RESUMO

Inducing strain in the lattice effectively enhances the intrinsic activity of electrocatalysts by shifting the metal's d-band center and tuning the binding energy of reaction intermediates. NiFe-layered double hydroxides (NiFe LDHs) are promising electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to their cost-effectiveness and high catalytic activity. The distorted ß-NiOOH phase produced by the Jahn-Teller effect under the oxidation polarization is known to exhibit superior catalytic activity, but it eventually transforms to the undistorted γ-NiOOH phase during the OER process. Such a reversible lattice distortion limits the OER activity. In this study, we propose a facile boron tungstate (BWO) anion intercalation method to induce irreversible lattice distortion in NiFe LDHs, leading to significantly enhanced OER activity. Strong interactions with BWO anions induce significant stress on the LDH's metal-hydroxide slab, leading to an expansion of metal-oxygen bonds and subsequent lattice distortion. In situ Raman spectroscopy revealed that lattice-distorted NiFe LDHs (D-NiFe LDHs) stabilize the ß-NiOOH phase under the OER conditions. Consequently, D-NiFe LDHs exhibited low OER overpotentials (209 and 276 mV for 10 and 500 mA cm-2, respectively), along with a modest Tafel slope (33.4 mV dec-1). Moreover, D-NiFe LDHs demonstrated excellent stability at 500 mA cm-2 for 50 h, indicating that the lattice distortion of the LDHs is irreversible. The intercalation-induced lattice strain reported in this study can provide a general strategy to enhance the activity of electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

Highly active, stable, and low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts are urgently needed for the realization of large-scale industrial hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) stand out as one of the most promising nonprecious electrocatalysts worth pursuing. Here, a hierarchical heterogeneous Ni2+Fe3+@Ni2+Fe2+ LDH was successfully synthesized via a sequential electrodeposition technique using separate electrolytes containing iron precursors with different valence states (Fe2+, Fe3+). The underlying highly crystalline Ni2+Fe2+ LDH nanosheet array provides a large surface for the catalytically more active Ni2+Fe3+ LDH overlayer with low crystallinity. The resulting Ni2+Fe3+@Ni2+Fe2+ LDH demonstrates excellent OER activity with overpotentials of 218 and 265 mV to reach current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm-2, respectively, as well as good long-term stability for 30 h even at a high current density of 500 mA cm-2. In an overall water splitting, an electrolyzer using an electrocatalyst of Sn4P3/CoP2 as a cathode requires only a cell voltage of 1.55 V at 10 mA cm-2. Furthermore, the solar-powered overall water splitting system consisting of our electrolyzer and a perovskite/Si tandem solar cell exhibits a high solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 15.3%.

RESUMO

Rationale: Stress is a major risk factor for the development of depression. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of stress vulnerability in depression are largely uncharacterized. Methods: P2X2 receptors (a major receptor for gliotransmitter-ATP) in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) were identified by real-time qPCR, western blots and RNAscope in situ hybridization in chronic social defeat stress model (CSDS). We generated P2X2 conditional knockout mice and overexpressed AAV-P2X2 in CamkIIα-Cre mice. The depression-like behaviors were assessed via CSDS, subthreshold social defeat stress (SSDS), social interaction test (SI), forced interaction test (FIT), forced swimming test (FST), sucrose preference test (SPT), novel stressed feeding (NSF) and open field test (OFT). The neuronal activity and synapse function of P2X2 receptors in the mPFC were detected by in vivo fiber-photometry, patch-clamp techniques and neuronal morphometric analysis. Results: We identified that P2X2 receptors were increased in the mPFC of susceptible mice in CSDS. Conditional knockout of P2X2 receptors in pyramidal neurons promoted resilience of chronic stress-induced depressive-like behaviors, whereas pyramidal neurons - specific gain of P2X2 in the mPFC increased vulnerability to depressive-like behaviors. In vivo fiber-photometry, electrophysiology and neuronal morphometric analysis showed P2X2 receptors regulated neuronal activity and synapse function in the mPFC. Conclusions: Overall, our studies reveal a critical role of P2X2 in mediating vulnerability to chronic stress and identify P2X2 as a potential therapeutic target for treatment of stress-related mood disorders.

RESUMO

Among the number of hyperthermia materials, magnetic nanoparticles have received much attention. In this work, we studied the heating characteristics of uniform Fe@Fe3O4 core-shell nanoparticle under near-infrared laser irradiation and external AC magnetic field applying. The Fe@Fe3O4 core-shell nanoparticles were prepared by thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl and followed by controlled oxidation. The prepared uniform particles were further coated with dimercaptosuccinic acid to make them well dispersed in water. Near-infrared derived photothermal study of solutions containing a different concentration of the core-shell nanoparticles was made by using 808 nm laser Source. Additionally, magnetic hyperthermia ability of the Fe@Fe3O4 nanoparticle at 150 kHz and various oersted (140-180 Oe) condition was systemically characterized. The Fe@Fe3O4 nanoparticles which exhibited effective photo and magnetic hyperthermia are expected to be used in biomedical application.

RESUMO

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized by a facile and green pyrolysis method. The as-prepared CQDs show wide light absorption, tunable downconversion photoluminescence (PL) properties and excellent "upconversion" luminescence properties. CQDs were used to design the TiO2/CdS/C photoelectrodes for photoelectrochemical hydrogen evolution. The role of the CQDs was investigated based on the TiO2/CdS/C photoelectrodes. The results reveal that CQDs can enhance light-harvesting efficiency and improve their charge separation and transfer properties when coupled with conventional QD-sensitized photoelectrodes. Nevertheless, the contribution of "upconversion" luminescence of CQDs to the enhanced photoelectrochemical performance is negligible.

RESUMO

As a promising anodic material for rechargeable batteries, Sb2O3 has drawn increasing attention due to its high theoretical capacity and abundant natural deposits. However, poor cyclability and rate performance of Sb2O3 derived from a large volume change during insertion/desertion reactions as well as a sluggish kinetic process restrict its practical application. Herein, we report a facile amorphous-to-crystalline strategy to synthesize a densely packed Sb2O3 nanosheet-graphene aerogel as a novel anode for sodium ion batteries (SIBs). This Sb2O3/graphene composite displays a reversible capacity as high as 657.9 mA h g-1 even after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g-1, along with an excellent rate capacity of 356.8 mA h g-1 at 5.0 A g-1. The superior electrochemical performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of densely packed Sb2O3 nanosheets and graphene aerogel, which serves as both a robust support and stable buffer layer to maintain the structural stability of the nanocomposite, and enhances the electrode kinetics of electrolyte diffusion and electron transfer simultaneously. Hence, this densely-packed two-dimensional Sb2O3 nanosheet-graphene aerogel can be a promising anode material for rechargeable SIBs due to its facile synthesis process and outstanding electrochemical performance.

RESUMO

Currently, the development of semiconducting metal oxide (SMO)-based gas sensors with innovative modification and three-dimensional (3D) structural designs has become a significant scientific interest due to their potential for addressing key technological challenges. Herein, gas sensing devices based on the 3D hierarchical monoclinic-type structural Sb-doped WO3 (HMSW) gas sensing material were successfully constructed by ordered assembly of urchin-like monoclinic-type structural (P2/m) Sb-doped WO2.72 (W18O49) (UMSW) nanocrystals and nanowires. The crystalline microstructure, composition, morphological characteristics, and possible growth mechanisms were systematically investigated. The results of the gas sensor measurements, performed simultaneously on multiple samples, indicated that the 3D HMSW material has superior sensitivity (S = 122) and high selectivity to ppm-level NO2 at 30 °C with a significantly larger response than the best-reported values from other WO3-based gas sensors fabricated so far. All the results clearly demonstrate that the combined effects of abundant structural defects derived from Sb doping modification, reduced band gap, and 3D hierarchical microstructure synergistically play a key role in the NO2 gas sensing performance. Such excellent gas sensing performance foresees the great potential application of 3D hierarchical structural WO3-based sensors for fast and effective detection of toxic gases that can aid in human health and public safety.
