RESUMO

This work was to study the guiding value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based on the target region boundary tracking algorithm in lung cancer surgery. In this study, the traditional boundary tracking algorithm was optimized, and the target neighborhood point boundary tracking method was proposed. The iterative method was used to binarize the lung MRI image, which was applied to the MRI images of 50 lung cancer patients in hospital. The patients were divided into two groups as the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of surgical treatment group (experimental group, n = 25) and nonsurgical treatment group (control group, n = 25). The experimental group received surgical resection, while the control group received systemic chemotherapy. The results showed that the traditional boundary tracking algorithm needed to manually rejudge whether the concave and convex parts of the image were missing. The target boundary tracking algorithm can effectively avoid the leakage of concave and convex parts and accurately locate the target image contour, fast operation, without manual intervention. The PFS time of the experimental group (325 days) was significantly higher than that of the control group (186 days) (P < 0.05). The OS time of the experimental group (697 days) was significantly higher than that of the control group (428 days) (P < 0.05). Fisher exact probability method was used to test the total survival time of patients in the two groups, and the tumor classification and treatment group had significant influence on the OS time (P < 0.05). The target boundary tracking algorithm in this study can effectively locate the contour of the target image, and the operation speed was fast. Surgical resection of lung cancer can improve the PFS and OS of patients.

The number of elderly in the world is increasing rapidly, especially in China. The prevalence of dementia among elderly was investigated in a community of Sheshan town, located in the Southwest suburb of Shanghai, China. Face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect relevant information with prepared questionnaires. The Chinese version of the Mini-Mental Status Examination was used to screen subjects with cognitive impairment (CI). Physical examinations and neuropsychological assessments were carried out. Dementia and its major subtypes, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD), were diagnosed by senior neurologists according to relevant diagnostic criteria. In addition, magnetic resonance imaging and EEG (with P300) were performed for a number of cases with AD or VaD. There were 1,472 participants (666 males and 806 females) aged 60 years and over in the study. A total of 167 subjects with CI were screened. Among them, dementia was recognized in 79 cases with a prevalence of 5.37% (95% confidence intervals: 4.22%-6.52%). The diagnosis of AD was made for 53 cases (16 males and 37 females) with a prevalence of 3.60% (95% confidence intervals: 2.65%-4.55%), and VaD for 21 cases (5 males and 16 females) with a prevalence of 1.43% (95% confidence intervals: 0.82%-2.03%); while the ratio of AD to VaD was 2.52. The prevalence rates of dementia among elderly from our study are higher than that previously reported from China, but in line with that reported from most world regions. A nationwide survey and surveillance system on the prevalence of dementia is recommended.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the possibility of detergent acellularized porcine heart valve serving as a scaffold for tissue engineering valve. METHODS: The porcine aortic valves were acellularized by use of trypsin-EDTA. Triton X-100, RNase and DNase treatment. Biomechanical characteristics of fresh valves and acellularized valve were tested; also fresh valves, acellularized valve and valves treated with method of bioprothetic treatment were implanted subcutaneously in rats; frequently seeded with bovine aortic endothelial cells(BAECs), and then cultured for 7 days. RESULTS: The acellularization procedure resulted in complete removal of the cellular components while the construction of matrix was maintained. The matrix could be successfully seeded with in vitro expanded BAECs, which formed a continuous monolayer on the surface. There is no significant difference of PGI2 secretion of BAECs between cells seeded onto the acellular leaflets and that onto the wells of 24-wells plate (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acellularied porcine aortic valve can be applied as a scaffold to develop tissue engineering heart valve.
