RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As a minimally invasive tool for caries prevention tool, the pulsed erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser is being used in a large number of studies. Microorganisms are extremely vital in the occurrence and development of dental caries. However, the impact of Er:YAG laser irradiation combined with fluoride on the dynamic microbial changes that occur in dental plaques is still uncertain. In this study, we examined the effect of an Er:YAG laser combined with fluorine on supragingival microbial composition and diversity in children with multiple caries. METHODS: In this study, dental plaque samples (n = 48) were collected from 12 children with over 8 filled teeth. Supragingival plaques from left mandibular molars before (CB) and after fluoride treatment (CA) and right mandibular molars before (EB) and after fluoride+Er:YAG laser treatment (EA) were collected from each patient. In CB and EB groups, the samples were collected just before the treatments. In CA and EA groups, the samples were collected 1 month after treatments. Then, all specimens were subjected to 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing to investigate the changes in microbial composition and diversity in mandibular molar supragingival plaques before and after fluoride or fluoride+Er:YAG laser treatment. RESULTS: The dental plaque microbial diversity was higher in the EA group than in the EB group (baseline levels), and the microbial composition changed in EA group compared with EB group (P < 0.05). The levels of microorganisms associated with caries occurrence, including Proteobacteria, Fusobacteria, and Bacteroidetes, declined, while the levels of Faecacterium, Fastidiosipila, Vibrio, and Shewanella increased in EA group compared with EB group. The declines in Firmicutes, Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, and Veillonella levels were significantly lower in the EA group than in the CA group. CONCLUSION: The combined application of the Er:YAG laser and fluoride may be more effective than using fluoride alone in reducing the proportion of cariogenic bacteria, increasing the diversity of plaque microorganisms, and further promoting the microecological balance.

RESUMO

Objective The mechanism of traditional double-eyelid blepharoplasty is adhering skin to tarsus,by which the skin below the incision could be elevated along with the tarsus and produce the crease. But the anatomic basis of native double-eyelids is not the same, which depends on the connection of levator aponeuroses with muscle and skin. That is,the elevations of tarsus and skin is based on the different branches of levator aponeuroses to skin.According to this, the authors have developed a modified blepharoplasty suturing levator aponeuroses to the obicularis occuli muscle to mimic the native double eyelid. Methods The surgical procedures were modified from traditional surgery. The major improvements were:keeping obicularis occuli muscles intact, dissecting the levator aponeuroses and suturing them together.Since the suturing was performed between mobilized tissues of muscle and aponeurosis, the method was named as "flexible suspension technique".Five-hundred patients were performed with this method.Forty cases randomly selected from them were compared with 40 cases performed with traditional method, and the results were investigated using questionnaire survey. Results The results of the modified surgery were more natural than traditional technique.Majority of patients were satisfactory, whereas 15 cases (3%) had asymmetry, narrowing and even fold loss. All these 15 cases were puffy eyelids.Statistical results indicated that the satisfaction rate was significantly high (P =0.003),and the adverse effects (edema, bruise and scar) were significantly lighter than traditional technique;whereas the asymmetry and fold loss were higher than traditional technique. Conclusions The flexible suspension technique of blepharoplasty can obtain more natural double eyelid appearance, and is suitable for primary blepharoplasty but not applicable for severe puffy eyelids.

RESUMO

Objective The present study is to investigate the influence of vaginal discharge on dry chemistry determination of leukocyte esterase in female urine. Methods Collected 20 and 30 normal vaginal discharge samples.Which humoral routine test degree were Ⅰ and Ⅱ correspondingly, and then analyze leukocyte esterase and squamous epithelial cells in these normal vaginal discharge samples.Collected normal vaginal discharge samples again and isolate the vaginal squamous epithelial cells from those normal vaginal discharge samples.Made two concentration of squamous epithelial cell suspension liquid (20/μl and 60/μl)and added these liquid. To normal female urine and analyze the drying chemical leukocyte esterase in those urine. Cleaned the vulva of those patients with normal leukocyte counts in urine sediment determination, whose dry chemical deter-mination of leukocyte esterase was strong positive, perform the routine urine test with her middle urine. Results The results of the determination of leukocyte esterase in normal vaginal discharge samples were 66.7% positive. And there were ~squamous epithelial cells in all samples (microscopy). No significant difference was observed in the examination of dry chem-istry leukocyte esterase among the normal female urine group, low (20/μl)and high (60/μl)concentrations of squamous epi-thelial cell urine group (P >0.05).The counts of squamous epithelial cells and the rate of positive and intensity of dry chem-ical leukocyte esterase in the middle of second urine were significantly lower than before, and the differences are statistically significant (P <0.05).But there was no significant difference for leukocytes counts. Conclusion Urine squamous epithelial cells had no influence on the detection of leukocyte esterase by dry chemistry. However, the leukocyte esterase in the vaginal discharge greatly influenced the examination of the leukocyte esterase in urine.
