RESUMO

A number of studies have been conducted to explore the association between the cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) TaqIB polymorphism and risk of myocardial infarction (MI); however, the results are inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to clarify the issue based on all the data available.Eligible studies were retrieved by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. We calculated the crude odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to assess the association between the TaqIB polymorphism and risk of MI.We included 13 studies involving 8733 MI cases and 8573 controls in the meta-analysis. The pooled results from all included studies showed decreased MI risk in the analysis of the B2B2 versus B1B1 (OR = 0.78, 95% CI = 0.68-0.91), dominant (OR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.77-0.99), and recessive genetic models (OR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.78-0.91). The frequency of the B2B2 genotype in MI patients was lower (OR = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.81-0.94). However, there was no significant association in the B1B2 versus B1B1 analysis (OR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.81-1.05) and no significant difference for the B1B1 genotype (OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 0.98-1.11) and B1B2 genotype (OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.97-1.08). Cumulative analysis confirmed these results. Our results suggest that the B2B2 genotype of the CETP TaqIB polymorphism is a protective factor against the development of MI.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the relationship between increases in expression time of ABCG2 mRNA driven by cisplatin and efficacy of platinum-containing chemotherapy for gastric cancer. METHODS: Tumor specimens and normal control tissues were collected from 78 patients with gastric cancer treated from January 2008 to December 2011. Fresh tumor tissue obtained from the surgically resected specimens was tested within 6 h. Polymerase chain reaction products were run on 2% agarose gels and analyzed under ultraviolet light after ethidium bromide staining. Increases in ABCG2 mRNA expression time were assessed after cancer cells were incubated with cisplatin, and were divided into terciles and compared in relation to clinical outcomes. RESULTS: Among groups classified by expression time of ABCG2 mRNA, no significant differences in baseline clinical characteristics and pathological findings were detected. The median overall time was 14.2 (95%CI: 9.7-18.6), 11.4 (95%CI: 6.3-16.5) and 8.1 (95%CI: 5.4-10.8) in patients with low, intermediate and high increases in ABCG2 mRNA expression times (P < 0.05), respectively. Median survival associated with performance status and tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage showed a similar trend, with longer survival and higher risk for mortality associated with lower performance status score and TNM stage. In a multivariate analysis for survival with Cox proportional-hazards model, increased ABCG2 mRNA expression time was an independent predictor for overall survival. Overall survival was longer with increased ABCG2 mRNA expression times ≤ 0.71 than increased ABCG2 mRNA expression times > 0.71, with a hazard ratio for death of 0.855 (95%CI: 0.615-0.962, P = 0.038). CONCLUSION: Increased ABCG2 mRNA expression time driven by cisplatin is associated with survival of gastric cancer patients, and this may help modify the therapeutic strategies.

RESUMO

Well-aligned and uniform titanium dioxide nanotube arrays were fabricated in situ on titanium substrate by electrochemical anodic oxidation. SEM images indicate that the TiO2 nanotubes are well organized into high-density uniform arrays, with diameter ranging in size from 70 to 100 nm. The XRD patterns show that the sample fabricated by anodic oxidation is amorphous without being annealed. As the 500 degrees C annealed sample crystallized in the anatase phase, which is in good photocatalytic activity. In quartz glass reactor, the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of MB in aqueous solutions as well as the effect factors and then to 0.1 mol/L NaCl as the electrolyte, under with in oxygen atmospheres annealed the applied bias is 0.5 V and has a pH = 3.25, light intensity is 1 000 microW/cm2 and the surface area of nano-tube array film conditions, will help to improve the TiO2 nanotubes array film photoelectrocatalysis degradation of MB degradation efficiency is 99.56%. The results of EIS analyses revealed that the surface reaction step was the only rate limiting step either for the photoelectrocatalytic process. The extra bias potential could decrease the values of the electron-transfer resistance and increase the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.
