RESUMO

A compressible numerical model is applied for three-dimensional (3-D) gravity wave (GW) packets undergoing momentum deposition, self-acceleration (SA), breaking, and secondary GW (SGW) generation in the presence of highly-structured environments enabling thermal and/or Doppler ducts, such as a mesospheric inversion layer (MIL), tidal wind (TW), or combination of MIL and TW. Simulations reveal that ducts can strongly modulate GW dynamics. Responses modeled here include reflection, trapping, suppressed transmission, strong local instabilities, reduced SGW generations, higher altitude SGW responses, and induced large-scale flows. Instabilities that arise in ducts experience strong dissipation after they emerge, while trapped smaller-amplitude and smaller-scale GWs can survive in ducts to much later times. Additionally, GW breaking and its associated dynamics enhance the local wind along the GW propagation direction in the ducts, and yield layering in the wind field. However, these dynamics do not yield significant heat transport in the ducts. The failure of GW breaking to induce stratified layers in the temperature field suggests that such heat transport might not be as strong as previously assumed or inferred from observations and theoretical assessments. The present numerical simulations confirm previous finding that MIL generation may not be caused by the breaking of a transient high-frequency GW packet alone.

RESUMO

We describe a pure rotational Raman lidar for measuring the all-day temperature profiles in the lower troposphere. The lidar is made up of a frequency-tripled Nd:YAG laser at 354.82 nm with ∼250mJ pulse energy at the 30 Hz repetition rate, a 200 mm receiving telescope, and narrow-band interference-filter-based detection optics. The lidar performance is shown by measured examples. Under clear sky conditions, with an integration time of 60 min and a vertical resolution of 90 m, the 1-σ statistical uncertainty does not exceed 1 K up to the altitude of ∼4.1km during nighttime, while the corresponding altitude is ∼2.3km at noon. The diurnal temperature variation characteristics have been revealed by the lidar measurements with the 1-σ statistical uncertainty <1K between altitudes ranging from 0.6 to ∼2.0km at Wuhan, China (30.53°N, 114.37°E). The atmospheric temperature shows a strong diurnal oscillation and moderate semidiurnal oscillation at altitudes 0-1.4 km for two days in July 2019 (July period), 0-1.4 km for four days in September 2019 (September period), and 0-0.8 km for three days in January 2018 (January period), respectively. The mean diurnal and semidiurnal amplitudes of the nine days are respectively ∼1.4K and ∼0.5K at the 0.6 km altitude, while the corresponding surface values are ∼4.2K and ∼1.4K, respectively. The diurnal amplitudes tend to weaken with increasing altitude. At altitudes >0.6km, the diurnal amplitude in the September period is less than that in the July period, but greater than that in the January period. The phase delays of the diurnal oscillations are ∼3h in the July period, 5-6 h in the September period, and 5-7 h in the January period compared to those at the surface, respectively. Both the diurnal amplitudes and phase delays indicate a possible seasonal dependence.

RESUMO

Change in electrical conductivity is considered a potential indicator for the on-line monitoring of wine aging accelerated by ultrasound, as determined in our previous study; however, the exact mechanism of change is currently unclear. In this study, the ion content and the total ionic strength were analyzed by ion-exchange chromatography to investigate the change mechanism of the electrical conductivity of wine under ultrasound irradiation. The results indicate that the changes in wine electrical conductivity during ultrasound treatment correlate with the changes in the cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and NH4+) and in the anions from the organic acids (malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, oxalic acid, and formic acid) and inorganic acids (Cl-, SO42-, and PO43-), especially for the ionic strength of the wine. Overall, electrical conductivity may be used to reflect the chemical reactions related to wine aging to a certain extent because the reactions can be initiated by the conversion of cations and by the degradation or auxiliary function of organic acids.

RESUMO

In this paper, the antioxidant capacities and compositions of two commercialized tea products and extracts from Fuzhuan brick tea (FBT) were investigated using three HPLC methods comparing the retention times of injected standards. Principal component analysis and DPPH-spiking HPLC analysis were used to analyze correlation between antioxidant capacity and the compounds detected to screen which compounds contribute to antioxidant activity. Results indicated that all samples contained high amounts of polysaccharides, phenols, and flavonoids and had good antioxidant activity and a high level of correlation among them. Furthermore, gallic acid, epigallocatechin, epicatechin, and epigallocatechin gallate were screened and found to be stronger antioxidant candidates. In summary, the quality of the FBT extracts was not inferior to that of commercialized tea products, suggesting the feasibility that extracts may directly act as instant tea products.
