RESUMO

A high-factor interpolation method based on space-time modulation and a Kalman filter for optical encoders is proposed. Space-time modulation employs a reference time signal to modulate the output displacement signal of the optical encoder into a displacement space-time signal. Subsequently, high-frequency pulse signals are used for interpolation, which detect the phase of the reference time signal and the displacement space-time signal to obtain displacement information from the optical encoder output. The interpolation factor of this method depends on the frequencies of the high-frequency pulse signal and the reference time signal, and is independent of the moving speed. A Kalman filter is employed to estimate the velocity, compensating for time lag errors in the displacement information output by space-time modulation to improve the real-time performance of displacement output. The proposed method is simple and effective, which can be implemented on an FPGA. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experimentation.

RESUMO

NOx storage-reduction (NSR), a promising approach for removing NOx pollutants from diesel vehicles, remains elusive to cope with the increasingly lower exhaust temperatures (especially below 250 °C). Here, we develop a conceptual electrified NSR strategy, where electricity with a low input power (0.5-4 W) is applied to conductive Pt and K co-supported antimony-doped tin oxides (Pt-K/ATO), with C3H6 as a reductant. The ignition temperature for 10% NOx conversion is nearly 100 °C lower than that of the traditional thermal counterpart. Furthermore, reducing the power in the fuel-lean period relative to that in the fuel-rich period increases the maximum energy efficiency by 23%. Electrically driven release of lattice oxygen is revealed to play vital roles in multiple steps in NSR, including NO adsorption, desorption, and reduction, for improved NSR activity. This work provides an electrification strategy for developing high-activity NSR catalysis utilizing electricity onboard hybrid vehicles.

Denitrification is a major process in aquatic ecosystems, and it competes with cyanobacterial growth for nitrogen. However, the effect of denitrification on cyanobacterial blooms under the background of climate change remains unclear. This study explored the interaction between lake denitrification and formation of cyanobacterial blooms, using the historical water quality monitoring data of North Lake Taihu over five years from 2017 to 2021 and via incubation experiments of cyanobacteria and sediment denitrification. The monitoring data showed that algal biomass (Chla as a proxy) primarily peaked during summer and autumn. The seasonal variations in total N concentration showed a completely opposite trend than that of algal biomass, which peaked in winter and spring. Nitrate was the major component of dissolved inorganic nitrogen, and the nitrate concentration was approximately zero in summer and autumn. The total phosphorus concentration varied in the same way as the Chla concentration. The experimental results showed that Cyanobacteria did not grow when the temperature was below 20℃. In comparison, denitrification showed a significant linear relationship with temperatures between 10-25℃ (R2=0.99) and reached the maximum value of (62.98±21.36) µmol·(kg·h)-1 in Lake Taihu at 25℃. Additionally, the nitrate concentration threshold at the maximum denitrification rate was 4 mg·L-1. Cyanobacteria assimilate nitrate for growth, thereby reducing the concentration of nitrate required for denitrification. This study indicated that the advance in lake temperature warming due to climate change may result in earlier growth of cyanobacteria, thereby leading to large amounts of N being assimilated by algae before denitrification, further affecting the dynamics of cyanobacterial blooms. The present results are scientifically important for explaining the mechanism of cyanobacterial bloom rebound in Lake Taihu under the background of recent climate changes.

This study investigates the effect of surface roughness on the diffraction efficiency of two-dimensional gratings. Firstly, a roughness model was constructed using FDTD, followed by a significant analysis of the ridge roughness, groove roughness, and sidewall roughness on diffraction efficiency. Then, the impact of each roughness type on diffraction efficiency was studied separately. Results indicate that ridge roughness has a negative impact on diffraction efficiency, whereas groove roughness and sidewall roughness have a positive impact on the diffraction efficiency of two-dimensional gratings. When ridge, groove, and sidewall roughness coexist, diffraction efficiency decreases with an increase in roughness, consistent with previous research. However, under conditions of minimal roughness, diffraction efficiency actually increases. Finally, an experiment was conducted to verify the conclusions. The results of this study have significant reference value for the application and development of precision measurement techniques for gratings.

Micellar-nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems possessing characteristics such as an excellent circulation stability, inhibited premature release and on-demand site-specific release are urgently needed for enhanced therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, a novel kind of shell-sheddable core-crosslinked polymeric micelles with pH and oxidation dual-triggered on-demand drug release behavior was facilely constructed. The multifunctional micelles were self-assembled from a carefully designed amphiphilic triblock PEGylated polyurethane (PEG-acetal-PUBr-acetal-PEG) employing an acid-labile acetal linker at the hydrophilic-hydrophobic interface and pendant reactive bromo-containing polyurethane (PU) as the hydrophobic block, followed by a post-crosslinking via oxidation-cleavable diselenide linkages. These well-defined micelles exhibited an enhanced structural stability against dilution, achieved through the incorporation of diselenide crosslinkers. As expected, they were found to possess dual pH- and oxidation-responsive dissociation behaviors when exposure to acid pH (~5.0) and 50 mM H2O2 conditions, as evidenced using dynamic light-scattering (DLS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses. An in vitro drug release investigation showed that the drug indomethacin (IND) could be efficiently encapsulated in the micelles, which demonstrated an inhibited premature release compared to the non-crosslinked ones. It is noteworthy that the resulting micelles could efficiently release entrapped drugs at a fast rate in response to either pH or oxidation stimuli. Moreover, the release could be significantly accelerated in the presence of both acid pH and oxidation conditions, relative to a single stimulus, owing to the synergetic degradation of micelles through pH-induced dePEGylation and oxidation-triggered decrosslinking processes. The proposed shell-sheddable core-crosslinked micelles with a pH and oxidation dual-response could be potential candidates as drug carriers for on-demand drug delivery.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the effect of Xiaoqinglong decoction on vascular endothelin (ET) in rats pulmonary hypertension (PAH) model based on the Jiebiaokuoluo method. METHODS: Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into six groups: control group, PAH model group, positive drug group, and Xiaoqinglong decoction in the high-dose, medium-dose and low-dose groups, 10 rats in each group. The control group did not receive any treatment. The remaining groups were kept in low-pressure oxygen tanks, injections of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at 200 µL on day 1 and day 14, respectively. The rats were smoked twice a day from day 2 to day 30 (except day 14) at 4 hours intervals. The rats were placed in a low-temperature environment for 1 hour per day, and were put into cold water to swim (for 2 weeks), while the rats were given a cold diet. After modeling, the control group and the PAH model group were given equal volumes of normal saline; the positive drug group was given bosentan (100 mg/kg); Xiaoqinglong decoction 15, 10 and 5 g/kg was given, respectively, in the high, medium and low dose groups; once daily for 30 days. The mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) and right ventricle systolic pressure (RVSP) were then measured with right heart catheterization and the right ventricle hypertrophy index (RVHI) was assessed; ET-1 and nitric oxide (NO) levels were determined by radioimmunoassay. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the levels of mPAP, RVSP, RVHI and ET-1 were significantly increased in the PAH model group [mPAP (mmHg, 1 mmHg ≈ 0.133 kPa): 33.20±1.04 vs. 13.20±1.03, RVSP (mmHg): 62.40±1.54 vs. 24.20±1.02, RVHI: 42.90±2.51 vs. 25.40±2.01, ET-1 (ng/L): 100.80±20.34 vs. 81.50±13.84, all P < 0.05], while NO levels were significantly decreased (mmol/L: 23.20±1.81 vs. 31.70±1.49, P < 0.05). Compared with the PAH model group, the levels of mPAP, RVSP, RVHI and ET-1 in the positive drug group and high, medium, low dose groups of Xiaoqinglong decoction were significantly decreased [mPAP (mmHg): 25.50±0.84, 26.90±0.74, 27.10±1.19, 29.10±0.75 vs. 33.20±1.04, RVSP (mmHg): 54.40±5.14, 50.10±1.67, 53.10±1.05, 56.60±1.07 vs. 62.40±1.54, RVHI: 41.10±1.19, 31.20±1.67, 31.30±1.89, 40.30±1.88 vs. 42.90±2.51, ET-1 (ng/L): 70.70±7.89, 69.90±2.92, 71.70±4.32, 73.90±5.19 vs. 100.80±20.34, all P < 0.05], while NO levels were significantly increased (mmol/L: 32.50±2.06, 34.70±1.16, 32.70±1.33, 30.10±1.19 vs. 23.20±1.81, all P < 0.05), and with the increased dose of Xiaoqinglong decoction, the change was more obvious, and the effect was better in the high-dose group. CONCLUSIONS: Xiaoqinglong decoction can reduce rats PAH by regulating ET-1 and NO levels in a dose-dependent manner.

For positioning Talbot encoder and Talbot lithography, etc., properties manipulation of Talbot imaging is highly expected. In this work, an investigation on the distance and depth modulation of Talbot imaging, which employs a specially designed grating structure, is presented. Compared with the current grating structure, the proposed grating structure is characterized by having the phase layers with uneven thicknesses. Such a specific structural design can cause the offset of Talbot image from its nominal position, which in turn generates the spatial distance modulation of self-imaging and imaging depth expansion. Theoretical analysis is performed to explain its operating principle, and simulations and experiments are carried out to demonstrate its effectiveness.

Particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) is a growing concern worldwide due to its association with respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Stemonine, a traditional Chinese herb, has been demonstrated to exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it a potential drug for the treatment of respiratory diseases. The therapeutic effects of stemonine on mice with PM2.5-induced COPD were investigated in the present study. Kunming mice were randomly divided into the following five groups (n=10/group): Control, model, low-dose stemonine, moderate-dose stemonine and high-dose stemonine. The model mice received an intranasal instillation of PM2.5 suspension (40 mg/kg). The levels of specific enzymes, markers of oxidative stress, and the inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6 were measured in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of the mice using ELISA kits. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed to determine inflammatory changes to the lung tissue. It was demonstrated that stemonine could significantly alleviate lung injury by decreasing the levels of enzymes and cytokines associated with inflammation and oxidative stress in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, stemonine dose-dependently increased the amount of superoxide dismutase. These results suggest that stemonine reduces lung inflammation in mice with PM2.5-induced COPD, providing a novel approach for the treatment of PM2.5-induced respiratory diseases.

γ-(2,3-epoxypropoxy) propyltrimethoxysilane (KH-560) was incorporated in various proportions into side-chain-type sulfonated poly(ether ketone/ether benzimidazole) (SPEKEBI) as a crosslinker, to make membranes with high ion exchange capacities and excellent performance for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Systematical measurements including Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) proved the complete disappearance of epoxy groups in KH-560 and the existence of Si in the membranes. The resulting membranes showed increased mechanical strength and thermal stability compared to the unmodified sulfonated poly(ether ketone/ether benzimidazole) membrane in appropriate doping amount. Meanwhile, the methanol permeability has decreased, leading to the increase of relative selectivities of SPEKEBI-x-SiO2 membranes. Furthermore, the H2/O2 cell performance of SPEKEBI-2.5-SiO2 membrane showed a much higher peak power density compared with the pure SPEKEBI memrbrane.

RESUMO

Proton-exchange membranes (PEM) display unique ion-selective transport that has enabled a breakthrough in high-performance proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Elemental understanding of the morphology and proton transport mechanisms of the commercially available Nafion® has promoted a majority of researchers to tune proton conductive channels (PCCs). Specifically, knowledge of the morphology-property relationship gained from statistical and segmented copolymer PEMs has highlighted the importance of the alignment of PCCs. Furthermore, increasing efforts in fabricating and aligning artificial PCCs in field-aligned copolymer PEMs, nanofiber composite PEMs and mesoporous PEMs have set new paradigms for improvement of membrane performances. This perspective profiles the recent development of the channels, from the self-assembled to the artificial, with a particular emphasis on their formation and alignment. It concludes with an outlook on benefits of highly aligned PCCs for fuel cell operation, and gives further direction to develop new PEMs from a practical point of view.

PURPOSE: To develop a simple correction approach to mitigate shading in 3 Tesla (T) breast MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A slightly modified breast receive (Rx) array, which we termed field shaping array (FSA), was shown to mitigate breast shading at 3T. In this FSA, one Rx element was selectively unblocked and tuned off the Larmor frequency during the transmit (Tx) phase. The current flowing in this element during Tx created a secondary transmit field; the vector addition of this field and the one created directly by the body coil resulted in a more uniform excitation profile over the entire breast area. The receive Rx element was returned to its intended tuning during the Rx phase, ensuring unperturbed signal reception. RESULTS: Using the FSA, improved Tx field uniformity, better fat suppression, increased image homogeneity and reduced power deposition was seen in all volunteers studied. CONCLUSION: A simple modification of a standard breast Rx array, converting it to a field shaping array, was shown to mitigate breast shading in all volunteers studied.

Parallel transmitter techniques are a promising approach for reducing transmitter B1 inhomogeneity due to the potential for adjusting the spatial excitation profile with independent RF pulses. These techniques may be further improved with transmit sensitivity encoding (SENSE) methods because the sensitivity information in pulse design provides an excitation that is inherently compensated for transmitter B1 inhomogeneity. This paper presents a proof of this concept using transmit SENSE 3D tailored RF pulses designed for small flip angles. An eight-channel receiver coil was used to mimic parallel transmission for brain imaging at 3T. The transmit SENSE pulses were based on the fast-k(z) design and produced 5-mm-thick slices at a flip angle of 30 degrees with only a 4.3-ms pulse length. It was found that the transmit SENSE pulses produced more homogeneous images than those obtained from the complex sum of images from all receivers excited with a standard RF pulse.

Parallel excitation has been introduced as a means of accelerating multidimensional, spatially-selective excitation using multiple transmit coils, each driven by a unique RF pulse. Previous approaches to RF pulse design in parallel excitation were either formulated in the frequency domain or restricted to echo-planar trajectories, or both. This paper presents an approach that is formulated as a quadratic optimization problem in the spatial domain and allows the use of arbitrary k-space trajectories. Compared to frequency domain approaches, the new design method has some important advantages. It allows for the specification of a region of interest (ROI), which improves excitation accuracy at high speedup factors. It allows for magnetic field inhomogeneity compensation during excitation. Regularization may be used to control integrated and peak pulse power. The effects of Bloch equation nonlinearity on the large-tip-angle excitation error of RF pulses designed with the method are investigated, and the utility of Tikhonov regularization in mitigating this error is demonstrated.

A new k-space direct matrix inversion (DMI) method is proposed here to accelerate non-Cartesian SENSE reconstructions. In this method a global k-space matrix equation is established on basic MRI principles, and the inverse of the global encoding matrix is found from a set of local matrix equations by taking advantage of the small extension of k-space coil maps. The DMI algorithm's efficiency is achieved by reloading the precalculated global inverse when the coil maps and trajectories remain unchanged, such as in dynamic studies. Phantom and human subject experiments were performed on a 1.5T scanner with a standard four-channel phased-array cardiac coil. Interleaved spiral trajectories were used to collect fully sampled and undersampled 3D raw data. The equivalence of the global k-space matrix equation to its image-space version, was verified via conjugate gradient (CG) iterative algorithms on a 2x undersampled phantom and numerical-model data sets. When applied to the 2x undersampled phantom and human-subject raw data, the decomposed DMI method produced images with small errors (< or = 3.9%) relative to the reference images obtained from the fully-sampled data, at a rate of 2 s per slice (excluding 4 min for precalculating the global inverse at an image size of 256 x 256). The DMI method may be useful for noise evaluations in parallel coil designs, dynamic MRI, and 3D sodium MRI with fixed coils and trajectories.

Current standard sensitivity-encoded parallel imaging (SENSE) utilizes a fully sampled low-resolution reference scan to estimate the coil sensitivities. This reference scan adds scan time and may introduce misregistration artifacts. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of estimating the coil sensitivities for spiral SENSE directly from an undersampled k-space center. The limited spatial frequencies of the coil sensitivities, and the undersampling beyond the Nyquist radius cause image artifacts. A point spread function (PSF) analysis and experiments on both phantoms and humans identified an optimal radius for the k-space center by minimizing these image artifacts. The preliminary data indicate that self-calibrated SENSE is as accurate as standard SENSE, which uses a fully sampled reference scan.

Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) requires high spatial resolution to demonstrate detailed vasculature and high temporal resolution to capture the contrast bolus. Sparse bright voxels in MRA permit substantial undersampling in MRI data acquisition, allowing simultaneous high temporal and spatial resolution. We developed a time-resolved 3D MRA technique using the efficient spiral sampling trajectory, and performed off-resonance corrections using inhomogeneity field maps. View sharing and sliding window reconstruction were utilized to generate high temporal resolution. High-resolution 3D angiograms were generated at 1-2 s per frame, with a 5-8 ml gadolinium dose, in patients with vascular disease.
