RESUMO

Recent studies have increasingly highlighted the aberrant expression of SLC16A1-AS1 in a variety of tumor types, where it functions as either an oncogene or a tumor suppressor in the pathogenesis of different cancers. The expression levels of SLC16A1-AS1 have been found to significantly correlate with clinical features and the prognosis of cancer patients. Furthermore, SLC16A1-AS1 modulates a range of cellular functions, including proliferation, migration, and invasion, through its interactions with diverse molecules and signaling pathways. This review examines the latest evidence regarding the role of SLC16A1-AS1 in the progression of various tumors and explores its potential clinical applications as a novel prognostic and diagnostic biomarker. Our comprehensive review aims to deepen the understanding of SLC16A1-AS1's multifaceted role in oncology, underscoring its potential as a significant biomarker and therapeutic target.

RESUMO

A Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped strain, named SDRW27T, was isolated from offshore seawater collected near Qingdao. Strain SDRW27T was able to grow at 16-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 6.0) and in the presence of 1-7 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3 %). Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain SDRW27T was most closely related to Photobacterium toruni H01100410BT (97.89 % sequence similarity), Photobacterium andalusiense H01100409BT (97.89 %) and Photobacterium leiognathi ATCC 25521T (97.82 %). The predominant fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH), summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c) and C16 : 0. The polar lipids of strain SDRW27T comprised phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol dimannoside, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and three unidentified lipids. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-8. The G+C content was 47.71 mol%. The genome size was 5.84 Mbp, including 85 contigs with an N50 value of 223 542. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) values of SDRW27T with its three most similar strains, P. toruni H01100410BT, P. andalusiense H01100409BT and P. leiognathi ATCC 25521T, were 71.36, 71.58 and 72.23 %, respectively (all lower than the 95-96 % ANI threshold), and the DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH) values were 20.4, 20.8 and 20.4 % (all lower than the 70 % DDH threshold). The obtained results of polyphasic analysis demonstrate that strain SDRW27T represents a novel species, for which the name Photobacterium obscurum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SDRW27T (=MCCC 1K06286T=KCTC 82892T).

A Mediterranean-style diet (MED) can promote people lengthen the span of life and avoid atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in primary prevention. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) can significantly reduce life expectancy and increase the risk of ASCVD. However, few studies have focused on the role of the Mediterranean diet in patients with MetS. Participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) with MetS (N = 8301) from 2007 to 2018 were examined. A 9-point evaluation scorewas used to measure the degree of adherence to the MED diet. In order to compare the various levels of adherence to the MED diet and the effects of the specific MED diet components on all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, Cox regression models were utilized. Among the 8301 participants with MetS, about 13.0% (1080 of 8301) died after a median follow-up of 6.3 years. In this study, participants with MetS with adherence to high-quality and moderate-quality Mediterranean diet were significantly associated with lower all-cause mortality as well as cardiovascular mortality during the follow-up period. Futhermore, in joint analysis of the Mediterranean diet and sedentary behavior or depression, we found that high-quality or moderate-quality Mediterranean diet could attenuate, even reverse the adverse effects of sedentary behavior and depression on all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in participants with MetS. Among the components of the MED diet, greater intakes of vegetables, legumes, nuts and high MUFA/SFA ratio were significantly associated with lower all-cause mortality and greater vegetables intake was significantly associated with lower cardiovascular mortality, while more red/processed meat intake was significantly associated with higher cardiovascular mortality in participants with MetS.

Two Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile, rod-shaped and flagellated marine bacteria, designated strains DBSS07T and ZSDZ65T, were isolated from the surface sediments of the Bohai sea and Qingdao coastal seawater, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA genes, multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), phylogenomic analysis of single-copy gene families and whole-genome data placed DBSS07T and ZSDZ65T within the genus Vibrio. DBSS07T was most closely related to Vibrio aestivus M22T, with 97.51 % sequence similarity, whereas ZSDZ65T was most closely related to Vibrio variabilis R-40492T with 97.58 % sequence similarity. DBSS07T grew with 1-7 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 3 %), at 16-37 °C (optimum 28 °C) and at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum pH 7.0); whereas ZSDZ65T grew with 1-5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 2 %), at 16-32 °C (optimum 28 °C) and at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum pH 8.0). Both strains shared the same major fatty acid components (more than 10 % of total fatty acids) of summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c or/and C16 : 1ω6c), with different proportions. The DNA G+C contents of DBSS07T and ZSDZ65T were 44.7 and 44.3 %, respectively. On the basis of the results of polyphasic analysis, DBSS07T and ZSDZ65T are considered to represent novel species within the genus Vibrio, for which the names V. paucivorans sp. nov. (type strain, DBSS07T = KCTC 82896T= MCCC 1K06284T) and V. qingdaonensis sp. nov. (type strain, ZSDZ65T = KCTC 82893T = MCCC 1K06289T) are proposed, respectively.

In this paper, we synthesized selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) that could be effectively excited by pure yellow light (YL) source to enhance antibacterial ability. Meanwhile, YL could also play the role of anti-inflammatory and promote wound healing. In addition, in order to overcome the problem of low penetration depth of photodynamic therapy (PDT), SeNPs were encapsulated with polyethylenimine (PEI), then modified with the sound sensitive agent indocyanine green (ICG), realizing the combined photoacoustic therapy to promote the healing of wounds infected by drug-resistant bacteria. The antibacterial efficiency of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) reached more than 99% in in vitro and in vivo experiments within 10 min, which could safely and quickly kill drug-resistant bacteria to repair and heal wounds.

Rural solid waste management is an important method to improve rural living environments. Farmers' participation in rural solid waste management plays an essential role in sustainable waste management. Based on the micro-survey data of 592 farmers in Shaanxi province, a multinomial logit model was applied to explore farmers' preferences for participating in rural solid waste management. The empirical results show that both institutional and interpersonal trust have significant positive effects on farmers' payment participation, and labor and payment participation. Among environmental awareness, farmers with pro-environmental behavior prefer labor participation, and labor and payment participation; the more environmental knowledge farmers have, the stronger their preferences for payment participation, labor and payment participation, and labor participation; farmers concerned about environmental problems are more inclined to adopt labor and payment participation or payment participation. For socio-demographic characteristics, gender has no significant influence, while agricultural net income and education can significantly increase farmers' willingness to participate; farmers who have migrant work experience prefer to participate in payment; there are obvious intergenerational differences in the influence of social trust and environmental awareness on farmers' participation preference. Therefore, providing diversified participation modes, creating a good social trust environment, and enhancing farmers' awareness of environmental care are important in promoting rural solid waste management.

Waste sorting is a key element for solving the current predicament of rural waste management. In the pilot areas of China, farmers' domestic waste sorting behavior (DWSB) varies significantly, whereas there are few studies exploring the mechanism of its formation. To fill this research gap, this study constructs a research model of the internal logic of farmers' waste sorting levels (i.e., no sorting; sorting recyclable waste; sorting recyclable and kitchen waste; and sorting recyclable, kitchen, harmful, and other waste) by considering circumstantial constraints (social norms in external factors) and psychological behavioral antecedents (personal norms and group identity in internal factors). Based on pilot survey data from farmers in Shaanxi Province, China, the results of the ordered logit model indicate that social norms and personal norms were the most significant predictors of the level of DWSB, while group identity was found to have no significant influence. Furthermore, the results of the grouping regression analysis showed that personal norms had a positive moderating effect on the relationship between social norms and farmers' DWSB. Therefore, a more positive social atmosphere, better education, and personal environmental moral responsibility for domestic waste sorting should be established to enhance their levels of waste sorting behavior.

Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide that impairs testosterone synthesis in mammals. Leydig cells (LCs), the primary producers of testosterone, demonstrate rhythmic expression of circadian clock genes both in vivo and in vitro. The nuclear receptor NR1D1 is an important clock component that constitutes the subsidiary transcriptional/translational loop in the circadian clock system. Nr1d1 deficiency resulted in diminished fertility in both male and female mice. However, whether NR1D1 is involved in the glyphosate-mediated inhibition of testosterone synthesis in LCs remains unclear. Here, the involvement of NR1D1 in glyphosate-mediated inhibition of testosterone synthesis was investigated both in vitro and in vivo. Glyphosate exposure of TM3 cells significantly increased Nr1d1 mRNA levels, but decreased Bmal1, Per2, StAR, Cyp11a1, and Cyp17a1 mRNA levels. Western blotting confirmed elevated NR1D1 and reduced StAR protein levels following glyphosate exposure. Glyphosate exposure also reduced testosterone production in TM3 cells. In primary LCs, glyphosate exposure also upregulated Nr1d1 mRNA levels and downregulated the mRNA levels of other clock genes (Bmal1 and Per2) and steroidogenic genes (StAR, Cyp17a1, Cyp11a1, and Hsd3b2), and inhibited testosterone synthesis. Moreover, glyphosate exposure significantly reduced the amplitude and shortened the period of PER2::LUCIFERASE oscillations in primary LCs isolated from mPer2Luciferase knock-in mice. Four weeks of oral glyphosate upregulated NR1D1 at both the mRNA and protein levels in mouse testes, and this was accompanied by a reduction in StAR expression. Notably, serum testosterone levels were also drastically reduced in mice treated with glyphosate. Moreover, dual-luciferase reporter and EMSA assays revealed that in TM3 cells NR1D1 inhibits the expression of StAR by binding to a canonical RORE element present within its promoter. Together, these data demonstrate that glyphosate perturbs testosterone synthesis via NR1D1 mediated inhibition of StAR expression in mouse LCs. These findings extend our understanding of how glyphosate impairs male fertility.

Ammonia oxidation is the first and rate-limiting step of nitrification, which was thought to be only performed by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). In recent years, ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) was also confirmed to take part in ammonia oxidation. The diversity and abundance of AOA have been investigated in various environments, however, little is known regarding the AOA in the completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite (CANON) wastewater treatment process. In this study, the abundance and diversity of AOA were investigated in the biofilm and flocculent activated sludge collected in a lab-scale (L) CANON system and a pilot-scale (P) CANON systems, respectively. The quantitative real time PCR (qPCR) was applied to investigate the abundance of AOA and the diversity of AOA was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cloning and sequencing. The qPCR results showed that the average abundance of AOA amoA gene of L and P was 2.42 x 10(6) copies x g(-1) dry sludge and 6.51 x 10(6) copies x g(-1) dry sludge, respectively. The abundance of AOA in biofilm was 10.1-14.1 times higher than that in flocculent activated sludge. For P system, the abundance of AOA in flocculent activated sludge was 1.8 times higher than that in biofilm. The results indicated that the abundance of AOA might be affected by different sludge morphology. The diversity of AOA in P system was extremely limited, only one OTU was observed, which was classified into Nitrosopumilus subcluster 5.2. The diversity of AOA in L system was higher, eight OTUs were observed, which were classified into five genera: Nitrososphaera subcluster 9, subcluster 8.1, subcluster 4.1, subcluster 1.1 and Nitrosopumilus subcluster 5.2. The diversity and abundance of AOA were different in CANON systems with different sludge morphology. AOA may play an important role in ammonia oxidation in CANON system.

A source separation program for household kitchen waste has been in place in Beijing since 2010. However, the participation rate of residents is far from satisfactory. This study was carried out to identify residents' preferences based on an improved management strategy for household kitchen waste source separation. We determine the preferences of residents in an ad hoc sample, according to their age level, for source separation services and their marginal willingness to accept compensation for the service attributes. We used a multinomial logit model to analyze the data, collected from 394 residents in Haidian and Dongcheng districts of Beijing City through a choice experiment. The results show there are differences of preferences on the services attributes between young, middle, and old age residents. Low compensation is not a major factor to promote young and middle age residents accept the proposed separation services. However, on average, most of them prefer services with frequent, evening, plastic bag attributes and without instructor. This study indicates that there is a potential for local government to improve the current separation services accordingly.
