RESUMO

Soybean (Glycine max) productivity is significantly reduced by drought stress. Breeders are aiming to improve soybean grain yields both under well-watered (WW) and drought-stressed (DS) conditions, however, little is known about the genetic architecture of yield-related traits. Here, a panel of 188 soybean germplasm was used in a genome wide association study (GWAS) to identify single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers linked to yield-related traits including pod number per plant (PN), biomass per plant (BM) and seed weight per plant (SW). The SLAF-seq genotyping was conducted on the population and three phenotype traits were examined in WW and DS conditions in four environments. Based on best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) data and individual environmental analyses, 39 SNPs were significantly associated with three soybean traits under two conditions, which were tagged to 26 genomic regions by linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis. Of these, six QTLs qPN-WW19.1, qPN-DS8.8, qBM-WW1, qBM-DS17.4, qSW-WW4 and qSW-DS8 were identified controlling PN, BM and SW of soybean. There were larger proportions of favorable haplotypes for locus qPN-WW19.1 and qSW-WW4 rather than qBM-WW1, qBM-DS17.4, qPN-DS8.8 and qSW-DS8 in both landraces and improved cultivars. In addition, several putative candidate genes such as Glyma.19G211300, Glyma.17G057100 and Glyma.04G124800, encoding E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase BAH1, WRKY transcription factor 11 and protein zinc induced facilitator-like 1, respectively, were predicted. We propose that the further exploration of these locus will facilitate accelerating breeding for high-yield soybean cultivars.

To estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and metabolic components and their associated factors and component combinations according to hypertension status in Tibetans living at high altitude. Multistage sampling of 1473 participants (799 hypertensive patients and 674 normotensive subjects). MS prevalence and the number of metabolic components ≥ 3 were significantly higher in the hypertensive than normotensives. In hypertensive patients, the most common component was central obesity and it combined with: high blood pressure, in those with 2 risk factors, plus fasting hyperglycemia, in those with 3 risk factors, and high triglyceride, in those with 4 risk factors. In normotensive subjects, the most common single component was low high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, and most component combination included central obesity and hyperglycemia in those with 2 risk factors, plus high blood pressure in those with 3 risk factors, and high triglycerides in those with 4 risk factors. Body mass index and female both were associated with increased possibilities of MS in hypertensive and normotensive participants. Low incoming, and high educational levels were associated with an elevated probability of MS in normotensive Tibetans also. The priority of prevention from cardiovascular diseases by targeting metabolic components in the hypertensive was different from normotensives. Different MS components had various lifestyle and socioeconomic factors.

(1) Background: To review the associated factors of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. (2) Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and four Chinese electronic databases were searched for observational studies that reported the associated factors of sarcopenia from inception to August 2021. Two researchers independently selected the literature, evaluated their quality, and extracted relevant data. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for each associated factors of sarcopenia using random-effects/fixed-effects models. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot and the Eggers test. We performed statistical analysis using Stata 15.0 software. (3) Results: A total of 68 studies comprising 98,502 cases were included. Sociodemographic associated factors of sarcopenia among community-dwelling older adults included age (OR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.10-1.13), marital status (singled, divorced, or widowed) (OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.08-2.28), disability for activities of daily living (ADL) (OR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.15-1.92), and underweight (OR = 3.78, 95% CI: 2.55-5.60). Behavioral associated factors included smoking (OR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.10-1.21), physical inactivity (OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.48-2.01), malnutrition/malnutrition risk (OR = 2.99, 95% CI: 2.40-3.72), long (OR = 2.30, 95% CI: 1.37-3.86) and short (OR = 3.32, 95% CI: 1.86-5.93) sleeping time, and living alone (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.00-2.40). Disease-related associated factors included diabetes (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 1.18-1.66), cognitive impairment (OR = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.05-2.51), heart diseases (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.00-1.30), respiratory diseases (OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.09-1.36), osteopenia/osteoporosis (OR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.63-4.57), osteoarthritis (OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.23-1.44), depression (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.17-1.83), falls (OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.14-1.44), anorexia (OR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.14-1.96), and anemia (OR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.06-1.82). However, it remained unknown whether gender (female: OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 0.80-1.51; male: OR = 1.50, 95% CI: 0.96-2.34), overweight/obesity (OR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.17-0.44), drinking (OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.84-1.01), hypertension (OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.84-1.14), hyperlipidemia (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 0.89-1.47), stroke (OR = 1.70, 95% CI: 0.69-4.17), cancer (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85-0.92), pain (OR = 1.08, 95% CI: 0.98-1.20), liver disease (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85-0.91), and kidney disease (OR = 2.52, 95% CI: 0.19-33.30) were associated with sarcopenia. (4) Conclusions: There are many sociodemographic, behavioral, and disease-related associated factors of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. Our view provides evidence for the early identification of high-risk individuals and the development of relevant interventions to prevent sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults.

BACKGROUND: Drought is a major limiting factor seriously influencing worldwide soybean production and its impact on yield, morphological and physiological traits depend on the timing it occurs and the intensity of water shortage. Only limited research has however been conducted on identifying the drought-tolerant genotypes at different growth stages (vegetative growth phase, reproductive growth phase and the whole growth phase) as well as evaluate the effectiveness and reliability of multiple phenotypic and yield-related characteristics in soybean. RESULTS: Two pot experiments and a 2-year field experiment were conducted to evaluate soybean drought tolerance at different growth stages. The membership function value of drought tolerance (MFVD) was used to identify drought-resistant cultivars during vegetative growth phase and reproductive growth stage; the relative drought index (RDI) of yield was used to assess drought-resistant cultivars during the whole growing period. In this study, regression models built based on MFVD indicated that the variation of drought tolerant coefficient (DC) of R/S, TRL, LAI and RSR could explain 73.70% of the total variation at vegetative growth phase. However, higher heritability only found in LAI and RSR, indicating the two traits could serve as reliable criteria for drought evaluation. Similarly, the DC of SPP, YPP, PH, PB, MSNN and STB could explain 94.30% of the total variation in MFVD according to stepwise multiple linear regression analyses at reproductive growth phase. Thus, these six traits were identified as indicators for screening drought resistance genotypes in soybean. In addition, correlation analysis revealed that the MFVD was significantly positively correlated with the DCRB, DCR/S, DCRSA, DCRSR and DCRBR at vegetative growth phase and DCYPP, DCSPP, DCRB, and DCPB at reproductive growth phase. This indicated that these traits were closely related to the drought resistance of plants. CONCLUSIONS: LD24, JD36 and TF31 of vegetative growth phase, and TD37 and LD26 of reproductive growth phase were identified with drought tolerant and highly drought tolerant, respectively. Moreover, 30 accessions with drought tolerance were screened in the field trial and could be applied for the drought resistance of other genotypes by cross-breeding.
