RESUMO

Marine bacterioplankton play a crucial role in the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in coastal waters. And the impact of environmental factors on bacterial community structure and ecological functions is a dynamic ongoing process. To systematically assess the relationship between environmental changes and bacterioplankton communities, this study delved into the spatiotemporal distribution and predicted metabolic characteristics of bacterioplankton communities at two estuarine beaches in Northern China. Coastal water samples were collected regularly in spring, summer, and autumn, and were analyzed in combination with environmental parameters and bacterioplankton community. Results indicated significant seasonal variations in bacterioplankton communities as Bacteroidetes and Actinobacteria were enriched in spring, Cyanobacteria proliferated in summer. While Pseudomonadota and microorganisms associated with organic matter decomposition prevailed in autumn, closely linked to seasonal variation of temperature, light and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Particularly in summer, increased tourism activities and riverine inputs significantly raised nutrient levels, promoting the proliferation of specific photosynthetic microorganisms, potentially linked to the occurrence of phytoplankton blooms. Spearman correlation analysis further revealed significant correlations between bacterioplankton communities and environmental factors such as salinity, chlorophyll a, and total dissolved phosphorus (TDP). Additionally, the metabolic features of the spring bacterioplankton community were primarily characterized by enhanced activities in the prokaryotic carbon fixation pathways, reflecting rapid adaptation to increased light and temperature, as well as significant contributions to primary productivity. In summer, the bacterial communities were involved in enhanced glycolysis and biosynthetic pathways, reflecting high energy metabolism and responses to increased light and biomass. In autumn, microorganisms adapted to the accelerated decomposition of organic matter and the seasonal changes in environmental conditions through enhanced amino acid metabolism and material cycling pathways. These findings demonstrate that seasonal changes and human activities significantly influence the structure and function of bacterioplankton communities by altering nutrient dynamics and physical environmental conditions. This study provides important scientific insights into the marine biological responses under global change.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Dichoptic training has emerged as a promising rehabilitation approach for improving binocular visual function in patients with strabismus. A prospective observational study design was employed to assess the effectiveness of online video game-based dichoptic training in rehabilitating binocular visual function in patients who had undergone an operation for intermittent exotropia. METHODS: A total of 64 patients who had undergone an operation for intermittent exotropia were recruited and divided into the training group and the control group based on whether they would receive the dichoptic training. The dichoptic training was conducted for 3 months in the training group and the control group would not accept any form of orthoptic therapy. Assessments of binocular visual functions and deviation were conducted at baseline, 3-month and 6-month follow-up. RESULTS: Twenty-nine participants in the training group (mean 9.69 ± 2.66 years old) and 26 participants in the control group (mean 8.41 ± 2.64 years old) completed follow-up. At both 3- and 6-month follow-ups, the training group showed superior distance stereopsis compared to the control group, with near stereopsis only showing significant difference at the 6-month follow-up. Additionally, the training group exhibited significantly less distance exo-deviation drift than the control group at these times, and no significant difference was observed in near exo-deviation drift between the groups. The control group had a significantly higher rate of suboptimal surgical outcomes at both the 3- and 6-month follow-up. However, no significant differences were observed in simultaneous perception and fusion functions between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Online video game-based dichoptic training has the potential to become a novel postoperative rehabilitation strategy for patients with intermittent exotropia.

RESUMO

Oil spill and microplastic (MP) pollution are the main problems in the marine environment. After an oil spill, the oil film may be dispersed into the water column in the form of droplets under the action of ocean waves. In this study, the sea condition was simulated through the batch conical flask oscillation experiment. Merey crude oil was selected as experimental oil, and polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) were used as experimental MP. The effects of MP properties (type, concentration and size) on the dispersion of spilled oil were investigated. It is found that for each MP, the oil dispersion efficiency (ODE) increased rapidly at first and then tended to be stable, which all reached the maximum at 360 min. When the concentrations of PE and PS increased from 0 to 100 mg/L, the maximum ODE decreased from 32.64 % to 13.72 % and 10.75 %, respectively, indicating that the presence of MP inhibits the oil dispersion. At the same oscillation time, the volumetric mean diameter (VMD) of dispersed oil increased with the MP concentration. When the particle size of PE and PS increased from 13 to 1000 µm, the maximum ODE increased from 24.74 % to 31.49 % and 28.60 %, respectively. However, the VMD decreased with the size of MP. In addition, the time series of the oil adsorption rate by the MP were well fitted by the kinetic models. The results of this research deepen the understanding of the migration law of spilled oil to the marine environment in the presence of MP, and may further improve the ability of marine environmental scientists to predict the fate of oil spill.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess and compare the composition of tongue coating microbiota among patients at different stages of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: A total of 47 patients diagnosed with RA, as per the American College of Rheumatology criteria, and 10 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. The RA patients were stratified considering their Disease Activity Score 28 (DAS28), a composite measure based on the 28 tender and swollen joint count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The study population was further categorized into active phase group (LMH group) and inactive phase group (RE group) according to their DAS28 values. DNA extraction was extracted from tongue coating samples. Subsequently, the V3-V4 16S rDNA region was selectively amplified and sequenced through high-throughput 16S rDNA analysis. The resulting data were then utilized to ascertain the microbial contents. RESULTS: Significant variations were observed in the tongue coating microbiota of patients with RA during active and inactive phases, in comparison to healthy individuals (p < 0.05). At the genus level, the presence of Prevotellan, Veillonella, Rothia, and Neisseria in RA patients was notably more evident than in the healthy control (HC) group. These disparities find support in existing research on gut and oral microbiota. During the active phase of RA, the relative abundance of Veillonella, Rothia, and Neisseria in the tongue coating microbiota of patients was significantly higher than in those with inactive RA. These findings underscore the need for further and in-depth research on the potential impact of these microorganisms on the progression of RA disease. CONCLUSION: The results substantiate the hypothesis that tongue coating microbes actively contribute to the progression of RA.

RESUMO

Purpose: To evaluate the longitudinal changes in subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) in children with different refractive status. Methods: A total of 2290 children 3 to 14 years old who attended the first year of kindergarten (G0), first year of primary school (G1), fourth year of primary school (G4), or first year of junior high school (G7) in Guangzhou, China, were recruited and followed up for 2 years. All participants received cycloplegic autorefraction, axial length measurement and SFCT measurement using a CIRRUS HD-OCT device. Children were divided into groups of persistent non-myopia (PNM), persistent myopia (PM), or newly developed myopia (NDM). Children in the PNM and PM groups were further divided into subgroups of stable refraction (absolute mean annual spherical equivalent refraction [SER] change < 0.5 D) and refractive progression (absolute mean annual SER change ≥ 0.5 D). Results: The mean ± SD ages for the G1 to G7 cohorts were 3.89 ± 0.30, 6.79 ± 0.47, 9.71 ± 0.34, and 12.54 ± 0.38, years, respectively. SFCT consistently decreased in the NDM group across the G1 to G7 cohorts (all P < 0.001) and exhibited variability across different age cohorts in the PNM and PM groups. Further subgroup analysis revealed significant thickening of SFCT in the PNM-stable group among the G0, G1, and G7 cohorts (all P < 0.05), whereas it remained stable among all cohorts in the PM-stable group (all P > 0.05). Conversely, SFCT exhibited thinning in the G4 and G7 cohorts in the PM-progressive group (both P < 0.01) and for the entire cohort of children in the PNM-progressive group (P = 0.012). Conclusions: SFCT increased in nonmyopic children with stable refraction, remained stable in myopic children maintained stable refraction, and decreased in those with refractive progression, whether they were myopic or not.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that children with intermittent exotropia (IXT) have a higher rate of psychiatric abnormalities as they grow up, such as attention deficit. This study explored visual and hearing attention among children with IXT, and evaluated its association with clinical characteristics and cognitive development. METHODS: Forty-nine children with a diagnosis of IXT and 29 children with traditional development were recruited. The Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA-CPT) was used to measure the subjects' full-scale response control quotient (FSRCQ), full-scale attention quotient (FSAQ), auditory response control quotient (ARCQ), auditory attention quotient (AAQ), visual response control quotient (VRCQ), and visual attention quotient (VAQ). The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) was used to assess their cognitive function. The differences between the scores of children with IXT and normal controls were analyzed. RESULTS: The results showed that the FSRCQ, FSAQ, ARCQ, AAQ, VRCQ, and VAQ of children with IXT were all lower than those of normal controls with the same age (P < 0.05). The level of attention was significantly correlated with the age of strabismus onset (P < 0.05), but not with the degree of strabismus, stereopsis, or fusion control score. In addition, audiovisual attention was correlated significantly with their cognitive development level. The random forest classifier prediction model showed that age of strabismus onset was an important predictor of attention. CONCLUSION: Children with IXT have lower visual and auditory attention and control than their peers, and the age of onset of strabismus may be a major factor.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Research on the effects of body mass index (BMI) on severe headache or migraine is limited and controversial. The aim of this study was to explore the association between BMI and the prevalence of migraine, with particular interest in diabetes status difference. METHODS: The present study used analyzed data from people who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2004. Logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were applied to investigate the relationship between body mass index and migraine. RESULTS: A total of 10,074 adults aged 20 years or older were included in this study. Body mass index was positively related to migraine, and the corresponding odds ratio (OR; 95% CI) was 1.02 (1.01, 1.03; p < 0.001). And compared to participants in the lowest group of body mass index (< 25 kg/m2), the adjusted ORs for migraine in medium group (25-29.9 kg/m2), and highest group (≥ 30 kg/m2) were 1.14 (95% CI: 0.98-1.32, p = 0.09) and 1.30 (95% CI: 1.11-1.52, p = 0.0022), respectively. The relationship between BMI and migraine exhibited a linear in overall in the RCS. Our findings also suggested an interaction between BMI and diabetes. The relationship between BMI and migraine in adults with diabetes was non-linear. The OR of developing migraine was 1.30 (95% CI: 1.10-1.54) in individuals with BMI ≥ 29.71 kg/m2 in adults with diabetes. CONCLUSION: A higher body mass index is significantly associated with an increased prevalence of migraine, and diabetes status can modify the association between them.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a prevalent global health issue that has been linked to an increased risk of depression. The objective of this study was to construct a nomogram model for predicting depression in T2DM patients. METHODS: A total of 4280 patients with T2DM were included in this study from the 2007-2014 NHANES. The entire dataset was split randomly into training set comprising 70 % of the data and a validation set comprising 30 % of the data. LASSO and multivariate logistic regression analyses identified predictors significantly associated with depression, and the nomogram was constructed with these predictors. The model was assessed by C-index, calibration curve, the hosmer-lemeshow test and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: The nomogram model comprised of 9 predictors, namely age, gender, PIR, BMI, education attainment, smoking status, LDL-C, sleep duration and sleep disorder. The C-index of the training set was 0.780, while that of the validation set was 0.752, indicating favorable discrimination for the model. The model exhibited excellent clinical applicability and calibration in both the training and validation datasets. Moreover, the cut-off value of the nomogram is 223. LIMITATIONS: This study has shortcomings in data collection, lack of external validation, and results non-extrapolation. CONCLUSIONS: Our nomogram exhibits high clinical predictability, enabling clinicians to utilize this tool in identifying high-risk depressed patients with T2DM. It has the potential to decrease the incidence of depression and significantly improve the prognosis of patients with T2DM.

RESUMO

Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin. Previous studies on dietary folate intake in severe headache patients were equivocal. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study to elucidate the relationship between folate intake and severe headache. This cross-sectional study used data from participants over 20 years old who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2004. The diagnosis of severe headache was made through participants' self-report in the NHANES questionnaire section. We performed multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression to explore the relationship between folate intake and severe headache. A total of 9859 participants took part in the study, 1965 of whom were severe headache patients and the rest were non-severe headache. We found that dietary folate intake was significantly and inversely associated with severe headache. Compared with participants with lower folate intake Q1 (≤ 229·97 ug/d), the adjusted OR values for dietary folate intake and severe headache in Q2 (229·98-337 ug/d), Q3 (337·01-485 ug/d) and Q4 (≥ 485·01 ug/d) were 0·81 (95 % CI: 0·67, 0·98, P = 0·03), 0·93 (95 % CI: 0·77, 1·12, P = 0·41) and 0·63 (95 % CI: 0·49, 0·80, P < 0·001), respectively. For women aged 20-50 years, there was a non-linear association between folate intake and severe headache in the RCS. Women aged 20-50 years should have higher awareness of dietary folate and increase their dietary intake of folate, which may aid in preventing severe headache.

RESUMO

The purpose of the study was to determine the associations of self-perception, motor skills, and clinical features of young school-age children with glaucoma (CG). This is a cross-sectional observational study. Children from preschool to second grade, including CG (N = 19), children with amblyopia (CA, N = 28), and controls (N = 32), completed the Manual Dexterity and Aiming and Catching Scales of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children-2nd edition (MABC-2), including Manual Dexterity, Aiming and Catching, and Balance. CG, CA, and their parent completed the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance for Young Children, respectively, assessing the child's cognitive competence, peer acceptance, physical competence, and maternal acceptance. The Kruskal-Wallis H test and Bonferroni post hoc test compared motor skills among groups. Spearman's correlation analysis evaluated the correlations between motor skills, self-perception, and clinical features. The CG reported lower peer acceptance than CA (P = 0.040), and the parents of CG reported lower cognitive competence than CG reported (P = 0.046). Compared with controls, CG had worse performance of Aiming and Catching, and Balance (P = 0.018 and P = 0.001), and CA had worse performance of Balance (P = 0.009). The motor skills were comparable between CG and CA. For CG, older age correlated with worse competence of Aiming and Catching (r = - 0.620, P = 0.005), better best-corrected visual acuity of better-seeing eye correlated with higher competence of Manual Dexterity and Balance (r = - 0.494, P = 0.032, and r = - 0.516, P = 0.024), and longer duration of glaucoma correlated with worse competence of Manual Dexterity (r = - 0.487, P = 0.034). CONCLUSION:  Glaucoma and amblyopia have significant negative impacts on children's daily motor skills. The acuity of a better-seeing eye is an important factor influencing motor movement. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier, ChiCTR2100050415. WHAT IS KNOWN: • The state of mental health in early childhood influences the development of their future personality and physical development. The prognosis and management of glaucoma may seriously impair the mental health development of the affected children. However, the exploration of psychological aspects and motor movement of childhood glaucoma was limited. WHAT IS NEW: • Children with glaucoma have impaired motor skills and self-perception development, especially in terms of peer socialization.

RESUMO

Previous studies have shown that B vitamins can relieve migraine. However, the association between vitamin B6 and folate, 2 important B vitamins consumed in the diet, with migraine have received minimal attention. This study explored the independent relationships between dietary vitamin B6 and folate intake with migraine and the interaction effect of these 2 nutrients on migraine in US adults. We hypothesized that vitamin B6 and folate intake would be inversely associated with migraine. This study included cross-sectional data from participants aged 20 years and older who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2004. We conducted multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline regression to explore the association between dietary vitamin B6 and folate intake on migraine. Also, relative excess risk due to interaction, attributable proportion of interaction, and synergy index were used to assess additive interactions. A total of 7017 participants were included in this study, 1350 of whom were migraineurs. We determined that vitamin B6 and folate intake revealed a negative association with severe headache or migraine (0.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.47-0.89; P = .01 and 0.57; 95% CI, 0.42-0.78; P = .002]), respectively. Also, a significant interaction effect between a high mass of vitamin B6 and folate intake was observed for a lower risk of migraine (relative excess risk due to interaction, 0.28 [95% CI, 0.05-0.51]; attributable proportion of interaction: 0.45 [95% CI, 0.05-0.86]; synergy index: 0.58 [95% CI, 0.40-0.83]). A high mass of vitamin B6 and folate intake (vitamin B6 intake ≥ 2.39 mg/day and folate intake ≥ 502.01 µg/day) presented a synergistic interaction with migraine, suggesting that these 2 nutrients might be beneficial in preventing migraine.

RESUMO

Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by a partial or complete reduction of melanin biosynthesis that leads to hypopigmentation in the skin, hair and eyes. The OCA1 subtype is caused by mutations in TYR. The purpose of this study was to investigate the genetic and clinical ophthalmic characteristics of TYR mutations in patients with OCA. Herein, 51 probands with a clinical diagnosis of OCA were enrolled. Whole-exome sequencing and comprehensive ophthalmic examinations were performed. Overall, TYR mutations were detected in 37.3% (19/51) in the patients with OCA. Fifteen patients had compound heterozygous variants, and four cases had homozygous variants. Eleven different pathogenic variants in TYR were detected in these 19 patients, with missense, insertion, delins and nonsense in 71.1% (27/38), 15.8% (6/38), 2.6% (1/38), and 10.5% (4/38), respectively. Clinical examinations revealed that 84.2% (16/19) of patients were OCA1A, and 15.8% (3/19) were OCA1B. Most TYR probands (52.6%, 10/19) had moderate vision impairment, 15.8% (3/19) had severe visual impairment, 10.5% (2/19) exhibited blindness, only 5.3% (1/19) had mild visual impairment and 15.8% (3/19) were not available. Photophobia and nystagmus were found in 100% (19/19) of the patients. In addition, grade 4 foveal hypoplasia was detected in 100% (12/12) of the patients. In conclusion: The TYR patients exhibited severe ocular phenotypes: the majority (93.8%, 15/16) of them had a moderate vision impairment or worse, and 100% (12/12) had severe grade 4 foveal hypoplasia. These novel findings could provide insight into the understanding of OCA.

RESUMO

As one of the key components of clinical trials, blinding, if successfully implemented, can help to mitigate the risks of implementation bias and measurement bias, consequently improving the validity and reliability of the trial results. However, successful blinding in clinical trials of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is hard to achieve, and the evaluation of blinding success through blinding assessment lacks established guidelines. Taking into account the challenges associated with blinding in the TCM field, here we present a framework for assessing blinding. Further, this study proposes a blinding assessment protocol for TCM clinical trials, building upon the framework and the existing methods. An assessment report checklist and an approach for evaluating the assessment results are presented based on the proposed protocol. It is anticipated that these improvements to blinding assessment will generate greater awareness among researchers, facilitate the standardization of blinding, and augment the blinding effectiveness. The use of this blinding assessment may further advance the quality and precision of TCM clinical trials and improve the accuracy of the trial results. The blinding assessment protocol will undergo continued optimization and refinement, drawing upon expert consensus and experience derived from clinical trials. RESUMO

Marine oleaginous thraustochytrids have attracted increasing attention for their great potential in producing high-value active metabolites using various industrial and agricultural waste. Food waste containing abundant nutrients is considered as an excellent feedstock for microbial fermentation. In this study, a thraustochytrid strain Schizochytrium sp. HBW10 was isolated from a water column in Bohai Bay in Northern China for the first time. Further lipid production characteristics of S. sp. HBW10 were investigated utilizing sulfuric acid hydrolysate of food waste (FWH) from two different restaurants (FWH1 and FWH2) with the initial pH value adjusted by NaOH or NaHCO3. Results showed that the highest concentration of total fatty acids (TFAs) was observed in FWH2 medium with the 50% content level on the fifth day, reaching up to 0.34 g/L. A higher initial pH promoted the growth and saturated fatty acid (SFA) accumulation of S. sp. HBW10, achieving nearly 100% of the sum of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids (SMUFAs) in TFAs with initial pH7 and pH8 in FWH1 medium. This work demonstrates a possible way for lipid production by thraustochytrids using food waste hydrolysate with a higher initial pH (pH7~pH8) adjusted by NaHCO3.

RESUMO

Purpose: To compare bilateral lateral rectus recession (BLR) with unilateral recession and resection (RR) for divergence excess intermittent exotropia (IXT). Methods: Retrospective analysis of 66 patients with divergence excess IXT who underwent either BLR or RR from January 2013 to December 2020 was conducted. Data on demographics, pre- and postoperative deviations, fusion, stereopsis, control, and accommodative convergence/accommodation ratio were collected. Success was defined as esodeviation ≤5 PD (prism diopter) to exodeviation ≤10 PD with a follow-up time of at least 8.0 ± 2.0 weeks. Results: BLR (42 cases) and RR (24 cases) groups had the same success rate (83.3%, P = 0.688) and similar reduced postoperative deviations both in distance and at near (P > 0.05). Near-distance disparity decreased significantly in both groups (P = 0.000) with no intergroup difference (P = 0.193). Conclusion: BLR and RR were equally effective for divergence excess IXT with comparable outcomes of both distance and near deviations.

RESUMO

Recently, the fate of spilled oil in the presence of microplastics (MPs) in the sea has attracted attention of researchers. Merey crude oil and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were used as the experimental materials in this study. The effects of mixing energy and dispersant dosage on oil dispersion and sedimentation in the presence of MPs in the water column were investigated by laboratory experiments simulating actual sea conditions. The increase of mixing energy showed a promoting effect on oil dispersion. When the oscillation frequency increased from 140 rpm to 180 rpm, the oil dispersion efficiency (ODE) ranged from 2.1 %-3.7 % to 17.4 %-30.8 %, and the volumetric mean diameter (VMD) of the suspended oil droplets/MPs-oil agglomerates (MOA) decreased from 99.9-131.4 µm to 76.6-88.2 µm after 2 h oscillation. The application of chemical dispersant led to an increase in both the quantity and size of the formed sunken MPs-oil-dispersant agglomerates (MODA). At the dispersant-to-oil ratio (DOR) of 1:5, the ODE declined from 77.7 % to 62.6 % when the MPs concentration increased from 0 to 150 mg/L, while the oil sinking efficiency (OSE) rose from 3.4 % to 15.6 % when the MPs increased from 25 to 150 mg/L; the maximum size of the sunken MODA reached 13.0 mm, and the total volume of the MODA formed per unit volume oil reached 389.7 µL/mL oil at the MPs concentration of 150 mg/L. Meanwhile, the results showed that the presence of MPs inhibited the oil dispersion by increasing the oil-water interfacial tension. The outcomes of this work may provide assistance in predicting the transport of spilled oil and developing emergency measures.

RESUMO

The typical river-lake ecotone (tail end area) of Poyang Lake, which is a sensitive area and prone to outbreaks of cyanobacteria bloom, is vulnerable to frequent human activities. To explore the diversity of phytoplankton community structure and the relevant driving mechanism in the typical river lake junction area of Poyang Lake, the water quality and phytoplankton at seven sampling points in the typical river lake junction area of Poyang Lake, at six sampling points in the middle section of Poyang Lake River, and at one sampling point in the main lake area were investigated in the field from 2019 to 2020 (dry season), April (flood season), July (wet season), and October (recession period). The results showed that there were seven phyla and 64 genera of phytoplankton in the typical river-lake ecotone of Poyang Lake, and the biomass and relative abundance of phytoplankton were dominated by diatoms and cyanobacteria. The biomass and abundance in the east of the typical river-lake ecotone of Poyang Lake were generally higher than those in the west, and the biomass and abundance in the river-lake ecotone were higher than those in the middle of the river. The dominant degree of cyanobacteria in the lake area and the river-lake ecotone was large, and the dominant degree of diatoms in the middle section of the river was large. The Monte Carlo test results showed that total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), orthophosphate phosphorus (PO43--P), water depth (WD), water temperature (WT), and transparency (SD) were significantly related environmental factors affecting the distribution of the phytoplankton community. Redundancy analysis results showed that the typical river-lake ecotone in the west of Poyang Lake was highly affected by the hydration factors (TN, TP, and PO43--P), and the hydrological factors (WT, WD, and SD) in the typical river-lake ecotone in the east were highly significant. The impact factors of phytoplankton in the typical river-lake ecotone of Poyang Lake were seasonal, being greatly affected by hydration factors in winter and hydrological factors in summer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that an antioxidant diet is a protective factor against depression. However, the association between niacin, an important antioxidant consumed from the diet, and depression has received little attention. Therefore, we explored the association between niacin intake and depression through a cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2016. METHODS: Depression was measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9, score ≥ 10). Niacin intake was assessed through 24-h dietary recall interviews. The relationship of niacin intake with depression among adults in US was assessed by using a weighted multiple logistic regression model with subgroup analysis. Non-linear associations were explored using restricted cubic spline models. And we used a two-piece-wise logistic regression model with smoothing to explore the threshold for association between them. RESULTS: A total of 16,098 adults were included in this study. Compared with individuals with lowest niacin intake Q1 (≤ 15.96 mg/day), the adjusted OR values for dietary niacin intake and depression in Q2 (15.97-22.86 mg/day), Q3 (22.87-32.28 mg/day) and Q4 (≥ 32.29 mg/day), were 0.92 (95% CI: 0.70-1.20), 0.76 (95% CI: 0.56-0.99,) and 0.68 (95% CI: 0.48-0.98), respectively. The results were not modified by sex, by age and by BMI. Furthermore, the relationship between dietary niacin intake and depression exhibited a U-shaped curve (nonlinear, p < 0.001). And depression risk was lowest when dietary consumption of niacin was around 36 mg/day. CONCLUSIONS: In present study, moderate niacin intake, but not high intake, was associated with lower odds of depression suggesting a U-shaped association.

RESUMO

To investigate the effect of different metastatic patterns of stage III high-grade serous ovarian cancer on the patient prognosis. The clinical data of 134 patients with Stage III, high-grade serous ovarian cancer diagnosed in The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2018 to April 2020 were retrospectively collected, and the patients were grouped according to metastasis mode. Patients with simple lymph node metastasis (SLNM) were included in the SLNM group, and patients with simple abdominal implantation alone and patients with abdominal metastasis combined with lymph node metastasis were all in the abdominal metastasis (AM) group. The prognosis of the two groups was analyzed. Of the 134 enrolled patients, complete datasets from 128 were successfully collected. There were 20 cases of SLNM (15.63%) and 108 cases of AM (84.37%). Initial CA125, initial HE4, and whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy was used were compared between the two groups (P < 0.05). According to the chemotherapy results, patients was divided into two groups: chemotherapy remission and uncontrolled, including 111 patients with chemotherapy remission and 17 patients with uncontrolled chemotherapy. According to the criteria of relapse after complete completion of chemotherapy and clinical remission, 91 cases relapsed, 20 cases did not relapse, of which 78 cases were platinum-sensitive, and 13 were platinum-resistant relapses. There were 4 recurrence cases in SLNM group (4.40%) and 87 recurrence cases (95.60%) in AM group (P < 0.05). The recurrence sites of 91 patients were analyzed, including 52 cases (57.14%) in the peritoneum, 11 cases (12.09%) in distant regions, 9 cases (9.89%) in lymph nodes, 19 cases (20.88%) in the peritoneum and lymph nodes. Significant differences were noted in the two groups' peritoneum, lymph node, and distance (P < 0.05). The two groups had significant differences in progression-free survival, overall survival, and 3-year survival (all P < 0.05). Initial HE4 levels, chemotherapy sensitivity, and SLNM are independent prognostic factors for Stage III high-grade serous ovarian cancer patients. Initial HE4 level < 233.7 pmol/l and chemotherapy sensitivity were protective factors, indicating a good prognosis. Patients in the SLNM group had lower initial CA125 and HE4 levels and higher survival rates. Initial HE4 levels and chemotherapy sensitivity are independent factors affecting prognosis in Stage III high-grade serous ovarian cancer patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Research on the effects of dietary iron intake on depression is limited and controversial. The aim of this study was to explore the association between iron intake and the prevalence of depressive symptoms. METHODS: The present study used cross-sectional data from people who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2007 and 2016. Logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline models were applied to investigate the relationship between iron intake and depressive symptoms. RESULTS: A total of 16,098 adults aged 20 years or older were included in this study. Compared with individuals with lowest iron intake Q1 (≤8.31 mg/day), the adjusted OR values for dietary iron intake and depression in Q2 (8.32-11.47 mg/day), Q3 (11.48-15.02 mg/day), Q4 (15.03-20.28 mg/day), and Q5 (≥20.29 mg/day) were 0.69 (95 % CI: 0.52-0.91), 0.68 (95 % CI: 0.50-0.94,), 0.59 (95 % CI: 0.42-0.82,), and 0.63 (95 % CI: 0.40-0.98), respectively. The relationship between iron intake and depressive symptoms exhibited a non-linear. Our findings suggested an interaction between body mass index (BMI) and iron intake (P = 0.03). Additionally, the relationship between dietary iron intake and depressive symptoms in adults with a BMI <25 kg/m2 was U-shaped. And the OR of developing depressive symptoms was 0.93 (95 % CI: 0.87-0.99) in individuals with iron intake ≤19.72 mg/day. LIMITATIONS: Cross-sectional study and relevant data was based on self-reports. CONCLUSION: A higher iron intake is significantly associated with a decreased prevalence of depressive symptoms, and different levels of BMI can modify the association between them.
