RESUMO

The immune system responds vigorously to microbial infection while permitting lifelong colonization by the microbiome. Mechanisms that facilitate the establishment and stability of the gut microbiota remain poorly described. We found that a regulatory system in the prominent human commensal Bacteroides fragilis modulates its surface architecture to invite binding of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in mice. Specific immune recognition facilitated bacterial adherence to cultured intestinal epithelial cells and intimate association with the gut mucosal surface in vivo. The IgA response was required for B. fragilis (and other commensal species) to occupy a defined mucosal niche that mediates stable colonization of the gut through exclusion of exogenous competitors. Therefore, in addition to its role in pathogen clearance, we propose that IgA responses can be co-opted by the microbiome to engender robust host-microbial symbiosis.

RESUMO

Mononuclear complex of Zn(II) with a new bis-Schiff base ligand derived from 2,3-butanedione and thiosemicarbazide, [Zn(II)L.H2O].2DMF [L = (2E,2'E)-2,2'-(butane-2,3-diylidene)bis(hydrazinecarbothioamide)], and other transition metal ions [Cu(II), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II)] complexes have been prepared. The Zn(II) complex has been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Among the five complexes, the Cu(II) complex has the novel highest antitumor activity.

RESUMO

Three five-component architectures, compounds 3, 4, and 5 were obtained by self-assembly of tripodal 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl )-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene (6) and 1,3,5-tris(benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl)benzene (7) ligands with silver(I) salts. The structures of these novel complexes have been determined by X-ray crystallography. The results of structural analysis indicate that these frameworks have same M3L2 components, but different structures. Compounds 3 and 4 are both M3L2 type cage-like complexes, while the 5 is an open trinuclear complex. The complex 3 is a cylindrical cage with simultaneous inclusion of a perchlorate anion inside of the cage as a guest molecule. Such guests can be exchanged for other anions through the open edge of the cage as evidenced by crystal structure of 4. The results demonstrate that the molecular M3L2 type cage can act as a host for anions and provide a nice example of supramolecular architectures with interesting properties and possible applications.

RESUMO

Each Eu3+ ion in the title compound, catena-poly[europium(III)-tri-mu-4-methylbenzoato-O:O,O';O:O,O';O,O':O'], [[Eu(C8H7O2)3]3]n, is coordinated by nine O atoms, and three Eu atoms form a trimeric unit. These trimeric units are linked by bridging-chelating carboxylates to form an infinite one-dimensional polymer chain.

RESUMO

The new heteronuclear iminodiacetic acid (H2L) complexes [LnCu6(mu 3-OH)3(HL)2(L)4](ClO4)(2).25H2O with Ln = La (1) and Tb (2) have been prepared in aqueous solution and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction to be isomorphous (crystallographic data for 1 and 2: hexagonal, P63/m; a = b = 12.6425(14) A, c = 24.541(5) A, Z = 2 (1); a = b = 12.5802(9) A, c = 24.285(4) A, Z = 2 (2)). Ln3+ was found to be located in the center of the trigonal prismatic cage formed by six Cu2+ ions, with a tricapped trigonal prismatic coordination environment of nine O atoms. The magnetic properties of complexes 1 and 2 have been studied. The results indicate the presence of ferromagnetic couplings between Tb3+ and Cu2+ in compound 2.

RESUMO

A novel molecular-based magnet of three-dimensional (3-D) cyanide-bridged bimetallic assembly, [[Ni(tn)2]5[FeII(CN)6]3]n(ClO4)n.2.5nH2O where tn = trimethylenediamine, was synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound with an asymmetric unit of C24H52.5Cl0.5Fe1.5N19Ni2.5O3.255 crystallized in the monoclinic system of the space group P2(1)/n with a = 10.173(3) A, b = 16.053(2) A, c = 26.309(3) A, beta = 91.30(2) degrees, and Z = 4. The assembly has a 3-D network structure extended by three different types of FeIII-CN-NiII-NC-FeIII linkages. The iron (FeIII) atoms are located in two different chemical environments, which were confirmed by Mössbauer experimental results. The nickel (NiII) atoms have three different coordination environments. Cryomagnetic properties revealed that 3-D magnetic ordering occurs over the lattice below the Curie temperature around 10 K.

RESUMO

A new sesquiterpenoid, named gloesteretriol, C15H26O3, mp 205-206 degrees C, [alpha]22D + 5.6 degrees (c 0.115, EtOH), was isolated from the fermentation products of Gloeostereum incarnatum S. Ito et Imai.. On the basis of spectral analysis its structure was deduced as I and confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis.

RESUMO

The crystal structures of [Pt(NH3)2CPrDCA].H2O (I), [Pt(CH3NH2)2CPrDCA] (II), and [Pt(dmbn) CPrDCA].2.5H2O (III) (where CPrDCA is 1,1-cyclopropanedicarboxylate; dmbn is 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-butyldiamine) are determined. Compound I crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with the cell dimensions: a = 6.517(2), b = 9.709(3), c = 14.205(5) A, Z = 4, R = 0.058. Compound II is monoclinic with space group P2(1)/n, a = 9.648(3), b = 8.720(2), c = 12.770(4) A, beta = 107.12(2), Z = 4, R = 0.059. Compound III belongs to the monoclinic system space group P2(1)/m with the cell dimensions: a = 6.494(1), b = 19.638(3), c = 6.606(1)A, beta = 94.44(1), Z = 2, R = 0.038. Electronic structures of the complexes are studied and the correlation between structure of the amine ligands and biological activity of the complexes is explored.
