RESUMO

The BMI and fasting serum glucose was estimated in chronic kidney diseased patient to observe low body mass and the frequency of high in fasting serum glucose level in chronic kidney diseased patient (CKD). BMI fluctuations may indicate other serious comorbid conditions. Wasting is prevalent among patients with chronic kidney disease. It is to be distinguished from chronic inflammation and malnutrition, which is defined as the consequence of insufficient food intake. Diabetes is the most common cause of kidney disease. The chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes mellitus is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction and failure of kidneys, blood vessels, nerves, heart. This cross sectional study was carried out in the department of Physiology of Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh from July 2014 to June 2015. In this study total 200 subjects were selected with age ranged from 25 to 60 years and divided into 100 healthy persons as control group and 100 CKD patients as study group. Both control and study group were further divided into 50 male and 50 female. Unpaired student's t test was used for Statistical data analysis. The mean±SE BMI of control group male and study group male were 25.04±0.13 and 23.87±0.41 kg/m² respectively. In study group male, mean±SE BMI was decreased. Result was statistically significant (p<0.05). The mean±SE BMI of control group female and study group female were 24.13±0.43 and 22.90±0.27 kg/m² respectively. In study group female, mean±SE BMI was decreased and result was significant (p<0.05). BMI was decreased in study group than in control group. The results were statistically significant. Fasting serum glucose was evaluated by the Enzymatic, colorimetric, GOD-PAP method. The results showed that the mean±SE fasting serum glucose of control group male & study group male were 5.31±0.17mmol/L and 7.56±0.37mmol/L respectively. In study group male, mean±SE FSG was increased. Result was statistically highly significant (p<0.0001). The mean±SE FSG of control group female & study group female were 5.11±0.11mmol/L and 7.37±0.33mmol/L respectively. In study group female, mean±SE FSG was increased & result was highly significant (p<0.0001). According to the above result, FSG was increased in study group than in control group. The results were statistically significant. Fasting serum glucose levels increased significantly in chronic kidney disease patients than the normal healthy persons. The increasing frequency of blood glucose level in CKD may predispose the patients to diabetes and increasing the other complications.

RESUMO

This cross sectional descriptive study was performed on 80 human placenta and umbilical cord to find out the variation in length of umbilical cord of healthy Bangladeshi mother in relation to different gestational age. This study was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, from January to December 2018. The specimens were collected from the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Mymensingh, Bangladesh by purposive sampling technique. According to gestational age the collected samples were divided into three groups. They were Group A (28 to 36 weeks), Group B (37 to 40 weeks) and Group C (above 40 weeks) and examined morphologically by fine dissection method. The length of umbilical cord was measured with the help of flexible tape in cm. For statistical analysis, differences of length between age groups were analyzed by using unpaired student 't' test. The mean±SD length of umbilical cord was 56.15±7.61cm in Group A, 62.54±8.78cm in Group B and 68.54±10.53cm in Group C. It was also observed that the mean length of the umbilical cord was increased with increase of gestational age. The mean difference of length of umbilical cord between Groups A and C was statistically highly significant (p<0.001), difference between Groups A and B was statistically moderately significant (p<0.01) but the difference between Groups B and C was statistically significant (p<0.05). This study was done to provide information about the length of umbilical cord in different gestational ages of healthy pregnancies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: ThyPRO is a recently developed thyroid-specific quality of life (QoL) questionnaire applicable to patients with benign thyroid disorders(BTD). The aim of the present study was to translate ThyPRO and ThyPRO-39 into Romanian, and to evaluate reliability and cross-cultural validity. METHODS: Standard methodology for translation and linguistic validation of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) was applied. The questionnaire was completed by 130 patients with benign thyroid diseases seen at Department of Endocrinology in the Emergency County Hospital, Tîrgu Mures, Romania, between October 2015 and March 2016. Internal reliability of the Romanian version of the ThyPRO (ThyPROro) scales was assessed for multi-item scales using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. An efficient method for testing cross-cultural validity is analysis of differential item functioning (DIF). Uniform DIF between the Romanian and the original Danish sample was investigated using ordinal logistic regression. The translation process proceeded without difficulties, and any disagreements were revised by one of the developers and the language coordinator. RESULTS: Internal reliability for ThyPRO was satisfactory. Cronbach`s alpha coefficients for the 13 scales ranged from 0.78 to 0.93 for the ThyPROro and 0.78 to 0.87 for the ThyPROro-39. In the 85-item ThyPRO, nine instances of DIF were found. Most were minor, explaining <3% of the variation in scale score, but DIF in positively worded items were larger, with explained variance (R2's) around 10-15%. CONCLUSION: The ThyPROro questionnaire is ready for assessment of health-related quality of life in Romanian patients with benign thyroid diseases.
