RESUMO

There is increasing evidence has indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in the tumorigenesis and development of colorectal cancer (CRC). Nevertheless, the clinical significances and functions of FENDRR in CRC remain unknown. In this study, we reveal that lncRNA FENDRR is downregulated in CRC and negatively correlated with advanced stage and poor clinical outcomes of patient with CRC. Overexpression of FENDRR represses the proliferation, migrate and invasive capacities of CRC cell in vitro, and upregulation of FENDRR inhibits the growth and distant metastatic capacity of CRC cell in vivo. Mechanistically, FENDRR interacts with miRNA-18a-5p (miR-18a-5p) and subsequently regulates the expression of inhibitor of growth 4 (ING4) in CRC cell. Interestingly, ING4 repression or miR-18a-5p rescues FENDRR induced proliferation and aggressive phenotypes inhibition of CRC cell. Altogether, our findings suggest that FENDRR exerts an inhibitory role in CRC by interacting with miR-18a-5p and future increases ING4 expression.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: This study was designed to describe the characteristics, diagnostic and therapeutic methods of abdominal cocoon. Twelve patients with abdominal cocoon were surgically treated. The clinical findings from these patients were analyzed. All patients presented with acute complete intestinal obstruction, and 10 had a previous history of abdominal mass. In nine patients, the whole or part of the small intestines were covered by an ash gray, dense and tough fibrous membrane. The capsule was surgically excised, and the adhesion was released. Partial resection of the small intestines was performed. In the other three patients, the small intestines were only partially covered by a membrane, and there was an extensive adhesion of intestinal tract, forming a large mass which could not be relieved by surgical lysis. Intestinal tube was put in, and fistulation procedures were performed. All patients recovered fully after the surgery. CONCLUSIONS: There are four types of surgical findings in abdominal cocoon. The most common type is that the small intestines are fully covered by a thick white membrane, causing intestinal obstruction. Surgical excision of the membrane and the release of adhesion is the treatment of choice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo study the protective effects of curcumin on exaggerated extracellular matrix accumulation of pulmonary fibrosis rats.

METHODOne hundred and forty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (24 rats in each group). Rats in the model control group, positive medicine group, and high, moderate and low curcumin groups were injected with a single dose of bleomycin by trachea, and rats in sham-model control group with same volume normal saline. One day after the injection, curcumin solution of different dosages (200, 100, 50 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) was respectively given to rats in the high, moderate and low curcumin group daily by gastrogavage, while equal volume of normal saline was given to those in the sham-model control group and model control group, and an equal volume of prednisone (0.56 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) was given to those in positive medicine control group. On the 7, 14, 28 days, 8 rats per treatment group were randomly killed, the levels of III-collagen, IV-collagen, laminin and hyaluronic acid in the serum were determined, the determination of hydroxyproline in lung homogenates was analyzed, and the lung was incised to make pathological sections which were stained with HE and Mallory.

RESULTCurcumin could decreas the levels of III-collagen, IV-collagen, laminin and hyaluronic acid in the serum, and inhihit the proliferation of fibrous tissue.

CONCLUSIONCurcumin may play its therapetuic role by leveling down the content of extracellular matrix in rats with pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin.
