RESUMO

Four new dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, chikusetsusaponin FT(1) (1), chikusetsusaponin FT(2) (2), chikusetsusaponin FT(3) (3), chikusetsusaponin FT(4) (4), and six known triterpenoid saponins, chikusetsusaponin FK(4) (8), chikusetsusaponin FK(5) (9), chikusetsusaponin FK(2) (10), chikusetsusaponin FK(3) (11), chikusetsusaponin LN(4) (12), and chikusetsusaponin IVa (14), were isolated from the fruits of Panax japonicus C. A. MEYER, collected in Toyama prefecture, Japan, and five new dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, chikusetsusaponin FT(1) (1), chikusetsusaponin FT(3) (3), chikusetsusaponin FT(4) (4), chikusetsusaponin FH(1) (5), chikusetsusaponin FH(2) (6), and eight known triterpenoid saponins, ginsenoside Re (7), chikusetsusaponin FK(5) (9), chikusetsusaponin FK(2) (10), chikusetsusaponin FK(3) (11), chikusetsusaponin LN(4) (12), 28-desglucosylchikusetsusaponin IVa (13), chikusetsusaponin IVa (14), and chikusetsusaponin V (15), were isolated from the fruits of P. japonicus C. A. MEYER, collected in Hokkaido, Japan. The structures of new chikusetsusaponins were elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidences.

RESUMO

The symbiosis between Armillaria species and an achlorophylous orchid Gastrodia elata BLUME has been reported. The main species described as a symbiont is Armillaria mellea (VAHL: FR.) KUMMER, known widely as a primary root rot pathogen. Samples collected from the rhizomorphs attached to the tuber of G. elata were separated and analyzed. Molecular analysis based on sequencing of the intergenic spacer 1 (IGS-1) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) was performed, coupled with restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of the IGS-1 region. Cultural morphology and features of basidiomata were also used to characterize the isolates. Phylogenetic analysis and morphological data strongly suggested that the fungus present in the tubers of G. elata is Armillaria nabsnona. This is the first report of occurrence of this Armillaria species in association with G. elata.

RESUMO

Two Daphniphyllum alkaloids with unprecedented polycyclic skeletons, daphnicyclidins J (1) and K (2), have been isolated from the stems of Daphniphyllum humile, and the structures and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. The absolute stereochemistry of 1 was established by chemical correlation with a known-related alkaloid, daphnicyclidin D (3), through a modified Polonovski reaction.

RESUMO

A novel alkaloid with an unprecedented fused-pentacyclic skeleton and six-consecutive asymmetric centers, cephalocyclidin A (1), has been isolated from the fruits of Cephalotaxus harringtonia var. nana, and the structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. The relative and absolute stereochemistry of 1 was determined by a combination of NOESY correlations, X-ray crystallographic data, and the exciton chirality method.
