Purpose: To assess the performance of Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer-4 in providing accurate diagnoses to retina teaching cases from OCTCases. Design: Cross-sectional study. Subjects: Retina teaching cases from OCTCases. Methods: We prompted a custom chatbot with 69 retina cases containing multimodal ophthalmic images, asking it to provide the most likely diagnosis. In a sensitivity analysis, we inputted increasing amounts of clinical information pertaining to each case until the chatbot achieved a correct diagnosis. We performed multivariable logistic regressions on Stata v17.0 (StataCorp LLC) to investigate associations between the amount of text-based information inputted per prompt and the odds of the chatbot achieving a correct diagnosis, adjusting for the laterality of cases, number of ophthalmic images inputted, and imaging modalities. Main Outcome Measures: Our primary outcome was the proportion of cases for which the chatbot was able to provide a correct diagnosis. Our secondary outcome was the chatbot's performance in relation to the amount of text-based information accompanying ophthalmic images. Results: Across 69 retina cases collectively containing 139 ophthalmic images, the chatbot was able to provide a definitive, correct diagnosis for 35 (50.7%) cases. The chatbot needed variable amounts of clinical information to achieve a correct diagnosis, where the entire patient description as presented by OCTCases was required for a majority of correctly diagnosed cases (23 of 35 cases, 65.7%). Relative to when the chatbot was only prompted with a patient's age and sex, the chatbot achieved a higher odds of a correct diagnosis when prompted with an entire patient description (odds ratio = 10.1, 95% confidence interval = 3.3-30.3, P < 0.01). Despite providing an incorrect diagnosis for 34 (49.3%) cases, the chatbot listed the correct diagnosis within its differential diagnosis for 7 (20.6%) of these incorrectly answered cases. Conclusions: This custom chatbot was able to accurately diagnose approximately half of the retina cases requiring multimodal input, albeit relying heavily on text-based contextual information that accompanied ophthalmic images. The diagnostic ability of the chatbot in interpretation of multimodal imaging without text-based information is currently limited. The appropriate use of the chatbot in this setting is of utmost importance, given bioethical concerns. This study investigated the migration patterns of oxygen in the deoxidation process of Ti-48Al alloy scrap using electromagnetic levitation (EML) technology. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were employed to analyze the oxygen distribution patterns and migration path during EML. The refining process resulted in three types of oxygen migration: (1) escape from the lattice and evaporation in the form of AlO, Al2O; (2) formation of metal oxides and remaining in the alloy melt; (3) attachment to the quartz tube wall in the form of metal oxides such as Al2O3 and Cr2O3. The oxygen content of the scrap was dropped with a deoxidation ratio of 62%. It indicated that EML can greatly promote the migration and removal of oxygen elements in Ti-Al alloy scrap.

PURPOSE: To compare visual outcomes of endophthalmitis following intravitreal injections (IVIs) and cataract extraction by causative organism. METHODS: Searches in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, and Embase identified articles reporting visual outcomes by causative organisms in post-IVI and cataract extraction endophthalmitis cases from January 2010 to February 2022. A random-effects meta-analysis compared visual improvement among endophthalmitis cases caused by causative organisms. RESULTS: Eighty-five out of 3,317 retrieved studies were included. The highest degree of visual acuity improvement in both post-IVI and postcataract extraction endophthalmitis was seen in cases caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci, followed by gram-negative organisms and other gram-positive organisms such as streptococci and enterococci. Culture-negative cases showed more visual acuity improvement than culture-positive cases in post-IVI endophthalmitis. These results remained consistent when accounting for endophthalmitis treatment, IVI type, condition requiring IVI treatment, follow-up period, and initial preprocedural visual acuity. CONCLUSION: Coagulase-negative staphylococci and gram-negative organisms show the most visual acuity improvement in both post-IVI and postcataract extraction endophthalmitis. Other gram-positive organisms such as streptococci and enterococci are associated with less visual improvement. This updated systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that the results of the Endophthalmitis Vitrectomy Study are consistent decades later despite advancements in surgical practices and the evolution of microorganisms over time.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) large language model, ChatGPT (version 4.0), for common retinal diseases, in accordance with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Preferred Practice Pattern (PPP) guidelines. DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey study design was employed to compare the responses made by ChatGPT to established clinical guidelines. PARTICIPANTS: Responses by the AI were reviewed by a panel of three vitreoretinal specialists for evaluation. METHODS: To investigate ChatGPT's comprehension of clinical guidelines, we designed 130 questions covering a broad spectrum of topics within 12 AAO PPP domains of retinal disease These questions were crafted to encompass diagnostic criteria, treatment guidelines, and management strategies, including both medical and surgical aspects of retinal care. A panel of 3 retinal specialists independently evaluated responses on a Likert scale from 1 to 5 based on their relevance, accuracy, and adherence to AAO PPP guidelines. Response readability was evaluated using Flesch Readability Ease and Flesch-Kincaid grade level scores. RESULTS: ChatGPT achieved an overall average score of 4.9/5.0, suggesting high alignment with the AAO PPP guidelines. Scores varied across domains, with the lowest in the surgical management of disease. The responses had a low reading ease score and required a college-to-graduate level of comprehension. Identified errors were related to diagnostic criteria, treatment options, and methodological procedures. CONCLUSION: ChatGPT 4.0 demonstrated significant potential in generating guideline-concordant responses, particularly for common medical retinal diseases. However, its performance slightly decreased in surgical retina, highlighting the ongoing need for clinician input, further model refinement, and improved comprehensibility.

Osteosarcoma, a rare primary bone cancer, presents diverse molecular aberrations that underscore its complexity. Despite the persistent endeavors by researchers, the limited amelioration in the five-year survival rate indicates that current therapeutic strategies prove inadequate in addressing the clinical necessities. Advancements in molecular profiling have facilitated an enhanced comprehension of the biology of osteosarcoma, offering a promising outlook for treatment. There is an urgent need to develop innovative approaches to address the complex challenges of osteosarcoma, ultimately contributing to enhanced patient outcomes. This review explores the nexus between osteosarcoma and cancer predisposition syndromes, intricacies in its somatic genome, and clinically actionable alterations. This review covers treatment strategies, including surgery, chemotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Innovative treatment modalities targeting diverse pathways, including multi-target tyrosine kinases, cell cycle, PI3K/mTOR pathway, and DNA damage repair (DDR), offer promising interventions. This review also covers promising avenues, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and immunotherapy strategies, such as cytokines, adoptive cellular therapy (ACT), ICIs, and cancer vaccines. This comprehensive exploration contributes to a holistic understanding, offering guidance for clinical applications to advance the management of osteosarcoma.

The antioxidant defense mechanisms for anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) bacteria are still unclear. In this study, the potential antioxidant ability of nanocompartments in Candidatus Brocadia fulgida to typical reactive oxygen species (ROS) was investigated. The results showed that the copies of genes involved in anammox central metabolism were inhibited with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), while the genes encoded putative anti-oxidative protein (nanocompartments and cargo HAO) up-regulated. The genetically engineered bacteria grew better and maintained the lower ROS levels (65.60 %-78.07 %) and higher electron transport activities (∼5-21 times) than the wild bacteria under H2O2 stimulus. Molecular docking confirmed that nanocompartment proteins could provide diverse sites to bind with H2O2 based on heme as the redox center. Additionally, the nanocompartments induced up-regulation of multiple protective pathways for coping with oxidative stress from H2O2, including antioxidant enzymes and other non-enzymatic pathways. Thus, the heme-containing nanocompartments presented great potential in preventing and relieving oxidative stress.

Antibiotics and triazole fungicides coexist in varying concentrations in natural aquatic environments, resulting in complex mixtures. These mixtures can potentially affect aquatic ecosystems. Accurately distinguishing synergistic and antagonistic mixtures and predicting mixture toxicity are crucial for effective mixture risk assessment. We tested the toxicities of 75 binary mixtures of antibiotics and fungicides against Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa. Both regression and classification models for these mixtures were developed using machine learning models: random forest (RF), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), and kernel k-nearest neighbors (KKNN). The KKNN model emerged as the best regression model with high values of determination coefficient (R2 = 0.977), explained variance in prediction leave-one-out (Q2LOO = 0.894), and explained variance in external prediction (Q2F1 = 0.929, Q2F2 = 0.929, and Q2F3 = 0.923). The RF model, the leading classifier, exhibited high accuracy (accuracy = 1 for the training set and 0.905 for the test set) in distinguishing the synergistic and antagonistic mixtures. These results provide crucial value for the risk assessment of mixtures.

Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) stands out as a globally significant fruit tree with considerable economic importance. Nonetheless, the orchard production of 'Fuji' apples faces significant challenges, including delayed flowering in young trees and inconsistent annual yields in mature trees, ultimately resulting in suboptimal fruit yield due to insufficient flower bud formation. Flower development represents a pivotal process influencing plant adaptation to environmental conditions and is a crucial determinant of successful plant reproduction. The three gene or transcription factor (TF) families, C2H2, DELLA, and FKF1, have emerged as key regulators in plant flowering regulation; however, understanding their roles during apple flowering remains limited. Consequently, this study identified 24 MdC2H2, 6 MdDELLA, and 6 MdFKF1 genes in the apple genome with high confidence. Through phylogenetic analyses, the genes within each family were categorized into three distinct subgroups, with all facets of protein physicochemical properties and conserved motifs contingent upon subgroup classification. Repetitive events between these three gene families within the apple genome were elucidated via collinearity analysis. qRT-PCR analysis was conducted and revealed significant expression differences among MdC2H2-18, MdDELLA1, and MdFKF1-4 during apple bud development. Furthermore, yeast two-hybrid analysis unveiled an interaction between MdC2H2-18 and MdDELLA1. The genome-wide identification of the C2H2, DELLA, and FKF1 gene families in apples has shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying apple flower bud development.

2D-3D tin-based perovskites are considered as promising candidates for achieving efficient lead-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the existence of multiple low-dimensional phases formed during the film preparation hinders the efficient transport of charge carriers. In addition, the non-homogeneous distribution of low-dimensional phases leads to lattice distortion and increases the defect density, which are undesirable for the stability of tin-based PSCs. Here, mixed spacer cations [diethylamine (DEA+) and phenethylamine (PEA+)] are introduced into tin perovskite films to modulate the distribution of the 2D phases. It is found that compared to the film with only PEA+, the combination of DEA+ and PEA+ favors the formation of homogeneous low-dimensional perovskite phases with three octahedral monolayers (n = 3), especially near the bottom interface between perovskite and hole transport layer. The homogenization of 2D phases help improve the film quality with reduced lattice distortion and released strain. With these merits, the tin PSC shows significantly improved stability with 94% of its initial efficiency retained after storing in a nitrogen atmosphere for over 4600 h, and over 80% efficiency maintained after continuous illumination for 400 h.

Previous epidemiologic studies have suggested a potential negative correlation between total cholesterol (TC) and Gastric cancer (GC); however, several observational studies have shown conflicting results and have failed to provide definitive evidence for a causal relationship between TC and GC. Therefore, we conducted a 2-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study to explore the genetic correlation and potential causal relationship between the 2 variables. We screened for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with TC and GC utilizing a large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) public database. The causal relationship was analyzed using 5 MR analysis methods: inverse variance weighting (IVW), weighted median, MR-Egger regression, weighted mode, and simple mode. Additionally, reverse MR analysis was performed to evaluate the possibility of reverse causality. Sensitivity analyses were conducted, including heterogeneity tests, horizontal multiple validity tests, and leave-one-out tests. After meticulous screening, 79 SNPs were identified as instrumental variables (IVs). The IVW method revealed a causal relationship between TC and GC (OR = 0.844; 95% CI: 0.741-0.961; P = .01). Sensitivity analyses did not detect significant horizontal pleiotropy. Though heterogeneity was observed in the forward MR analysis (IVW, Qp = 0.0006), the results remained reliable as we utilized the IVW random-effects model as the primary analytical method. Furthermore, inverse MR analysis found no evidence of reverse causality between TC and GC, effectively ruling out the influence of GC on the reverse causality of TC. Our MR study provided evidence of a causal association between TC and GC, suggesting that TC acts as a protective factor against GC due to its negative association with the disease.

Electromagnetic levitation (EML) is a good method for high-temperature processing of reactive materials such as titanium-aluminum (Ti-Al) alloys. In this study, the oscillation and deformation processes of Ti-48Al-2Cr alloy specimens at different high-frequency currents during the EML process were simulated using the Finite Element Method and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) methods. The data of oscillation, stabilization time, deformation, and distribution of electromagnetic-thermal-fluid fields were finally obtained. The accuracy of the simulation results was verified by EML experiments. The results show the following: the strength and distribution of the induced magnetic field inside the molten droplet are determined by the high-frequency current; under the coupling effect of the electromagnetic field, thermal field, and fluid field, the temperature rise of electromagnetic heating is rapid, and accompanied by strong stirring, resulting in a uniform distribution of the internal temperature and a small temperature difference. Under the joint action of gravity and Lorentz force, the molten droplets are first within a damped oscillation and then tend to stabilize with time, and finally maintain the "near rhombus" shape.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The association of water loading with several infections remains unclear. Observational studies are hard to investigate definitively due to potential confounders. In this study, we employed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the association between genetically predicted whole body water mass (BWM) and several infections. METHODS: BWM levels were predicted among 331,315 Europeans in UK Biobank using 418 SNPs associated with BWM. For outcomes, we used genome-wide association data from the UK Biobank and FinnGen consortium, including sepsis, pneumonia, intestinal infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs). Inverse-variance weighted MR analyses as well as a series of sensitivity analyses were conducted. RESULTS: Genetic prediction of BWM is associated with an increased risk of sepsis (OR 1.34; 95% CI 1.19 to 1.51; P = 1.57 × 10- 6), pneumonia (OR: 1.17; 95% CI 1.08 to 1.29; P = 3.53 × 10- 4), UTIs (OR: 1.26; 95% CI 1.16 to 1.37; P = 6.29 × 10- 8), and SSTIs (OR: 1.57; 95% CI 1.25 to 1.96; P = 7.35 × 10- 5). In the sepsis and pneumonia subgroup analyses, the relationship between BWM and infection was observed in bacterial but not in viral infections. Suggestive evidence suggests that BWM has an effect on viral intestinal infections (OR: 0.86; 95% CI 0.75 to 0.99; P = 0.03). There is limited evidence of an association between BWM levels and bacteria intestinal infections, and genitourinary tract infection (GUI) in pregnancy. In addition, MR analyses supported the risk of BWM for several edematous diseases. However, multivariable MR analysis shows that the associations of BWM with sepsis, pneumonia, UTIs and SSTIs remains unaffected when accounting for these traits. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the causal relationship between BWM and infectious diseases was systematically investigated. Further prospective studies are necessary to validate these findings.

BACKGROUND: The development of laparoscopic technology has provided a new choice for surgery of gastric cancer (GC), but the advantages and disadvantages of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) and laparoscopic-assisted total gastrectomy (LATG) in treatment effect and safety are still controversial. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of the two methods in the treatment of GC, and to provide a basis for clinical decision-making. AIM: To compare the efficacy of totally LTG (TLTG) and LATG in the context of radical gastrectomy for GC. Additionally, we investigated the safety and feasibility of the total laparoscopic esophagojejunostomy technique. METHODS: Literature on comparative studies of the above two surgical methods for GC (TLTG group and LATG group) published before September 2022 were searched in the PubMed, Web of Science, Wanfang Database, CNKI, and other Chinese and English databases. In addition, the following search keywords were used: Gastric cancer, total gastrectomy, total laparoscopy, laparoscopy-assisted, esophagojejunal anastomosis, gastric/stomach cancer, total gastrectomy, totally/completely laparoscopic, laparoscopic assisted/laparoscopy assisted/laparoscopically assisted, and esophagojejunostomy/esophagojejunal anastomosis. Review Manager 5.3 software was used for the meta-analysis after two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies. RESULTS: After layer-by-layer screening, 258 pieces of literature were recovered, and 11 of those pieces were eventually included. This resulted in a sample size of 2421 instances, with 1115 cases falling into the TLTG group and 1306 cases into the LATG group. Age or sex differences between the two groups were not statistically significant, according to the meta-analysis, however the average body mass index of the TLTG group was considerably higher than that of the LATG group (P = 0.01). Compared with those in the LATG group, the incision length in the TLTG group was significantly shorter (P < 0.001), the amount of intraoperative blood loss was significantly lower (P = 0.003), the number of lymph nodes removed was significantly greater (P = 0.04), and the time of first postoperative feeding and postoperative hospitalization were also significantly shorter (P = 0.03 and 0.02, respectively). There were no significant differences in tumor size, length of proximal incisal margin, total operation time, anastomotic time, postoperative pain score, postoperative anal exhaust time, postoperative anastomosis-related complications (including anastomotic fistula, anastomotic stenosis, and anastomotic hemorrhage), or overall postoperative complication rate (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: TLTG and esophagojejunostomy are safe and feasible. Compared with LATG, TLTG has the advantages of less trauma, less bleeding, easier access to lymph nodes, and faster postoperative recovery, and TLTG is also suitable for obese patients.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is a reliable diagnostic procedure for prostate cancer diagnosis with minimal procedure-related trauma. However, complications, such as massive rectal bleeding may occur after the puncture. We hypothesized that using a transrectal resectoscope could help treat massive rectal bleeding after transrectal prostate punctures. AIM: To identify a simple and effective treatment for massive rectal bleeding after transrectal prostate punctures. METHODS: Patients requiring treatment for massive rectal bleeding after transrectal prostate punctures were included. A SIMAI resectoscope was inserted through the anus. Direct electrocoagulation was performed for superficial bleeding points. Part of the rectal mucosa or surface muscle layer was removed to expose deep bleeding points, followed by electrocoagulation. An electric cutting ring was used to compress and stop the bleeding for jet-like points before electrocoagulation. The fluid color in the drainage tube was monitored postoperatively for continuous bleeding. RESULTS: Eight patients were included from 2012 to 2022. None of the patients with massive rectal bleeding after the transrectal prostate punctures improved with conventional conservative and blood transfusion treatments. Two patients had an inferior artery embolism, and digital subtraction angiography was ineffective. All patients received emergency transanal prostate resection, which immediately stopped the bleeding. Four days after the procedure, the patients had recovered and were discharged. CONCLUSION: Using a transanal prostate resection instrument is a simple, safe, and effective method for treating massive rectal bleeding after transrectal prostate punctures.

Orbital angular momentum flow can be used to develop a low-dissipation electronic information device by manipulating the orbital current. However, efficiently generating and fully harnessing orbital currents is a formidable challenge. In this study, an approach is presented that induces a colossal orbital current by gradient oxidation in Pt/Ta to enhance spin-orbit torque (SOT) and achieve high-efficiency magnetization switching. The maximum efficiency of the SOT before and after the gradient oxidation of Ta is improved relative to that of Pt by ≈600 and 1200%, respectively. The large SOT originates from the colossal orbital current because of the orbital Rashba-Edelstein effect induced by the gradient oxidation of Ta. In addition, a large spin-to-charge conversion efficiency is observed in yttrium iron garnet/Pt/TaOx because of the inverse orbital Rashba-Edelstein effect. Harnessing the orbital current can help effectively minimize the critical current density of the current-induced magnetization switching to 2.26-1.08 × 106 A cm-2, marking a 12-fold reduction compared to that using Pt. This findings provide a new path for research on low-dissipation spin-orbit devices and improve the tunability of orbital current generation.

PURPOSE: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs)-associated myocarditis was a rare yet severe complication observed in individuals undergoing immunotherapy. This study investigated the immune status and characteristics of patients diagnosed with ICIs- associated myocarditis. METHODS: A total of seven patients diagnosed with ICIs-associated myocarditis were included in the study, while five tumor patients without myocarditis were recruited as reference controls. Additionally, 30 healthy individuals were recruited as blank controls. Biochemical indices, electrocardiogram, and echocardiography measurements were obtained both prior to and following the occurrence of myocarditis. High-throughput sequencing of T cell receptor (TCR) was employed to assess the diversity and distribution characteristics of TCR CDR3 length, as well as the diversity of variable (V) and joining (J) genes of T lymphocytes in peripheral blood. RESULTS: In the seven patients with ICIs-associated myocarditis, Troponin T (TNT) levels exhibited a significant increase following myocarditis, while other parameters such as brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), QTc interval, and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) did not show any significant differences. Through sequencing, it was observed that the diversity and uniformity of CDR3 in the ICIs-associated myocarditis patients were significantly diminished. Additionally, the distribution of CDR3 nucleotides deviated from normality, and variations in the utilization of V and J gene segments. CONCLUSION: The reconstitution of the TCR immune repertoire may play a pivotal role in the recognition of antigens in patients with ICIs-associated myocarditis.

This study explored the characteristics of spatial and temporal changes in drought in the Yellow River Basin from 2001 to 2020 based on TVPDI, surface runoff, vegetation net primary productivity, and grain yield data. Further, the effects of drought on water resources, grain resources, and vegetation resources were also analyzed using data spatialization methods, slope trend analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that:① The spatial distribution of drought in the Yellow River basin was stepped from southeast to northwest, and 60.6 % of the basin was in drought. The overall trend of drought in the basin was decreasing annually, and 94 % of the basin was gradually changing from drought to wet conditions, and the trend of drought from spring to winter decreased first and then increased. ② From the spatial and temporal changes in important resources in the basin, 53 % of the key surface runoff areas showed an increasing trend and were mainly located in the southwest of the basin; the net primary productivity (NPP) of vegetation and grain yield of food resources also showed an increasing trend. ③ Drought and the three types of resources showed significant spatial correlations, and the higher the degree of drought, the more significant the effects on surface runoff, vegetation productivity, and grain yield. However, the important resources in areas that had become wetter in recent years had not increased significantly, which indicated that the effects of drought on the three types of important resources had a time lag, and their lags had significant differences in spatial distribution and geographical differentiation patterns. This study has important theoretical implications for agricultural production, drought mitigation, and ecological conservation in the Yellow River Basin.

Osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative joint disorder, has an unclear immune infiltration mechanism in subchondral bone (SCB). Thus, this study aims to discern immune infiltration variations in SCB between early- and late-stages of OA and identify pertinent biomarkers. Utilizing the GSE515188 bulk-seq profile from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, we performed single-sample gene-set enrichment analysis alongside weighted gene co-expression network analysis to identify key cells and immune-related genes (IRGs) involved in SCB at both stages. At the meanwhile, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the same dataset and intersected with IRGs to find IR-DEGs. Protein-protein interaction network and enrichment analyses and further gene filtering using LASSO regression led to the discovery of potential biomarkers, which were then validated by ROC curve analysis, single-cell RNA sequencing, qRT-PCR, western blot and immunofluorescence. ScRNA-seq analysis using GSE196678, qRT-PCR, western blot and immunofluorescence results confirmed the upregulation of their expression levels in early-stage OA SCB samples. Our comprehensive analysis revealed lymphocytes infiltration as a major feature in early OA SCB. A total of 13 IR-DEGs were identified, showing significant enrichment in T- or B-cell activation pathways. Three of them (CD247, POU2AF1, and TNFRSF13B) were selected via the LASSO regression analysis, and results from the ROC curve analyses indicated the diagnostic efficacy of these 3 genes as biomarkers. These findings may aid in investigating the mechanisms of SCB immune infiltration in OA, stratifying OA progression, and identifying relevant therapeutic targets.

RESUMO

Hydrogen production through the metabolic bypass of microalgae photosynthesis is an environmentally friendly method. This review examines the genetic differences in hydrogen production between prokaryotic and eukaryotic microalgae. Additionally, the pathways for enhancing microalgae-based photosynthetic hydrogen generation are summarized. The main strategies for enhancing microalgal hydrogen production involve inhibiting the oxygen-generating process of photosynthesis and promoting the oxygen tolerance of hydrogenase. Future research is needed to explore the regulation of physiological metabolism through quorum sensing in microalgae to enhance photosynthetic hydrogen production. Moreover, effective evaluation of carbon emissions and sequestration across the entire photosynthetic hydrogen production process is crucial for determining the sustainability of microalgae-based production approaches through comprehensive lifecycle assessment. This review elucidates the prospects and challenges associated with photosynthetic hydrogen production by microalgae.
