RESUMO

The stabilization at low temperatures of the Ag2S cubic phase could afford the design of high-performance thermoelectric materials with excellent mechanical behavior, enabling them to withstand prolonged vibrations and thermal stress. In this work, we show that the Ag2TexS1-x solid solutions, with Te content within the optimal range 0.20 ≤ x ≤ 0.30, maintain a stable cubic phase across a wide temperature range from 300 to 773 K, thus avoiding the detrimental phase transition from monoclinic to cubic phase observed in Ag2S. Notably, the Ag2TexS1-x (0.20 ≤ x ≤ 0.30) samples showed no fractures during bending tests and displayed superior ductility at room temperature compared to Ag2S, which fractured at a strain of 6.6%. Specifically, the Ag2Te0.20S0.80 sample demonstrated a bending average yield strength of 46.52 MPa at 673 K, significantly higher than that of Ag2S, whose bending average yield strength dropped from 80.15 MPa at 300 K to 12.66 MPa at 673 K. Furthermore, the thermoelectric performance of the Ag2TexS1-x (0.20 ≤ x ≤ 0.30) samples surpassed that of both InSe and pure Ag2S, with the Ag2Te0.30S0.70 sample achieving the highest ZT value of 0.59 at 723 K. These results indicate substantial potential for practical applications due to enhanced durability and thermoelectric performance.

INTRODUCTION: Since the outbreak of COVID-19, microplastics (MPs) and triclosan in pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are markedly rising. MPs and triclosan are co-present in the environment, but their interactions and subsequent implications on the fate of triclosan in plants are not well understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate effects of charged polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) on the fate of triclosan in cabbage plants under a hydroponic system. METHODS: 14C-labeling method and liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) analysis were applied to clarify the bioaccumulation, distribution, and metabolism of triclosan in hydroponics-cabbage system. The distribution of differentially charged PS-MPs in cabbage was investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: The results showed that MPs had a significant impact on bioaccumulation and metabolism of triclosan in hydroponics-cabbage system. PS-COO-, PS, and PS-NH3+ MPs decreased the bioaccumulation of triclosan in cabbage by 69.1 %, 81.5 %, and 87.7 %, respectively, in comparison with the non-MP treatment (control). PS-MPs also reduced the translocation of triclosan from the roots to the shoots in cabbage, with a reduction rate of 15.6 %, 28.3 %, and 65.8 % for PS-COO-, PS, and PS-NH3+, respectively. In addition, PS-NH3+ profoundly inhibited the triclosan metabolism pathways such as sulfonation, nitration, and nitrosation in the hydroponics-cabbage system. The above findings might be linked to strong adsorption between PS-NH3+ and triclosan, and PS-NH3+ may also potentially inhibit the growth of cabbage. Specially, the amount of triclosan adsorbed on PS-NH3+ was significantly greater than that on PS and PS-COO-. The cabbage biomass was reduced by 76.9 % in PS-NH3+ groups, in comparison with the control. CONCLUSION: The uptake and transformation of triclosan in hydroponics-cabbage system were significantly inhibited by charged PS-MPs, especially PS-NH3+. This provides new insights into the fate of triclosan and other PPCPs coexisted with microplastics for potential risk assessments.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of cyclin-dependent kinases 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) represented a major breakthrough in the treatment of breast cancer over the past decade. In both clinical trials and real-world settings, it was observed that patients using CDK4/6i might experience psychiatric adverse events (PAEs). Herein, we conducted a pharmacovigilance study to comprehensively assess the correlation between CDK4/6i and PAEs. METHOD: We obtained individual case safety reports submitted to the FDA Adverse Events Reporting System (FAERS) during the period from January 2015 to December 2023. In disproportionality analysis, the reporting odds ratio (ROR) and information component (IC) values were calculated for each adverse event-drug combination. Univariate logistic regression analysis was utilized to explore factors associated with PAEs following CDK4/6i treatment. RESULTS: A total of 95,591 reports related to CDK4/6i were identified, with 6.72% reporting PAEs, and this proportion exhibited an annual upward trend. Based on the ROR and IC values, 17 categories of PAEs were defined as CDK4/6i-related PAEs. Among these PAEs, insomnia, stress, eating disorder, depressed mood, and sleep disorder were very common, each accounting for over 10% of CDK4/6i reports. Ribociclib showed the highest risk signal of CDK4/6i-related PAEs (ROR = 1.89[1.75-2.04], IC025 = 0.79), followed by palbociclib (ROR = 1.47[1.41-1.53], IC025 = 0.49), while abemaciclib did not exhibit a significant signal (ROR = 0.52[0.44-0.62], IC025 = -1.13). Female sex, younger age and weight exceeding 80 kg were significant risk factors for the incidence of CDK4/6i-related PAEs. CONCLUSIONS: Using data from a real-world, large-scale spontaneous reporting system for adverse drug reactions, our study delineated the spectrum of PAEs to CDK4/6i. This potentially offered valuable insights for healthcare professionals to manage the risk of PAEs in patients receiving CDK4/6i treatment, particularly those with psychiatric disorders.

Nanoengineering polar oxide films have attracted great attention in energy storage due to their high energy density. However, most of them are deposited on thick and rigid substrates, which is not conducive to the integration of capacitors and applications in flexible electronics. Here, an alternative strategy using van der Waals epitaxial oxide dielectrics on ultra-thin flexible mica substrates is developed and increased the disorder within the system through high laser flux. The introduction of defects can efficiently weaken or destroy the long-range ferroelectric ordering, ultimately leading to the emergence of a large numbers of weak-coupling regions. Such polarization configuration ensures fast polarization response and significantly improves energy storage characteristics. A flexible BiFeO3-BaTiO3 (BF-BT) capacitor exhibits a total energy density of 43.5 J cm-3 and an efficiency of 66.7% and maintains good energy storage performance over a wide temperature range (20-200 °C) and under large bending deformation (bending radii ≈ 2 mm). This study provides a feasible approach to improve the energy storage characteristics of dielectric oxide films and paves the way for their practical application in high-energy density capacitors.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown remarkable efficacy against various cancers in clinical practice. However, ICIs can cause immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated pancreatic injury, often leading to drug withdrawal, and then patients must go to specialized treatment. The patients, their primary tumors are sensitive to ICIs therapy, may experience treatment delays due to such adverse reactions. Therefore, there is a need for systematic clinical researches on immune-related pancreatic toxicity to provide a clinical basis for its prevention and treatment. METHODS: This study involved the collection of data from patients treated with ICIs and addressed pancreatic injury with preemptive treatment before continuing ICIs therapy. Then, we also statistically analyzed the incidence of pancreatic injury in patients with different courses and combined treatment, and the success rate of rechallenge treatment. RESULTS: The study included 62 patients, with 33.9% (21/62) experiencing varying degrees of pancreatic injury. Patients with pancreatic injury, 10 cases evolved into pancreatitis, representing 47.6% (10/21) in the pancreatic injury subgroup and 16.1% (10/62) of the total patient cohort. Preemptive treatment was administered to 47.6% (10/21) of patients with pancreatitis, the effective rate was 100%. Among these patients, 70% (7/10) underwent successful rechallenge with ICIs. The occurrence of pancreatic injury was positively correlated with the treatment duration (P < 0.05) but showed no significant correlation with combination therapies (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The likelihood of pancreatic injury increased with longer treatment durations with ICIs; no significant association was found between the incidence of ICIs-related pancreatic damage and combination therapies. Preemptive treatment for immune-related pancreatitis is feasible, allowing some patients to successfully undergo rechallenge with ICIs therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar echinococcosis (AE), caused by the larval forms of Echinococcus multilocularis, is a zoonotic disease affecting the liver, lungs, lymph nodes, kidneys, brain, bones, thyroid, and other organs. Diagnosing AE in a non-endemic area is usually challenging. With the rapid development and increasing application of sequencing techniques in recent years, metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has become a powerful tool for diagnosing rare infectious diseases. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital for the presence of pulmonary shadows for more than 3 months. The lung computed tomography (CT) at a local hospital revealed scattered solid and quasi-circular nodules in the left upper lobe, left lower lobe, right middle lobe, and right lower lobe. The largest nodule was located in the dorsal part of the right lung, measuring 2.0 × 1.7 × 1.5 cm. Moreover, abdominal CT revealed one space-occupying lesion each in the left and right lobes. The pathological analysis of the lung biopsy specimen revealed infiltration of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and eosinophils in the alveolar wall and interstitial area. No pathogenic bacteria were observed in the sputum smear and culture tests. There were no parasite eggs in the stool. The mNGS of the lung puncture tissue revealed 6156 sequence reads matching E. multilocularis; thus, the condition was diagnosed as AE. Albendazole 400 mg was administered twice daily, and the patient was stable during follow-up. CONCLUSION: This case emphasizes the role of mNGS in diagnosing AE. As a novel, sensitive, and accurate diagnostic method, mNGS could be an attractive approach for facilitating early diagnosis and prompt treatment of infectious diseases, especially when the infection was caused by rare pathogens.

Rituximab (RTX) resistance is a notable challenge in treating diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). ß-Sitosterol (ß-ST) is a plant sterol that has been found in a broad variety of fruits, spices, and medicinal plants. The antineoplastic properties of ß-ST are established in various solid malignancies; however, its effect on DLBCL is uncharted. This study investigates the role of ß-ST in DLBCL as well as the underlying mechanisms. Our findings indicated that ß-ST impeded DLBCL cell proliferation in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. ß-ST appeared to alter sphingolipid metabolism, facilitate acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) translocation to the plasma membrane, augment ceramide platforms through increased ceramide synthesis, and consequently induce apoptosis in DLBCL cells. Furthermore, we found that RTX initiated both apoptotic and survival pathways in vitro, with the former contingent on the transient activation of the ASM, and ß-ST could amplify the anti-DLBCL efficacy of RTX by modulating ASM/Ceramide (Cer) signaling. Collectively, our findings elucidate the mechanistic role of ß-ST in DLBCL and underscore its potential in amplifying the antineoplastic efficacy of RTX via ASM activation, proposing a potential avenue to improve the efficacy of RTX therapy.

PURPOSE: This research is dedicated to uncovering the evolving trends, progressive developments, and principal research themes in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for rotator cuff injuries which spans the past two decades. This article leverages visualization methodology to provide a clear and comprehensive portrayal of the dynamic landscape within the field. METHODS: We compiled 758 research entries centered on the application of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in treating rotator cuff injuries, drawing from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database and covering the period from 2003 to 2023. Analytical tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and GraphPad Prism are employed, we conducted comprehensive analyses to discern the general characteristics, historical evolution, key literature, and pivotal keywords within this research field. This detailed exploration allowed us to forecast emerging focal points and the latest trends shaping the use of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in dealing with rotator cuff injuries. RESULTS: The compilation of 758 articles in this study indicates a consistent upward trajectory in publications concerning tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for rotator cuff injuries. The scholarly contributions from the United States, China, and South Korea have notable influence on the progression of this research area. The analysis delineated ten specific research subdomains, including fatty infiltration, tears, tissue engineering, shoulder pain, tendon repair, extracellular matrix, platelet-rich plasma growth factors and etc. Noteworthy is the recurrent mention of keywords such as "mesenchymal stem cells," "repair," and "platelet-rich plasma" throughout past two decades, highlighting their critical role in the evolution of the relevant field. CONCLUSION: This bibliometric analysis meticulously examines 758 publications, offering an in-depth exploration of the developments in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for rotator cuff injuries between 2003 and 2023. The study effectively constructs a knowledge map, delineating the progressive contours of research in this domain. By pinpointing prevailing trends and emerging hotspots, the study furnishes crucial insights, setting a direction for forthcoming explorations and providing guidance for future researchers in this evolving field.

Abiotic stress, especially drought stress, poses a significant threat to terrestrial plant growth, development, and productivity. Although mulberry has great genetic diversity and extensive stress-tolerant traits in agroforestry systems, only a few reports offer preliminary insight into the biochemical responses of mulberry leaves under drought conditions. In this study, we performed a comparative metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis on the "drooping mulberry" (Morus alba var. pendula Dippel) under PEG-6000-simulated drought stress. Our research revealed that drought stress significantly enhanced flavonoid accumulation and upregulated the expression of phenylpropanoid biosynthetic genes. Furthermore, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were elevated. In vitro enzyme assays and fermentation tests indicated the involvement of flavonol synthase/flavanone 3-hydroxylase (XM_010098126.2) and anthocyanidin 3-O-glucosyltransferase 5 (XM_010101521.2) in the biosynthesis of flavonol aglycones and glycosides, respectively. The recombinant MaF3GT5 protein was found to recognize kaempferol, quercetin, and UDP-glucose as substrates but not 3-/7-O-glucosylated flavonols and UDP-rhamnose. MaF3GT5 is capable of forming 3-O- and 7-O-monoglucoside, but not di-O-glucosides, from kaempferol. This implies its role as a flavonol 3, 7-O-glucosyltransferase. The findings from this study provided insights into the biosynthesis of flavonoids and could have substantial implications for the future diversified utilization of mulberry.

BACKGROUND: Prediabetes strongly increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular events. However, lifestyle intervention, the first-line treatment for prediabetes currently, was inconsistently beneficial for glucose metabolism, and the conventional medicines, such as metformin, is controversial for prediabetes due to the possible side effects. PURPOSE: This study was designed to evaluate the effects of Zhenyuan Capsule, a Chinese patented medicine consisting of ginseng berry saponins extracted from the mature berry of Panax Ginseng, on the glucose metabolism of prediabetic patients as a complementary therapy. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: In this randomized, double-Blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover trial, 195 participants with prediabetes were randomized 1:1 to receive either placebo followed by Zhenyuan Capsule, or vice versa, alongside lifestyle interventions. Each treatment period lasted 4 weeks with a 4-week washout period in between. The primary outcomes were the changes in fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and 2-h postprandial plasma glucose (2-h PG) from baseline. Secondary outcomes includes the changes in fasting and 2-h postprandial insulin and C-peptide, the homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI) from baseline. Blood lipids and adverse events were also assessed. RESULTS: Compared with placebo, Zhenyuan Capsule caused remarkable reduction in 2-h PG (-0.98 mmol/l) after adjusting treatment order. Zhenyuan Capsule also reduced the fasting and 2-h postprandial levels of insulin and C-peptide, lowered HOMA-IR index (-1.26), and raised QUICKI index (+0.012) when compared to placebo. Additionally, a significant increase in high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C; +0.25 mmol/l) was found in patients with Zhenyuan Capsule. No serious adverse event occurred during the study. CONCLUSIONS: Among prediabetic patients, Zhenyuan Capsule further reduced 2-h PG level, alleviated insulin resistance and raised HDL-C level on the background of lifestyle interventions. The study protocol is registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2000034000).

PURPOSE: This article provided a comprehensive scoping review, synthesizing existing literature on the financial distress faced by breast cancer patients. It examined the factors contributing to financial distress, the impact on patients, coping mechanisms employed, and potential alleviation methods. The goal was to organize existing evidence and highlight possible directions for future research. METHODS: We followed the scoping review framework proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) to synthesize and report evidence. We searched electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library, for relevant literature. We included English articles that met the following criteria: (a) the research topic was financial distress or financial toxicity, (b) the research subjects were adult breast cancer patients, and (c) the article type was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research. We then extracted and integrated relevant information for reporting. RESULTS: After removing duplicates, 5459 articles were retrieved, and 43 articles were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles addressed four main themes related to financial distress: factors associated with financial distress, impact on breast cancer patients, coping mechanisms, and potential methods for alleviation. The impact of financial distress on patients was observed in six dimensions: financial expenses, financial resources, social-psychological reactions, support seeking, coping care, and coping lifestyle. While some studies reported potential methods for alleviation, few discussed the feasibility of these solutions. CONCLUSIONS: Breast cancer patients experience significant financial distress with multidimensional impacts. Comprehensive consideration of possible confounding factors is essential when measuring financial distress. Future research should focus on exploring and validating methods to alleviate or resolve this issue.

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the outcome of pediatric patients with primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and compared of the treatments between continued antibiotic prophylaxis (CAP) and endoscopic injection. METHODS: The clinical data of children diagnosed with primary vesicoureteral reflux from March 2015 to June 2020 who were treated with antibiotics or endoscopic injection were reviewed. Antibiotic was the first-chosen treatment after the diagnosis of VUR in children. Endoscopic treatment consisted of injection of dextran hyaluronic acid copolymer (DX/HA) into the ureteral opening under direct cystoscopy guidance. RESULTS: Fifty-two children (35 males, 17 females) were included in this study, and for a total 90 ureters (14 unilateral, 38 bilateral) were diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux by Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG). Twenty-two children were treated with antibiotics (8 unilateral, 14 bilateral), for a total of 36 ureters; thirty children were treated by endoscopic injection (6 unilateral, 24 bilateral), for a total of 54 ureters. The injection surgery took 36 ± 17 min including duration of general anesthesia and circumcision and the hospital stay was 2.3 ± 1.3 days. All male patients underwent circumcision simultaneously. There were no drug and allergic reactions in the antibiotic group, and no postoperative complications occurred in the injection group. With 23 months (13-63 months) of mean follow-up, the resolution rate, defined as radiological disappearance of VUR, was 36.1% (13/36) in the antibiotic group and 57.4% (31/54) in the injection group (P = 0.048).Two cases of bilateral reflux in the injection group required a second injection before resolution could be achieved. Thus, the overall success rate of injection was 64.8% (35/54). 9 cases (9/18, 50%) in the antibiotic group had renal scars on DMSA scans, while this was seen in 20 cases (20/23, 86.9%) in the injection group. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.010).The positive rates of ultrasound between the antibiotic group and the injection group were 45.5% (10/22) and 80.0% (24/30), respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in positive rates of ultrasound (P = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic injection is easy to operate with short surgical time and hospital stay, so it is a safe and feasible treatment. For the treatment of primary vesicoureteral reflux in children, the radiological resolution rate of endoscopic injection is better than antibiotic therapy. In this study, the presence of kidney scars on DMSA and the dilated of the collecting system on ultrasound are the indications for endoscopic injection.

Salt deposits are indicative of relatively extreme climate events. However, due to insufficient independent temperature proxies, paleotemperature records obtained from salt deposition are still lack. The Paleocene evaporite sequence deposited in the Hongze Depression of Subei Basin of eastern China provides an important terrestrial sediment record during this period. In this study we present total of 488 homogenization temperature (Th) data of halite fluid inclusions from drilling core with different stratigraphic depth after detailed petrological observation. The obtained Th ranged from 17.7 °C to 52.3 °C, with the mean Th value of 34.1 °C that in good agreement with the previous studies of climatic proxies. Our study shows that primary fluid inclusions of halite can serve as a robust tool to construct the ancient earth surface temperature.

Oocyte in vitro maturation is a technique in assisted reproductive technology. Thousands of genes show abnormally high expression in in vitro maturated metaphase II (MII) oocytes compared to those matured in vivo in bovines, mice, and humans. The mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are poorly understood. Here, we use poly(A) inclusive RNA isoform sequencing (PAIso-seq) for profiling the transcriptome-wide poly(A) tails in both in vivo and in vitro matured mouse and human oocytes. Our results demonstrate that the observed increase in maternal mRNA abundance is caused by impaired deadenylation in in vitro MII oocytes. Moreover, the cytoplasmic polyadenylation of dormant Btg4 and Cnot7 mRNAs, which encode key components of deadenylation machinery, is impaired in in vitro MII oocytes, contributing to reduced translation of these deadenylase machinery components and subsequently impaired global maternal mRNA deadenylation. Our findings highlight impaired maternal mRNA deadenylation as a distinct molecular defect in in vitro MII oocytes.

RESUMO

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), featuring noninvasive, deeper penetration, low cost, and repeatability, is a promising therapy approach for deep-seated tumors. However, the general or only utilization of SDT shows low efficiency and unsatisfactory treatment outcomes due to the complicated tumor microenvironment (TME) and SDT process. To circumvent the issues, three feasible approaches for enhancing SDT-based therapeutic effects, including sonosensitizer optimization, strategies for conquering hypoxia TME, and combinational therapy are summarized, with a particular focus on the combination therapy of SDT with other therapy modalities, including chemodynamic therapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, chemotherapy, starvation therapy, gas therapy, and immunotherapy. In the end, the current challenges in SDT-based therapy on tumors are discussed and feasible approaches for enhanced therapeutic effects are provided. It is envisioned that this review will provide new insight into the strategic design of high-efficiency sonosensitizer-derived nanotheranostics, thereby augmenting SDT and accelerating the potential clinical transformation.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) has been identified as the cellular receptor for hepatitis B virus (HBV). However, hepatocytes expressing NTCP exhibit varying susceptibilities to HBV infection. This study aimed to investigate whether other host factors modulate the process of HBV infection. METHODS: Liver biopsy samples obtained from children with hepatitis B were used for single-cell sequencing and susceptibility analysis. Primary human hepatocytes, HepG2-NTCP cells, and human liver chimeric mice were used to analyze the effect of candidate host factors on HBV infection. RESULTS: Single-cell sequencing and susceptibility analysis revealed a positive correlation between neuropilin-1 (NRP1) expression and HBV infection. In the HBV-infected cell model, NRP1 overexpression before HBV inoculation significantly enhanced viral attachment and internalization, and promoted viral infection in the presence of NTCP. Mechanistic studies indicated that NRP1 formed a complex with LHBs and NTCP. The NRP1 b domain mediated its interaction with conserved arginine residues at positions 88 and 92 in the preS1 domain of the HBV envelope protein LHBs. This NRP1-preS1 interaction subsequently promoted the binding of preS1 to NTCP, facilitating viral infection. Moreover, disruption of the NRP1-preS1 interaction by the NRP1 antagonist EG00229 significantly attenuated the binding affinity between NTCP and preS1, thereby inhibiting HBV infection both in vitro and in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that NRP1 is a novel host factor for HBV infection, which interacts with preS1 and NTCP to modulate HBV entry into hepatocytes. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS: HBV infection is a global public health problem, but the understanding of the early infection process of HBV remains limited. Through single-cell sequencing, we identified a novel host factor, NRP1, which modulates HBV entry by interacting with HBV preS1 and NTCP. Moreover, antagonists targeting NRP1 can inhibit HBV infection both in vitro and in vivo. This study could further advance our comprehension of the early infection process of HBV.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The global incidence of interstitial lung disease (ILD) has risen over the past few decades. However, few studies have evaluated the status and incidence trends of ILD in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS). This study assesses the trends of ILD incidence across the BRICS with an emphasis on ILD changes from 1990 to 2019. METHODS: Incidence rates were estimated by the data obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019). Age-period-cohort modelling was used to estimate the effects on ILD from 1990 to 2019, and the net drift and local drift were calculated. RESULTS: In 2019, a total of 11.4 million cases of ILD were reported in the BRICS countries. From 1990 to 2019, the incidence rate of ILD in BRICS showed an upward trend. India consistently reported the highest incidence rate, while China showed the fastest growth rate (107.6%). Russia reported a similar incidence rates for men and women, with a lower age of peak incidence compared to the other four countries. We found the time effect was unfavourable for BRICS in the first decade, especially for Brazil; in China and Brazil, the risk of people born after 1960 has rapidly decreased. CONCLUSION: ILD shows a rising incidence in BRICS. with the trends varying based on age and other environmental factors. BRICS should strengthen specific public health approaches and policies for different stages and populations.

Constructing the plasmonic metal/semiconductor heterostructure with a suitable Schottky barrier height (SBH) and the sufficiently reliable active sites is of importance to achieve highly efficient and selective photocatalytic CO2 reduction into hydrocarbon fuels. Herein, we report Au/sulfur vacancy-rich ZnIn2S4 (Au/VSR-ZIS) hierarchical photocatalysts, fabricated via in situ photodepositing Au nanoparticles (NPs) onto the nanosheet self-assembled ZnIn2S4 (ZIS) micrometer flowers (MFs) with rich sulfur vacancies (VS). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that for the Au/VSR-ZIS system, the Au NPs serve as the reaction sites for H2O oxidation, and the VSR-ZIS MFs serve as those for CO2 reduction. The rich VS in the Au/VSR-ZIS hybrid can reduce its SBH so as to boost more hot electrons in the Au NPs across its Schottky barrier and then inject into the conduction band (CB) of the VSR-ZIS MFs. In addition, VS can also act as the electron sink to trap the photogenerated electrons, retarding the recombination of photogenerated carriers. The two merits effectively enhance the photogenerated electron density in the surface of VSR-ZIS MFs, availing CO2 photoreduction. In addition, the introduction of rich VS in the Au/VSR-ZIS hybrid can offer more active sites, benefiting the CO2 adsorption and accelerating the desorption of CO* from the surface of the photocatalyst. Therefore, under visible light illumination with no sacrificial reagent, the optimum photocatalyst (Au/VSR-ZIS-0.4) presents the enhanced and selective CO2 photoreduction into CO (8.15 µmol g-1h-1 and near 100%), which are superior to those of most of ZIS-based and plasmon-based photocatalysts. The photocatalytic activity is about 40.0-fold as high as that of the Vs-poor-ZIS (VSP-ZIS) MFs. This work contributes a viable strategy for designing highly efficient plasmonic photocatalysts by using the synergism of the anion vacancies and the optimized SBH induced by them.

Bladder cancer (BC) is fatal during muscle invasion and treatment progress is limited. In this study, we aimed to construct and validate basement membrane (BM)-associated gene prognosis to predict BC progression and tumor immune infiltration correlation. We choreographed BM-related genes in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database using COX regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis, and the predictive value of BM-related genes was further validated by the GSE32548, GSE129845, and immunohistochemistry staining. All analyses were performed with R-version 4.2.2, and its appropriate packages. Three genes were identified to construct a gene signature to predictive of BC prognosis. We divided the TCGA database into 2 groups, and patients in the high-risk group had worse overall survival (OS) than those in the low-risk group. In GSE32548, we confirmed that patients in the high-risk group had a poorer prognosis compared to those in the low-risk group in terms of OS. Immunohistochemical staining of EPEMP1, GPC2, and ITGA3 showed significantly higher expression at the protein level in BC tissues than in normal tissues. The Spearman analysis showed risk score was positively correlated with B cell naïve, Macrophages M2, and Mast cells resting. stromal score, immune score, and ESTIMATE scores were significantly higher in the high-risk group. drugs sensitivity analysis showed IC50 of Cisplatin, Gemcitabine, and Methotrexate in the high-risk group was significantly higher than that in the low-risk group. We identified 3 prognostic genes from a novel perspective of BM genes as effective risk stratification tools for BC patients.

Urban guide signs, a fundamental component of traffic sign systems, convey both directional and locational information. Previous studies mainly focused on the font or volume of information, while little attention was paid to the layout of text-based Chinese guide signs, which is an unregulated area but crucial in practical applications and related to people's travel safety. This study investigates the impact of text layout and information volume on the spatial representation of road networks through two experimental studies, examining the effects of different designs on path determination and global road network knowledge. The results indicate that the text layout of urban road guide signs significantly influences the formation of spatial representation of the road network. Specifically, vertical guide signs displaying road names on both sides proved more effective than horizontal ones. While the volume of road name information does not markedly affect the formation of spatial representation, the arrangement of road names does influence the determination of information volume, with vertical layouts facilitating the presentation of more information. It is anticipated that these design recommendations for road signs can effectively mitigate the incidence of road traffic accidents.
