RESUMO

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an eye disease that causes blindness and vision loss in diabetic. Risk factors for DR include high blood glucose levels and some environmental factors. The pathogenesis is based on inflammation caused by interferon and other nuclear proteins. This review article provides an overview of DR and discusses the role of nuclear proteins in the pathogenesis of the disease. Some core proteins such as MAPK, transcription co-factors, transcription co-activators, and others are part of this review. In addition, some current advanced treatment resulting from the role of nuclear proteins will be analyzes, including epigenetic modifications, the use of methylation, acetylation, and histone modifications. Stem cell technology and the use of nanobiotechnology are proposed as promising approaches for a more effective treatment of DR.

Background: Despite the acknowledged importance of resistance training (RT) in enhancing physical performance in futsal players., the comparative effectiveness of RT and complex training (CT) on both physical and technical performance in futsal players remains underexplored. This study aimed to compare the effects of RT vs. CT on physical and technical performance in amateur futsal players. Method: Players from two amateur futsal teams were assigned to RT (one team of 16 players; 18 years) and CT (one team of 16 players; 18 years) to perform an 8-week intervention with two weekly sessions. The RT performed the squat and deadlift (6 sets of 6-10 repetitions at 75%-85% one-repetition maximum (1RM), while the CT performed the squat + squat jump and deadlift + high pull (3 sets of 4-6 + 10-12 repetitions at 75%-85% 1RM). Pre- and post-intervention assessments included the Futsal Special Performance Test (FSPT), repeated sprint ability (RSA), sprint decrement (Sdec), sprint times at 10-m (T10), 10-20-m (T10-20), and 20-m (T20), 1RM back squat (1RM BS), isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP), and countermovement jump (CMJ). Results: At baseline, no significant differences between groups were observed for any variable analyzed (p > 0.05). After 8 weeks, there were significant differences between CT vs. RT on FSPT (-10.8% vs. -3.4%; p < 0.05), T10 (-5.2% vs. -0.1%; p < 0.05), IMTP (7.8% vs. 5.1%; p < 0.05), and CMJ (10.2% vs. 4.5%; p < 0.05). On the other hand, no significant differences between CT vs. RT were observed for RSA (-2.0% vs. -1.2%; p > 0.05), Sdec (-7.6% vs. -3.5%; p > 0.05), T10-20 (-0.9% vs. -0.9%; p > 0.05), T20 (-1.8% vs. -1.7%; p > 0.05), and 1RM BS (5.7% vs. 4.5%; p > 0.05) after the training program. Both groups significantly improved FSPT, T20, 1RM BS, and IMTP, while only CT significantly improved RSA, Sdec, T10, and CMJ. Conclusion: The results suggest that CT may be valuable for improving specific performance parameters in amateur futsal players, with some advantages over RT in enhancing strength and power. These findings support tailored training protocols for futsal players to optimize performance.

BACKGROUND: Cancer patients are increasingly affected by chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction. The reported incidence of this condition vary significantly across different studies. HYPOTHESIS: A better comprehensive understanding of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction incidence in cancer patients is imperative. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to establish the overall incidence of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients. METHODS: We searched articles in PubMed and EMBASE from database inception to May 1, 2023. Studies that reported the incidence of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients were included. RESULTS: A total of 53 studies involving 35 651 individuals were finally included in the meta-analysis. The overall pooled incidence of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients was 63.21 per 1000 person-years (95% CI: 57.28-69.14). The chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction incidence increased steeply within half a year of cancer chemotherapy. Also, the trend of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction incidence appeared to have plateaued after a longer duration of follow-up. In addition, chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction incidence rates are significantly higher among patients with age ≥50 years versus patients with age <50 years (99.96 vs. 34.48 per 1000 person-years). The incidence rate of cardiac dysfunction was higher among breast cancer patients (72.97 per 1000 person-years), leukemia patients (65.21 per 1000 person-years), and lymphoma patients (55.43 per 1000 person-years). CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis unveiled a definitive overall incidence rate of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients. In addition, it was found that the risk of developing this condition escalates within the initial 6 months postchemotherapy, subsequently tapering off to become statistically insignificant after a duration of 6 years.

Liver injury is a core pathological process in the majority of liver diseases, yet the genetic factors predisposing individuals to its initiation and progression remain poorly understood. Here we show that asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (ASGR1), a lectin specifically expressed in the liver, is downregulated in patients with liver fibrosis or cirrhosis and male mice with liver injury. ASGR1 deficiency exacerbates while its overexpression mitigates acetaminophen-induced acute and CCl4-induced chronic liver injuries in male mice. Mechanistically, ASGR1 binds to an endoplasmic reticulum stress mediator GP73 and facilitates its lysosomal degradation. ASGR1 depletion increases circulating GP73 levels and promotes the interaction between GP73 and BIP to activate endoplasmic reticulum stress, leading to liver injury. Neutralization of GP73 not only attenuates ASGR1 deficiency-induced liver injuries but also improves survival in mice received a lethal dose of acetaminophen. Collectively, these findings identify ASGR1 as a potential genetic determinant of susceptibility to liver injury and propose it as a therapeutic target for the treatment of liver injury.

High-performance and air-stable single-molecule magnets (SMMs) can offer great convenience for the fabrication of information storage devices. However, the controversial requisition of high stability and magnetic axiality is hard to balance for lanthanide-based SMMs. Here, a family of dysprosium(III) crown ether complexes possessing hexagonal-bipyramidal (pseudo-D6h symmetry) local coordination geometry with tunable air stability and effective energy barrier for magnetization reversal (Ueff) are shown. The three complexes share the common formula of [Dy(18-C-6)L2][I3] (18-C-6 = 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane; L = I, 1; L = OtBu 2 and L = 1-AdO 3). 1 is highly unstable in the air. 2 can survive in the air for a few minutes, while 3 remains unchanged in the air for more than 1 week. This is roughly in accordance with the percentage of buried volumes of the axial ligands. More strikingly, 2 and 3 show progressive enhancement of Ueff and 3 exhibits a record high Ueff of 2427(19) K, which significantly contributes to the 100 s blocking temperature up to 11 K for Yttrium-diluted sample, setting a new benchmark for solid-state air-stable SMMs.

Gelatin-based hydrogels have gained considerable attention due to their resemblance to the extracellular matrix and hydrophilic three-dimensional network structure. Apart from providing an air-permeable and moist environment, these hydrogels optimize the inflammatory microenvironment of the wounds. These properties make gelatin-based hydrogels highly competitive in the field of wound dressings. In this study, a series of composite hydrogels were prepared using gelatin (Gel) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCh) as primary materials, glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker, and aloe vera juice as an anti-inflammatory component. The properties of the hydrogel, including its rheological properties, microscopic structures, mechanical properties, swelling ratios, thermal stability, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility, were investigated. The results demonstrate that the gelatin-based hydrogels exhibit good elasticity and rapid self-healing ability. The hydrogels exhibited slight shear behavior, which is advantageous for skin care applications. Furthermore, the inclusion of aloe vera juice into the hydrogel resulted in a dense structure, improved mechanical properties and enhanced swelling ratio. The Gel/CMCh/Aloe hydrogels tolerate a compressive strength similar to that of human skin. Moreover, the hydrogels displayed excellent cytocompatibility with HFF-1 cells, and exhibited antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. Lomefloxacin was used as a model drug to study the releasing behavior of the Gel/CMCh/aloe hydrogels. The results showed that the drug was released rapidly at the initial stage, and could continue to be released for 12 h, the maximum releasing rate exceeded 20 %. These findings suggest that the gelatin-based hydrogels hold great promise as effective wound dressings.

Although fibronectin has been associated with the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, little is currently known about the relationship between plasma fibronectin and coronary heart disease (CHD). This retrospective study aimed to determine the predictive value of plasma fibronectin for CHD and its severity. A total of 1644 consecutive patients who underwent selective coronary angiography were recruited into the present study. The characteristics and results of the clinical examination of all patients were collected. Logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the predictive value of plasma fibronectin for the presence and severity of CHD. Compared with non-CHD patients, the CHD patients showed significantly higher plasma levels of troponin I and creatine kinase isoenzyme, along with lower plasma levels of fibronectin. However, no significant differences were detected in plasma fibronectin among patients with different grades of CHD. The logistic regression model showed that plasma fibronectin remained an independent predictor of CHD after adjustment with a 1.39-fold increased risk for every 1 SD decrease in plasma fibronectin. Nevertheless, plasma fibronectin could not predict the severity of CHD determined by the number of stenosed vessels and the modified Gensini score. This study demonstrated that lower plasma fibronectin might be an independent predictor of CHD, but it may be of no value in predicting the severity of CHD.

Although alternative splicing (AS) drives transcriptional responses and cellular adaptation to environmental stresses, its contributions in organ transplantation have not been appreciated. We have shown that carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule (Ceacam1; CD66a), a transmembrane biliary glycoprotein expressed in epithelial, endothelial, and immune cells, determines donor liver transplant quality. Here, we studied how AS of Ceacam1 affects ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in mouse and human livers. We found that the short cytoplasmic isoform Ceacam1-S increased during early acute and late resolution phases of warm IRI injury in mice. Transfection of Ceacam1-deficient mouse hepatocytes with adenoviral Ceacam1-S mitigated hypoxia-induced loss of cellular adhesion by repressing the Ask1/p-p38 cell death pathway. Nucleic acid-blocking morpholinos, designed to selectively induce Ceacam1-S, protected hepatocyte cultures against temperature-induced stress in vitro. Luciferase and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays identified direct binding of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (Hif-1α) to the mouse polypyrimidine tract binding protein 1 (Ptbp1) promoter region. Dimethyloxalylglycine protected mouse livers from warm IR stress and hepatocellular damage by inhibiting prolyl hydroxylase domain-containing protein 1 and promoting AS of Ceacam1-S. Last, analysis of 46 human donor liver grafts revealed that CEACAM1-S positively correlated with pretransplant HIF1A expression. This also correlated with better transplant outcomes, including reduced TIMP1, total bilirubin, proinflammatory MCP1, CXCL10 cytokines, immune activation markers IL17A, and incidence of delayed complications from biliary anastomosis. This translational study identified mouse Hif-1α-controlled AS of Ceacam1, through transcriptional regulation of Ptbp1 promoter region, as a functional underpinning of hepatoprotection against IR stress and tissue damage in liver transplantation.

Introduction: Different studies provide conflicting evidence regarding the potential for glucocorticoids (GCs) to increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This study performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the correlation between GCs and cardiovascular risk, including major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), death from any cause, coronary heart disease (CHD), heart failure (HF), and stroke. Methods: We performed a comprehensive search in PubMed and Embase (from inception to June 1, 2022). Studies that reported relative risk (RR) estimates with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations of interest were included. Results: A total of 43 studies with 15,572,512 subjects were included. Patients taking GCs had a higher risk of MACE (RR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.15-1.40), CHD (RR = 1.25, 95% CI: 1.11-1.41), and HF (RR = 1.92, 95% CI: 1.51-2.45). The MACE risk increased by 10% (95% CI: 6%-15%) for each additional gram of GCs cumulative dose or by 63% (95% CI: 46%-83%) for an additional 10 µg daily dose. The subgroup analysis suggested that not inhaled GCs and current GCs use were associated with increasing MACE risk. Similarly, GCs were linked to an increase in absolute MACE risk of 13.94 (95% CI: 10.29-17.58) cases per 1,000 person-years. Conclusions: Administration of GCs is possibly related with increased risk for MACE, CHD, and HF but not increased all-cause death or stroke. Furthermore, it seems that the risk of MACE increased with increasing cumulative or daily dose of GCs.

Background The longitudinal trajectories of renal function have been associated with cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the change pattern of renal function in those without CKD has not yet been reported. We aim to explore patterns of renal function change in a non-CKD population and its associated risks with cardiovascular outcomes. Methods and Results The present study analyzed data from 4 prospective cohorts and was restricted to participants without baseline CKD. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiovascular events, defined as a composite of myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, stroke, and cardiovascular deaths. We used a group-based trajectory model to identify latent groups and analyzed the associated risk with Cox regression models. The complete dates of this study were June 1, 2020, through January 1, 2021. The final sample comprised 23 760 participants (mean age, 58.63 [9.12] years, 10 618 men, and 17 799 White participants). During 20.56 years follow-up, 8328 (35.05%) first major adverse cardiovascular events happened. Four trajectories in estimated glomerular renal function and 3 patterns of CKD progression were identified. Compared with subjects assigned to class I trajectory (high to mildly decreased group), the adjusted hazard ratios of major adverse cardiovascular events for class II (normal to mildly decreased group), class III (normal to moderately decreased group), and class IV (mildly to severely decreased group) were 1.11 (95% CI, 1.01-1.23), 1.27 (95% CI, 1.14-1.40), and 1.56 (95% CI, 1.38-1.77), respectively. Likewise, participants assigned to the slow and rapid progression groups had elevated HRs for major adverse cardiovascular events (1.75 [95% CI, 1.39-2.21] and 2.19 [95% CI, 1.68-2.86], respectively) when compared with the stable group. Findings were generally consistent in stratification analysis, but significant interaction effects by age and smoking status were detected. Conclusions In this study, we identified unique trajectory groups for renal function. These findings may signal an underlying high-risk population and inspire future studies on individualized risk management.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythema, scaling, and skin thickening. Topical drug application is recommended as the first-line treatment. Many formulation strategies have been developed and explored for enhanced topical psoriasis treatment. However, these preparations usually have low viscosity and limited retention on the skin surface, resulting in low drug delivery efficiency and poor patient satisfaction. In this study, we developed the first water-responsive gel (WRG), which has a distinct water-triggered liquid-to-gel phase transition property. Specifically, WRG was kept in a solution state in the absence of water, and the addition of water induced an immediate phase transition and resulted in a high viscosity gel. Curcumin was used as a model drug to investigate the potential of WRG in topical drug delivery against psoriasis. In vitro and in vivo data showed that WRG formulation could not only extend skin retention but also facilitate the drug permeating across the skin. In a mouse model of psoriasis, curcumin loaded WRG (CUR-WRG) effectively ameliorated the symptoms of psoriasis and exerted a potent anti-psoriasis effect by extending drug retention and facilitating drug penetration. Further mechanism study demonstrated that the anti-hyperplasia, anti-inflammation, anti-angiogenesis, anti-oxidation, and immunomodulation properties of curcumin were amplified by enhanced topical drug delivery efficiency. Notably, neglectable local or systemic toxicity was observed for CUR-WRG application. This study suggests that WRG is a promising formulation for topically psoriasis treatment.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) has been widely recognized as one of gasotransmitters. Endogenous H2 S plays a crucial role in the progression of cancer. However, the effect of endogenous H2 S on the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is still unknown. In this study, aminooxyacetic acid (AOAA, an inhibitor of cystathionine-ß-synthase), dl-propargylglycine (PAG, an inhibitor of cystathionine-γ-lyase), and l-aspartic acid (l-Asp, an inhibitor of 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase) were adopted to detect the role of endogenous H2 S in NPC growth. The results indicated that the combine (PAG + AOAA + l-Asp) group had higher inhibitory effect on the growth of NPC cells than the PAG, AOAA, and l-Asp groups. There were similar trends in the levels of apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS). In addition, the combine group exhibited lower levels of phospho (p)-extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase but higher expressions of p-p38 and p-c-Jun N-terminal kinase than those in the AOAA, PAG, and l-Asp groups. Furthermore, the combine group exerted more potent inhibitory effect on NPC xenograft tumor growth without obvious toxicity. In summary, suppression of endogenous H2 S generation could dramatically inhibit NPC growth via the ROS/mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. Endogenous H2 S may be a novel therapeutic target in human NPC cells. Effective inhibitors for H2 S-producing enzymes could be designed and developed for NPC treatment.

Neutrophils, the largest innate immune cell population in humans, are the primary proinflammatory sentinel in the ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) mechanism in orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1, CC1, or CD66a) is essential in neutrophil activation and serves as a checkpoint regulator of innate immune-driven IRI cascade in OLT. Although CC1 alternative splicing generates two functionally distinct short and long cytoplasmic isoforms, their role in neutrophil activation remains unknown. Here, we undertook molecular and functional studies to interrogate the significance of neutrophil CC1 signaling in mouse and human OLT recipients. In the experimental arm, we employed a mouse OLT model to document that ablation of recipient-derived neutrophil CC1-long (CC1-L) isotype aggravated hepatic IRI by promoting neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Notably, by regulating the S1P-S1PR2/S1PR3 axis, neutrophil CC1-L determined susceptibility to NET formation via autophagy signaling. In the clinical arm, liver grafts from 55 transplant patients selectively enriched for neutrophil CC1-L showed relative resistance to ischemia-reperfusion (IR) stress/tissue damage, improved hepatocellular function, and clinical outcomes. In conclusion, despite neutrophils being considered a principal villain in peritransplant tissue injury, their CC1-L isoform may serve as a regulator of IR stress resistance/NETosis in human and mouse OLT recipients.

B cell activating factor (BAFF) has been shown to play a key role in regulating B cell function, but little is known about whether BAFF affects the function of fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS), an effector cell of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). CP-25, a new ester derivative of paeoniflorin, could alleviate the arthritis symptoms of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice by inhibiting BAFF-mediated abnormal activation of B cells. In this study, we aimed to understand the mechanism by which BAFF activates FLS and the effect of CP-25 on FLS function. Therefore, the proliferation and migration abilities of FLS and key proteins on the non-canonical NF-κB pathway were examined. The results showed that compared with the FLS of normal rats/OA patients, the expression of BAFF-R, TRAF2, NIK, p-IKKα, P100, and P52 was higher in the FLS of AA rats/RA patients, while the expression of TRAF3 was lower. And, BAFF promotes FLS activation by activating the non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathway. Meanwhile, BAFFR-siRNA inhibited the proliferation of FLS and the activation of non-canonical NF-κB signaling in FLS induced by BAFF. Additionally, CP-25 could inhibit abnormal proliferation and migration of FLS by regulating non-canonical NF-κB signaling. We concluded that BAFF may act as an important role in facilitating the function of FLS through the BAFFR-mediated non-canonical NF-κB pathway, which would be useful for revealing the pathological mechanism of RA. And CP-25 may become a potential new drug for the treatment of RA, providing a scientific basis for the development of new drugs to treat RA.

RESUMO

The role of hydrogen sulphide (H2 S) in angiogenesis has been widely demonstrated. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in H2 S-induced angiogenesis. H2 S promotes angiogenesis by upregulating VEGF via pro-angiogenic signal transduction. The involved signalling pathways include the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway, phosphoinositide-3 kinase pathway, nitric oxide (NO) synthase/NO pathway, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-sensitive potassium (KATP ) channels. H2 S has been shown to contribute to tumour angiogenesis, diabetic wound healing, angiogenesis in cardiac and cerebral ischaemic tissues, and physiological angiogenesis during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Furthermore, H2 S can exert an anti-angiogenic effect by inactivating Wnt/ß-catenin signalling or blocking the STAT3 pathway in tumours. Therefore, H2 S plays a double-edged sword role in the process of angiogenesis. The regulation of H2 S production is a promising therapeutic approach for angiogenesis-associated diseases. Novel H2 S donors and/or inhibitors can be developed in the treatment of angiogenesis-dependent diseases.

Although glycogen synthase kinase ß (Gsk3ß) has been shown to regulate tissue inflammation, whether and how it regulates inflammation resolution versus inflammation activation is unclear. In a murine liver, partial warm ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) model, we found that Gsk3ß inhibitory phosphorylation increased at both the early-activation and late-resolution stages of the disease. Myeloid Gsk3ß deficiency not only alleviated liver injuries, it also facilitated the restoration of liver homeostasis. Depletion of Kupffer cells prior to the onset of liver ischemia diminished the differences between the WT and Gsk3ß-KO mice in the activation of liver IRI. However, the resolution of liver IRI remained accelerated in Gsk3ß-KO mice. In CD11b-DTR mice, Gsk3ß-deficient BM-derived macrophages (BMMs) facilitated the resolution of liver IRI as compared with WT cells. Furthermore, Gsk3ß deficiency promoted the reparative phenotype differentiation in vivo in liver-infiltrating macrophages and in vitro in BMMs. Gsk3 pharmacological inhibition promoted the resolution of liver IRI in WT, but not myeloid MerTK-deficient, mice. Thus, Gsk3ß regulates liver IRI at both activation and resolution stages of the disease. Gsk3 inactivation enhances the proresolving function of liver-infiltrating macrophages in an MerTK-dependent manner.

Both aldosterone and arginine vasopressin (AVP) are produced in the heart and may participate in cardiac fibrosis. However, their relationship remains unknown. This study aims to demonstrate the regulation and role of AVP in aldosterone synthesis in the heart. Rats were subjected to a sham operation or myocardial infarction (MI) by ligating the coronary artery. Cardiac function and fibrosis were assessed using echocardiography and immunohistochemical staining, respectively. In addition, the effects of AVP stimulation on cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) were studied using ELISA, real-time PCR, and Western blotting. Compared with the rats having undergone a sham operation, the MI rats had an increased LVMI, type I collagen composition, and concentrations of aldosterone and AVP in the heart but decreased cardiac function. As the MI rats aged, the LVMI, type I collagen, aldosterone, and AVP increased, while the LVMI decreased. Furthermore, AVP time-dependently induced aldosterone secretion and CYP11B2 mRNA expression in CMECs. The p-CREB levels were significantly increased by AVP. Nevertheless, these effects were completely blocked by SR49059 or partially inhibited by KN93. This study demonstrated that AVP could induce the secretion of local cardiac aldosterone, which may involve CaMK and CREB phosphorylation and CYP11B2 upregulation through V1 receptor activation.

Background The change of cardiovascular health (CVH) status has been associated with risk of cardiovascular disease. However, no studies have explored the change patterns of CVH in relation to risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). We aim to examine the link between baseline CVH and change of CVH over time with the risk of SCD. Methods and Results Analyses were conducted in the prospective cohort ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) study, started in 1987 to 1989. ARIC enrolled 15 792 individuals 45 to 64 years of age from 4 US communities (Forsyth County, North Carolina; Jackson, Mississippi; suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Washington County, Maryland). Subjects with 0 to 2, 3 to 4, and 5 to 7 ideal metrics of CVH were categorized as having poor, intermediate, or ideal CVH, respectively. Change in CVH over 6 years between 1987 to 1989 and 1993 to 1995 was considered. The primary study outcome was physician adjudicated SCD. The study population consisted of 15 026 subjects, of whom 12 207 had data about CVH change. Over a median follow-up of 23.0 years, 583 cases of SCD were recorded. There was a strong inverse association between baseline CVH metrics and time varying CVH metrics with risk of SCD. Compared with subjects with consistently poor CVH, risk of SCD was lower in those changed from poor to intermediate/ideal (hazard ratio [HR], 0.67 [95% CI, 0.48-0.94]), intermediate to poor (HR, 0.73 [95% CI, 0.54-0.99]), intermediate to ideal (HR, 0.49 [95% CI, 0.24-0.99]), ideal to poor/intermediate CVH (HR, 0.23 [95% CI, 0.10-0.52]), or those with consistently intermediate (HR, 0.49 [95% CI, 0.36-0.66]) or consistently ideal CVH (HR, 0.31 [95% CI, 0.13-0.76]). Similar results were also observed for non-SCD. Conclusions Compared with consistently poor CVH, other patterns of change in CVH were associated with lower risk of SCD. These findings highlight the importance of promotion of ideal CVH in the primordial prevention of SCD.

Data carriers using spin waves in spintronic and magnonic logic devices offer operation at low power consumption and free of Joule heating yet requiring noncollinear spin structures of small sizes. Heterometallic rings can provide such an opportunity due to the controlled spin-wave transmission within such a confined space. Here, we present a series of {ScnGdn} (n = 4, 6, 8) heterometallic rings, which are the first Sc-Ln clusters to date, with tunable magnetic interactions for spin-wave excitations. By means of time- and temperature-dependent spin dynamics simulations, we are able to predict distinct spin-wave excitations at finite temperatures for Sc4Gd4, Sc6Gd6, and Sc8Gd8. Such a new model is previously unexploited, especially due to the interplay of antiferromagnetic exchange, dipole-dipole interaction, and ring topology at low temperatures, rendering the importance of the latter to spin-wave excitations.

Abnormal DNA methylation can alter the gene expression to promote or inhibit tumorigenesis in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD). However, the finding important genes and key sites of abnormal DNA methylation which result in the occurrence of COAD is still an eventful task. Here, we studied the effects of DNA methylation in the 12 types of genomic features on the changes of gene expression in COAD, the 10 important COAD-related genes and the key abnormal DNA methylation sites were identified. The effects of important genes on the prognosis were verified by survival analysis. Moreover, it was shown that the important genes were participated in cancer pathways and were hub genes in a co-expression network. Based on the DNA methylation levels in the ten sites, the least diversity increment algorithm for predicting tumor tissues and normal tissues in seventeen cancer types are proposed. The better results are obtained in jackknife test. For example, the predictive accuracies are 94.17 %, 91.28 %, 89.04 % and 88.89 %, respectively, for COAD, rectum adenocarcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Finally, by computing enrichment score of infiltrating immunocytes and the activity of immune pathways, we found that the genes are highly correlated with immune microenvironment.
