RESUMO
PURPOSE: To elucidate whether wide-field fluorescein angiography (WFFA) can yield additional information in patients with newly diagnosed idiopathic acute anterior uveitis (AAU). METHODS: The WFFA was performed in patients with idiopathic AAU, and the findings were analyzed according to the scoring system by Angiography Scoring for Uveitis Nomenclature. RESULTS: Forty-four eyes of 30 patients (22 eyes of 13 patients in the pediatric group and 22 eyes of 17 patients in the adult group) were studied. The mean age was 12.41 ± 3.92 (range, 5-18) years in the pediatric group and 42.36 ± 32.07 (range, 24-68) years in the adult group. Thirteen eyes (59%) of pediatric patients and 12 eyes (54%) of adult patients showed some evidence of posterior segment activity on the WFFA (p = .764). Systemic treatment was administered in 53.8% of the pediatric and 5.9% of adult patients, depending on the disease severity. CONCLUSION: Pediatric patients with idiopathic AAU may have subtle posterior segment manifestations more than adult patients, and posterior segment findings may affect the treatment preferences of physicians.

PURPOSE: The present study aimed to investigate the value of calprotectin and other inflammatory parameters in patients with glaucoma and systemic diseases accompanying pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX-S). METHODS: This prospective study included 45 PEX-S patients and 45 non-PEX control patients. Patients were investigated for the presence of glaucoma, cardiovascular disease (CVD), ischemic brain disease (IBD), Alzheimer's disease, and neurosensory hearing loss (NSHL). After excluding diseases that may affect inflammatory parameters, a detailed biomicroscopic examination, and blood tests were performed for the patients. RESULTS: Glaucoma, CVD, NVK, Alzheimer's disease, and NSHL were high in the PEX-S group ( P = 0.01, P = 0.01, P = 0.04, P = 0.04, and P = 0.03, respectively). Calprotectin, ferritin, neutrophil-to-platelet ratio, and lymphocyte-to-platelet ratio were found to be high in the PEX-S group ( P < 0.01, P = 0.04, P < 0.01, and P < 0.01, respectively). On evaluating the relationship between PEX-S and glaucoma and systemic diseases, it was found that elevated calprotectin increased the risk of glaucoma by 4.36 times and elevated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) increased the risk of CVD by 3.23 times in PEX-S patients ( P = 0.02 and P = 0.03, respectively). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated the value of calprotectin elevation in detecting concomitant glaucoma in PEX-S patients and, in addition, the value of NLR elevation in detecting concomitant CVD.
RESUMO
Purpose: To report a case of bilateral acute iris transillumination (BAIT) in association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).Case report: A 44-year-old woman patient presented with decreased visual acuity, pain, photophobia, and redness in both eyes. The patient reported that she had recent close contact with severe acute respiratory syndrome - coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) case; also, she mentioned that she was hospitalized for bilateral pneumonia for 14 days. On examination, visual acuity of both eyes was 20/40. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy showed bilateral pigment deposition on the corneal endothelium, 4+ pigment dispersion in the anterior chamber, iris depigmentation with iris transillumination defects. Intraocular pressure was measured as 32 mmHg in right eye and 38 mmHg in left eye. The patient was started on bilaterally topical anti-inflammatory and anti-glaucomatous therapy. Conclusion: It is important to keep in mind that ocular manifestations associated with COVID-19 may include rare entities such as BAIT.
