RESUMO

This study investigated Turkish health sciences students' attitudes toward older adults. Data were collected using Kogan's Attitudes Toward Old People Scale (KAOPS). The sample consisted of 369 students from a public university in Turkey. Participants had low-level positive attitudes toward older adults. Age, grade level, income, curriculum on old age, and willingness to work for healthcare institutions and social services for older people affected their attitudes. Participants' KAOPS scores differed by desired distance from parents after marriage, the introduction of a curriculum on old age, and their willingness to live close to parents after marriage, take elective courses about old age, volunteer in activities and projects for older adults, and work for healthcare institutions and/or social services for older adults after graduation. The curricula should address older adults to improve students' attitudes toward them. Policymakers and administrators should evaluate young generations' attitudes toward older adults and develop policies based on evidence-based data.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to determine the variables that play a role in the efficiency of Health Management departments in Turkey and the ranking of them in order of importance. These variables were determined by systematic analysis. The Prisma method was used in the systematic analysis approach. Input and output variables used in studies assessing the efficiency of higher education institutions in the literature were listed. The ranking of these variables was determined by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The questionnaire used for the AHP analysis and the judgments of 127 academicians working in Health Management Departments in universities in Turkey were assessed. The first three input variables found as a result of the AHP were "the number of registered undergraduate students per faculty member", "the number of faculty members", and "the number of other academic staff". The most important three output variables included "the number of articles searched on SCI, SSCI, SCI-E", "the number of papers presented in international congresses", and "the count of publications published in international peer-reviewed journals". To achieve positive developments in the efficiency of Health Management Departments, it is recommended to carry out studies to increase the number of qualified publications.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine mobbing in the health sector based on the Supreme Court case law. DESIGN AND METHODS: The data were accessed on the website of the Supreme Court. Searches were made using mobbing and health-related keywords and filters. As a result, 43 lawsuits were included. CONCLUSIONS: Most of the cases occurred in private hospitals. Hospital managers were accused of mobbing in 88% of cases. In 30% of cases, nurses were plaintiffs. Also, 45% of cases involved an attack on the occupational situation of employees. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: It is important to develop policies specific to mobbing behavior in the workplace at the macro level and to consider legislation and management monitoring by health managers and especially nurse managers at the micro level.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study determined whether there is a statistically significant difference between efficient and inefficient Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in terms of health indicators using fuzzy data envelopment analysis (FDEA). METHODS: In the study, FDEA was performed with three input variables directly affecting health, four environmental factors considered to indirectly affect health, and two output variables. Literature research was used to determine appropriate variables. In FDEA, three different α-cut levels were used. The hypotheses regarding whether there was a statistically significant difference between efficient and inefficient countries in input and output variables were tested for all α-cut levels of upper bound efficiency values. RESULTS: In terms of health indicators, 17 countries were efficient at α-cut 0 and 0.5. At α-cut 1, 18 countries were efficient. There was only a statistically significant difference between the efficient and inefficient countries in "the number of physicians." CONCLUSION: This study shows the number of physicians was the most important determinant affecting the efficiency of a country's healthcare system. Inefficient countries had a greater mean for number of physicians. Thus, inefficient countries consume more resources than efficient ones.
