RESUMO

Affinity and storage capacity for zinc ions of the electrode materials are crucial factors on the properties of zinc ion hybrid capacitors (ZHICs). Wasted pulping liquor with abundant carbohydrates, lignin and inorganic matter served as a unique precursor to produce embedded oxygen-doped hierarchical porous carbon directly through a one-step carbonization process in this investigation. In carbonization process, lignin can serve effectively as the carbon framework, carbohydrates not only act as sacrificial templates but also offer a plentiful oxygen source which can increase the affinity for Zn2+, and sodium-containing inorganic substances plays a role as hard templates to optimize the pore structure. The resulting porous carbon under carbonization temperature of 800 °C shows a high specifical area of 2186 m2g-1 with oxygen content of 4.8 %, which can reduce the adsorption energy of Zn2+ from -0.16 eV to -0.32 eV through electrochemical techniques and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the incorporation of oxygen was demonstrated to enhance the adsorption and desorption kinetics of Zn2+, suggesting a bright future for application in the domain of energy storage. The resulting ZIHC assembly showcases a notable energy density of 84.6 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 359 W kg-1. Remarkably, even after 10,000 charge and discharge cycles, it exhibits exceptional cycle stability with retaining 86.56 % of its capacity. Consequently, this approach provides fresh insights for exploring the facile and commercial fabrication of biomass-derived cathodes for ZIHCs, thereby propelling the progress of eco-friendly energy storage devices.

RESUMO

In this paper, a novel, simple and mild soft template assisted strategy and further carbonization approach has been constructed to the size-tunable preparation of porous Cu-N-C/Surfactant catalysts successfully. Note that the pluronic F127 has a significant influence on the synthesis of porous Cu-N-C/F127 with the atomically dispersed Cu-N4 and adjacent Cu atomic clusters (ACs) than other surfactants owing to their particular non-ionic structure. By combining a series of experimental analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the synergistic effects between the adjacent Cu ACs and atomically dispersed Cu-N4 are favorable for manipulating the binding energy of O2 adsorption and intermediates desorption at the atomic interface of catalysts, resulting in an excellent electrocatalytic ORR performance with a faster kinetics for Cu-N-C/F127 than those of the Cu-N-C, Cu-N-C/CTAB, Cu-N-C/SDS, and comparable with the commercial Pt/C catalyst. This method not only provides a novel approach for synthesizing highly effective copper based single atom catalysts toward ORR, but also offers an in-depth understanding of the synergisms of adjacent ACs on the Cu single atoms (SAs) for highly effective electrocatalytic ORR and Zn-air Battery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: GPR65 (G protein-coupled receptor 65) can sense extracellular acidic environment to regulate pathophysiological processes. Pretreatment with the GPR65 agonist BTB09089 has been proven to produce neuroprotection in acute ischemic stroke. However, whether delayed BTB09089 treatment and neuronal GPR65 activation promote neurorestoration remains unknown. METHODS: Ischemic stroke was induced in wild-type (WT) or GPR65 knockout (GPR65-/-) mice by photothrombotic ischemia. Male mice were injected intraperitoneally with BTB09089 every other day at days 3, 7, or 14 poststroke. AAV-Syn-GPR65 (adenoassociated virus-synapsin-GPR65) was utilized to overexpress GPR65 in the peri-infarct cortical neurons of GPR65-/- and WT mice. Motor function was monitored by grid-walk and cylinder tests. The neurorestorative effects of BTB09089 were observed by immunohistochemistry, Golgi-Cox staining, and Western blotting. RESULTS: BTB09089 significantly promoted motor outcomes in WT but not in GPR65-/- mice, even when BTB09089 was delayed for 3 to 7 days. BTB09089 inhibited the activation of microglia and glial scar progression in WT but not in GPR65-/- mice. Meanwhile, BTB09089 reduced the decrease in neuronal density in WT mice, but this benefit was abolished in GPR65-/- mice and reemerged by overexpressing GPR65 in peri-infarct cortical neurons. Furthermore, BTB09089 increased the GAP43 (growth-associated protein-43) and synaptophysin puncta density, dendritic spine density, dendritic branch length, and dendritic complexity by overexpressing GPR65 in the peri-infarct cortical neurons of GPR65-/- mice, which was accompanied by increased levels of p-CREB (phosphorylated cAMP-responsive element-binding protein). In addition, the therapeutic window of BTB09089 was extended to day 14 by overexpressing GPR65 in the peri-infarct cortical neurons of WT mice. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that delayed BTB09089 treatment improved neurological functional recovery and brain tissue repair poststroke through activating neuronal GRP65. GPR65 overexpression may be a potential strategy to expand the therapeutic time window of GPR65 agonists for neurorehabilitation after ischemic stroke.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study investigated the potential of a commercially available plastic scintillator, the Exradin W2, as a real-time dosimeter for ultra-high-dose-rate (UHDR) electron beams. This work aimed to characterize this system's performance under UHDR conditions and addressed limitations inherent to other conventional dosimetry systems. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We assessed the W2's performance as a UHDR electron dosimeter using a 16 MeV UHDR electron beam from the FLASH research extension (FLEX) system. Additionally, the vendor provided a beta firmware upgrade to better handle the processing of the high signal generated in the UHDR environment. We evaluated the W2 regarding dose-per-pulse, pulse repetition rate, charge versus distance, and pulse linearity. Absorbed dose measurements were compared against those from a plane-parallel ionization chamber, optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters and radiochromic film. RESULTS: We observed that the 1 × 1 mm W2 scintillator with the MAX SD was more suitable for UHDR dosimetry compared to the 1 × 3 mm W2 scintillator, capable of matching film measurements within 2% accuracy for dose-per-pulse up to 3.6 Gy/pulse. The W2 accurately ascertained the inverse square relationship regarding charge versus virtual source distance with R2 of ∼1.00 for all channels. Pulse linearity was accurately measured with the W2, demonstrating a proportional response to the delivered pulse number. There was no discernible impact on the measured charge of the W2 when switching between the available repetition rates of the FLEX system (18-180 pulses/s), solidifying consistent beam output across pulse frequencies. CONCLUSIONS: This study tested a commercial plastic scintillator detector in a UHDR electron beam, paving the way for its potential use as a real-time, patient-specific dosimetry tool for future FLASH radiotherapy treatments. Further research is warranted to test and improve the signal processing of the W2 dosimetry system to accurately measure in UHDR environments using exceedingly high dose-per-pulse and pulse numbers.

RESUMO

The existence of Virtual Reality Motion Sickness (VRMS) is a key factor restricting the further development of the VR industry, and the premise to solve this problem is to be able to accurately and effectively detect its occurrence. In view of the current lack of high-accuracy and effective detection methods, this paper proposes a VRMS detection method based on entropy asymmetry and cross-frequency coupling value asymmetry of EEG. First of all, the EEG of the four selected pairs of electrodes on the bilateral brain are subjected to Multivariate Variational Mode Decomposition (MVMD) respectively, and three types of entropy values on the low-frequency and high-frequency components are calculated, namely approximate entropy, fuzzy entropy and permutation entropy, as well as three types of phase-amplitude coupling features between the low-frequency and high-frequency components, namely the mean value, standard deviation and correlation coefficient; Secondly, the difference of the entropies and the cross-frequency coupling features between the left electrodes and the right electrodes are calculated; Finally, the final feature set are selected via t-test and fed into the SVM for classification, thus realizing the automatic detection of VRMS. The results show that the three classification indexes under this method, i.e., accuracy, sensitivity and specificity, reach 99.5 %, 99.3 % and 99.7 %, respectively, and the value of the area under the ROC curve reached 1, which proves that this method can be an effective indicator for detecting the occurrence of VRMS.

RESUMO

As the incidence of endometrial cancer (EC) and atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) has been increasing, and has shown young trend. It is crucial to study the fertility-preserving treatment of endometrial lesions and fertility-promoting protocols. Age, obesity, and irregular ovulation are not only high-risk factors for endometrial lesions but also key factors affecting female fertility. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) can significantly improve pregnancy outcomes in patients with AEH and EC after conservative treatment. Based on the existing studies, this article reviews the progress of research on pregnancy outcomes of ART and its influencing factors in such patients. It helps physicians in providing optimal fertility guidance.

RESUMO

Pillar-layered metal-organic frameworks (PLMOFs) are promising gas adsorbents due to their high designability. In this work, high CO2 storage capacity as well as controllable C2H2/CO2 separation ability are acquired by rationally manipulating the interlayer stacking in pillar-layered MOF materials. The rational construction of pillar-layered MOFs started from the 2D Ni-BTC-pyridine layer, an isomorphic structure of pioneering MOF-1 reported in 1995. The replacement of terminal pyridine groups by bridging pyrazine linkers under optimized solvothermal conditions led to three 3D PLMOFs with different stacking types between adjacent Ni-BTC layers, named PLMOF 1 (ABAB stacking), PLMOF 2 (AABB stacking), and PLMOF 3 (AAAA stacking). Regulated by the layer arrangements, CO2 and C2H2 adsorption capacities (273 K and 1 bar) of PLMOFs 1-3 vary from 173.0/153.3, 185.0/162.4, to 203.5/159.5 cm3 g-1, respectively, which surpass the values of most MOF adsorbents. Dynamic breakthrough experiments further indicate that PLMOFs 1-3 have controllable C2H2/CO2 separation performance, which can successfully overcome the C2H2/CO2 separation challenge. Specially, PLMOFs 1-3 can remove trace CO2 (3%) from the C2H2/CO2 mixture and produce high-purity ethylene (99.9%) in one step with the C2H2 productivities of 1.68, 2.45, and 3.30 mmol g-1, respectively. GCMC simulations indicate that the superior CO2 adsorption and unique C2H2/CO2 separation performance are mainly ascribed to different degrees of CO2 agglomeration in the ultramicropores of these PLMOFs.

RESUMO

Highly active catalysts with salt and acid/alkali resistance are desired in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation processes and marine environment applications. F- and Cl-doped graphene (F-GN and Cl-GN) were prepared via electronegative and atom radius adjustment for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) pollution removal to satisfy these requirements. The introduction of special F and Cl functionalities into graphene exhibits superior electron transfer properties for PMS activation, considering the experimental and density functional theory (DFT) calculation results. The TCH degradation efficiency reached up to 80% under various pH and salt disturbance conditions with F-GN and Cl-GN. Cl-GN exhibited an activity superior to F-GN due to the higher electron polarization effect of C atoms adjacent to Cl atoms. The presence of more positive charged C sites in Cl-GN (around Cl doping) is more favorable for PMS attachment and sequence radical generation than F-GN. In addition, the main active species functionalized during reaction included ·OH and SO4-·, and the stability of F-GN and Cl-GN was confirmed to be over 60% by recycle test. Final research results provide an effective strategy for designing and preparing PMS activators resistant to salt, acid, and alkali, thereby expanding their application potential.

RESUMO

To explore the role of YAP, a key effector of the Hippo pathway, in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. The temporal and spatial expression of YAP was detected via immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunohistochemistry on postoperative Days 1, 4, 7, 9, 11, 14 and 28 in a sheep model. Isolated mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from samples of the Day 14. The relative mRNA expression of YAP was examined before and after the osteogenic induction of MSCs. A YAP-silenced MSC model was constructed, and the effect of YAP knockdown on MSC function was examined. YAP is expressed in the nucleus of the key sites that determine the ankylosis formation, indicating that YAP is activated in a physiological state. The expression of YAP increased gradually over time. Moreover, the number of cells coexpressing of RUNX2 and YAP-with the osteogenic active zone labelled by RUNX2-tended to increase after Day 9. After the osteogenic induction of MSCs, the expression of YAP increased. After silencing YAP, the osteogenic, proliferative and migratory abilities of the MSCs were inhibited. YAP is involved in the early development of TMJ bony ankylosis. Inhibition of YAP using shRNA might be a promising way to prevent or treat TMJ ankylosis.

RESUMO

Populus euphratica is an important tree species in the arid regions of Northwest China, which is sensitive to climate changes. Climate of the Northwest China is changing to be "warm and humid", but how it would affect the regional forest growth is not clear. In this study, the radial growth response of P. euphratica to major climatic factors and their temporal changes during 1984-2021 were analyzed by using dendrochronology method in the desert oasis ecotone of Cele in the southern Tarim basin. The results showed that tree-ring width index of P. euphratica had a significant negative correlation with temperature in September of the previous year, and in February and May of current year, had significant positive correlation with precipitation in September of previous year and March and May of current year, and had significant positive correlations with SPEI in February and May of current year. The relationships between tree-ring width index and combined month climatic factors were more obvious. The results of moving correlation analysis showed that the correlation between tree-ring width index and temperature in the growing season tended to be strengthened in recent years, while the correlation between tree-ring width index and precipitation, SPEI tended to be declined or remain stable. The variations of the relationships between tree-ring width index and combined month climatic factors were more obvious compared that with single month. Current regional climate is conducive to the growth and development, as well as the improvement of ecological shelter function of P. euphratica forest in the desert oasis ecotone of Cele.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the effectiveness of ovarian function suppression (OFS) of various gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) combined with aromatase inhibitors (AI) in premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR-positive) breast cancer. Potential risk factors associated with insufficient OFS were analyzed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Premenopausal HR-positive breast cancer patients who had received AI with GnRHa were studied retrospectively. Patients were divided into different groups according to monthly or trimonthly GnRHa schedules they received, and the effectiveness of OFS was compared between groups. Insufficient OFS was defined as at least one instance of estradiol ≥ 30 pg/ml. Patient data was gathered from medical records for this comparison. RESULTS: Of the 264 patients enrolled in this study, 117 were administered 3.6 mg of goserelin monthly (goserelin 1 M group), 63 received 3.75 mg of leuprorelin monthly (leuprorelin 1 M group) and 84 were given 11.25 mg of leuprorelin every three months (leuprorelin 3 M group). Overall, 7.20% experienced insufficient OFS. The incidence rates in the three GnRHa depot groups were 7.69%, 6.35%, and 7.14%, respectively, without a significant statistical difference (P = 0.900). Notably, younger patients exhibited a higher likelihood of insufficient OFS [OR = 0.900, 95%CI (0.824-0.982), P = 0.018]. CONCLUSION: Insufficient OFS remains a concern during GnRHa and AI treatment. The effectiveness of the three GnRHa depots commonly used in China seems comparable. Younger patients face a heightened risk of insufficient OFS.

RESUMO

Adsorption is one of the most efficient methods for remediating industrial recalcitrant wastewater due to its simple design and low investment cost. However, the conventional adsorbents used in adsorption have several limitations, including high cost, low removal rates, secondary waste generation, and low regeneration ability. Hence, the focus of the research has shifted to developing alternative low-cost green adsorbents from renewable resources such as biomass. In this regard, the recent progress in the modification of biomass-derived adsorbents, which are rich in cellulosic content, through a variety of techniques, including chemical, physical, and thermal processes, has been critically reviewed in this paper. In addition, the practical applications of raw and modified biomass-based adsorbents for the treatment of industrial wastewater are discussed extensively. In a nutshell, the adsorption mechanism, particularly for real wastewater, and the effects of various modifications on biomass-based adsorbents have yet to be thoroughly studied, despite the extensive research efforts devoted to their innovation. Therefore, this review provides insight into future research needed in wastewater treatment utilizing biomass-based adsorbents, as well as the possibility of commercializing biomass-based adsorbents into viable products.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of noncoding small RNA that can interact with PIWI-like RNA-mediated gene silencing (PIWIL) proteins to affect biological processes such as transposon silencing through epigenetic effects. Recent studies have found that piRNAs are widely dysregulated in tumors and associated with tumor progression and a poor prognosis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of piR-1919609 on the proliferation, apoptosis, and drug resistance of ovarian cancer cells. METHODS: In this study, we used small RNA sequencing to screen and identify differentially expressed piRNAs in primary ovarian cancer, recurrent ovarian cancer, and normal ovaries. A large-scale verification study was performed to verify the expression of piR-1919609 in different types of ovarian tissue, including ovarian cancer tissue and normal ovaries, by RT-PCR and to analyze its association with the clinical prognosis of ovarian cancer. The expression of PIWILs in ovarian cancer was verified by RT-PCR, Western blotting and immunofluorescence. The effects of piR-1919609 on ovarian cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis and drug resistance were studied through in vitro and in vivo models. RESULTS: (1) piR-1919609 was highly expressed in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer tissues (p < 0.05), and this upregulation was significantly associated with a poor prognosis and a shorter recurrence time in ovarian cancer patients (p < 0.05). (2) PIWIL2 was strongly expressed in ovarian cancer tissues (p < 0.05). It was expressed both in the cytoplasm and nucleus of ovarian cancer cells. (3) Overexpression of piR-1919609 promoted ovarian cancer cell proliferation, inhibited apoptosis, and promoted tumor growth in nude mice. (4) Inhibition of piR-1919609 effectively reversed ovarian cancer drug resistance. CONCLUSION: In summary, we showed that piR-1919609 is involved in the regulation of drug resistance in ovarian cancer cells and might be an ideal potential target for reversing platinum resistance in ovarian cancer.

RESUMO

Objective: The Obturator Functioning Scale (OFS) is a scale without formal measures of validity in any language. This study aimed to translate and adapt the OFS from English to Chinese and check its reliability and validity in Chinese-speaking patients with obturator prostheses after cancer-related maxillectomy. Methods: The 15-item Chinese preversion of the OFS was completed by 133 patients in three tertiary stomatological hospitals. Of these, 41 completed it again one week after the first measurement. The patients also completed the Chinese version of the University of Washington quality of life scale (UW-QOL, Version 4). Results: Item 12 ("upper lip feels numb") was deleted to achieve a better statistical fit. The 14-item Chinese version of the OFS (OFS-Ch) demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.908). The test-retest reliability coefficients for most items exceeded 0.90, indicating substantial reproducibility. Confirmatory factor analysis found that the scale consisted of three correlated factors: 1) eating (four items), 2) speech (five items), and 3) other problems (five items). This explained 70.2 % of the total variance using exploratory factor analysis. The scale was significantly convergent and discriminant and could validly discriminate between patients with Brown I and IId maxillary defects. Conclusions: Our results showed that the OFS-Ch scale is a valid tool for evaluating oral dysfunction and satisfaction with appearance for patients with the obturator prosthesis and identifying those at risk of poor obturator function in clinical settings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Virtual reality motion sickness (VRMS) is a key issue hindering the development of virtual reality technology, and accurate detection of its occurrence is the first prerequisite for solving the issue. OBJECTIVE: In this paper, a convolutional neural network (CNN) EEG detection model based on multi-scale feature correlation is proposed for detecting VRMS. METHODS: The model uses multi-scale 1D convolutional layers to extract multi-scale temporal features from the multi-lead EEG data, and then calculates the feature correlations of the extracted multi-scale features among all the leads to form the feature adjacent matrixes, which converts the time-domain features to correlation-based brain network features, thus strengthen the feature representation. Finally, the correlation features of each layer are fused. The fused features are then fed into the channel attention module to filter the channels and classify them using a fully connected network. Finally, we recruit subjects to experience 6 different modes of virtual roller coaster scenes, and collect resting EEG data before and after the task to verify the model. RESULTS: The results show that the accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score of this model for the recognition of VRMS are 98.66 %, 98.65 %, 98.68 %, and 98.66 %, respectively. The proposed model outperforms the current classic and advanced EEG recognition models. SIGNIFICANCE: It shows that this model can be used for the recognition of VRMS based on the resting state EEG.

RESUMO

Coacervate microdroplets, a protocell model in exploring the origin of life, have gained significant attention. Clay minerals, catalysts during the origin of life, are crucial in the chemical evolution of small molecules into biopolymers. However, our understanding of the relationship between clay minerals and the formation and evolution of protocells on early Earth remains limited. In this work, the nanoclay montmorillonite nanosheet (MMT-Na) was employed to investigate its interaction with coacervate microdroplets formed by oligolysine (K10) and adenine nucleoside triphosphate (ATP). As an anionic component, MMT-Na was noted to promote the formation of coacervate microdroplets. Furthermore, the efficiency of ssDNA enrichment and the degree of ssDNA hybridization within these microdroplets were significantly improved. By combining inorganic nanoclay with organic biopolymers, our work provides an efficient way to enrich genetic biomolecules in the primitive Earth environment and builds a nanoclay-based coacervate microdroplets, shedding new light on life's origin and protocell evolution.

RESUMO

Edible bird's nest (EBN), a most highly priced and valuable foodstuff, contains high percentage of proteins and carbohydrates. However, proteins adhering to these carbohydrates make the EBN hard and tough, which need to be boiled as the bird's nest soup to make the Chinese cuisine. To overcome the hard and tough texture of EBN and improve the digestion degrees, the present study screened and identified a probiotic strain Bacillus amyloliquefaciens YZW02 from 5-year stored EBN sample completely solubilizing EBN for the first time. The 24-h B. amyloliquefaciens fermented EBN contained 20.30-21.48 mg/mL of the soluble protein contents with a recovery rate of 98-100%, DPPH radical scavenging rate of 84.76% and ABTS radical scavenging capacity of 41.05%. The mixed fermentation of B. amyloliquefaciens YZW02 and Bacillus natto BN1 were further applied to improve the low-MW peptide percentages and antioxidant activities. The mixed-fermentation of B. natto BN1 with 4-h cultured B. amyloliquefaciens YZW02 had the lowest percentage (82.23%) of >12-kDa proteins/peptides and highest percentages of 3-12 kDa, 1-3 kDa and 0.1-1 kDa peptides of 8.6% ± 0.08, 7.57% ± 0.09, 1.77% ± 0.05 and 0.73% ± 0.05, with the highest DPPH, ABTS and •OH scavenging capacity of 90.23%, 46.45% and 49.12%, respectively. These findings would provide an efficient strategy for improving the solubility and antioxidant activities of EBNs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that occurs at higher rates in young women. Evidence suggests that SLE may be associated with ovarian dysfunction. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the possible effects of SLE on ovarian reserve function. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases were searched from inception to July 2023 to identify studies that compared ovarian reserve in patients with SLE to that of healthy individuals. The study examined anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), antral follicle count (AFC), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) as outcomes. RESULTS: Thirteen studies (n=1017) were eligible for meta-analysis. Females with SLE had significantly lower levels of AMH (weighted mean difference [WMD]: -1.07, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.37 to -0.76, P<0.001) and AFC (WMD: -3.46, 95% CI: -4.57 to -2.34, P<0.001). There was no significant difference in FSH levels. Subgroup analyses by age of onset revealed that SLE patients with adult-onset had significantly lower AMH levels (WMD: -1.44, 95% CI: -1.71 to -1.18, P<0.001), lower AFCs (WMD: -3.11, 95% CI: -3.60 to -2.61, P<0.001) and higher FSH levels (WMD: 0.60, 95% CI: 0.15 to 1.05, P<0.01). However, SLE patients with juvenile-onset did not exhibit significant differences in their AMH and FSH levels, except for AFCs (WMD: -7.27, 95% CI: -12.39 to -2.14, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The impact of SLE on ovarian reserve is significant, and the effect may be particularly severe in cases of adult-onset SLE.
