mefentrifluconazole. A (green) SDES was synthesized from 4-methoxyphenyl and 3-amino-1-propanol and used as an extraction solvent (thus avoiding the use of toxic extraction solvents). To improve the efficiency of the extraction process, a hydrophobic extraction solvent was subsequently generated in situ by adjusting the pH. The detection process is linear in the range of 0.01 to 1 µg ml-1 . The limit of detection and limit of quantification were determined to be 0.003 and 0.01 µg ml-1 , respectively. Recovery rates of 79.2% to 104.6% were acquired with relative standard deviations of 0.6% to 2.5%. The method is fast, simple, and environmentally friendly. Moreover, it was successfully used to enantioselectively determine the concentrations of mefentrifluconazole residues in water, fruit juice, and fermented liquor samples.

Cyclodextrin-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (CD-DLLME) was developed for the determination of triazole and strobilurin fungicides in water, juice, and vinegar samples using high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD). Undecanol, which is a green solvent, was selected as the extraction solvent. A cyclodextrin aqueous solution was chosen as the dispersion solvent and demulsifier to avoid the use of a toxic dispersion solvent and eliminate the centrifugation step. Dispersion and phase separation were completed within 1 and 60 s, respectively. The linear range of this method was 1 to 100 µg L-1. The limits of detection were 0.3 µg L-1 along with the preconcentration factor of 133 and enrichment factor of 124. The recovery was 83.2% to 103.2%. This pretreatment method was fast, simple, and environmentally friendly and was successfully applied to the analysis of triazole and strobilurin fungicide residues in water, juice, and vinegar samples.

To simultaneously determine the enantiomers of prothioconazole and its chiral metabolite prothioconazole-desthio in water, beer, Baijiu, and vinegar samples by HPLC, a simple, fast, environmentally-friendly popping candy-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction technique was developed. A green medium-chain fatty acid (decanoic acid) and popping candy could be used as the extractant and solid dispersant respectively to avoid the use of toxic organic solvents. Decanoic acid was collected after extraction by solidification at room temperature. The linear range of this technique was from 27.1 to 1000 µg L-1. The limits of detection and quantification were within the ranges of 8.1-11.2 µg L-1 and 27.1-37.3 µg L-1, respectively. The extraction recovery was 80.8% to 102.5% with the relative standard deviation ranged from 1.1 to 7.1%. This technique has been successfully applied to enantioselectively determine the residues of prothioconazole and prothioconazole-desthio in water, beer, Baijiu, and vinegar samples.

Preferable temperature stability of ferroelectric and strain properties can be achieved in potassium sodium niobate (KNN)-based ceramics compared to that of other lead-free piezoelectric material systems, giving it greater potential for use in electronic devices once the temperature reliability issue related to the piezoelectric constant (d33) can be further resolved. Through exploration of the nature of the temperature stability from the evolution of a crystal structure under external fields, it has been determined that the electric field has no effect on the temperature stability of d33, resulting in almost the same trend of changes in d33 with temperature under both in situ and ex situ measurements, which is totally unlike the close relationship between the electric field and the strain temperature stability. With analysis of multiple factors including intrinsic phase coexistence, electric-field-induced domain texturing, lattice distortion, and thermally induced domain detexturing, the intrinsic contribution of phase evolution plays a dominant role in the temperature stability of d33 because of the mutual counteraction of domain texturing, lattice distortion, and thermal domain detexturing. Our research provides a systematic approach to understanding the nature of the d33 temperature stability in KNN-based ceramics and proposes some favorable suggestions on the future design of materials with good temperature reliability.

In this study, we present a novel cross-linked unimolecular micelle based on chitosan. For controlling drug delivery via oral administration, emodin (EMO) encapsulated micelles were loaded into sodium alginate hydrogel matrix to construct the pH-sensitive hydrogel/micelle composites. The optimized formulation of micelle that consists of 8.06% CaCl2, 1.71% chitosan and 26.52% ß-GP was obtained by the combination of Box-Behnken experimental design and response surface methodology. The morphological analysis showed that the micelles exhibited a smaller diameter of about 80nm in aqueous solution, but dilated to 100-200nm in hydrogel owing to the formation of polyelectrolyte complexes. The physical characteristics in simulated digestive fluids were investigated, demonstrating that the ratio of hydrogel to micelle distinctly affected swelling, degradation and in vitro drug release behaviors. The hydrogel/micelle (1:1) exhibited a sustained-release profile, while hydrogel/micelle (3:1) exhibited a colon-specific profile. Their corresponding release mechanisms revealed that the release of drug from these two formulations followed a complex process, in which several mechanisms were involved or occurred simultaneously. These results demonstrated that the pH-sensitive hydrogel/micelle composites constructed with biocompatible materials can be a promising sustained-release or site-specific drug delivery system for instable or hydrophobic drugs.
