RESUMO
Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a dimensão vertical de repouso (DVR) em 46 pacientes submetidos a tratamentos por próteses totais, sendo as variáveis, a idade e, uso ou não de próteses. Foi mensurada a DVR, antes do início do tratamento e, após 15 dias de uso contínuo de novas próteses. Os pacientes foram divididos em dois grupos: A os que nunca usaram próteses e, B - usuários de próteses bimaxilares. Para o grupo B subgrupos foram obtidos considerando-se o tempo de uso das peças: B1 - mais de 25 anos; B2-entre 15 e 25 anos; B3 - menos de 15 anos. Quanto à faixa etária separou-se em indivíduos com mais de 60 anos e, entre 40 e 60 anos de idade. Computadas as diferenças entre os valores de DVR obtidos, aplicou-se o teste do c2 que foi estatisticamente significante ao nível de 5%. Concluiu-se que os indivíduos que não utilizavam próteses mostraram as menores variações na DVR, em contrapartida indivíduos com menos de 15 anos de uso de próteses mostraram as maiores variações, independentemente da faixa etária estudada
The proposal of this work was make a evaluation of the Rest Vertical Dimension (RVD) in 46 patients submitted to complete denture treatments at School ambulatory considering aspects like age and if them used or not prosthesis. The RVD was measured, before the beginning of the treatment and after 15 days of the continuos using of new prosthesis. The patients were divided in two groups: A- patients that never used prosthesis and B- bimaxilarys prosthesis wearers. The group B was obtained considering the time of the prosthesis were used: B1 more than 25 years, B2- between 15 and 25 years, B3- less than 15 years. The age aspect was divided in two categories: patients with more than 60 years old and, between 40 and 60 years old. Computed the difference values of rest vertical dimension obtained, was applicated the Chi-square test, that was statistically significant in the 5% level. Concluded that the patients who did not use prosthesis before the treatment showed the less variation in RVD, however the patients with less than 15 years of prosthesis using showed the more significant variation, independently of the age studied in the sample
