RESUMO

In this paper, we report the synthetic strategy of direct arylation polymerization (DAP) for four 2,2'-bithiophene-based conjugated microporous polymers (the 2,2'-BTh-based CMPs) by coupling 2,2'-bithiophene with the building blocks containing bromine. Compared to conventional coupling polymerization, this synthetic scheme is simple, facile and atomically efficient owing to neither preactivating the C-H bonds in 2,2'-bithiophene using organometallic reagents nor synthesis of complex thiophene-based building blocks. The resulting 2,2'-BTh-based CMPs exhibit excellent thermal stability, high specific surface areas, and good microporosity. Their specific surface areas are higher than that of other previously reported CMPs prepared with DAP. The four 2,2'-BTh-based CMPs can be utilized for multicolor fluorescence sensing of 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) with the high sensitivity and selectivity. The sensitivities appear to increase with the degree of structural distortion.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aimed to describe the effects of low-dose (prednisolone acetate 2.5-7.5 mg/day) glucocorticoids (GCs) maintenance therapy in patients with primary nephrotic syndrome (NS) suffering from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: A single-center retrospective study of NS patients with COVID-19 infection in Zhongda Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University from 1 February 2022 to 31 March 2023 was conducted. All enrolled patients underwent renal biopsy for the pathological diagnosis and reached complete remission (CR) or near-CR before COVID-19 infection. According to the maintained therapy regimen, patients were divided into low-dose GCs group and non-GCs group. Results: A total of 125 patients were enrolled in the study. Their median age was 46.0 ± 15.6 years, and the median value of 24-h urine protein was 0.77 g. The majority of these patients received treatment for more than 6 months, with a significant portion achieving CR (29.6%) or near-CR (43.2%). The leading cause of NS was membranous nephropathy (52%). There were no significant differences in the baseline characteristics between low-dose GCs and non-GCs group. As compared to those in the non-GCs group, patients receiving low-dose GCs treatment showed less fatigue or muscle weakness, smell disorder, palpitations, decreased appetite, taste disorder, dizziness, sore throat or difficult to swallow and fever (p < 0.05). Moreover, patients in the low-dose GCs group were with higher median quality of life scores (85.0) than in the non-GCs group (p = 0.001). Further serum inflammatory factor analysis indicated that interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in the non-GCs group were significantly higher than that in the low-dose GCs group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Patients with NS in low-dose GCs maintenance therapy stage showed milder symptom, higher quality of life and decreased serum IL-6 levels compared to those, who were not on GCs maintenance therapy. These results suggest the beneficial effect of low-dose GCs therapy in NS patients with CR/near-CR suffering from COVID-19 infection.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cooked meat is a good source of high-quality protein. However, during long-term cooking of meat, radical-induced lipid and protein oxidation may lead to the formation of poisonous compounds, such as heterocyclic amines (HAs). This work investigated a testing method for HAs and it describes that cooking temperature, cooking time and repeated cooking times have influences on the overall quality of braised sauce beef and the effect of HAs formation. RESULTS: The improved method has a good separation effect on nine kinds of HAs. The average recovery of HAs at two spiked levels is between 51.70% and 88.25% (n = 6). The detection limit is 0.025-0.060 ng g-1 , and the limit of quantitation is 0.070-0.160 ng g-1 . Only harman and norharman were detected in samples. Cooking time and cooking temperature will affect the quality and HA content of samples. When the braised sauce beef soup was cooked 20 times, the HA content was the highest - as high as 21.43 ng g-1 . The more times the beef was cooked repeatedly, the higher was the HA content. Under different cooking conditions, glucose has a significant effect on the formation of ß-carboline. CONCLUSION: We have established a detection method for HAs with good repeatability and accuracy. HAs were more easily formed in braised sauce beef by high temperature, long heating and repeated brine cooking. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

The Catellani reaction provides an efficient synthetic approach to polyfunctionalized arenes. However, the selective ortho-arylating reagents employed in these reactions have been strictly limited to activated bromoarenes. As demonstrated in this work, aryl diazonium salts bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, after in situ transformations with KI into the corresponding iodoarenes, were efficient arylating reagents for Catellani type ortho-arylation approaches.

RESUMO

Dietary self-management is an important strategy for controlling bowel symptoms after sphincter-saving surgery; however, the dietary factors influencing bowel symptoms are not completely clear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the specific consumption of food components and bowel symptoms. This study applied a cross-sectional study design. Using convenience sampling, a total of 169 patients with rectal cancer after sphincter-saving surgery were selected from a tertiary hospital. Data were collected through three questionnaires, including general and treatment-related questionnaires, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) bowel function scale-Chinese version, and the Food Frequency Questionnaire. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the collected data. It was found that the consumption of fruit, cholesterol, and protein and the interaction of cereals and milk products were the main dietary factors affecting bowel symptoms in patients after sphincter-saving surgery. The consumption of protein and fruit was negatively correlated with the symptoms of frequent and urgent defecation, and the consumption of fruit and protein was negatively correlated with general bowel function. The consumption of fruit was negatively correlated with the abnormal feeling of defecation, and the interaction between cereals and milk products was positively correlated with the abnormal feeling of defecation. The results of this study provide evidence for medical staff to further develop scientific dietary education programs to relieve bowel symptoms and promote the quality of life of patients in the future. More research is also needed to explore the mechanisms of the effects of different food components on bowel symptoms in patients after sphincter-saving surgery in the future.

RESUMO

AIM: To explore the experience of dealing with defecation dysfunction by changing the eating behaviours of people with rectal cancer following sphincter-saving surgery. DESIGN: The descriptive qualitative design was applied. METHODS: Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 36 purposively selected rectal cancer survivors who had experienced sphincter-saving surgery. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The thematic analysis was used to structure the data analysis. RESULTS: Three major themes, namely "have motivations to change diet"; "need strategies to change diet" and "face barriers to change diet" were generated along with 12 subthemes. Overall, needing to change one's dietary behaviour is the most important theme in addressing defecation dysfunction in patients following sphincter-saving surgery. Future studies need to focus more on the specific relationship between different food types and the degree of defecation dysfunction. Systematic, scientific and continuous instructions on eating behaviour are in great need for patients after sphincter-saving surgery.

RESUMO

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a severe health problem worldwide, and vascular calcification (VC) contributes substantially to the cardiovascular morbidity and high mortality of CKD. CKD is often accompanied by a variety of pathophysiological states, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, hyperglycaemia, hyperparathyroidism and haemodynamic derangement, that can cause injuries to smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and endothelial cells (ECs) to promote VC. Similar to SMCs, whose role has been widely explored in VC, ECs may contribute to VC via osteochondral transdifferentiation, apoptosis, etc. In addition, given their location in the innermost layer of the blood vessel lumen and preferential reception of various pro-calcification stimuli, ECs can pass messages to vascular wall cells and communicate with them. Crosstalk between ECs and SMCs via cytokines through a paracrine mechanism, extracellular vesicles, miRNAs and myoendothelial gap junctions also plays a role in VC. In this review, we emphasize the role of intercellular crosstalk between ECs and SMCs in VC associated with CKD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Certain hemophilia patients are unable to cooperate with or afford magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. The purpose of our study was to explore the value of multislice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) in evaluating hemophilic arthropathy (HA). METHODS: Thirty-eight patients with 73 joints of HA were consecutively selected from January 2016 to May 2018 for this prospective study. All 73 joints were examined by X-ray, CT, and MRI within 2 days. The MRI scores of the joints were determined by the International Prophylaxis Study Group (IPSG) standard. The CT findings were quantified according to the IPSG standard, except for cartilage injury, which was quantified by joint space narrowing using the X-ray Pettersson score. The CT and MRI scores were compared by the paired Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The correlations between the CT score of joint space narrowing and MRI score of cartilage injury and the total CT and MRI scores were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation. The kappa test was used to compare the consistency of CT and MRI scores. RESULTS: MRI was superior to CT based on the scores for small amount of effusion (P < 0.05), synovial hypertrophy and hemosiderin deposition in the mild groups (P < 0.05). The CT and MRI scores were not significantly different for moderate and massive effusion, synovial hypertrophy, and hemosiderin deposition in the moderate and severe groups, bone erosion or cystic changes (P > 0.05), and there was a high degree of consistency between the two scores (kappa > 0.81). The consistency between the Pettersson scores of joint space narrowing on CT and the IPSG scores of cartilage injury on MRI was high (kappa = 0. 774, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The image scores of MSCT are generally consistent with MRI except for mild synovitis, which can be used as an alternative for the evaluation of HA.

RESUMO

The geomagnetic field (GMF) is an environmental cue that provides directional information for animals. The intensity of GMF is varied over space and time. Variations in the GMF intensity affect the navigation of animals and their physiology. In this study, the phototaxis of the migratory insect rice planthopper Nilaparvata lugens (N. lugens) and frataxin in N. lugens (Nl-fh), which is a mitochondrial protein required for cellular iron homeostasis and iron-sulfur cluster assembly, were investigated by using different intensities of magnetic field. From the results, individuals of N. lugens showed decreased phototaxis when reared and tested in a behavioral arena under a strong magnetic field. Besides the reduction in performance, an accompanying effect of the strong magnetic field condition was a reduced level of Nl-fh-messenger RNA, and a Nl-fh knockdown indeed impaired the phototactic behavior in a tested sample of insects. This leads to the conclusion that the expression of frataxin is dependent on the strength of the surrounding magnetic field and that functional frataxin facilitates phototactic behavior in N. lugens.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We conducted a network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cinacalcet, active vitamin D and cinacalcet plus active vitamin D in the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed using the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Google Scholar, China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) and Wanfang databases. In total, eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 1,443 patients were eligible for this meta-analysis. Pairwise meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the compliance of intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), Ca, P, etc., and the mortality and safety of cinacalcet plus active vitamin D and active vitamin D alone. Then, NMA was used to estimate the safety and efficacy of the administration of active vitamin D and different drugs in the control group. RESULTS: The results of the pairwise meta-analysis revealed that compared with active vitamin D monotherapy, cinacalcet plus active vitamin D did not improve the survival of patients but significantly improved the blood calcium compliance rate [relative risk (RR) =1.82, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.51-2.21, P<0.00001]. Furthermore, it is worth noting that compared with the corresponding incidence with other treatments, the incidence of vomiting was significantly increased with cinacalcet plus active vitamin D treatment (RR =2.07, 95% CI: 1.18-3.65, P=0.01). Through direct and indirect comparisons, the NMA revealed the following results: (I) compared with oral or intravenous (IV) administration of vitamin D, the solely oral administration of active vitamin D increased mortality, and (II) cinacalcet monotherapy increased the risk of hypocalcemia, and that risk was even higher for cinacalcet plus active vitamin D. However, the results should be treated with caution because the prediction interval (PrI) crossed the invalid line. CONCLUSIONS: This pairwise meta-analysis and NMA provided a comprehensive analysis of the currently utilized CKD-SHPT treatment interventions. This network identified some highly ranked interventions through analyses that were included in a small number of trials; these interventions merit further examination on a larger scale in the context of well-designed RCTs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fowl adenovirus (FAdV) is an infectious agent that can cause jaundice, severe anaemia, dyspnoea and reproductive disorders in fowls. Since 2015, FAdV disease has been rapidly spreading among broiler chickens in China, where it has caused significant economic losses. In this study, a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) real-time turbidity method with strong specificity to FAdV was established. RESULTS: The established assay was specific to FAdV-4, and the lower limit of detection was 75 copies/µL of extracted DNA. The positive detection rate for the suspected tissue samples was 33.3% (14/42), which was consistent with that of the real-time PCR. CONCLUSION: The proposed LAMP method can quickly and accurately detect prevalent FAdV via real-time turbidity assay, thereby providing a diagnostic platform for the prevention and control of the FAdV disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with severe osteoporosis, which is still a great challenge in the clinic. This work aimed to investigate the skeletal effects of FK506 in a rat model of streptozocin induced type 1 DM. METHODS: Rats were divided into three groups: control (CTL), DM rats and DM rats treated with FK506. Dual energy X-ray absorption, micro-computed tomography, bone mechanics and bone histology were used for skeletal analysis. Bone marrow adipocytes infiltrations were detected by oil red O stain and H&E stain. In addition, the protein expression of adipocyte-specific makers (PPAR-γ, C/EBP-αß), osteoblast-specific markers (Runx2, Osterix) and nuclear translocation of ß-catenin in femurs were determined by western blot. RESULTS: In the study, bone mineral density of femurs and lumbar vertebras in diabetic rats were increased after FK506 administration. FK506 treatment resulted in higher cancellous bone volume but had no significant effect on cortical bones in diabetic rats. The ultimate force and work to failure were increased in DM+FK506 group, while they were reduced in the DM group. Compared with the CTL, the infiltration of bone marrow adipocytes was significantly increased in the DM group, which was reduced after the treatment of FK506. Besides, the expression levels of Runx2 and Osterix were up-regulated, and that of PPAR-γ and C/EBP-α were down-regulated in diabetic rats after FK506 treatment. In addition, the nuclear translocation of ß-catenin protein levels were increased in diabetic rats after the treatment of FK506. CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicated that FK506 could alleviate bone loss in diabetic rats. This effects could be due to the results of enhancing osteogenesis and inhibiting adipogenesis, which might be regulated by activation the nuclear translocation of ß-catenin.

RESUMO

Network science plays a big role in the representation of real-world phenomena such as user-item bipartite networks presented in e-commerce or social media platforms. It provides researchers with tools and techniques to solve complex real-world problems. Identifying and predicting future popularity and importance of items in e-commerce or social media platform is a challenging task. Some items gain popularity repeatedly over time while some become popular and novel only once. This work aims to identify the key-factors: popularity and novelty. To do so, we consider two types of novelty predictions: items appearing in the popular ranking list for the first time; and items which were not in the popular list in the past time window, but might have been popular before the recent past time window. In order to identify the popular items, a careful consideration of macro-level analysis is needed. In this work we propose a model, which exploits item level information over a span of time to rank the importance of the item. We considered ageing or decay effect along with the recent link-gain of the items. We test our proposed model on four various real-world datasets using four information retrieval based metrics.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Hypothermia remains a significant problem among very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. The use of occlusive polyethylene plastic bags immediately after birth has been proven to be effective for preterm infants to reduce hypothermia. This study aims to determine whether placing VLBW infants in plastic bags during transport reduces hypothermia. STUDY DESIGN: Study infants were randomly assigned to a standard thermoregulation protocol or to a standard thermoregulation protocol with placement of the torso and lower extremities inside a polyethylene plastic bag during transport. The primary outcome measures were axillary temperature before and after transport and the occurrence of moderate hypothermia upon neonatal intensive care unit admission. RESULT: The 108 VLBW infants recruited into the study were randomized to the plastic bag (n = 54) group or to standard group (n = 54) and had similar baseline characteristics. VLBW infants in the plastic bag group had a lower rate of moderate hypothermia (3.7 vs 27.8%; risk ratio 0.10; confidence interval 0.02-0.46; P < 0.001) and higher axillary temperatures (36.4 ± 0.4 °C vs 35.9 ± 0.9 °C; P = 0.001) upon NICU admission compared to infants receiving standard care. CONCLUSION: Placing VLBW infants in polyethylene plastic bags during transport reduces the occurrence of hypothermia, especially moderate hypothermia.

RESUMO

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic and systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration and joint erosion. Human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hASCs) have shown the capacity of suppressing effector T cell activation and inflammatory cytokine expression. We investigated whether hASCs play a therapeutic role in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) by administering a single dose of hASCs in mice with established CIA. In vivo, a beneficial effect was observed following hASC infusion as shown by a marked decrease in the severity of arthritis. Human ASCs were detectable in the joints, and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increased levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines were observed in the sera of the hASC-treated mice. Furthermore, hASC treatment induced the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) both in the peripheral blood and in the spleen tissues. In vitro, hASCs downregulated the production of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 in mouse macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide and inhibited the proliferation of human primary T cells in response to mitogens. Thus hASCs represent a novel and effective therapeutic strategy for RA.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In order to establish suitable reference intervals of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free (unbound) T4 (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), total thyroxine (T4), and total triiodothyronine (T3) for the patients collected in Zhejiang, China, an indirect method was developed using the data from the people presented for routine health check-up. METHODS: Fifteen thousand nine hundred and fifty-six person's results were reviewed. Box-Cox or Case Rank was used to transform the data to normal distribution. Tukey and Box-Plot methods were used to exclude the outliers. Nonparametric method was used to establish the reference intervals following the EP28-A3c guideline. Pearson correlation was used to evaluate the correlation between hormone levels and age, while Mann-Whitney U test was employed for quantification of concentration differences on the people who are younger and older than 50 years old. RESULTS: Reference intervals were 0.66-4.95 mIU/L (TSH), 8.97-14.71 pmol/L (FT4), 3.75-5.81 pmol/L (FT3), 73.45-138.93 nmol/L (total T4), and 1.24-2.18 nmol/L (total T3) in male; conversely, reference intervals for female were 0.72-5.84 mIU/L (TSH), 8.62-14.35 pmol/L (FT4), 3.59-5.56 pmol/L (FT3), 73.45-138.93 nmol/L (total T4), and 1.20-2.10 nmol/L (total T3). FT4, FT3, and total T3 levels in male and FT4 level in female had an inverse correlation with age. Total T4 and TSH levels in female were directly correlated. Significant differences in these hormones were also found between younger and older than 50 years old except FT3 in female. CONCLUSIONS: Indirect method can be applied for establishment of reference intervals for TSH, FT4, FT3, total T4, and total T3. The reference intervals are narrower than those previously established. Age factor should also be considered.

RESUMO

An avian influenza virus (AIV) strain belonging to the H4 subtype and provisionally designated as A/duck/China/J1/2012(H4N6) was isolated from diseased ducks with respiratory disease at a commercial poultry farm in Shandong, China, in 2012. The genomic coding sequences of all eight segments of this J1 isolate were determined and used for subsequent analysis. Phylogenetic analysis of all eight segments showed that this duck H4N6 virus was of Eurasian lineage and not American lineage. The results show that the virus probably emerged because of a reassortment event involving other avian H4N6 and H6N1 viruses. Interestingly, this H4N6 virus had all the conserved features common to low-pathogenic AIVs, including the HA cleavage sequence, receptor-binding sequences for the 2,3-linked sialic acid receptor in avian species, and the PB2 627E motif. These results suggest that the duck H4N6 isolate could not cross the species barrier to infect and replicate in mammals, including humans. In addition, screening of the duck serum samples showed that only 0.57 % (2/352) of the individuals had weak but measurable hemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibody titers. The low antibody prevalence data were also supported by the failure to detect H4N6 virus (0/56) in clinical nasal swabs of the ducks. These data indicate an alternate reservoir for the H4N6 virus.

RESUMO

Design and synthesis of three-dimensional (3D) structured carbon materials are crucial for achieving high-performance supercapacitors (SC) for energy storage. Here, we report the preparation of 3D architectured GN-CNT hybrid as SC electrodes. Controllable growth of carbon nanotubes on graphene sheets was realized through a facile one-pot pyrolysis strategy. The length of the carbon nanotubes could be rationally tuned by adjusting the amount of precursors. Correspondingly, the resulted GN-CNT hybrid showed adjustable electrochemical performance as an SC electrode. Importantly, the GN-CNT exhibited a high specific surface area of 903 m(2) g(-1) and maximum specific capacitance of 413 F g(-1) as SC electrodes at a scan rate of 5 mV s(-1) in 6 M KOH aqueous solution. This work paves a feasible pathway to prepare carbon electrode materials with favorable 3D architecture and high performance, for use in energy storage and conversion.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of collagen fiber staining between Van-Gieson staining and Masson trichrome staining of hepatic specimens in mice with Schistosoma japonicum infection. METHODS: A model of hepatic granuloma and fibrosis was established by infecting mice with S. japonicum cercariae, then the hepatic specimens were taken and Van-Gieson staining and Masson trichrome staining were performed. Eventually, the area of granuloma and fibrosis were measured by imaging analysis software. RESULTS: When the time of staining was 3-7 min, there was no significant difference of the fibrosis areas between the two methods (P > 0.05); when the time of staining was more than 10 min, the staining area showed by Masson's staining was significantly larger than that showed by Van-Gieson staining, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The operation procedures of Van-Gieson staining are simpler and easier to master than those of Masson trichrome staining, therefore Van-Gieson staining is a better method to display collagen.
