RESUMO

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) frequently occurs accompanied by attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which catches increasing attention. The comorbid diagnosis of ASD with ADHD (ASD + ADHD) is permitted in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). However, compared to autism spectrum disorder without other symptoms (ASD-only), the special neural underpinnings in ASD+ADHD remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to uncover the differences in cortical complexity between ASD + ADHD and ASD-only patients. A total of 114 ASD participants (i.e. containing 40 ASD + ADHD and 74 ASD-only participants) with T1-weighted magnetic resonance images were collected from the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange II. Afterward, a surface-based morphometry method was carried out to compare the cortical complexity (i.e. gyrification index, fractal dimension, and sulcal depth) between the ASD + ADHD and ASD-only cohorts. Results showed the increased fractal dimension in the right fusiform gyrus of the ASD + ADHD cohort in comparison to the ASD-only cohort. Moreover, the ASD + ADHD cohort exhibited increased sulcal depth in the left middle temporal gyrus/inferior temporal gyrus and right middle temporal gyrus compared to the ASD-only cohort. Last but not least, the increased gyrification index in the insula/postcentral gyrus was observed in the ASD + ADHD cohort in comparison to the ASD-only cohort. Overall, the present study contributes to the delineation of particular structural abnormalities in ASD + ADHD than ASD-only, enriching the evidence of the combined phenotype of ASD + ADHD.

Currently, exploring effective measures to reduce multiple toxic metals accumulation in rice grains is an urgent issue to be tackled. Pot experiments were thus conducted to explore the effects and mechanisms of foliar spraying with composite sols of silicon (Si) and selenium (Se) during tillering to booting stage on diminishing cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) translocation to rice grains and affiliated physiological and biochemical responses in rice seedlings grown in Cd + Pb-polluted soils (positive control). Results showed that Cd and Pb contents in leaves or grains were distinctly below the positive control by the sols. Compared to the positive control, transcriptions of Cd transporter-related genes including OsLCT1, OsCCX2, OsHMA2 and OsPCR1 genes in leaves, and OsLCT1, OsCCX2, TaCNR2 and OSPCR1 in peduncles were downregulated by the increasing sols. Meanwhile, Se-binding protein 1 was evidently upregulated, together to retard Cd and Pb translocation to rice grains. The sols not only upregulated transcriptions of Lhcb1, RbcL, and OsBTF3 genes and production of psbA, Lhcb1 and RbcL proteins, but also increased the chlorophylls contents and RuBP carboxylase activities in the leaves, improving photosynthesis. The sols restrained ROS production from NADPH oxidases, but activated glutathione peroxidase, alleviating oxidative stress and damage. Additionally, Se was significantly enriched and was existed as selenomethionine in the rice grains. However, Pb transporter-related genes remain to be specified. Thus, the composite sols have potential to reduce Cd and Pb accumulation, mitigate oxidative damage, and promote photosynthesis and organic Se enrichment in rice plants under Cd and Pb combined pollution.

Based on density functional theory (DFT), first-principles molecular dynamics (MD), and the grand canonical ensemble Monte Carlo (GCMC) method, we investigated the boron substitution in aromatic rings of graphyne in terms of geometric and electronic structures as well as its bifunctional application including Li and H2 storage. The calculated binding energies of B-doped graphyne (BG) are significantly enhanced at two adsorptive sites compared to pristine graphyne, leading to high lithiation potentials of 2.7 V in 6Li@1BG, and even higher with 3.0 V in 6Li@3BG. Thus, 6Li@1BG with a capacity of 1125 mA h g(-1), which is much larger than other carbon materials, is proposed to be a good anode material in lithium-ion batteries. For further hydrogen storage in 6Li@nBG, the results show that it can steadily adsorb at least 8H2 in DFT, MD and GCMC computations, and the excess gravimetric H2 uptake is 7.4 wt% at ambient conditions, exceeding the 2017 DOE target. Our multiscale simulations demonstrate that chemical modifications in two-dimensional carbon structures are very promising for high lithium storage and hydrogen uptake.
