RESUMO

In this study, the ß-cyclodextrin encapsulated betanin (BET@ß-CD) with improved thermal stability and retention as well as the berberine (BBR) with aggregate induced luminescence effect were incorporated into corn amylose (CA) biomatrix to develop colorimetric/fluorescent dual-channel smart film. Results shown that the added functional components were uniformly distributed in the film matrix. The high tensile strength (78.87%), low water solubility (31.15%) and water vapor permeability (1.24 × 10-10 g Pa-1 s-1 m-1) of the film predicted its acceptable stability. It was worth mentioning that the film displayed excellent responsiveness to volatile ammonia (0.025-25 mg/mL) with at least 4 times recyclability. Application experiment demonstrated that the film can achieve macroscopic dynamic monitoring of the freshness of shrimps stored at 25 °C, 4 °C, -20 °C under daylight (red to yellow) and UV light (yellow-green to blue-green). Thus, the study suggests an attractive and effective strategy for constructing dual-mode smart packaging materials for food freshness detection.

RESUMO

Traditional optical flame detectors (OFDs) in flame detection are susceptible to environmental interference, which will inevitably cause detection errors and miscalculations when confronted with a complex environment. The conventional deep learning-based models can mitigate the interference of complex environments by flame image feature extraction, which significantly improves the precision of flame recognition. However, these models focus on identifying the general profile of the static flame, but neglect to effectively locate the source of the dynamic flame. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel dynamic flame detection method named Dynamic Deformable Adaptive Framework (DDAF) for locating the flame root region dynamically. Specifically, to address limitations in flame feature extraction of existing detection models, the Deformable Convolution Network v2 (DCNv2) is introduced for more flexible adaptation to the deformations and scale variations of target objects. The Context Augmentation Module (CAM) is used to convey flame features into Dynamic Head (DH) to feature extraction from different aspects. Subsequently, the Layer-Adaptive Magnitude-based Pruning (LAMP) where the connection with the smallest LAMP score is pruned sequentially is employed to further enhance the speed of model detection. More importantly, both the coarse- and fine-grained location techniques are designed in the Inductive Modeling (IM) to accurately delineate the flame root region for effective fire control. Additionally, the Temporal Consistency-based Detection (TCD) contributes to improving the robustness of model detection by leveraging the temporal information presented in consecutive frames of a video sequence. Compared with the classical deep learning method, the experimental results on the custom flame dataset demonstrate that the AP0.5 value is improved by 4.4%, while parameters and FLOPs are reduced by 25.3% and 25.9%, respectively. The framework of this research extends applicability to a variety of flame detection scenarios, including industrial safety and combustion process control.

RESUMO

In this study, the polyvinylpyrrolidone-alizarin nanoparticles (PVP-AZ NPs) with favorable water dispersion and the carbon quantum dots (RQDs) with aggregate induced emission effect were synthesized to construct an eco-friendly film for food freshness monitoring. The introduction of PVP-AZ NPs and RQDs enhanced the network structure and thermal stability of the cassava starch/polyvinyl alcohol film, and reduced its crystallinity and light transmittance via non-covalent binding with the film-forming matrix. The developed film exhibited visually recognizable colorimetric and fluorescent responses to ammonia at 0.025-25 mg/mL, and it can be reused at least 6 times. Practical application experiment proved that the film, as an indicator label, can achieve accurate, real-time, and visual dynamic monitoring of the freshness of shrimp stored at 25 °C, 4 °C, and - 20 °C under daylight (orange yellow to purple) and UV light (red to blue). The integration of multivariate detection technology can eliminate the interference of external factors by self-correction to improve sensitivity and reliability, which provides a reference for the development of other food quality and safety monitoring platforms.

RESUMO

By virtue of noninvasive regulations by light, photocontrolled polymerizations have attracted considerable attention for the precision synthesis of macromolecules. However, a cationic polymerization with simultaneous photocontrol and tacticity-regulation remains elusive so far. Herein, we introduce an asymmetric ion-pairing photoredox catalysis strategy that allows for the development of a stereoselective cationic polymerization with concurrent light regulation for the first time. By employing an ion pair catalyst (PC+/*A-) consisting of a photoredox active cation (PC+) and a sterically confined chiral anion (*A-) to deliver the stereochemical control, the cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers can be achieved with photocontrol and high isotactic selectivity (up to 91% m) at a remarkable low catalyst loading (50 ppm).

RESUMO

The structure of a Na4Sn2Ge5O16 phase was established via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Unusually large displacement parameters of Na atoms suggested the possibility of Na+ ionic conductivity. To create Na deficiencies and thus increase the Na+ mobility in Na4Sn2Ge5O16, Sn4+ cations were partially substituted with Sb5+. A series of Na4-xSn2-xSbxGe5O16 samples (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, or 0.35) were prepared by solid-state reactions and characterized with electrical impedance spectroscopy in the range of 25-200 °C. The highest ionic conductivity value was achieved in the Na3.8Sn1.8Sb0.2Ge5O16 sample (1.6 mS cm-1 at 200 °C). Na+ migration pathways were calculated using the bond-valence energy landscape approach, and two-dimensional conductivity channels with low energy barriers (≈0.4 eV) were found in the structure. Three-dimensional conductivity can also be achieved in the structure; however, it has a much higher energy barrier. The pristine phase and Na3.8Sn1.8Sb0.2Ge5O16 sample were studied via 23Na and 119Sn solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. A faster exchange between the Na sites was observed in the doped sample.

RESUMO

Recently, thermoelectric (TE) materials have been attracting great attention due to their improved capability to convert heat directly into electricity. PbTe-based TE materials are among the most competitive ones; however, lead toxicity limits their potential applications. Thus, the current focus in the field is on the discovery of lead-free analogues. GeTe is considered to be a promising candidate, however, its thermoelectric performance is limited by a non-ideal band structure and intrinsic Ge vacancies. In this work, GeTe was co-doped with Bi, Zn, and In. Initial doping with Bi enhances the performance by tuning the electronic properties and bringing down the thermal conductivity. Subsequent Zn doping permits to maintain the high power factor by increasing carrier mobility and reducing carrier concentration. Additionally, Zn incorporation lowers thermal conductivity and, thus, increases the performance. Subsequent In doping in (Ge0.97Zn0.02In0.01Te)0.97(Bi2Te3)0.03 reduces thermal conductivity even further and makes this material the best performing one. Scanning transmission electron microscopy shows the presence of nano twinning, defect layers, and dislocation bands that contribute to the suppression of the lattice thermal conductivity. A peak zT value of 2.06 and an average zT value of 1.30 have been achieved in (Ge0.97Zn0.02In0.01Te)0.97(Bi2Te3)0.03. These results are among the best state-of-the-art thermoelectric materials.

RESUMO

In view of the potential hazards of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs), this paper constructed a ratiometric fluorescent probe utilizing a functionalized metal-organic framework to detect OPs. Ru(bpy)3Cl2 was encapsulated inside UiO-66 as a reference signal, and MnO2 nanosheets (MnO2 NSs) were grown on the surface to obtain Ru@UiO-66@MnO2 NSs. Acetylcholinesterase catalyzed the decomposition of acetylcholine into reductive thiocholine, which consumed MnO2 NSs, thus restoring the Ru@UiO-66 fluorescence. Due to the enzymatic inhibition of OPs and the redox reaction between MnO2 NSs and thiamine, this probe emitted blue fluorescence in the presence of OPs. The probe achieved linear responses to dichlorvos and chlorpyrifos with LODs of 9.99 × 10-6 µg mL-1 and 9.99 × 10-5 µg mL-1. The probe exhibited a satisfactory recovery rate for OPs in green tea. Furthermore, a hydrogel detection platform was developed by embedding the probe into sodium alginate. Overall, this work provides a visual approach to detect OPs in agricultural products.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Active and smart food packaging based on natural polymers and pH-sensitive dyes as indicators has attracted widespread attention. In the present study, an antioxidant and amine-response color indicator film was developed by incorporating bilirubin (BIL) into the κ-carrageenan (Carr) matrix. RESULTS: It was found that the introduction of BIL had no effect on the crystal/chemical structure, water sensitivity and mechanical performance of the Carr-based films. However, the barrier properties to light and the thermal stability were significantly improved after the addition BIL. The Carr/BIL composite films exhibited excellent 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (i.e. DPPH)/2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (i.e. ABTS) free radical scavenging abilities and color responsiveness to different concentrations of ammonia. The application assay reflected that the Carr/BIL0.0075 film was effective in delaying the oxidative deterioration of shrimp during storage and realizing the color response of its freshness through the change of b* value. CONCLUSION: Active and smart packaging films were successfully prepared by incorporating different contents of BIL into the Carr matrix. The present study helps to further encourage the design and development of a multi-functional packaging material. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

In this study, based on the oxidase activity and photothermal effect of manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO2 NSs), with thiamine (TH) as the fluorescence response signal and tris (2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium (II) hexahydrate as the reference signal, an enzyme-regulated ratiometric fluorescence and photothermal dual-mode probe was constructed for the quantitative detection of organophosphorus pesticide (OPs) residues. OPs reduced the production of the reductive product thiocholine by inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase, thereby regulating the residual amount of MnO2 NSs. With the increase of OPs concentration, the color of the probe solution gradually transitioned from red to blue, and the temperature gradually increased. Using dichlorvos and chlorpyrifos as pesticide models, the developed probes exhibited sensitive responses to OPs in a wide linear range of 0.1-8000 ng/mL. The detection limits of dichlorvos and chlorpyrifos in fluorescence mode were 1.13 × 10-3 ng/mL and 0.86 ng/mL, respectively. The corresponding detection limits in photothermal mode were 1.01 ng/mL and 1.02 ng/mL, respectively. The proposed probe displayed excellent anti-interference and reliability in the analysis of OPs residues in real samples. The dual-mode probe with self-verification function is expected to provide more accurate and robust detection results than the single-mode probe, and has a wider application prospect.

RESUMO

An electrochemical dehydrogenative amination for the synthesis of benzimidazoles was developed. This electrosynthesis method could address the limitations of the C(sp3)-H intramolecular amination synthesis reaction and provide novel access to obtain 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles without transition metals and oxidants. Under undivided electrolytic conditions, various benzimidazole derivatives could be synthesized, exhibiting functional group tolerance.

RESUMO

Since FY 2013, as a part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) program, the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (HVBP) program has adjusted Medicare's payments to hospitals based on the total performance score of the hospital. First, the program reduces a portion of the hospital's Medicare payments in a specific fiscal year, and then, by the end of the same fiscal year, the amount of the payment reductions will be awarded to the hospitals based on the total performance score; thus, the hospitals that do not receive the reward will lose the portion of money reduced by Medicare. In this research, we apply the theory of state dependence and use the dynamic random effect probit model to estimate this effect. The results show that the hospital payment adjustment dynamics have a very significant state dependence effect (0.341); this means that hospitals that received a reward in the previous year are 34.1% more likely to receive a reward this year than the ones that received a penalty in the previous year. Meanwhile, we also find that the state dependence effect varies significantly across hospitals with different ownership (proprietary/government owned/voluntary nonprofit), and the results show that voluntary nonprofit hospitals exhibit the largest effect of state dependence (0.370), while government-owned hospitals exhibit the lowest effect of state dependence (0.293), and proprietary hospitals are in the middle. Among the factors that influence the likelihood that a hospital receives a reward, we find that teaching hospitals with a large number of beds (>400) are less likely be rewarded; in terms of ownership, we find that voluntary nonprofit hospitals are more likely be rewarded; in terms of demographic factors, hospitals where the average household income are higher within the region are more likely be rewarded.

RESUMO

Visible light-regulated metal-free polymerizations have attracted considerable attention for macromolecular syntheses in recent years. However, few organic photocatalysts show high efficiency and strict photocontrol in cationic polymerizations. Herein, we introduce monophosphonium-doped polycyclic arenes as an organic photocatalyst, which features the high tunability, broad redox window, long excited state lifetime, and excellent temporal control in the cationic reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of vinyl ethers. A correlation of the catalytic performance and the photophysical and electrochemical properties of photocatalysts is also discussed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: China established the Tiered-network Healthcare Delivery System (THDS) in 2015 to address the disproportionate number of patients attending tertiary hospitals relative to primary- or secondary-care institutions. Although the reported number of outpatients visiting tertiary hospitals is slowly decreasing, numerous patients choose to visit them regardless of their disease's severity. To effectively implement the THDS, this article explored the relationship between patients' sociodemographic and belief characteristics and their healthcare-seeking behavioral decision-making in China. METHODS: Data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed using decision tree and logistic regression models to explore outpatients' characteristics and medical decision-making using comprehensive feature data. Moreover, further statistical analyses were conducted on the outpatient data obtained from the regional population health platform in Jiaxing, China. RESULTS: The decision tree model revealed that whether outpatients have medical insurance is the primary factor guiding their healthcare-seeking behaviors, with those without medical insurance more likely to choose primary or secondary hospitals to treat minor diseases. For those with medical insurance, profession is the main factor, with industrial workers more inclined to choose primary or secondary hospitals for minor diseases. The logistic regression analyses revealed that outpatients without insurance and who were not freelancers or individual owners were more likely to choose primary or secondary hospitals for minor diseases. Further statistical analysis of the data from the Jiaxing population health platform showed that, for minor or general diseases, outpatients without medical insurance and employed as farmers tended to choose primary and secondary hospitals over tertiary hospitals. CONCLUSION: The three analyses yielded consistent results: in China, medical insurance and patients' profession are the most important factors guiding outpatients' healthcare-seeking behaviors. Accordingly, we propose that the government should focus on economic reforms to increase outpatients' visits to primary and secondary hospitals and diagnosis-related groups' payment of medical insurance to decrease the admittance of patients with minor diseases in large tertiary hospitals. Meanwhile, the government should correct patients' belief prejudice about selecting hospitals through corresponding publicity.

RESUMO

A zein-based film functionalized with fluorescent dyes was constructed for visual, real-time monitoring of seafood freshness. The addition of fluorescent dyes had no significant effect on the mechanical property or water sensitivity of the zein-based film, and the fluorescent film exhibited dual emission response. When exposed to ammonia, fluorescein fluorescence increased whilst the fluorescence of rhodamine B was undisturbed. The fluorescent film presented a clearly distinguishable color transition from pink to green. Sample detection tests showed the fluorescent film served successfully as a response label for on-site visual detection of seafood freshness. Development of this intelligent fluorescent film provides a new platform for food safety and quality monitoring, benefiting economic value and public health.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We wanted to investigate the radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) network in patients with Bietti crystalline dystrophy (BCD). METHODS: We compared RPC densities in the disk and different peripapillary regions, obtained using optical coherence tomography angiography in 22 patients with BCD (37 eyes) and 22 healthy subjects (37 eyes). The BCD group was then divided into Stage 2 and Stage 3 subgroups based on Yuzawa staging, comparing the RPC densities of the two. RESULTS: The disk area RPC density was 38.8% ± 6.3% in the BCD group and 49.2% ± 6.1% in the control group ( P < 0.001), and peripapillary region RPC density was significantly lower in the BCD group than in the control group (49.1% ± 4.7% and 54.1% ± 3.0%, respectively, P < 0.001). There were no significant RPC density differences between the tempo quadrant and inside disk of Stages 2 and 3 subgroups; the other areas showed a significantly lower RPC density in Stage 3 than in Stage 2 BCD. CONCLUSION: The BCD group RPC density was significantly lower than the control group. The reduction of RPC density in the tempo quadrant occurred mainly in the Stage 1 BCD. In contrast, the reduction of RPC density in superior, inferior, and nasal quadrants occurred mainly in Stage 2.

RESUMO

Tacticity is a crucial factor affecting the properties of synthetic polymer materials. Here, we introduce a type of chiral organic Brønsted acid catalyst, 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol-derived N,N'-bis(triflyl)phosphoramidimidates (PADIs), for the cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers, which enables the development of the first organocatalytic, highly stereoselective, cationic reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization of vinyl ethers with a trithiocarbonate chain-transfer agent. This metal-free RAFT process could afford isotactic poly(vinyl ethers) with high stereoselectivity, controllable molecular mass, and narrow dispersity at low catalyst loadings (as low as 200 ppm). Moreover, the trithiocarbonate chain-end allows for chain extension to synthesize diblock copolymers comprising an isotactic poly(vinyl ether) block, by a mechanistic switching from stereoselective cationic RAFT polymerization to visible-light-regulated cationic and radical RAFT polymerization.

RESUMO

Maintaining health and improving the quality of life of the elderly is extremely challenging in an aging society. In this study, the relationship between housing and the independence and functional capabilities of the elderly is examined, and the effect of housing conditions on health improvements and their economic benefits for the elderly in terms of medical expenditures are assessed. The study is based on the Chinese Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which was conducted in 2011 and 2013. Two indices that measure housing conditions and the health status of the elderly were run through regression and state-transition models. Housing was found to have a positive relationship with the health of the elderly, and the improvement of housing conditions could significantly change health status and decrease medical expenditures. The importance of maintaining the health of the elderly through housing adaptations and the economic benefits of housing interventions are highlighted, as these can contribute to both public health and housing adaption subsidy policies.
