Cecal volvulus: report of a case and review of the literature.

Colonic volvulus is a common condition that affects the sigmoid and rarely involves the more proximal colon. The cecal volvulus is a well-recognized entity, about 270 cases have been reported in the medical literature to our knowledge. Laparoscopy in routine and emergency surgery: experience with 1,720 cases.

Experience with laparoscopy in 1,720 cases performed for surgical diseases with elective or emergency indications is reported. It is hoped that laparoscopy, a simple and harmless technic of great diagnostic value, will be employed more frequently in routine and emergency surgery.

Laparoscopic cholangiography in the diagnosis of cholestasis: experience with 103 cases.

The results of 103 laparoscopic cholangiographies performed in patients with cholestasis are reported and the technique used is described. Minimal or no secondary effects were noted. A correct diagnosis was reached in 92 cases, 53 of which presented cholestasis of an extrahepatic nature and 39 of intrahepatic origin. In the latter group, the technique made exploratory laparotomy unnecessary. The procedure allows a roentgenologic examination of the biliary system, a direct evaluation of the liver and gallbladder and, if necessary, a liver biopsy.

Personal experience with Roux's Y loop in 101 cases in which bilio-jejunal anastomosis was performed for mechanical icterus of malignant (66 cases) and benign (35 cases) origin is described. It is felt that this operation does not present particular technical difficulties. End-to-end anastomosis is preferable. While bilio-duodenal and bilio-jejunal anastomoses are both sound practice, Roux's Y loop offers greater possibilities of application.

[Thyroiditic reactions during a course of thyroid cancer]. / Reazioni tiroiditiche in corso di carcinoma della tiroide

The clinical, immunological, and immunoistochemical features of 10 thyroid cancers associated with intra and extra tumoral thyroiditis are described. These cases have been obtained from a review of 806 thyroidectomies. A proper distinction of the described pathology from the immunological and histological point of view, is emphasized, especially if compared with the prognosis of other thyroid cancers.

Diagnosis of bilateral abdominal cryptorchidism by laparoscopy.

The authors report a case of abdominal retention of both testes, where the exact diagnosis was made by laparoscopy. They suggest the usefulness of laparoscopy also in urology.
