RESUMO

Following decades of extensive economic development, promoting the transition to greening and decarbonization in economic development have become inevitable choices for controlling environmental pollution and achieving high-quality development in China. Green Credit Guidelines (NIGCG) is a major policy innovation to promote green credit and further improve sustainable economic development. The influence of these guidelines on environmentally friendly enterprises' sustainable development capacity, proxied by environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG), has not yet been discussed. Therefore, this study takes the NIGCG issued in 2012 as a quasi-natural experiment, and adopts a propensity score matching-difference-in-differences (PSM-DID) model to test whether the NIGCG has affected ESG in environmentally friendly enterprises from 2009 to 2022. Our results indicate that the NIGCG significantly boosts environmentally friendly enterprises' ESG, and this finding remains robust to a series of tests. In addition, a mediating effect analysis reveals that the NIGCG affects enterprises' ESG through research and development (R&D) investment, verifying the Porter hypothesis in China. Finally, we determine that the role of NIGCG in promoting ESG is significantly reflected in the non-politically connected enterprises and enterprises in the eastern region. The empirical results suggest that the authorities should stimulate enterprises' R&D investments through supporting policies, such as tax reimbursement and government subsidies, and formulate differentiated policies according to the characteristics of enterprises and their regions, so as to improve the effect of NIGCG.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the current situation and factors influencing physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life in Chinese colorectal cancer survivors. Additionally, this study explored the associations between physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life. METHODS: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 173 colorectal cancer survivors with a mean age of 59 years. Self-reported data on basic demographic characteristics, physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life were collected. RESULTS: Among 173 colorectal cancer survivors, 90 (52.0%) were engaged in manual work. The self-efficacy score was found to be 25.99 ± 7.10, while the global health status score was 54.96 ± 21.56. Global health status was associated with sex, residence, chemoradiotherapy, and monthly income (p < 0.01). The self-efficacy score exhibited a significant positive correlation with quality of life, while demonstrating a negative correlation with symptom scores (p < 0.01). Recreational PA scores were positively associated with global health status (P < 0.05). Self-efficacy, recreational physical activity during winter, and whether the participants underwent chemoradiotherapy explained 29.3% of the variance in quality of life among colorectal cancer survivors. CONCLUSIONS: Colorectal cancer survivors exhibited low levels of physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life. Their health is influenced by self-efficacy, recreational physical activity, and chemoradiotherapy. When developing intervention plans for colorectal cancer survivorship, it is crucial to consider survivors' self-efficacy and the type of physical activity in which they engage.

Objective: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for the treatment of chronic liver diseases for a long time, with proven safety and efficacy in clinical settings. Previous studies suggest that the therapeutic mechanism of TCM for hepatitis B cirrhosis may involve the gut microbiota. Nevertheless, the causal relationship between the gut microbiota, which is closely linked to TCM, and cirrhosis remains unknown. This study aims to utilize two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the potential causal relationship between gut microbes and cirrhosis, as well as to elucidate the synergistic mechanisms between botanical drugs and microbiota in treating cirrhosis. Methods: Eight databases were systematically searched through May 2022 to identify clinical studies on TCM for hepatitis B cirrhosis. We analyzed the frequency, properties, flavors, and meridians of Chinese medicinals based on TCM theories and utilized the Apriori algorithm to identify the core botanical drugs for cirrhosis treatment. Cross-database comparison elucidated gut microbes sharing therapeutic targets with these core botanical drugs. MR analysis assessed consistency between gut microbiota causally implicated in cirrhosis and microbiota sharing therapeutic targets with key botanicals. Results: Our findings revealed differences between the Chinese medicinals used for compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, with distinct frequency, dosage, properties, flavors, and meridian based on TCM theory. Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix Et Rhizoma, Poria, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Astragali Radix, Atrctylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma were the main botanicals. Botanical drugs and gut microbiota target MAPK1, VEGFA, STAT3, AKT1, RELA, JUN, and ESR1 in the treatment of hepatitis B cirrhosis, and their combined use has shown promise for cirrhosis treatment. MR analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between increased ClostridialesvadinBB60 and Ruminococcustorques abundance and heightened cirrhosis risk. In contrast, Eubacteriumruminantium, Lachnospiraceae, Eubacteriumnodatum, RuminococcaceaeNK4A214, Veillonella, and RuminococcaceaeUCG002 associated with reduced cirrhosis risk. Notably, Lachnospiraceae shares key therapeutic targets with core botanicals, which can treat cirrhosis at a causal level. Conclusion: We identified 6 core botanical drugs for managing compensated and decompensated hepatitis B cirrhosis, despite slight prescription differences. The core botanical drugs affected cirrhosis through multiple targets and pathways. The shared biological effects between botanicals and protective gut microbiota offer a potential explanation for the therapeutic benefits of these key herbal components in treating cirrhosis. Elucidating these mechanisms provides crucial insights to inform new drug development and optimize clinical therapy for hepatitis B cirrhosis.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is prevalent among older men and difficult to survive after metastasis. It is urgent to find new drugs and treatments. Several studies show that taraxasterol (TAX) has important anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-tumor effects. However, the function and mechanisms of TAX in PCa remain unclear. Here, we found that TAX could significantly suppress the viability and growth of androgen-independent PCa cells and down-regulate the expression of c-Myc and cyclin D1 in vitro. Mechanistically, PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was weakened and the expression of FGFR2 was reduced after TAX treatment in androgen-independent PCa cells. Moreover, TAX evidently inhibited the tumor growth in nude mice and the expression of c-Myc, cyclin D1, p-AKT and FGFR2 were down-regulated in xenograft tumor. These results indicate that TAX suppresses the proliferation of androgen-independent PCa cells via inhibiting the activation of PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and the expression of FGFR2, which means TAX may be a novel anti-tumor agent for later PCa treatment.

Copper is an essential trace element that acts as a cofactor in various enzyme active sites in the human body. It participates in numerous life activities, including lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, and neurotransmitter synthesis. The proposal of "Cuproptosis" has made copper metabolism-related pathways a research hotspot in the field of tumor therapy, which has attracted great attention. This review discusses the biological processes of copper uptake, transport, and storage in human cells. It highlights the mechanisms by which copper metabolism affects hepatocellular carcinogenesis and metastasis, including autophagy, apoptosis, vascular invasion, cuproptosis, and ferroptosis. Additionally, it summarizes the current clinical applications of copper metabolism-related drugs in antitumor therapy.

Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at increased risk of developing several cancers; however, there is a lack of consensus on the relationship between gastric cancer (GC) and DM. This study aimed to explore the association between GC and DM based on the type and duration of DM. We searched nine databases from inception to December 1, 2021, and 40 cohort studies that evaluated the relationship between DM and the incidence of GC were included in this review. The summary relative ratios for the relationship of GC incidence with type 1 DM (T1DM) and type 2 DM (T2DM) were estimated using the fixed-effect and random-effect models, respectively. The risk of GC was 46% and 14% higher in individuals with T1DM and T2DM, respectively, than in those without diabetes. The risk of GC development in patients with diabetes showed a U-shape curve of change with DM duration. Our meta-analysis suggested that both T1DM and T2DM present a higher risk of GC development. The risk of GC may be influenced by the different time windows following the onset of diabetes. Future studies are required to explore the mechanism by which the duration of DM, antidiabetic medication use, and sex affect this association.

The sudden outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has deep and wide negative mental impacts on the public, and studies on the impact of COVID-19 on social and mental well-being are necessary. This study aimed to evaluate mental distress, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and its related risk factors in Chinese adults in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a large-scale cross-sectional design. A total of 2067 adult participants completed the online survey via REDcap from 1st to 15th of March 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and related risk factors, including self-efficacy, coping style, and social support, were measured using valid and reliable instruments. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. We found that 201 (9.7%) participants reported moderate-to-severe anxiety, 669 (33.8%) reported depression, and 368 (17.8%) reported symptoms of PTSD. Self-efficacy, coping style, and social support significantly affected anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms. Participants' sociodemographic characteristics, COVID-19 pandemic-related factors, low self-efficacy, low social support, and negative coping were predictors of mental distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study will help healthcare professionals carry out early predictions and identification of high-risk groups and provide appropriate interventions to target groups during public health emergencies that plague the world.

The Chinese endemic species Prunus hypoxantha is of great importance biogeographically, and is distributed in the edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Here, the complete chloroplast genome sequence of P. hypoxantha was assembled based on the Illumina reads. The complete plastome is 158,740 bp in length, with a large single-copy (87,206 bp) region, a small single-copy (18,884 bp) region, and two inverted repeat (26,325 bp) regions. The plastome contains 134 genes. Complete chloroplast genome sequence of P. hypoxantha will provide irreplaceable information in rebuilding the evolutionary history of the Maddenia clade.

BACKGROUND: Many app-based interventions targeting women with breast cancer have been developed and tested for effectiveness. However, information regarding the evaluation of the usage of these interventions is scarce. A better understanding of usage data is important to determine how women use apps and how these interventions affect health outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the usage duration and login frequency of an app-based intervention, the Breast Cancer e-Support (BCS) program, and to investigate the association between usage data and participants' demographic and medical characteristics. METHODS: This study is a secondary data analysis of a randomized controlled trial assessing the effectiveness of the BCS program. The BCS program contains four modules: Learning Forum, Discussion Forum, Ask-the-Expert Forum, and Your Story Forum. A total of 57 women in the intervention group accessed the BCS program during their 12-week chemotherapy. The app's background system tracked the usage duration and login frequency for each forum and the entire BCS program. RESULTS: The total usage duration per participant ranged from 0 to 9371 minutes, and the login frequency per participant ranged from 0 to 774 times. The Discussion Forum and the Learning Forum were the most frequently used modules. The general linear model showed that age, education, family monthly income, and employment were associated with BCS usage duration and/or login frequency. Age (F1,45=10.09, P=.003, B=115.34, 95% CI 42.22-188.47) and education level (F1,45=7.22, P=.01, B=1949.63, 95% CI 487.76-3411.50) were positively associated with the usage duration of the entire BCS program. Family monthly income was positively associated with the usage duration of the Learning Forum (F1,45=11.85, P=.001, B=1488.55, 95% CI 617.58-2359.51) and the login frequency of the entire BCS program (F1,45=4.47, P=.04, B=113.68, 95% CI 5.33-222.03). Employment was negatively associated with the usage duration of the Ask-the-expert Forum (F1,45=4.50, P=.04, B=-971.87, 95% CI -1894.66 to -49.07) and the Your Story Forum (F1,45=5.36, P=.03, B=-640.71, 95% CI -1198.30 to -83.11) and positively associated with the login frequency of the entire BCS program (F1,45=10.86, P=.002, B=192.88, 95% CI 75.01-310.74). No statistical differences were found between BCS usage data and cancer stage, BMI, comorbidity, types of surgery, or cycles of chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, this study found considerable variability in the usage of app-based interventions. When health care professionals incorporate app-based interventions into their routine care for women with breast cancer, the learning and discussion functions of apps should be strengthened to promote engagement. Additionally, characteristics of women with breast cancer, such as age, level of education, income, and employment status, should be taken in consideration to develop tailored apps that address their particular needs and therefore improve their engagement with the app. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN12616000639426; http://www.ANZCTR.org.au/ACTRN12616000639426.aspx.

Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is a "living"/controlled radical polymerization, which is also used for surface grafting of various materials including textiles. However, the commonly used metal complex catalyst, CuBr, is mildly toxic and results in unwanted color for textiles. In order to replace the transition metal catalyst of surface-initiated ATRP, the possibility of HRP biocatalyst was investigated in this work. 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA) was grafted onto the surface of silk fabric using the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) biocatalyzed ATRP method, which is used to improve the crease resistance of silk fabric. The structure of grafted silk fabric was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrum, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetic analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that HPMA was successfully grafted onto silk fabric. Compared with the control silk sample, the wrinkle recovery property of grafted silk fabric was greatly improved, especially the wet crease recovery property. However, the whiteness, breaking strength, and moisture regain of grafted silk fabric decreased somewhat. The present work provides a novel, biocatalyzed, environmentally friendly ATRP method to obtain functional silk fabric, which is favorable for clothing application and has potential for medical materials.

BACKGROUND: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is reportedly the most effective therapy for relapsing Clostridium Difficile infection (CDI) and a potential therapeutic option for many diseases. It also poses important ethical concerns. This study is an attempt to assess clinicians' perception and attitudes towards ethical and social challenges raised by fecal microbiota transplantation. METHODS: A questionnaire was developed which consisted of 20 items: four items covered general aspects, nine were about ethical aspects such as informed consent and privacy issues, four concerned social and regulatory issues, and three were about an FMT bank. This was distributed to participants at the Second China gastroenterology and FMT conference in May 2015. Basic descriptive statistical analyses and simple comparative statistical tests were performed. RESULTS: Nearly three quarters of the 100 respondents were gastro-enterologist physicians. 89% of all respondents believed FMT is a promising treatment modality for some diseases and 88% of whom chose clinical efficacy as the primary reason for recommending FMT. High expectation from patients and pressure on clinicians (33%) was reported as the most frequent reasons for not recommending FMT. The clinicians who had less familiarity with FMT reported significantly more worry related to the dignity and psychological impact of FMT compared to those who have high familiarity with FMT (51.6% vs 27.8%, p = 0.021).More than half of the respondents (56.1%) were concerned about the commercialization of FMT, although almost one in five respondents did not see this as a problem. CONCLUSIONS: We found most respondents have positive attitudes towards FMT but low awareness of published evidence. Informed consent for vulnerable patients, privacy and protection of donors were perceived as the most challenging ethical aspects of FMT. This study identified areas of limited knowledge and ways of addressing ethical issues and indicates the need to devise the education and training for clinicians on FMT.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a self-efficacy intervention on primiparous mothers' breastfeeding behaviors. Participants were recruited from an antenatal clinic at a university-affiliated hospital. Seventy-five primiparous mothers were recruited from November 2013 to February 2014 for the control group, and 75 primiparous mothers were recruited from March to June 2014 for the intervention group. The intervention group participated in a 1-hr prenatal breastfeeding workshop and a 1-hr breastfeeding counseling session within 24 hr after delivery. The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form and the infant feeding method were assessed at hospital discharge, as well as 4 and 8 weeks postpartum. The breastfeeding support program was found to be effective and beneficial to mothers. Nurses should incorporate breastfeeding self-efficacy interventions into their routine care to support new mothers and to increase their breastfeeding self-efficacy and the duration of their breastfeeding exclusivity.

This study aims to investigate the influencing factors on nurses' clinical decision-making (CDM) skills. A cross-sectional nonexperimental research design was conducted in the medical, surgical, and emergency departments of two university hospitals, between May and June 2014. We used a quantile regression method to identify the influencing factors across different quantiles of the CDM skills distribution and compared the results with the corresponding ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates. Our findings revealed that nurses were best at the skills of managing oneself. Educational level, experience, and the total structural empowerment had significant positive impacts on nurses' CDM skills, while the nurse-patient relationship, patient care and interaction, formal empowerment, and information empowerment were negatively correlated with nurses' CDM skills. These variables explained no more than 30% of the variance in nurses' CDM skills and mainly explained the lower quantiles of nurses' CDM skills distribution.

BACKGROUND: Given the importance of intracranial stenosis as a cause of recurrent ischemic stroke and the lack of evidence supporting a clear choice for prevention of recurrent ischemic events, a computer simulation model for prognostic prediction could be used to improve decision making. AIMS: The aim of the following study is to compare the long-term effect of aspirin, clopidogrel and clopidogrel plus aspirin for prevention of recurrent stroke due to atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis. SETTING AND DESIGN: The cohort consisted of 206 patients from 2006 to 2011. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A two-state Markov model was used to predict the prognosis of patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) caused by angiographically verified 50-99% stenosis of a major intracranial artery to receive aspirin, clopidogrel, or dual therapy. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Two tests were used: Pearson Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test (for percentages) and Kruskal Wallis test (for rank order data). RESULTS: In the 10-year Markov cohort analysis, 36.24% of patients who were treated with clopidogrel plus aspirin developed to recurrent stroke while the probability for patients in the aspirin group and clopidogrel group was 42.60% and 48.39% respectively. Patients with clopidogrel plus aspirin had the highest quality-adjusted life years, followed by aspirin and clopidogrel. CONCLUSION: To prevent recurrent stroke in patients with intracranial artery stenosis, especially in those patients with a history of TIA or coronary artery disease, medical therapy with clopidogrel plus aspirin should be considered in preference to aspirin alone.

We investigated the inhibitory effects of anti-Neuropilin-1 monoclonal antibody (NRP-1 MAb) on adhesion of glioma cells to Fibronectin (FN) and the associated mechanisms. The effects of NRP-1 MAb on adhesion of U251 glioma cells and formation of stress fibers were studied using adhesion assays and confocal fluorescence microscopy. After treatment of U251 glioma cells with NRP-1 MAb, changes of related proteins adhering to FN were detected by co-immunoprecipitation and Western blot. Adhesion assays showed that NRP-1 MAb played an inhibitory role in adhesion of U251 glioma cells. Confocal fluorescence microscopy, co-immunoprecipitation and Western blot showed that NRP-1 MAb can inhibit the formation of stress fibers adhering to U251 cells. NRP-1 MAb can also affect the formation of Integrin α5ß1-NRP-1 complex, and also reduce the level of phosphorylation of FAK and p130cas. In conclusion, NRP-1 MAb has the inhibitory effects on adhesion of glioma cells to FN. This effect is related to the inhibition of NRP-1 MAb on the formation of Integrin α5ß1-NRP-1 complex, which leads to the inhibition of FAK/p130cas signaling pathway.

Increasing evidence indicates that in gastric epithelial cells, induction of TFF3 by hypoxia is mediated by HIF-1. Since VEGF is one of the most important angiogenic factors on cancer progression, we have started to investigate the possible link among HIF-1α, VEGF, and TFF3 in gastric cancer cells. We induced the hypoxic condition in SGC-7901cells using hypoxia-mimetic agent of CoCI2. SGC7901 cells were transfected with pcPUR + U6 plasmid carrying RNAi targeted to human TFF3 and selected puromycin-resistant pools to establish the stable knockdown of TFF3 cells. Our results showed the induction of HIF-1a via hypoxia and consequences of increased expressions of the TFF3 and VEGF in gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells. Overexpression of TFF3 upregulated the mRNA expressions of VEGF and HIF-1a induced by hypoxia, and stable knockdown of TFF3 impaired the mRNA upregulations of VEGF and HIF-1a induced by hypoxia. Furthermore, knockdown of TFF3 reduced the VEGF protein secretion: as VEGF secretion was increased time dependent manner in response to the hypoxia induction in TFF3-WT cells; however, VEGF production was significantly decreased in TFF3-KD cells (621 ± 89 vs. 264 ± 73 at 6 h and 969 ± 97 vs. 508 ± 69 at 12 h, P < 0.05). Our data demonstrated the TFF3 mediated regulation of VEGF expression induced by hypoxia, and implicated that TFF3 might be applied as a potential anti-angiogenic target for treatment of gastric cancer.
