RESUMO

Microbial nitrogen fixation is a fundamental process in the nitrogen cycle, providing a continuous supply of biologically available nitrogen essential for life. In this study, we combined cerium oxide-doped carbon dots (CeO2/CDs) with electroactive nitrogen-fixing bacterium Azospirillum humicireducens SgZ-5T to enhance nitrogen fixation through ammonium production. Our research demonstrates that treatment of SgZ-5T cells with CeO2/CDs (0.2 mg mL-1) resulted in a 265.70% increase in ammonium production compared to SgZ-5T cells alone. CeO2/CDs facilitate electron transfer in the biocatalytic process, thereby enhancing nitrogenase activity. Additionally, CeO2/CDs reduce the concentration of reactive oxygen species in SgZ-5T cells, leading to increased ammonium production. The upregulation of nifD, nifH and nifK gene expression upon incorporation of CeO2/CDs (0.2 mg mL-1) into SgZ-5T cells supports this observation. Our findings not only provide an economical and environmentally friendly approach to enhance biological nitrogen fixation but also hold potential for alleviating nitrogen fertilizer scarcity.

RESUMO

The contents of. soil total fluorine (TF) and water-soluble fluorine (WF) were measured in fluorite ore areas located in Jinhua City. The single factor index, geoaccumulation index and health risk assessment were used to evaluate fluorine pollution in soil in four fluorite ore areas and one non-ore area, respectively. The results showed that the TF contents in soils were 28. 36-56 052. 39 mg.kg-1 with an arithmetic mean value of 8 325.90 mg.kg-1, a geometric mean of 1 555. 94 mg.kg-1, and a median of 812. 98 mg.kg-1. The variation coefficient of TF was 172. 07% . The soil WF contents ranged from 0. 83 to 74. 63 mg.kg-1 with an arithmetic mean value of 16. 94 mg.kg-1, a geometric mean of 10. 59 mg.kg-1, and a median of 10. 17 mg.kg-1. The variation coefficient of WF was 100. 10%. The soil TF and WF contents were far higher than the national average level of the local fluorine epidemic occurrence area. The fluoride pollution in soil was significantly affected by human factors. Soil fluorine pollution in Yangjia, Lengshuikeng and Huajie fluorite ore areas was the most serious, followed by Daren fluorite ore area, and in non-ore area there was almost no fluorine pollution. Oral ingestion of soils was the main exposure route. Sensitivity analysis of model parameters showed that children's weight exerted the largest influence over hazard quotient. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was found among the three kinds of evaluation methods.

RESUMO

The aqueous phase oxidation of gaseous elemental mercury (Hg(0)) by potassium persulfate (KPS) catalyzed by Ag(+) was investigated using a glass bubble column reactor. Concentration of gaseous mercury and potassium persulfate were measured by cold vapor atom absorption (CVAA) and ion chromatograph (IC), respectively. The effects of pH value, concentration of potassium persulfate and silver nitrate (SN), temperature, Hg(0) concentration in the reactor inlet and tertiary butanol (TBA), free radical scavenger, on the removal efficiency of Hg(0) were studied. The results showed that the removal efficiency of Hg(0) increased with increasing concentration of potassium persulfate and silver nitrate, while temperature and TBA were negatively effective. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of Hg(0) was much better in neutral solution than in both acidic and alkaline solution. But the influence of pH was almost eliminated by adding AgNO(3). High Hg(0) concentration has positive effect. The possible reaction mechanism of gaseous mercury was also discussed.
