RESUMO

To develop effective antibiotics alternatives is getting more and more important to poultry healthy production. The study investigated the effects of a microencapsulated essential oils and organic acids preparation (EOA) on growth performance, slaughter performance, nutrient digestibility and intestinal microenvironment of broilers. A total of 624 1-day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were randomly divided into 6 groups including the control group (T1) fed with basal diet, the antibiotic group (T2) supplemented with basal diet with 45 mg/kg bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD), and 4 inclusion levels of EOA-treated groups (T3, T4, T5, T6 groups) chickens given basal diet with 200, 400, 600, and 800 mg EOA/kg of diet, respectively. Results showed that compared with the control, the 200 mg/kg EOA group increased average daily gain (ADG) and average body weight (ABW) during the early stage (P < 0.05). EOA addition decreased crypt depth of the ileum (P < 0.05), but villus height to crypt depth ratio was increased by EOA addition at 200 and 400 mg/kg at d 21 (P < 0.05). Compared with the control, dietary addition EOA at 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg increased the lipase activity in the duodenum at d 21 (P < 0.05). Increased lactic acid bacteria population was found in cecal digesta of the 400 mg/kg EOA group at d 21 (P < 0.05), and higher concentration of butyric acid level was observed in cecal digesta at d 21 and d 42 in the 200 mg/kg EOA group compared with the control (P < 0.05). RT-PCR analysis found that dietary EOA addition decreased the gene expression of IL-1ß, COX-2 and TGF-ß4 in the ileum at d 21 (P < 0.05), while only the 200 mg/kg EOA increased the gene expression of IL-10, TGF-ß4, Claudin-1, ZO-1, CATH-1, CATH-3, AvBD-1, AvBD-9 and AvBD-12 in the ileum at d 42 (P < 0.05) compared with the control. In summary, adding 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg of the EOA to the diet could improve the growth performance and intestinal microenvironment through improving intestinal morphology, increasing digestive enzymes activity and cecal lactic acid bacteria abundance and butyric acid content, improving intestinal barrier function as well as maintaining intestinal immune homeostasis. The improving effect induced by EOA addition in the early growth stage was better than that in the later growth stage. Overall, the EOA product might be an effective antibiotic alternative for broiler industry.

Background: Genetic and acquired risk factors are fundamental to developing venous thromboembolism. Autosomal dominant protein S deficiency caused by pathogenic mutations in the PROS1 gene is a well-known risk factor for thrombophilia. Case presentation: We report a 30-year-old male patient who presented to the hospital with portal vein thrombosis. The patient had a history of abdominal pain for one month. Abdominal vascular CT showed venous thrombosis in the portal vein and superior mesenteric vein. He was diagnosed with "portal and superior mesenteric vein thrombosis, small bowel obstruction and necrosis, acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), hemorrhagic shock." Serum protein S levels were decreased, and gene sequencing revealed a heterozygous missense mutation in PROS1, c.1571T > G (p.Leu584Arg). The patient received anticoagulation therapy with Enoxaparin Sodium and rivaroxaban, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), and ICU treatments. Although the patient had a severe bleeding event during anticoagulation therapy, he recovered well after active treatment and dynamic monitoring of anti-Xa. Conclusion: Hereditary protein S deficiency caused by a mutation in the PROS1 gene is the genetic basis of this patient, and Enoxaparin Sodium and rivaroxaban have been shown to be highly effective.

Al2O3-bonded SiAlON ceramic with self-coating was prepared using aluminum dross and silicon solid waste as starting materials under ambient air conditions. The changes in phase, microstructure, and physical properties of the ceramic with temperature were analyzed and the formation mechanism of the SiAlON phase was elucidated. The results showed that higher temperature was more suitable for the preparation of SiAlON ceramics. As the temperature increased from 1400 to 1600 °C, the main phases in the ceramic transformed from mullite, Al2O3, and SiAlON to Al2O3 and SiAlON. An Al2O3-rich layer spontaneously coated the surface of the porous ceramic as Al melted and oxidized at high temperature. The thickness of this layer decreased as the temperature increased. The presence of Al2O3-rich coating layer impeded air flow, allowing nitriding of Si and Al, and the formation of the SiAlON phase in ambient air conditions. This study not only presents a strategy to successfully recycle aluminum dross and silicon solid waste but also offers a straightforward approach to preparing SiAlON material in air atmosphere.

Background: Interest in the application of deep learning (DL) in critical care medicine (CCM) is growing rapidly. However, comprehensive bibliometric research that analyze and measure the global literature is still lacking. Objective: The present study aimed to systematically evaluate the research hotspots and trends of DL in CCM worldwide based on the output of publications, cooperative relationships of research, citations, and the co-occurrence of keywords. Methods: A total of 1708 articles in all were obtained from Web of Science. Bibliometric analysis was performed by Bibliometrix package in R software (4.2.2), Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer (1.6.18), and CiteSpace (5.8.R3). Results: The annual publications increased steeply in the past five years, accounting for 95.67% (1634/1708) of all the included literature. China and USA contributed to approximately 71.66% (1244/1708) of all publications. Seven of the top ten most productive organizations rank in the top 100 universities globally. Hot spots in research on the application of DL in CCM have focused on classifying disease phenotypes, predicting early signs of clinical deterioration, and forecasting disease progression, prognosis, and death. Convolutional neural networks, long and short-term memory networks, recurrent neural networks, transformer models, and attention mechanisms were all commonly used DL technologies. Conclusion: Hot spots in research on the application of DL in CCM have focused on classifying disease phenotypes, predicting early signs of clinical deterioration, and forecasting disease progression, prognosis, and death. Extensive collaborative research to improve the maturity and robustness of the model remains necessary to make DL-based model applications sufficiently compelling for conventional CCM practice.

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common life-threatening critical illness with high mortality. Fusu mixture (FSM) can improve the mechanical ventilation in ARDS patients. However, the detailed pharmacological mechanisms and active substances of FSM are still unclear. This study aimed to explore the potential pharmacological mechanisms of FSM for treating ARDS and its chemical compositions. Methods: A lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ARDS mouse model was established, and the mice subsequently received FSM (50 mg/kg) orally for 5 days. Then, the blood samples and lung tissues were collected. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in serum, and histopathology examinations were applied to analyze the inflammatory response of lung tissues in ARDS mice. In addition, protein expressions of aquaporin 5 (AQP-5), surfactant-associated protein C (SP-C), and Notch1 were detected by western blot assays and immunohistochemical (IHC) examination. In addition, the chemical compositions of FSM were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), using standard reference agents. Results: After LPS induction, the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in ARDS mice were significantly increased (P<0.01, vs. Control), and FSM significantly reduced these 2 pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α) compared to the model mice (P<0.01). Histopathology examinations showed FSM significantly attenuated the inflammatory responses in lung tissues. Furthermore, after FSM treatment, the SP-C and AQP-5 were significantly increased, compared to the Model mice (P<0.01), and FSM also up-regulated the Notch1 expressions in lung tissues of ARDS mice (P<0.001, vs. Model). Conclusions: Collectively, it is suggested that FSM alleviates inflammatory reactions and promotes the proliferation of alveolar epithelial cells in LPS-induced ARDS mice via regulation of SP-C, AQP-5, and Notch1 in lung tissues.

BACKGROUND: Reducing Salmonella infection in broiler chickens by using effective and safe alternatives to antibiotics is vital to provide safer poultry meat and minimize the emergence of drug-resistant Salmonella and the spread of salmonellosis to humans. This study was to first evaluate the protective efficacy of feeding coated essential oils and organic acids mixture (EOA) on broiler chickens infected with Salmonella Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis, SE), and then its action mechanism was further explored. METHODS: A total of 480 1-day-old Arbor Acres male chickens were randomly assigned into five treatments with six replicates, including non-challenged control fed with basal diet (A), SE-challenged control (B), and SE-infected birds fed a basal diet with 300 mg/kg of EOA (BL), 500 mg/kg of EOA (BM) and 800 mg/kg of EOA (BH), respectively. All birds on challenged groups were infected with Salmonella Enteritidis on d 13.  RESULTS: Feeding EOA showed a reversed ability on negative effects caused by SE infection, as evidenced by decreasing the feed conversion rate (FCR) and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (VH/CD) (P < 0.05), obviously decreasing intestinal and internal organs Salmonella load along with increasing cecal butyric acid-producing bacteria abundance (P < 0.05). Moreover, supplemental different levels of EOA notably up-regulated claudin-1 (CLDN-1), occludin (OCLN), zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), mucin-2 (MUC-2), fatty acid binding protein-2 (FABP-2), nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), myeloid differential protein-88 (MyD88) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA levels in the ileum of the infected chickens after challenge, whereas down-regulated toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) mRNA levels (P < 0.05). Linear discriminant analysis combined effect size measurements analysis (LEfSe) showed that the relative abundance of g_Butyricicoccus, g_Anaerotruncus and g_unclassified_f_Bacillaceae significantly was enriched in infected birds given EOA. Also, phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states (PICRUSt) analysis showed that alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, fatty acid metabolism and biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids were significantly enriched in the EOA group. CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that the essential oils and organic acids mixture can be used as an effective strategy to ameliorate and alleviate Salmonella Enteritidis infection in broilers.

The search for effective in-feed antibiotic alternative is growing due to the global trend to reduce or ban the utilization of antibiotics as growth promotors in poultry diets. This study was processed to assess the effect of dietary refined functional carbohydrates (RFCs) replacing antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) on growth performance, intestinal morphologic structure and microbiota, as well as intestinal immune function and barrier function of broilers reared on a commercial broilers farm. Trials contained 3 treatments with 4 replicate broiler houses, with about 25,000 birds each room. The treatments were control group (CON), RFCs group (CON + 100 mg/kg RFCs), and AGP group (CON + 50 mg/kg bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD), respectively. Results showed that RFCs and AGP group significantly increased (P < 0.05) average daily gain (ADG) during d 22 to 45 in contrast to control. Compared with the control and AGP-treated groups, feeding RFCs increased (P < 0.05) jejunal villus height to crypt depth ratio. AGP addition reduced (P < 0.05) the jejunal villi surface area compared to broilers fed control and RFC supplemented diets. Supplementation of RFCs promoted (P < 0.05) the growth of Lactobacillus but inhibited Escherichia coli and Salmonella proliferation compared with the control group. Inclusion of RFCs and BMD enhanced (P < 0.05) antibody titers against avian influenza virus H9 compared with control. RFCs and AGP both down-regulated (P < 0.05) intestinal TLR4 mRNA levels, whereas RFCs tended to up-regulate (P = 0.05) IFN-γ gene expression compared to control. Expression of intestinal tight junction genes was not affected by either AGP or RFCs supplementation. Based on above observation, we suggested that RFCs could replace in-feed antibiotic BMD in broiler diets for reducing intestinal pathogenic bacteria and modulating immunity of broilers.

Colibacillosis caused by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is a very prevalent disease in poultry farms in China. The exploration of effective non-antibiotic substances is of great significance for the control of APEC infections. This experiment evaluated the efficacy of coated essential oil and organic acid (EOA) supplementation to prevent E. coli O78 infection in broiler chickens. A total of 288 one-day-old male broiler chicks were randomly distributed into 4 groups with 6 replicates per group. Chickens were fed a diet either supplemented with EOA (500 mg/kg feed) or not, and either uninfected or infected with E. coli O78 intratracheally. Results showed that E. coli O78 infection reduced body weight gain, increased mortality and the ratio of feed to gain along with cecal and liver E. coli load, damaged gut mucosa, induced local and systemic inflammation, and altered cecal microbial composition, diversity and function (P < 0.05). Supplemental EOA improved feed conversion efficiency, lowered gross lesion scores and cecal E. coli population, enhanced intestinal goblet cells and serum IgG concentration, and tended to decrease serum IL-12 production (P < 0.05). Essential oil and organic acid addition downregulated IFN-γ mRNA, tended to decrease mucin-2 mRNA levels while upregulating IL-10 mRNA, and tended to increase ZO-1 gene expression in the jejuna of infected birds at 7 d after E. coli O78 challenge (P < 0.05). The 16S rRNA gene sequencing indicated that both EOA addition and E. coli O78 challenge altered the diversity and composition of the cecal microbiota community. Furthermore, infected birds fed EOA showed decreased Bacteroidetes and genus Lactobacillus abundance compared with the infected control. LEfSe analysis showed that Firmicutes, Ruminococcaceae, Clostridiales, Clostridia, Lactobacillus, Lactobacilaceae, and cc-115 were enriched in the non-infected but EOA-treated group (P < 0.05). Collectively, dietary EOA supplementation could mildly alleviate E. coli-induced gut injury and inflammation.

BACKGROUND: Preventing Salmonella infection and colonization in young birds is key to improving poultry gut health and reducing Salmonella contamination of poultry products and decreasing salmonellosis for human consumption (poultry meat and eggs). Probiotics can improve poultry health. The present study was conducted to investigate the impact of a probiotics, Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 11181 (E. faecium NCIMB 11181) on the intestinal mucosal immune responses, microbiome and barrier function in the presence or absence of Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium, ST) infection. METHODS: Two hundred and forty 1-day-old Salmonella-free male broiler chickens (Arbor Acres AA+) were randomly allocated to four groups with 6 replicate cages of 10 birds each. The four experimental groups were follows: (1) negative control (NC), (2) S. Typhimurium, challenged positive control (PC), (3) the E. faecium NCIMB 11181-treated group (EF), (4) the E. faecium NCIMB 11181-treated and S. Typhimurium-challenged group (PEF). RESULTS: Results indicated that, although continuous feeding E. faecium NCIMB 11181 did not obviously alleviate growth depression caused by S. Typhimurium challenge (P > 0.05), E. faecium NCIMB 11181 addition significantly blocked Salmonella intestinal colonization and translocation (P < 0.05). Moreover, supplemental E. faecium NCIMB 11181 to the infected chickens remarkably attenuated gut morphological structure damage and intestinal cell apoptosis induced by S. Typhimurium infection, as evidenced by increasing gut villous height and reducing intestinal TUNEL-positive cell numbers (P < 0.05). Also, E. faecium NCIMB 11181 administration notably promoting the production of anti-Salmonella antibodies in intestinal mucosa and serum of the infected birds (P < 0.05). Additionally, 16S rRNA sequencing analysis revealed that E. faecium NCIMB 11181 supplementation ameliorated S. Typhimurium infection-induced gut microbial dysbiosis by enriching Lachnospiracease and Alistipes levels, and suppressing Barnesiella abundance. Predicted function analysis indicated that the functional genes of cecal microbiome involved in C5-branched dibasic acid metabolism; valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis; glycerolipid metabolism and lysine biosynthesis were enriched in the infected chickens given E. faecium NCIMB 11181. While alanine, asparate and glutamate metabolism; MAPK signal pathway-yeast; ubiquine and other terpenoid-quinore biosynthesis, protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum; as well as glutathione metabolism were suppressed by E. faecium NCIMB 11181 addition. CONCLUSION: Collectively, our data suggested that dietary E. faecium NCIBM 11181 supplementation could ameliorate S. Typhimurium infection-induced gut injury in broiler chickens. Our findings also suggest that E. faecium NCIMB 11181 may serve as an effective non-antibiotic feed additive for improving gut health and controlling Salmonella infection in broiler chickens.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the application value and effect of distance live broadcast in Clinical Anesthesiology teaching. METHODS: Undergraduate students of year 2017 who majored in Anesthesiology at the Wannan Medical College (China) were chosen as the study subjects. According to the different teaching methods, the students were divided into two groups: 59 in the traditional teaching group (control group) and 61 in the traditional teaching combined with distant live broadcasting teaching group (observation group). The teaching feedback, students' satisfaction, and the theory and skill scores of the course were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The teaching feedback in the observation group was better than that in the control group (P<0.05). The students' satisfaction rate with teaching and the theory and skill learning score in the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Traditional teaching combined with distant live broadcast teaching has achieved good results in clinical anesthesiology teaching, improved the overall quality of teaching, and has high clinical teaching value.

BACKGROUND: Shock is a major public health problem worldwide. At present, the morbidity and mortality of shock patients are relatively high. Vasomotor dysfunction is 1 of the key pathological aspects of shock. Shenfu injection has been widely used for the treatment of shock in China. Pharmacological studies have suggested that Shenfu injection can reduce peripheral circulation resistance and improve microcirculation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect and safety of Shenfu injection on the microcirculation of patients with shock. METHODS: This review summarizes and meta-analyzes randomized controlled trials of Shenfu injection for the treatment of shock.Searched the following electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang Data. The Cochrane risk assessment tool was used to evaluate the methodological quality of randomized controlled trials. All tests are analyzed according to the standards of the Cochrane Handbook. Review Manager 5.3, R-3.5.1 software and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation pro GDT web solution are used for data synthesis and analysis. RESULTS: This review focuses on the effects of Shenfu injection on the microcirculation of shock patients (blood lactic acid level, arteriovenous oxygen saturation, arteriovenous carbon dioxide partial pressure difference, sublingual microcirculation), 28-day mortality, 28-day ICU hospitalization and adverse reaction rate. CONCLUSION: This review provides a clear basis for evaluating the impact of Shenfu injection on the microcirculation of shock patients, as well as the effectiveness and safety of the treatment.

By a controllable and stepwise strategy, a soluble ladder-conjugated perylene derivative BPI-FBI as the only product has been synthesized, which avoids the tough work to isolate regioisomers generated by a conventional one-step condensation method. BPI-FBI exhibits broad absorption spectra covering the whole visible region from 300 to 700 nm because of the large π-conjugation skeleton and has a low LUMO level inheriting the prototype PDI. In the steady-state space-charge-limited current (SCLC) devices, BPI-FBI exhibits an intrinsic electron mobility of 1.01 × 10(-5) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1). With a high two photon absorbing activity in the near-infrared region from 1200 to 1400 nm, BPI-FBI also exhibits good optical limiting performance, which will be useful for sensor or human eye protection and stabilization of light sources for optical communications.

A new ladder-conjugated star-shaped oligomer electron-transporting material TetraPDI-PF, with four perylene diimide (PDI) branches and a fluorene core, was efficiently synthesized. The oligomer is highly soluble in dichlorobenzene with a solubility of 155 mg mL(-1), which is higher than those of PDI (35 mg mL(-1)) and PDI-Phen (70 mg mL(-1)). Demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the oligomer exhibits excellent thermal stability with the decomposition temperature (Td) of 291.2 °C, which is 65 °C higher than that of PDI. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) were employed to investigate the electrochemical properties. Although the CV curves of TetraPDI-PF are successively scanned for 15 cycles, they still remain invariable reduction potentials. The oligomer also shows outstanding photostability, even better than PDI, which maintains 99 % fluorescence intensity after irradiation for 10 min using maximum laser intensity. In the steady-state space-charge-limited current (SCLC) devices, TetraPDI-PF exhibits higher intrinsic electron mobility of 2.22×10(-5) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), three orders of magnitude over that of PDI (3.52×10(-8) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1)). The bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs) using TetraPDI-PF as non-fullerene acceptors and P3HT as donors give optimum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.64 %, which is 64 times that of the PDI:P3HT BHJ cells.
