Following the publication of the above paper, it has been drawn to the Editors' attention by a concerned reader that certain of the lumen formation assay data shown in Fig. 5A on p. 112 were strikingly similar to data appearing in different form in another article written by different authors at different research institute, which had already been published in the journal Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy prior to the submission of this paper to International Journal of Molecular Medicine, and which has also subsequently been retracted. In view of the fact that the contentious data had already apparently been published previously, the Editor of International Journal of Molecular Medicine has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. After having been in contact with the authors, they agreed with the decision to retract the paper. The Editor apologizes to the readership for any inconvenience caused. In order to study the photoelectric properties of the adsorption of different metal atoms on a two-dimensional (2D) perovskite surface, in this article, we built many models of Ag, Au, and Bi atoms adsorbed on 2D perovskite. We studied the rules influencing 2D perovskite adsorbing metal atoms with different n values (the n value is the number of inorganic layers of 2D perovskite; here n = 1, 2, and 3). Based on n = 2 2D perovskite, we successively used Ag, Au, and Bi metal atoms to adsorb on the 2D perovskite surface. Firstly, we calculated their adsorption energies. Based on the lowest energy principle, we found that Bi atom adsorption on the 2D perovskite surface gave the most stable structure among the three metal adsorptions because the energy of the Bi adsorption system was the smallest. Secondly, the electron transport process takes place from the s to the p orbital when Au and Ag atoms adsorb on the 2D perovskite surface, but in the Bi atom adsorption, the electron transport process takes place from the p to the p orbital, because the p-p orbital transport energy is lower than that of the s-p orbital. Therefore, Bi atom adsorption on the 2D perovskite surface can improve charge carrier transfer. Thirdly, we calculated the bond angles and bond energies of different metal adsorptions on 2D perovskite. Bi adsorption has greater interaction with the surface atoms of 2D perovskite than Ag or Au atom adsorption, which effectively enhances the surface polarization effects, and enhances the photoelectric properties of 2D perovskite. The light absorption spectrum further confirms that Bi atom adsorption has a greater impact on the 2D perovskite than the action of Ag or Au adsorption. Finally, in an experiment, we fabricated a 2D perovskite solar cell with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/2D perovskite/PEI/Ag (Au, Bi) structure. The Bi electrode solar cell achieves the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.16% among the three cells with forward scanning, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis. We believe that the adsorption of metals like Bi on a 2D perovskite surface as an electrode is conducive to improving the charge transport performance.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a common neoplasm that is exhibited in individuals globally. Increasing evidence demonstrated that cyclin­dependent kinase regulatory subunit 1B (CKS1B) may be involved in the pathogenesis of various tumor types, including multiple myeloma and breast cancer. In the present study, the hypothesis that CKS1B downregulation would effectively inhibit the proliferation, invasion and angiogenesis of RB cells through the mitogen­activated protein kinase kinase (MEK)/extracellular signal­regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway was examined. Initial investigation of the expression profile of CKS1B in RB and adjacent retina tissues was performed using reverse transcription­quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis. A total of three RB cell lines, SO­RB50, Y79 and HXO­RB44, were examined for selection of the cell line with the highest expression of CKS1B, and human normal retinal vascular endothelial cells (ACBRI­181) were also evaluated. CKS1B short hairpin RNA (shRNA) sequences (shRNA CKS1B­1, shRNA CKS1B­2 and shRNA CKS1B­3) and negative control shRNA sequences were constructed and transfected into cells at the third generation to evaluate the role of shCKS1B and the MEK/ERK signaling pathway in RB. Furthermore, the effect of shCKS1B on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and angiogenesis was investigated. CKS1B was determined to be highly expressed in RB tissue, compared with adjacent retina tissue. SO­RB50 and HXO­RB44 cells treated with shRNA CKS1B­1 and shRNA CKS1B­2 were selected for the present experiments. Activation of the MEK/ERK signaling pathway increases the expression of MEK, ERK, B­cell lymphoma 2, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, cyclin D1, vascular endothelia growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor, enhances cell proliferation, migration, invasion and lumen formation, and decreases apoptosis. Following silencing CKS1B, the aforementioned conditions were reversed. The key observations of the present study demonstrated that shCKS1B can inhibit the proliferation, invasion and angiogenesis of RB cells by suppressing the MEK/ERK signaling pathway. Thus, CKS1B represents a potential research target in the development of therapeutics for RB.

In this article, we fabricated a plane structure perovskite solar cell of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/MAPbI3-x Cl x /PCBM/Al. With 1% of 1,8-diiodooctane (DIO) additive in the perovskite, the solar cell's efficiency greatly increased from 10.39% to 13.57%. On the one hand, the DIO additive is advantageous to enhance the thin-film degree of crystallinity, and it can enhance the perovskite thin film's electrical polarization characteristic, leading to an increase in the built-in electric field, and promote charge extraction and separation and transport processes. On the other hand, the DIO additive can also enhance the charge extraction speed in the perovskite solar cell photoelectric conversion process, and further increase the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the perovskite solar cell. In addition, in the perovskite solar cell device there occurs the monomolecular recombination effect; the DIO additive introduced into the perovskite can effectively reduce the trap-induced monomolecular recombination effect, and enhance the solar cell's PCE.

KEY MESSAGE: Our data present H 2 S in a new role, serving as a multi-faceted transducer to different response mechanisms during NO-induced acquisition of tolerance to flooding-induced hypoxia in maize seedling roots. Nitric oxide (NO), serving as a secondary messenger, modulates physiological processes in plants. Recently, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been demonstrated to have similar signaling functions. This study focused on the effects of treatment with H2S on NO-induced hypoxia tolerance in maize seedlings. The results showed that treatment with the NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) enhanced survival rate of submerged maize roots through induced accumulation of endogenous H2S. The induced H2S then enhanced endogenous Ca2+ levels as well as the Ca2+-dependent activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), improving the capacity for antioxidant defense and, ultimately, the hypoxia tolerance in maize seedlings. In addition, NO induced the activities of key enzymes in H2S biosynthesis, such as L-cysteine desulfhydrases (L-CDs), O-acetyl-L-serine (thiol)lyase (OAS-TL), and ß-Cyanoalanine Synthase (CAS). SNP-induced hypoxia tolerance was enhanced by the application of NaHS, but was eliminated by the H2S-synthesis inhibitor hydroxylamine (HA) and the H2S-scavenger hypotaurine (HT). H2S concurrently enhanced the transcriptional levels of relative hypoxia-induced genes. Together, our findings indicated that H2S serves as a multi-faceted transducer that enhances the nitric oxide-induced hypoxia tolerance in maize (Zea mays L.).

PURPOSE: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of Kangxian (KX) capsules on hippocampal neuron convulsive injuries. METHODS: An epileptic discharge model was prepared with hippocampal neurons and divided into groups that were subjected to control, Mg-free, MK801, or anti-epilepsy (KX) interventions for 6 or 24h. The N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor channel current was recorded with a whole-cell patch-clamp technique, and the decay tau was determined from the receptor channel attenuation. The NMDA receptor subunits (NR1, NR2A, and NR2B) were detected by immunoblot assays, and intracellular free Ca(2+) was detected by laser confocal microscopy. RESULTS: The discharge times (6h: 100.66±36.51min, 24h: 134.42±86.43min) and tau values (6h: 934.0±564.9s, 24h: 846.6±488.0) of the Mg-free group were significantly increased (P<0.05) compared to the control group. All of the groups had similar levels of NR1 expression. NR2A and NR2B expression was significantly decreased in the Mg-free group and significantly increased most in the MK801 group, which was followed by the KX group (P<0.01). The free Ca(2+) concentrations in the control group were lower than those in the MK-801 and KX groups, the concentrations of which were significantly lower than those in the Mg-free group and which decreased with time. CONCLUSION: Kangxian capsules played its antiepileptic and neuroprotective roles via multiple targets and the underlying mechanisms included acceleration of the attenuation time course of NMDA receptor channels, alterations in the expression of NMDA receptor subunits, and reductions in the concentration of intraneuronal Ca(2+).
