Prior studies have investigated the immediate impacts of substances on temporal perception, the impact of temporal outlook, and the consequences of modified temporal perception on addictive behaviors. These inquiries have provided valuable perspectives on the intricate associations between addiction and time perception, enriching the groundwork for forthcoming research and therapeutic strategies. This comprehensive review aims to further explore intricate correlation among diverse addictive substances-namely alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, opioids-and non-substance addictions such as internet gaming, elucidating their influence on temporal perception. Adhering to the PICOS method and adhering to PRISMA guidelines, we systematically reviewed and critically evaluated all existing research concerning temporal perception in individuals with substance and non-substance use disorders. Specifically, our analyses involved 31 pertinent articles encompassing six unique groups-alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, stimulants, opioids, and internet-related addictions-sourced from a pool of 551 papers. The findings revealed differences in time perception between addicts and control groups, as indicated by medium to large effect sizes (Hedge's g = 0.8, p < 0.001). However, the nature of these differences-whether they predominantly involve time overestimation or underestimation-is not yet definitively clear. This variability underscores the complexity of the relationship between addiction and temporal perception, paving the way for further research to unravel these intricate dynamics.

The research aims to study the therapeutic impact of HEK293-XPack-Olig2 cell-derived exosomes on remyelination of the corpus callosum in a cuprizone-induced demyelinating disease model. A lentiviral vector expressing Olig2 was constructed using XPack technology. The highly abundant Olig2 exosomes (ExoOs) were isolated by centrifugation for subsequent experiments. Western blot, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), and electron microscopy showed no significant difference in particle size and morphology between Exos and ExoOs, and a high level of Olig2 expression could be detected in ExoOs, indicating that exosome modification by XPack technology was successful. The Black Gold/Fluromyelin staining analysis showed that the ExoOs group significantly reduced the demyelination area in the corpus callosum compared to the PBS and Exos groups. Additionally, the PDGFRα/APC staining of the demyelinating region revealed an increase in APC+ oligodendrocytes and a decrease in PDGFRα+ oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) in the ExoOs group. Furthermore, there was evident myelin regeneration in the demyelinated areas after ExoOs treatment, with better g-ratio and a higher number of intact myelin compared to the other treatment groups. The level of Sox10 expression in the brain tissue of the ExoOs group were higher compared to those of the PBS and Exos groups. The demyelination process can be significantly slowed down by the XPack-modified exosomes, the differentiation of OPCs promoted, and myelin regeneration accelerated under pathological conditions. This process is presumed to be achieved by changing the expression level of intracellular differentiation-related genes after exosomes transport Olig2 enriched into oligodendrocyte progenitors.

INTRODUCTION: Moderate hydrogen peroxide postconditioning (H2O2PoC) activates signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) to alleviate mitochondrial calcium overload during cardiac ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). However, the initial time window of STAT3-induced calcium hemostasis, the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in H2O2PoC, and its regulated mechanism remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate H2O2PoC-induced homeostasis of calcium, ROS and ATP, and the role of STAT3 in the regulation. METHODS: Isolated rat cardiomyocytes were exposed to H2O2PoC and Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/STAT3 inhibitor AG490 during I/R. Ca2+ transients, cell contraction, intracellular calcium concentration, ROS production, ATP contents, phosphorylation of STAT3, gene and protein expression of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), metallothionein 1 (MT1) and metallothionein 2 (MT2), as well as activities of mitochondrial complex I and complex II were detected. RESULTS: Moderate H2O2PoC improved post-ischemic Ca2+ transients and cell contraction recovery as well as alleviated cytosolic and mitochondrial calcium overload, which were abrogated by AG490 in rat cardiomyocytes. Moderate H2O2PoC increased ROS production and rate of ROS production at early reperfusion in rat I/R cardiomyocytes, and this phenomenon was also abrogated by AG490. Notably, the expression of phosphorylated nuclear STAT3; gene and protein expression of MnSOD, MT1, and MT2; and activities of mitochondrial complex I and complex II were upregulated by moderate H2O2PoC but downregulated by AG490. CONCLUSION: These findings indicated that the cardioprotection of moderate H2O2PoC against cardiac I/R could be associated with activated STAT3 at early reperfusion to maintain calcium, ROS, and ATP homeostasis in rat cardiomyocytes.
