RESUMO

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays an important role in regulating the fate of mercury (Hg), e.g., mobility, bioavailability, and toxicity. Clarifying the role of DOM in binding Hg in the treatment processes of sewage sludge is important for relieving Hg contamination risks in land applications. However, the impacts of DOM on Hg binding in sewage sludge are still unclear. In this study, we investigated the evolution of Hg and its speciation in full-scale sludge anaerobic digestion (AD) with thermal hydrolysis. The role of DOM in binding Hg(II) was further analyzed. The results showed that AD with thermal hydrolysis led to an increase in the Hg content in the sludge (from 3.72 ± 0.47 mg/kg to 10.75 ± 0.16 mg/kg) but a decrease in Hg mobility (the mercury sulfide fraction increased from 60.56 % to 79.78 %). Further adsorption experiments revealed that at equivalent DOM concentrations, DOM with a low molecular weight (MW<1 kDa) in activated sludge, DOM with a medium molecular weight (1 kDa 5 kDa) in both anaerobically digested sludge and conditioned sludge showed high binding amounts of Hg(II), with 1372.54, 535.28, 942.09 and 801.51 mg Hg/g DOM, respectively. Parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and fluorescence quotient (FQ) results showed that tryptophan-like and tyrosine-like substances had high binding affinities for Hg(II). Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the reduced organic sulfur contained in the DOM was potentially bound to Hg through the interactions of Hg-S and Hg-O. These results indicated that DOM may play special roles in regulating Hg speciation. The association between DOM and Hg(II), such as the significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) between the dissolution rate of Hg(II) and release of tryptophan-like substances during thermal hydrolysis, suggested the potential way for removing Hg from sludge.

RESUMO

We propose what we believe to be a novel direct detection phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) based on ultra-weak fiber Bragg grating (UWFBG) array to achieve distributed vibration measurements with exceptional sensitivity and remarkable stability. Our system employs a pulse modulator to generate a double pulse and achieves linear phase modulation of one pulse by one cycle through a phase modulator. The phase change can be quantitatively demodulated using our proposed N-step phase-shifted demodulation algorithm. This method effectively mitigates the influence of phase noise of the laser and the pulse modulator, while also eliminating fluctuations in the half-voltage of the phase modulator. Compared with the existing phase modulation methods, our method avoids stringent requirements for the stability and precision of phase modulation. Moreover, we propose a phase-shifted approximation method, breaking the limitation of sensing length on the traditional differential approximation method and improving the accuracy significantly. The technique's effectiveness is experimentally demonstrated on a 1 km UWFBG array with a reflectivity of -40 dB to -45 dB and a spatial resolution of 10 m. Vibrations with different amplitudes are measured quantitatively with good linearity. The low-frequency self-noise is greatly suppressed and the overall self-noise is -54.3 dB rad2/Hz.

RESUMO

We have developed a miniaturized multi-channel parallel optical air data system with high signal-to-noise ratio for airborne application. In the system, we designed a fiber amplifier with multi-channel high-energy output that was respectively used as the transmitting signals and a compact multi-axis transceiver with an entrance pupil diameter of 70 mm that was used to receive multi-channel signals simultaneously. We demonstrated the performance of our system both on ground and on board. On ground, the measured line-of-sight speed had an average error of 0.02 m/s and a standard deviation of 0.15 m/s. On board, the standard deviation between the true air speed, angle of attack, and angle of sideslip measured by our system and a commercial Swiss air data system was 1 kt, 0.68°, and 0.54°, respectively, and those standard deviation between our system and a system with the same design but employing multiple single-axis telescopes with entrance pupil diameter of 30 mm was 0.34 kt, 0.36°, and 0.28°, respectively. The signal-to-noise ratio of our system was 4.5 times higher than that of the system with small single-axis telescopes. Our system is very promising for airborne applications because of its small volume, high signal-to-noise ratio, and high data rate.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture has been used for the treatment of chronic migraine, but high-quality evidence is scarce. We aimed to evaluate acupuncture's efficacy and safety compared to topiramate for chronic migraine. METHODS: This double-dummy randomized controlled trial included participants aged 18-65 years diagnosed with chronic migraine. They were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive acupuncture (three sessions/week) plus topiramate placebo (acupuncture group) or topiramate (50-100 mg/day) plus sham acupuncture (topiramate group) over 12 weeks, with the primary outcome being the mean change in monthly migraine days during weeks 1-12. RESULTS: Of 123 screened patients, 60 (mean age 45.8, 81.7% female) were randomly assigned to acupuncture or topiramate groups. Acupuncture demonstrated significantly greater reductions in monthly migraine days than topiramate (weeks 1-12: -2.79 [95% CI: -4.65 to -0.94, p = 0.004]; weeks 13-24: -3.25 [95% CI: -5.57 to -0.92, p = 0.007]). No severe adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture may be safe and effective for treating chronic migraine. The efficacy of 12 weeks of acupuncture was sustained for 24 weeks and superior to that of topiramate. Acupuncture can be used as an optional preventive therapy for chronic migraine. RESUMO

The evolution of the information transfer capability of an optical system for underwater focused wave mode localized wave (FWMLW) in anisotropic weakly turbulent absorbing seawater is studied. By developing the probability distribution function as well as the detection probability of the vortex modes carried by the FWMLW and the average bit error rate of the FWMLW underwater system, the information capacity of the FWMLW system with a pointing error is modeled. Through a numerical analysis of the effects of turbulent seawater and optical system parameters on the built light intensity, the detection probability, and the information capacity models, we find that the FWMLW system has an optimal delay time determined by the spectrum bandwidth when the spectrum bandwidth is greater than 1. The information capacity of the FWMLW system is higher than that of the X localized wave system under the same turbulent seawater channel condition, and FWMLW is a better optical signal source for vortex mode division multiplexing underwater systems than a Bessel-Gaussian beam.

RESUMO

Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is a disease characterized by spermatogenesis failure and comprises phenotypes such as hypospermatogenesis, mature arrest, and Sertoli cell-only syndrome. Studies have shown that FA cross-linked anemia (FA) pathway is closely related to the occurrence of NOA. There are FA gene mutations in male NOA patients, which cause significant damage to male germ cells. The FA pathway is activated in the presence of DNA interstrand cross-links; the key step in activating this pathway is the mono-ubiquitination of the FANCD2-FANCI complex, and the activation of the FA pathway can repair DNA damage such as DNA double-strand breaks. Therefore, we believe that the FA pathway affects germ cells during DNA damage repair, resulting in minimal or even disappearance of mature sperm in males. This review summarizes the regulatory mechanisms of FA-related genes in male azoospermia, with the aim of providing a theoretical reference for clinical research and exploration of related genes.

RESUMO

Parameter optimization (PO) methods to determine the ionic current composition of experimental cardiac action potential (AP) waveform have been developed using a computer model of cardiac membrane excitation. However, it was suggested that fitting a single AP record in the PO method was not always successful in providing a unique answer because of a shortage of information. We found that the PO method worked perfectly if the PO method was applied to a pair of a control AP and a model output AP in which a single ionic current out of six current species, such as IKr, ICaL, INa, IKs, IKur or IbNSC was partially blocked in silico. When the target was replaced by a pair of experimental control and IKr-blocked records of APs generated spontaneously in human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs), the simultaneous fitting of the two waveforms by the PO method was hampered to some extent by the irregular slow fluctuations in the Vm recording and/or sporadic alteration in AP configurations in the hiPSC-CMs. This technical problem was largely removed by selecting stable segments of the records for the PO method. Moreover, the PO method was made fail-proof by running iteratively in identifying the optimized parameter set to reconstruct both the control and the IKr-blocked AP waveforms. In the lead potential analysis, the quantitative ionic mechanisms deduced from the optimized parameter set were totally consistent with the qualitative view of ionic mechanisms of AP so far described in physiological literature.

RESUMO

The proliferation of unverified or false information by irresponsible users can significantly amplify the spread of misinformation or fake news. Despite growing research on unverified information sharing, a comprehensive understanding of the varying influences of different factors and strategies to mitigate this issue remains under investigation. To address this research gap, this study, rooted in the theory of herd behavior, develops, and tests a model theorizing the reasons behind social media users' unverified information sharing. Data was collected from 510 respondents across six regions of China using a convenience sampling method. The collected data was analyzed using Mplus. The results from this study indicated that perceived severity, state uncertainty, and herding have a significant positive influence on unverified information sharing. These results enrich the understanding of unverified information-sharing behavior among Chinese social media users. Drawing from these results, we suggest platform administrators and policymakers mitigate herd behavior tendencies and stem the spread of misinformation by disseminating timely, accurate, and authoritative information. Since this action will reduce users' perceptions of severity and uncertainty. Social media users are also advised to stay vigilant over the implications of herd behavior and foster a more critical attitude towards information sharing.

RESUMO

Background: Predicting flap viability benefits patients by reducing complications and guides flap design by reducing donor areas. Due to varying anatomy, obtaining individual vascular information preoperatively is fundamental for designing safe flaps. Although indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) is a conventional tool in intraoperative assessment and postoperative monitoring, it is rare in preoperative prediction. Methods: ICGA was performed on 20 male BALB/c mice under five wavelengths (900/1,000/1,100, /1,250/1,450 nm) to assess vascular resolution after ICG perfusion. A "mirrored-L" flap model with three angiosomes was established on another 20 male BALB/c mice, randomly divided into two equal groups. In Group A, a midline between angiosomes II and III was used as a border. In Group B, the points of the minimized choke vessel caliber marked according to the ICG signal at 1,450 nm wavelength (ICG1450) were connected. Necrotic area calculations, pathohistological testing, and statistical analysis were performed. Results: The vascular structure was clearly observed at 1,450 nm wavelength, while the 900 to 1,100 nm failed to depict vessel morphology. Necrosis was beyond the borderline in 60% of Group A. Conversely, 100% of Group B had necrosis distal to the borderline. The number of choke vessels between angiosomes II and III was positively correlated with the necrotic area (%). The pathohistological findings supported the gross observation and analysis. Conclusion: ICG1450 can delineate the vessel structure in vivo and predict the viability of pedicled skin flaps using the choke vessel as the border between angiosomes.

RESUMO

Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) is one of the most malignant tumors in the digestive system. To make thing worse, the scarcity of treatment options is disheartening. However, if detected early, there is a possibility of reversing the condition. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of relevant early screening methods. Considering that Barrett's esophagus (BE), a precursor lesion of EAC, has been confirmed as the only known precursor of EAC. Analyzing which BE cases will progress to EAC and understanding the processes and mechanisms involved is of great significance for early screening of such patients. Considering the significant alterations in the gut microbiota of patients with BE and its potential role in the progression to EAC, this study aims to analyze the relationship between BE, EAC, and GM to identify potential diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. This study utilized comprehensive statistical data on gut microbiota from a large-scale genome-wide association meta-analysis conducted by the MiBioGen consortium (n = 18,340). Subsequently, we selected a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that fell below the genome-wide significance threshold (1 × 10-5) as instrumental variables. To investigate the causal relationship between gut microbiota and BE and EAC, we employed various MR analysis methods, including Inverse Variance Weighting (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median (WM), and weighted mean. Additionally, we assessed the level of pleiotropy, heterogeneity, and stability of genetic variations through MR-Egger intercept test, MR-PRESSO, Cochran's Q test, and "leave-one-out" sensitivity analysis. Furthermore, we conducted reverse MR analysis to identify the causal relationships between gut microbiota and BE and EAC. The results from the Inverse Variance-Weighted (IVW) analysis indicate that Alistipes (P = 4.86 × 10-2), Lactobacillus (P = 2.11 × 10-2), Prevotella 7 (P = 4.28 × 10-2), and RuminococcaceaeUCG004 (P = 4.34 × 10-2) are risk factors for Barrett's esophagus (BE), while Flavonifractor (P = 8.81 × 10-3) and RuminococcaceaeUCG004 (P = 4.99 × 10-2) are risk factors for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). On the other hand, certain gut microbiota genera appear to have a protective effect against both BE and EAC. These include Eubacterium (nodatum group) (P = 4.51 × 10-2), Holdemania (P = 1.22 × 10-2), and Lactococcus (P = 3.39 × 10-2) in the BE cohort, as well as Eubacterium (hallii group) (P = 4.07 × 10-2) and Actinomyces (P = 3.62 × 10-3) in the EAC cohort. According to the results of reverse MR analysis, no significant causal effects of BE and EAC on gut microbiota were observed. Furthermore, no significant heterogeneity or pleiotropy was detected in the instrumental variables. We have established a causal relationship between the gut microbiota and BE and EAC. This study holds profound significance for screening BE patients who may be at risk of deterioration, as it can provide them with timely medical interventions to reverse the condition.

RESUMO

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) associated pain commonly predicts adverse events among patients. This clinical feature indicates the engagement of nociceptors on sensory neurons during the development of malignancy. However, it is yet to be determined if targeting oncometabolite-associated nociception processes can hinder OSCC progression. In this study, we reported that nociceptive endings infiltrating both clinical samples and mouse tumor xenografts were associated with poorer clinical outcomes and drove tumor progression in vivo, as evidenced by clinical tissue microarray analysis and murine lingual denervation. We observed that the OSCC microenvironment was characteristic of excessive adenosine due to CD73 upregulation which negatively predicted clinical outcomes in the TCGA-HNSC patient cohort. Notably, such adenosine concentrative OSCC niche was associated with the stimulation of adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) on trigeminal ganglia. Antagonism of trigeminal A2AR with a selective A2AR inhibitor SCH58261 resulted in impeded OSCC growth in vivo. We showed that trigeminal A2AR overstimulation in OSCC xenograft did not entail any changes in the transcription level of CGRP in trigeminal ganglia but significantly triggered the release of CGRP, an effect counteracted by SCH58261. We further demonstrated the pro-tumor effect of CGRP by feeding mice with the clinically approved CGRP receptor antagonist rimegepant which inhibited the activation of ERK and YAP. Finally, we diminished the impact of CGRP on OSCC with istradefylline, a clinically available drug that targets neuronal A2AR. Therefore, we established trigeminal A2AR-mediated CGRP release as a promising druggable circuit in OSCC treatment.

RESUMO

Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) leukemia is a fatal hematological malignancy. Although standard treatments with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have achieved remarkable success in prolonging patient survival, intolerance, relapse, and TKI resistance remain serious issues for patients with Ph+ leukemia. Here, we report a new leukemogenic process in which RAPSYN and BCR-ABL co-occur in Ph+ leukemia, and RAPSYN mediates the neddylation of BCR-ABL. Consequently, neddylated BCR-ABL enhances the stability by competing its c-CBL-mediated degradation. Furthermore, SRC phosphorylates RAPSYN to activate its NEDD8 E3 ligase activity, promoting BCR-ABL stabilization and disease progression. Moreover, in contrast to in vivo ineffectiveness of PROTAC-based degraders, depletion of RAPSYN expression, or its ligase activity decreased BCR-ABL stability and, in turn, inhibited tumor formation and growth. Collectively, these findings represent an alternative to tyrosine kinase activity for the oncoprotein and leukemogenic cells and generate a rationale of targeting RAPSYN-mediated BCR-ABL neddylation for the treatment of Ph+ leukemia.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML for short) accounts for about 15% of all blood cancers diagnosed in adults in the United States. The condition is characterized by the overproduction of immature immune cells that interfere with proper blood function. It is linked to a gene recombination (a type of mutation) that leads to white blood cells producing an abnormal 'BCR-ABL' enzyme which is always switched on. In turn, this overactive protein causes the cells to live longer and divide uncontrollably. Some of the most effective drugs available to control the disease today work by blocking the activity of BCR-ABL. Yet certain patients can become resistant to these treatments over time, causing them to relapse. Other approaches are therefore needed to manage this disease; in particular, a promising avenue of research consists in exploring whether it is possible to reduce the amount of the enzyme present in diseased cells. As part of this effort, Zhao, Dai, Li, Zhang et al. focused on RAPSYN, a scaffolding protein previously unknown in CML cells. In other tissues, it has recently been shown to participate in neddylation a process by which proteins receive certain chemical 'tags' that change the way they behave. The experiments revealed that, compared to healthy volunteers, RAPSYN was present at much higher levels in the white blood cells of CML patients. Experimentally lowering the amount of RAPSYN in CML cells led these to divide less quickly both in a dish and when injected in mice, while also being linked to decreased levels of BCR-ABL. Additional biochemical experiments indicated that RAPSYN sticks with BCR-ABL to add chemical 'tags' that protect the abnormal protein against degradation, therefore increasing its overall levels. Finally, the team showed that SRC, an enzyme often dysregulated in emerging cancers, can activate RAPSYN's ability to conduct neddylation; such mechanism could promote BCR-ABL stabilization and, in turn, disease progression. Taken together, these experiments indicate a new way by which BCR-ABL levels are controlled. Future studies should investigate whether RAPSYN also stabilizes BCR-ABL in patients whose leukemias have become resistant to existing drugs. Eventually, RAPSYN may offer a new target for overcoming drug-resistance in CML patients.

RESUMO

High-refractive-index polymers are important optical materials in optoelectronics. Conventional cyclic olefin polymers (COPs), possessing many excellent optical properties, are a class of highly promising optical materials; however, one of the greatest obstacles is their low refractive index of n = 1.52-1.54. Here, one efficient strategy of first incorporating high molar refraction groups, including carbazolyl and indolyl moieties, into unsaturated COPs via ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and then introducing another high molar refraction sulfur atom by a subsequent thiol-ene click reaction is presented. The obtained cross-linked COPs bearing both an aromatic group and sulfur possess significantly higher refractive indices (n = 1.611-1.684 at 589 nm) and highly optical transparency (approximately 95%) in the range of vis-NIR. This provides a way toward potential applications of new-generation optical materials.

RESUMO

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome with insulin resistance (PCOS-IR) is the most common endocrine and metabolic disease in women of reproductive age, and low fertility in PCOS patients may be associated with oocyte quality; however, the molecular mechanism through which PCOS-IR affects oocyte quality remains unknown. Methods: A total of 22 women with PCOS-IR and 23 women without polycystic ovary syndrome (control) who underwent in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer were recruited, and clinical information pertaining to oocyte quality was analyzed. Lipid components of follicular fluid (FF) were detected using high-coverage targeted lipidomics, which identified 344 lipid species belonging to 19 lipid classes. The exact lipid species associated with oocyte quality were identified. Results: The number (rate) of two pronuclear (2PN) zygotes, the number (rate) of 2PN cleaved embryos, and the number of high-quality embryos were significantly lower in the PCOS-IR group. A total of 19 individual lipid classes and 344 lipid species were identified and quantified. The concentrations of the 19 lipid species in the normal follicular fluid (control) ranged between 10-3 mol/L and 10-9 mol/L. In addition, 39 lipid species were significantly reduced in the PCOS-IR group, among which plasmalogens were positively correlated with oocyte quality. Conclusions: This study measured the levels of various lipids in follicular fluid, identified a significantly altered lipid profile in the FF of PCOS-IR patients, and established a correlation between poor oocyte quality and plasmalogens in PCOS-IR patients. These findings have contributed to the development of plasmalogen replacement therapy to enhance oocyte quality and have improved culture medium formulations for oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM).

RESUMO

Liver fibrosis is a chronic pathological condition lacking specific clinical treatments. Stem cells, with notable potential in regenerative medicine, offer promise in treating liver fibrosis. However, stem cell therapy is hindered by potential immunological rejection, carcinogenesis risk, efficacy variation, and high cost. Stem cell secretome-based cell-free therapy offers potential solutions to address these challenges, but it is limited by low delivery efficiency and rapid clearance. Herein, an innovative approach for in situ implantation of smart microneedle (MN) arrays enabling precisely controlled delivery of multiple therapeutic agents directly into fibrotic liver tissues is developed. By integrating cell-free and platinum-based nanocatalytic combination therapy, the MN arrays can deactivate hepatic stellate cells. Moreover, they promote excessive extracellular matrix degradation by more than 75%, approaching normal levels. Additionally, the smart MN arrays can provide hepatocyte protection while reducing inflammation levels by ≈70-90%. They can also exhibit remarkable capability in scavenging almost 100% of reactive oxygen species and alleviating hypoxia. Ultimately, this treatment strategy can effectively restrain fibrosis progression. The comprehensive in vitro and in vivo experiments, supplemented by proteome and transcriptome analyses, substantiate the effectiveness of the approach in treating liver fibrosis, holding immense promise for clinical applications.

RESUMO

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is an unavoidable environmental toxin. The accumulation of AFB1 and its metabolites in the liver poses a threat to both human and animal health. Curcumin exhibits anti-oxidative, anti-tumor, and anti-inflammatory properties. There is no report on the mechanism regarding how curcumin relived liver necroptosis in chickens induced by AFB1 based on the regulatory network of ceRNA. To explore this, we performed transmission electron microscopy and sequenced lncRNA and mRNA in chicken livers treated with AFB1 and/or curcumin for 28 d in vivo. We observed substantial alterations in the lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles within the chicken liver, indicating that curcumin can mitigate AFB1-induced necroptosis both in vivo and in vitro. Further analysis, including the establishment of an lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network and the utilization of a dual luciferase reporter assay, revealed that LOC769044 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for miR-1679. In addition, STAT1 was identified as a direct target of miR-1679. Modulating miR-1679 levels through overexpression, and silencing LOC769044 and STAT1, effectively reversed the necroptotic effects induced by AFB1, a reversal that was also observed with curcumin supplementation. In conclusion, our data demonstrate that curcumin alleviates AFB1-induced liver necroptosis through the LOC769044/miR-1679/STAT1 signaling axis. This study suggests that LOC769044 may serve as a novel therapeutic target for managing AFB1-mediated liver toxicity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Gynecological cancer-related lower extremity lymphedema (GC-LEL), a chronic, progressive condition, lacks a standardized treatment. Currently, supraclavicular vascularized lymph node transfer (SC-VLNT) is a favored approach in the treatment of lymphedema, and there is a trend toward combination technology. This study conducts a comparative analysis of three techniques for treating GC-LEL with simultaneous SC-VLNT and liposuction. METHODS: A cohort of 35 patients with GC-LEL was examined, comprising 13 patients who underwent single lymph nodes flap with a skin paddle (SLNF+P), 12 who received single lymph nodes flap without a skin paddle (SLNF), and 10 who accepted dual lymph nodes flap without a skin paddle (DLNF). Patient demographics and outcomes were meticulously documented, covering intra- and postoperative variables. RESULTS: The median limb volume reduction were 56.4% (SLNF+P), 60.8% (SLNF), and 50.5% (DLNF) in stage II, and 54.0% (SLNF+P), 59.8% (SLNF), and 54.4% (DLNF) in stage III. DLNF group procedures entailed longer flap harvesting and transplantation times. The SLNF+P group, on average, had an 8-day postoperative hospitalization, longer than others. All patients noted subjective improvements in Lymphedema Quality of Life scores, with lymphoscintigraphy revealing enhanced lymphatic flow in 29 of the 35 cases. A notable decrease in cellulitis incidence was observed. Additionally, the occurrence of cellulitis decreased significantly, except for DLNF (Stage Ⅱ). The median follow-up time was 16 months (range, 12-36 months), with no reported severe postoperative complications. CONCLUSIONS: For advanced GC-LEL, SLNF combined with liposuction is a preferred treatment, offering fewer complications, shorter operative time, and hospitalization.

RESUMO

Steamed bread has long been an important part of Chinese cuisine. This study investigated the effects of salted egg white (SEW) (5, 10, 15, and 20% w/w) on the quality of steamed breads. Findings revealed that SEW notably enhanced the bread's volume and texture, with a 20% inclusion significantly boosting water retention and rheological properties, albeit reducing bread's lightness. In addition, the H-bond absorption band intensity in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis showed increased peak intensities with higher SEW levels, indicative of protein structure alterations. X-ray diffraction confirmed the presence of an amylose-lipid complex. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) imaging depicted a smooth, consistent protein network with SEW addition. Consumer sensory evaluation responded favourably to the SEW15 steamed bread, suggesting its potential for food industry application. Overall, the study considers SEW an effective ingredient for improving steamed bread quality.

RESUMO

Compared to 3D perovskites, 2D perovskites exhibit excellent stability, structural diversity, and tunable bandgaps, making them highly promising for applications in solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors. However, the trade-off for worse charge transport is a critical issue that needs to be addressed. This comprehensive review first discusses the structure of 3D and 2D metal halide perovskites, then summarizes the significant factors influencing charge transport in detail and provides a brief overview of the testing methods. Subsequently, various strategies to improve the charge transport are presented, including tuning A'-site organic spacer cations, A-site cations, B-site metal cations, and X-site halide ions. Finally, an outlook on the future development of improving the 2D perovskites' charge transport is discussed.

RESUMO

Understanding the stability mechanism of surface micro/nanobubbles adhered to gas-evolving electrodes is essential for improving the efficiency of water electrolysis, which is known to be hindered by the bubble coverage on electrodes. Using molecular simulations, the diffusion-controlled evolution of single electrolytic nanobubbles on wettability-patterned nanoelectrodes is investigated. These nanoelectrodes feature hydrophobic islands as preferential nucleation sites and allow the growth of nanobubbles in the pinning mode. In these simulations, a threshold current density distinguishing stable nanobubbles from unstable nanobubbles is found. When the current density remains below the threshold value, nucleated nanobubbles grow to their equilibrium states, maintaining their nanoscopic size. However, for the current density above the threshold value, nanobubbles undergo unlimited growth and can eventually detach due to buoyancy. Increasing the pinning length of nanobubbles increases the degree of nanobubble instability. By connecting the current density with the local gas oversaturation, an extension of the stability theory for surface nanobubbles [Lohse and Zhang, Phys. Rev. E 91, 031003(R) (2015)] accurately predicts the nanobubble behavior found in molecular simulations, including equilibrium contact angles and the threshold current density. For larger systems that are not accessible to molecular simulations, continuum numerical simulations with the finite difference method combined with the immersed boundary method are performed, again demonstrating good agreement between numerics and theories.
