RESUMO

Accumulation of abnormal chondroitin sulfate (CS) chains in breast cancer tissue is correlated with poor prognosis. However, the biological functions of these CS chains in cancer progression remain largely unknown, impeding the development of targeted treatment focused on CS. Previous studies identified chondroitin polymerizing factor (CHPF; also known as chondroitin sulfate synthase 2) is the critical enzyme regulating CS accumulation in breast cancer tissue. We then assessed the association between CHPF-associated proteoglycans (PGs) and signaling pathways in breast cancer datasets. The regulation between CHPF and syndecan 1 (SDC1) was examined at both the protein and RNA levels. Confocal microscopy and image flow cytometry were employed to quantify macropinocytosis. The effects of the 6-O-sulfated CS-binding peptide (C6S-p) on blocking CS functions were tested in vitro and in vivo. Results indicated that the expression of CHPF and SDC1 was tightly associated within primary breast cancer tissue, and high expression of both genes exacerbated patient prognosis. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-ß) signaling was implicated in the regulation of CHPF and SDC1 in breast cancer cells. CHPF supported CS-SDC1 stabilization on the cell surface, modulating macropinocytotic activity in breast cancer cells under nutrient-deprived conditions. Furthermore, C6S-p demonstrated the ability to bind CS-SDC1, increase SDC1 degradation, suppress macropinocytosis of breast cancer cells, and inhibit tumor growth in vivo. Although other PGs may also be involved in CHPF-regulated breast cancer malignancy, this study provides the first evidence that a CS synthase participates in the regulation of macropinocytosis in cancer cells by supporting SDC1 expression on cancer cells.

RESUMO

We report a general copper/iodine co-catalyzed oxygenative transannulation strategy using readily available tryptamines. Molecular oxygen and water are used as oxygen sources and provide direct access to the donaxaridine scaffold and its derivatives. This methodology is applied to the efficient synthesis of the natural products donaxaridine, chimonamidine, donaxanine, donaxarine, and aline in just one or two steps. The tryptamines, albeit with oxy-sensitive dialkyl N-H groups, are selectively oxidized through a single-electron transfer dioxygenation process.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are systemic, heterogeneous diseases, which mainly affect skeletal muscle. Myositis with cancer is often referred to as cancer-associated myositis (CAM), which is associated with poor prognosis. This study aimed to determine the cancer associated myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) and to elucidate their associations with clinical features in Chinese patients with IIMs. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 312 patients with IIMs who were treated at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, China, from January 2015 to December 2020. Clinical data were collected. Serum MSAs, including anti-Mi-2, anti-TIF1-γ, anti-NXP2, anti-SAE, anti-MDA5, anti-SRP, anti-Jo-1, anti-PL-7, anti-PL-12, anti-OJ, anti-EJ and anti-HMGCR antibodies were detected. Cancer-associated MSAs, their phenotypic and survival features were estimated through SPSS 20.0. RESULTS: The results revealed that anti-TIF1-γ antibody and anti-SAE antibody were cancer-associated autoantibodies with odds ratios (95% CI) of 8.70 (3.35-22.64) and 22.31 (4.32-115.05), respectively. Skin lesions, proximal weakness, dysphagia and dysarthria were observed more frequently in patients carrying anti-TIF1-γ antibody. By contrast, patients with anti-TIF1-γ antibody had a lower frequencies of fever, arthritis/arthralgia and interstitial lung disease (ILD). Anti-TIF1-γ antibody positive CAM comprised about half of CAM entities and had the characteristic of close temporal association with cancer detection/recurrence. Female-dominant, common reproductive system tumors were other clinical features of this subset. Besides, patients with anti-TIF1-γ antibody positive had significantly lower survival rates than the anti-TIF1-γ antibody negative group. CONCLUSIONS: Anti-TIF1-γ antibody and anti-SAE antibody were cancer-associated autoantibodies. Anti-TIF1-γ antibody positive CAM was a subset that comprised about half of CAM entities and had the characteristic of poor prognosis.

RESUMO

Macleaya cordata is a Chinese herbal medicine containing a variety of highly cardiotoxic alkaloids, and might result in cardiac failure. Venous-arterial Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) could be used as a therapeutic option in patients poisoned by Macleaya cordata complicating refractory cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest. A 60-year-old man suffered from severe arrhythmia, cardiogenic shock and cardiac arrest after consuming Macleaya cordata. The patient received VA-ECMO support in the emergency department at 5 hours after hospitalization, and was weaned from VA-ECMO on day 4, and was discharged with complete clinical improvement on Day 12. VA-ECMO is an effective method in treating cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest induced by severe poisoning from Chinese herbal medicine. Timely and appropriate interventions with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation devices could improve clinical outcomes in these patients.

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of total laparoscopic versus laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy and investigate the safety and replicability of total laparoscopic distal gastrectomy in older patients. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) age ≥65 years; (2) malignant gastric tumor diagnosed pathologically preoperatively; (3) Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score 0-1; (4) Grade I-III American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status; (5) preoperative clinical tumor stage I-III; (6) total laparoscopic or laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy performed; and (7) gastrointestinal tract reconstruction using uncut Roux-en-Y or Billroth-II+Braun procedure. Patients who had received neoadjuvant therapy, undergone conversion to open surgery, or had serious comorbidities or incomplete data were excluded. The clinical data of 129 patients who met the above criteria and had undergone laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer from January 2012 to December 2021 in the Gastrointestinal Cancer Center in the Beijing Cancer Hospital were analyzed. According to the operation method, the patients were divided into total laparoscopic group and laparoscopic-assisted group. Variables studied comprised: (1) surgical procedure and postoperative recovery; (2) postoperative pathological findings; and (3) postoperative complications. Measurement data with skewed distribution are represented as mean(quartile 1, quartile 3). Comparisons between groups were evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio, there were 40 patients in the total laparoscopic distal gastrectomy group and 40 in the laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy group. Baseline characteristics did not differ significantly between the two groups (all P>0.05).Compared with the laparoscopic-assisted group, the total laparoscopic group had shorter main incisions (4.1±1.0 cm vs. 8.5±2.8 cm, t=9.375, P<0.001), time to fluid intake [4.0 (3.0, 4.8) days vs. 5.0 (4.0, 6.0) days, Z=2.167, P=0.030], and duration of indwelling abdominal drainage catheter [6.0 (6.0, 7.0) days vs. 7.0 (6.0, 8.0) days, Z=2.323, P=0.020]. Numerical Rating Scale scores on postoperative days 1 and 2 were higher in the total laparoscopic than the laparoscopic-assisted group [2.5 (1.0, 3.0) vs. 1.5 (1.0, 2.0), Z=1.980, P=0.048; 2.0 (1.0, 3.0) vs. 1.0 (1.0, 2.0), Z=2.334, P=0.020, respectively]. However, there were no significant differences between the groups in operation time, intraoperative blood loss, white blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, or albumin concentration on postoperative day 1, time to ambulation, mean time to bowel movement, postoperative admission to the intensive care unit, length of postoperative hospital stay, or Numerical Rating Scale scores on postoperative day 3 (all P>0.05). There were also no significant differences between the two groups in maximum tumor diameter, pathological tumor type, total number of lymph nodes dissected, or total number of positive lymph nodes (all P>0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications was 15.0% (6/40) in the total laparoscopic group and the laparoscopic-assisted group; these differences are not significant (χ2<0.001, P>0.999). Conclusions: Compared with laparoscopic-assisted radical gastrectomy for distal gastric cancer, total laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of shorter incision, shorter time to fluid intake, and shorter duration of indwelling abdominal drainage catheter in older patients (age ≥65 years). Total laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for distal gastric cancer does not increase the risk of postoperative complications and could therefore be performed more frequently.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: China faces a serious shortage of competent nurses who can address the healthcare needs of older people in an ageing society. Chinese higher education institutes face serious challenges when it comes to developing new curricula that are capable of educating sufficient numbers of competent gerontological nurses. Therefore, the aim of this research study was to identify and verify competencies for gerontological nurses in China that are needed to provide nursing care for the growing number of older people in all care settings. This study takes into account the possible opportunities that trends and developments may offer in the near future. METHODS: In this study, a two-phase research design was used. The first phase concerned needs analysis, including a situational analysis, a trend analysis and a competence analysis. This process resulted in a draft competence framework. The second phase addressed the verification of the competence framework through a two-round Delphi study with a panel of Chinese and European experts. This process led to the final competence framework. RESULTS: The final competence framework for gerontological nursing in China included six competencies divided into 13 essential and five relevant learning outcomes. The competencies are: 'providing gerontological care', 'communication and collaboration', 'organization of gerontological nursing care', 'health promotion', 'evidence-based nursing and lifelong learning' and 'professional behaviour'. CONCLUSION: The framework comprehensively covers the six core competencies that nurses who care for older people should possess. These competencies are well-embedded in a Chinese context. The framework therefore offers concrete, practical suggestions for the competencies and skills that nursing graduates will need to work in current and future professions related to gerontological nursing education and practice.

RESUMO

The first example of cyclization cross-coupling of tryptophols and tryptamines has been realized by copper catalysis with air or oxone as the terminal oxidant, resulting in the direct construction of a new class of heterocyclic 3a,3a'-bisindolines in moderate to good yields with high chemoselectivities. A series of mechanistic control experiments were also conducted, indicating that the copper catalyst selectively coordinates with the nitrogen moiety of the tryptamine to initiate the oxidation, and a nucleophilic-alkylation process is proposed for the carbon-carbon bond-forming in the reaction. The novel synthetic strategies and molecular skeletons outlined in this work provide new ideas and concepts for the design of other useful reaction and potential drugs.

RESUMO

Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) patients with positive anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibody.Methods:A total of 194 hospitalized IIM patients who were tested for myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) in the Departments of Rheumatology and Immunology of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from January 2015 to September 2020 were collected, including 29 cases with positive anti-MDA5 antibody and 165 cases with negative anti-MDA5 antibody. Their clinical data were analyzed retrospectively. T test was used for measurement data with normal distribution. Measurement data with non-normal distribution were tested by Mann-Whitney U rank sum test. χ2 test was used for counting data. Risk factors were analyzed by binary Logistic regression, survival analysis by Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis. Results:IIM patients with positive anti-MDA5 antibody had a high incidence of dermatomyositis specific skin rash, and the skin rash was the most common presenting symptom. In the positive anti-MDA5 antibody group, muscle symptoms were mild; and the patients were prone to have fever, arthritis, oral ulcer and weight loss. All patients were complicated with interstitial lung disease (ILD). In patients with negative anti-MDA5 antibody, white blood cell (WBC) count [7.59(5.61, 9.89)×10 9/L vs 4.07(3.17, 5.50×10 9/L, Z=-5.05, P<0.001], platelet (PLT) [249.00 (200.00, 302.00)×10 9/L vs 205.00 (178.00, 244.00)×10 9/L, Z=-2.59, P=0.010], lymphocyte (LY) [1.34(0.85, 1.94)×10 9/L vs 0.64(0.40, 0.83)×10 9/L, Z=-5.78, P<0.001), serum creatine kinase (CK) [558.00 (72.00, 2 959.00) U/L vs 64.00 (35.00, 149.50) U/L, Z=-3.97, P<0.001], creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB) [38.00 (17.00, 127.00) U/L vs 16.00 (14.00, 25.00) U/L, Z=-3.84, P<0.001], myoglobin (MYO) [243.65 (60.50, 829.83) ng/ml vs 34.55(21.00, 104.23) ng/ml, Z=-3.98, P<0.001], troponin T (TnT) [0.09(0.03, 0.44) ng/ml vs 0.02(0.01, 0.04) ng/ml, Z=-4.17, P<0.001], albumin (ALB) [34.00(30.00, 38.00) g/L vs 31.00 (26.50, 36.00) g/L, Z=-2.68, P=0.007], cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) + T cells [498.00(276.00, 752.00) cells/μl vs 259.50 (179.00, 498.25) cells/μl, Z=-2.79, P=0.005], partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO 2) [39.00(36.13, 42.00) mmHg vs 35.35 (31.30, 38.88) mmHg, Z=-3.75, P<0.001], partial pressure of oxygen (PaO 2) [82.00(71.90, 90.20) mmHg vs 73.25(64.30, 84.05) mmHg, Z=-2.08, P=0.037], arterial oxygen saturation (SaO 2) [96.50% (95.05%, 97.30)% vs 95.80%(93.70%, 96.55%), Z=-2.11, P=0.035], diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide of the Lung (DLco) [(63±21) % vs (52±14)%, t=0.96, P=0.006] were significantly reduced, while UTP [260.50 (172.25, 401.25) g vs 331.00 (252.75, 666.25) g, Z=-2.18, P=0.029], alanine aminotransferase (ALT) [40.00 (21.00, 83.00) U/L vs 56.00(40.00, 107.50), Z=-2.27, P=0.023], glutamyltranspeptidas (GGT) [22.50(15.00, 42.00) U/L vs 57.00 (38.00, 101.50) U/L, Z=-4.98, P<0.001], D-Dimer [850.00 (485.00, 1 799.50) ng/ml vs 1 346.00 (896.50, 2 527.00) ng/ml, Z=-2.55, P=0.011], immunoglobulin (Ig)E [60.00 (25.60, 147.50) U/ml vs 173.00(68.25, 471.50) U/ml, Z=-3.06, P=0.002], C4[20.25(16.68, 25.03) mg/L vs 23.60(20.20, 28.35) mg/L, Z=-2.38, P=0.017], Fer [228.01 (115.40, 513.36) ng/ml vs 1 636.39 (851.80, 3 888.82) ng/ml, Z=-6.01, P<0.001], krebsvondenlungen-6 (KL-6) [365.00 (180.25, 1 018.75) U/ml vs 788.00 (406.00, 1 364.00) U/ml, Z=-2.10, P=0.035] were higher when compared to patients with positive anti-MDA5 antibody. In the anti-MDA5 antibody positive group, patients had high mortality rate [8.5%(14/165) vs 34.5%(10/29), χ2=13.07, P<0.001], and the use of intravenous immunoglobulin [32.7%(54/165) vs 65.5%(19/29), χ2=11.30, P=0.001] and steroid pulse therapy [4.8%(86/165) vs 27.6%(8/29), χ2=13.98, P<0.001] were more frequent. Patients in the positive anti-MDA5 antibody group were classified into two sub groups based on lung features: the rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) group (48.28%, 14/29) and the chronic interstitial lung disease (C-ILD) group (51.72%, 15/29). RP-ILD patients had significantly elder disease onset age, higher C-reaction protein (CRP), Fer, IgE levels and the positive rate of anti-Ro52 antibody, while ALT was lower. The difference was statistically significant. Regression analysis suggested that older onset age [ HR (95% CI)=1.154 (1.069, 1.246), P<0.001], male [ HR(95% CI)=6.383(1.038, 39.242), P=0.045], positive anti-MDA5 antibody [ HR(95% CI)=17.180 (2.900, 101.766), P=0.002], LY decrease [ HR (95% CI)=0.083 (0.008, 0.817), P=0.033], high serum Fer level [ HR (95% CI)=1.001(1.000, 1.001), P=0.016], increased D-Dimer [ HR(95% CI)=1.000(1.000, 1.001), P=0.004] and compicated with carcinoma [ HR (95% CI)=11.849 (1.978, 70.970), P=0.007] were independent risk factors for death in IIM patients. Binary logistic regression analysis suggested that late onset age [ OR(95% CI)=1.090 (1.005, 1.183), P=0.038], high Fer level [ OR (95% CI)=1.001 (1.000, 1.001), P=0.022] and decreased ALB [ OR (95% CI)=0.818 (0.696, 0.963), P=0.016] might be risk factors for RP-ILD in patients with positive anti-MDA5 antibody. Conclusion:In patients with positive anti-MDA5 antibody group, typical skin damage, mild muscle symptoms, high proportion of ILD and poor prognosis are chardcteristic when compared to patients without this autoantibody. It is necessary to monitor the disease activity closely and explore the treatment strategy.

RESUMO

The outbreak of severe pneumonia at the end of 2019 was proved to be caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus spreading out the world. And COVID-19 spread rapidly through a terrible transmission way by human-to-human, which led to many suspected cases waiting to be diagnosed and huge daily samples needed to be tested by an effective and rapid detection method. With an increasing number of COVID-19 infections, medical pressure is severe. Therefore, more efficient and accurate diagnosis methods were keen urgently established. In this review, we summarized several methods that can rapidly and sensitively identify COVID-19; some of them are widely used as the diagnostic techniques for SARS-CoV-2 in various countries, some diagnostic technologies refer to SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) or/and MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) detection, which may provide potential diagnosis ideas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Limited understanding of pruritus mechanisms in cholestatic liver diseases hinders development of antipruritic treatments. Previous studies implicated lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) as a potential mediator of cholestatic pruritus. METHODS: Pruritogenicity of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), LPA's precursor, was examined in naïve mice, cholestatic mice, and nonhuman primates. LPC's pruritogenicity involving keratinocyte TRPV4 was studied using genetic and pharmacologic approaches, cultured keratinocytes, ion channel physiology, and structural computational modeling. Activation of pruriceptor sensory neurons by microRNA-146a (miR-146a), secreted from keratinocytes, was identified by in vitro and ex vivo Ca2+ imaging assays. Sera from patients with primary biliary cholangitis were used for measuring the levels of LPC and miR-146a. RESULTS: LPC was robustly pruritic in mice. TRPV4 in skin keratinocytes was essential for LPC-induced itch and itch in mice with cholestasis. Three-dimensional structural modeling, site-directed mutagenesis, and channel function analysis suggested a TRPV4 C-terminal motif for LPC binding and channel activation. In keratinocytes, TRPV4 activation by LPC induced extracellular release of miR-146a, which activated TRPV1+ sensory neurons to cause itch. LPC and miR-146a levels were both elevated in sera of patients with primary biliary cholangitis with itch and correlated with itch intensity. Moreover, LPC and miR-146a were also increased in sera of cholestatic mice and elicited itch in nonhuman primates. CONCLUSIONS: We identified LPC as a novel cholestatic pruritogen that induces itch through epithelia-sensory neuron cross talk, whereby it directly activates skin keratinocyte TRPV4, which rapidly releases miR-146a to activate skin-innervating TRPV1+ pruriceptor sensory neurons. Our findings support the new concept of the skin, as a sensory organ, playing a critical role in cholestatic itch, beyond liver, peripheral sensory neurons, and central neural pathways supporting pruriception.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide, especially in Asia and Africa. However, the underlying mechanism is still unclear. Consequently, it is important to explore its key genes and prognosis-related genes via bioinformatics. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of HCC by using bioinformatics analysis for HCC gene chip data. METHODS: Microarray data of HCC genes were downloaded from public GEO database and screened for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) by GEO2R analysis. Then DAVID online tool was used for GO annotation and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. STRING-DB online database and Cytoscape software were used for protein interaction network analysis.GEPIA and Ualcan were applied to evaluate prognosis and promoter methylation level. RESULTS: A total of 87 DEGs of HCC were screened, of which 15 genes were up-regulated and 72 genes were down-regulated. GO annotation indicated that most of the genes were involved in oxidation reduction, cellular amino acid derivative metabolic process, carboxylic acid catabolic process, and response to wounding. KEGG pathways were enriched in linoleic acid metabolism, retinol metabolism, complement and coagulation cascades, steroid hormone biosynthesis, drug metabolism, and other pathways. Two key modules and key genes AURKA and SPP2 were obtained by protein interaction network analysis. Prognostic analysis showed that the 2 genes were significantly correlated with the total survival time of patients with HCC. There was no significant difference in the methylation level of AURKA promoter between the primary tumor group and the normal group (P=0.296) and the methylation level of SPP2 promoter was significantly lower in the primary tumor group than that in the normal group (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: HCC-relevant AURKA and SPP2 are obtained via bioinformatics analysis, which are closely related to the prognosis of patients with HCC. Gene promoter methylation is not the main factor for AURKA and SPP2 expression levels.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis, mainly B or C, increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma and remains an emerging issue in the globe. China has high rates of liver cancer incidence and mortality in the world. To address such challenges, adequate management of chronic hepatitis is required. Self-management education is one alternative for improving the hepatitis patients' knowledge of the disease, mental health, and clinical management. This study aimed to examine the quality of life (QOL), psychological effects, and behavioral changes of a self-management program which allows continuity of care for chronic hepatitis B and C patients. METHOD: In a six-month, randomized controlled trial, we invited 73 chronic hepatitis B/C inpatients to receive (i) two face-to-face education sessions provided by a nurse during hospitalization, and monthly telephone counseling at home after discharge; (ii) or usual care treatment (control group). The primary endpoint (patients' QOL) and secondary outcomes (including self-efficacy, depression symptoms, perceived cognition of illness and behavioral changes) were assessed. In addition, we conducted qualitative data analysis to facilitate the evaluation of the interventions. RESULTS: Sixty (82.2%) out of 73 eligible patients with chronic hepatitis B/C (aged 34.9 ± 8.9 years) participated in the study. The intervention group (n = 30) significantly improved on outcomes including QOL, self-efficacy, perceived cognition of illness, and behavioral changes, whereas the control group significantly decreased their healthy behaviors. In terms of behavioral changes, alcohol avoidance, dietary adherence, and stress management also improved in the intervention group. However, there were no significant improvements in symptoms of depression. Most participants (80%) in the intervention group stated that they benefited from the program. CONCLUSIONS: This program contributed to patients' acquisition of self-management skills to cope with their illnesses, and significantly improved their QOL. This program serves as a reminder for nurses who care for patients with chronic viral hepatitis to acquire these skills as it would help them address the daily needs of their patients. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify a rare large off ladder (OL) allele at the Penta E locus. METHODS: Chelex-100 was used to extract DNAs from the blood samples. The PCR fragments were purified, extracted, and subjected to TA cloning and sequencing. RESULTS: An OL allele was identified by the PowerPlex™ 21 at the Penta E locus, which was postulated as allele 26 based on assigned size. The OL allele was verified as a novel fragment containing 26 full AAAGA repeats. CONCLUSION: OL alleles and microvariants should be verified by direct sequencing. Typing of OL alleles has significance for both daily work and forensic genetics.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study genetic polymorphisms of 23 autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci among ethnic Han Chinese from southern China. METHODS: The 23 autosomal STR loci among 331 unrelated healthy Han Chinese from southern China were genotyped with fluorescent multiplex amplification and capillary electrophoresis. Genetic parameters were subjected to statistical analysis. RESULTS: In total 265 alleles and 890 genotypes were detected for the 23 STR loci. The numbers of alleles were 5-22, allelic frequency was 0.0015-0.5483, heterozygosity was 0.5891-0.9124, power of discrimination was 0.7818-0.9831, polymorphic information content was 0.5425-0.9031, probability of exclusion for trio-paternity testing was 0.2780-0.8208, and probability of exclusion for duo-paternity testing was 0.193-0.693. The combined power of discrimination was over 0.999 999 999 999 99, the combined probability of exclusion for trio-paternity identification was 0.999 999 999 729 813, and the combined probability of exclusion for duo-paternity identification was 0.999 999 207 508 474, respectively. The 23 STR loci showed no significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg disequilibrium after Bonferroni correction (P> 0.05). CONCLUSION: The 23 autosomal STR loci were highly polymorphic among ethnic Han Chinese from southern China, which showed a high efficiency for paternity testing, personal identification and population genetics.

RESUMO

Six undescribed C-geranylated flavonoids, including five C-geranylflavanones named as paucatalinones F - J, one C-geranylflavonol named as paucatalinone K, along with seven known geranylated flavanones, were isolated from the fruit peel of Paulownia catalpifolia T. Gong ex D.Y. Hong. Their structures were elucidated distinctly according to their UV, IR, MS, NMR, and CD data. Among them, two compounds were substituted with unusual modified geranyl groups, namely paucatalinone F with an oxygenated cyclogeranyl substituent and paucatalinone H with a terminal pyranoid geranyl substituent. Furthermore, the protective effects on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) injury induced by H2O2 were evaluated, and paucatalinone F showed the most potential activity. The bioactive results suggested that the geranyl substituent may be an important factor for restraining oxidative HUVECs damage and Paulownia C-geranylated flavonoids might have the potential for preventing cardiovascular complications.
