RESUMO

A systematic review of the marine littoral Cafiusbistriatus (Erichson) along the eastern Pacific and the western Atlantic coasts including the Caribbean Sea is presented based on morphological and molecular (COI and 28S) characters. Specimens of the Cafiusbistriatus species complex [C.bistriatus, C.rufifrons Bierig, and C.sulcicollis (LeConte)] are similar to each other, including the form and structure of the aedeagus, and they can be treated as cryptic species. Detailed micromorphological characters (SEM) and molecular analyses support the validity of these three species. Intraspecific genetic divergence of COI using uncorrected p-distance among individuals of Cafiusbistriatus ranged from 0% to 1.56%, while interspecific divergence among three species ranged from 4.90% to 14.59%. All three species were each supported as a single lineage using COI and 28S on both parsimony and maximum likelihood trees. Morphological characters among C.bistriatus, C.rufifrons, and C.sulcicollis are compared. Cafiusbistriatusfulgens Frank is synonymized under C.bistriatus and Cafiusbistriatus is redescribed with illustrations of diagnostic characters.

RESUMO

A taxonomic study of the intertidal Thinobius Kiesenwetter in Korea is presented. Three species are recognized, two of which are identified as new species (Thinobius jejuensis Lee Ahn, sp. n. and Thinobius koreanus Lee Yoo, sp. n.) and Thinobius kuroshio (Sawada) is recorded for the first time in Korea. A key, descriptions, habitus photographs, and line drawings of diagnostic characters of these three species are provided to facilitate identification.

RESUMO

Stress urinary incontinence restricts the quality of life of affected individuals. To restore continence and increase the quality of life in a long term, the currently applied surgical treatment methods for more severe cases are not sufficient. To support the development of a novel intraurethral artificial sphincter with the goal to replace current systems, a test bench is developed, which simulates the lower urinary tract with regards to its urodynamics. To verify the ability of the implant to maintain continence and allow undisturbed micturition, pressure and flow conditions of the lower urinary tract are reproduced, with the option to automatically conduct test cycles.Clinical relevance- The developed test bench accurately replicates the urodynamics of the lower urinary tract and therefore allows the validation of intraurethral systems.

RESUMO

Amblopusa vancouverensis Yoo Ahn, sp. nov. is described from Vancouver Island, Canada. The new species is compared with closely related species, A. brevipes Casey. Amblopusa brevipes is redescribed and the taxonomic characters of mouthparts and genitalia of both sexes are discussed and illustrated. New distributional record of A. brevipes for Agattu Island (the Aleutian Islands) is provided.

RESUMO

In a recent publication (Yoo Ahn, 2020), a holotype depository was not clearly indicated for the new species, Amblopusa vancouverensis Yoo Ahn, 2020. In this paper we provide the missing type depository with a diagnosis of Amblopusa vancouverensis sp. nov. in order to validate the name under the conditions required by the ICZN (1999: Article 16.4.2).

RESUMO

AIMS: Device sizing for LAA closure using transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) can be challenging due to complex LAA anatomy. We investigated whether the use of 3D-printed left atrial appendage (LAA) models based on preprocedural computed tomography (CT) permits accurate device sizing. METHODS AND RESULTS: Twenty-two (22) patients (73±8 years, 55% male) with atrial fibrillation requiring anticoagulation at high bleeding risk underwent LAA closure (WATCHMAN device). Preprocedurally, LAA was sized by TEE and third-generation dual-source CT. Based on CT, 3D printing models of LAA anatomy were created for simulation of device implantation. Device compression was assessed in a CT scan of the 3D model with the implanted device. Implantation was successful in all patients. Mean LAA ostium diameter based on TEE was 22±4 mm and based on CT 25±3 mm (p=0.014). Predicted device size based on simulated implantation in the 3D model was equal to the device finally implanted in 21/22 patients (95%). TEE would have undersized the device in 10/22 patients (45%). Device compression determined in the 3D-CT model corresponded closely with compression upon implantation (16±3% vs. 18±5%, r=0.622, p=0.003). CONCLUSIONS: Patient-specific CT-based 3D printing models may assist device selection and prediction of device compression in the context of interventional LAA closure.

RESUMO

A redescription with illustrations of the species Lyrosoma pallidum and a key to the Korean species of the family Agyrtidae are provided. New distributional data, including a range extension, of the two Lyrosoma Mannerheim species are presented. Lyrosoma pallidum (Eschscholtz) is recorded for the first time in Korea.
