RESUMO

All kinds of mutagenic factors may cause physiological, biochemical and genetic changes of all organisms. To characterize their characteristic biology effects, the concept of Relaxation Time (RT) was introduced for the first time, and the specific process was as follows. After mutation of organisms, the offsprings will be continuingly cultured (or cultivated) to the next generation (Rx). Once a biological effect began to show no significant difference compared to the untreated controls, the Rx was defined as the RT of the effect. In this paper, three kinds of mutagenic factors were selected to treat the seeds or seedlings of Astragalus sinicus L., subsequently, the corresponding RT was calibrated. The results showed that the RT was diverse not only among different biological effects but also among different mutagenic factors. For the RT of chemical mutagens and gamma rays, most of which are concentrated on R1, whereas the heavy ion beams have significant differences among different tracks. Among biological effects, the SOD activity and superoxide anion free radical content in the Peak region are more prominent, and their RT reaches R3 and R4, respectively. Thus, the RT may characterize the characteristic biological effects from differently mutagenic factors.

RESUMO

In the title compound, C(25)H(22)BrN(3)O(5)S, the central benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 32.02 (14), 37.49 (18) and 80.52 (13)°, respectively, with the pyrazolone ring, the bromo-benzene ring and the terminal phenyl ring. This conformation features a short intramolecular C-H⋯O contact that generates an S(6) ring. In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of C-H⋯O=C hydrogen bonds occur.

RESUMO

AIM: Regulatory T cells (Treg) that prevent autoimmune diseases by suppression of self-reactive T cells may also suppress the immune response against cancer. Experimental tumor models in mice revealed that Tregs are potent inhibitors of an antitumor immune response. The purpose of the study was to identify a CD4+ population of regulatory T cells expressing high levels of CD25(CD4+CD25 high) in the peripheral blood of cancer patients and provide the opportunity to determine whether cancer patients exhibit an expanded CD4+CD25high pool. METHODS: The frequency of CD4+CD25high in the peripheral blood of 62 cancer patients and 15 healthy donors was determined by flow cytometry. RESULTS: Compared with healthy donors, cancer patients have an increasing prevalence of CD4+CD25high T cells in the peripheral blood with characteristics of Tregs, i.e. they are CD45-RA(), CD69(-). Among patients, those with higher percentages of CD4+CD25high T cells had a poor prognosis than did those with lower percentages. CONCLUSION: We provide evidence of an increased pool of CD4+CD25high in the peripheral blood of cancer patients, which may be related to immunosuppression and tumor progress in cancer patients. This finding suggests that the use of immunomodulatory therapy to treat cancer patients may be an effective strategy.

RESUMO

Vesicle aggregation induced by different environmental factors, including the addition of divalent metal ions, decrease of pH, and increase of temperature--was investigated through turbidity measurement, fluorescence measurement, and transmission electron microscope observation in aqueous solutions of hydrolyzed styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer (HSMA) mixed with dodecyltriethylammonium bromide (C(12)Et(3)). The vesicle aggregation can be explained by the dehydration of the vesicle surface through cations addition or temperature increase based on an analysis of the interaction between vesicles. Moreover, the steric repulsion was introduced to the system and the control of vesicle aggregation was achieved.

RESUMO

Vesicle formation in aqueous mixtures of the hydrolyzed copolymer of styrene-maleic anhydride (HSMA) and a series of single-tailed cationic surfactants (C(n)H(2n+1)N(C(m)H(2m+1))3Br, n = 8, 10, 12, 16, m = 1, 2, 3, 4) was studied by fluorescence measurement, zeta potential measurement, and transmission electron microscopy. The driving forces of vesicle formation in this kind of system are attributed to the combination of electrostatic attraction and the hydrophobic interaction. Variation of the surfactant structure had a great influence on vesicle formation. A model for the conformation of the molecular packing in the vesicle membrane was suggested on the basis of XRD measurement and Chem3D simulation. Moreover, these vesicles showed superstability to aging time, to NaBr, and to ethanol.
